A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Continuing to Smoke Copious Amounts of Bat Pole

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 24, 2019

Yesterday was just an embarrassing display of offensive ineptitude. Until Pillar got a hit in the 13th they hadn’t had a hit since the 7th. Posey went 0-6 with three K’s. Mac The Doof struck out 5 times in 5 at bats. Someone named Donavan Solano ended the game by making the final out. Meanwhile the Twins hit 8 bombs yesterday. Our opponents have out-bombed us 70-47 this year….

Anyone got a problem with Drake? I have no problem with his antics on the sideline. I suppose you could make a case that if all the court side fans were acting like that it would cause problems but they aren’t all acting like that. It’s an exciting game and I don’t feel like he’s a *fake look at me* guy, it looks real for him……

Just the Seinfeld reference. I barely even know who this Drake guy is.

Easy to doom up a game where bats go silent for long time but Giants had 2 run lead on Braves heading to 8th and were looking to split the series. Watson blew the save, and after 3 other guys shut down the Braves Moronta coughed up the run that cost them. Could just as easily been another W for Bum.

Mets grabbed Altherr off waivers, couple days after they also snagged Broxton.

  3. willedav's avatar willedav said, on May 24, 2019 at 8:02 am

Watson blowing the save is a bad look for teams potentially viewing him as late inning loogy trade pick up. Couple days after Braves closer falls apart, so does Giants prime set up guy.
Didn’t see what happened to Moronta but I did see his previous outing after Anderson gave up couple hits.
Moronta immediately gave up 2 deep drives that wound up moving runner from 2nd to 3rd and then home with a run. For whatever reason he sure is lot more hittable this year. Seems to have great stuff, lacking command.

Even before the 5Ks (platinum sombrero?) Williamson looked like he’s just waiting for the ax to fall. He’s had 47 abs so far this year. I think it was snarkk that mentioned they should keep rolling him out there because its not like he’s blocking someone or they’ve got someone better. I tend to agree. Give him another ~50 abs before releasing him to start launching bombs for his next club.

I don’t have much of an opinion on Drake being court side but this seems pretty lame.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on May 24, 2019 at 9:21 am

Yeah, it was me who said let’s give him a hundred ABs. If he can last that long without getting hurt. If he’s cratering still then, OK, time to say adios. He’s already sailed through waivers once. I’d just release him outright, maybe somebody somewhere would pick him up. If he fails again here, it’s time to move on — new scenery needed. Isn’t he pushing 29? We could bring up the Yastremski guy. He looks like a AAAA player too, but at least he’s got some genetics and a name working for him. He’d be worth at least a week+ of interest until we realize he’s gone 3 for 30…

Williamson is even a lesser version of a player then Nate Scheirholtz was, he’s only around still right now because of the utter fascination of the fan base who are delusional..
I don’t see how you give the oaf a 💯 AB’s plus and you gave Aaron Alltheir a more athletic athlete who also had power 1 freaking bat to prove himself before cutting him?Shit they gave Connor “cup of Joe” a starting job to start the season before they finally realized .063 SUCKS.. I’m down with 100 AB’s for Mac. He can’t keep being this bad.

Any rumors that we are trying to get Keon Broxton floating around out there?

I wonder if Connor Joe will ever make it back to the bigs. If not, he’ll have one helluva story to tell on minor league bus rides ala Crash Davis as the years go by. “The time I was in the Opening Day line-up”
Man, am I happy for him that he did bloop that one hit out there.

By the way, James sent me an email the other day saying he was in town for a couple of days and we were able to get together for a few drinks the other night at the legendary Spring Valley Inn. There happened to be a biker gang meeting (I think that’s what it was) going on there at the same time. James came in with his satchel and I joked to him that he was going to get our asses kicked walking in with that thing. I was joking, but a woman overheard me and came over to earnestly tell us that we would be fine if we stayed out of their way and minded our own business—which of course made me legitmately scared of getting our asses kicked!
We actually had a good time and it was great to hang with another Flap Dude and talk Giants baseball.

Dirt–as I recall, the wind can get going pretty good out there on the Aqua Range.

A good solid prospect would already be on your major league roster producing decent numbers by age 23-25 with great upside, sadly theirs only downside with the Giants bunch right here..

  17. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on May 24, 2019 at 2:12 pm

Look, we all know the reality is this outfield has been bad. Is still pretty bad, and will continue bad for the foreseeable future. No cavalry coming from the minors, at least any worth a darn. They have to draft athletes in the OF. No Quality major league OFer will come here in FAgency unless vastly overpaid, and most won’t come then, given the park’s toxic reputation for killing offensive stats. I heard Schulman say there have been 40 LFers out there since Bonds. So, let’s enjoy the continuing turnstile OFers the next few seasons…

Island holes🏝there’s one hole I believe around 200 yards if you get a hole in one you win a trip to Hawaii!! Yeah the wind 💨 can pickup making it more of a challenge at time, but still fun..

I bought my first house when I was living in Reno. It wasn’t anything fancy but it was built for us and in a relatively nice area. On the final walk through with the build crew the foreman kept talking about how the roof was built for 90 mph winds. We hadn’t lived in Reno long at that point and I remember thinking why the F does he keep mentioning that? After a couple of years of street signs ripped off their anchors and patio furniture blown 5-6 houses away we knew why. There were times it would be a week to ten days at a time. I really liked living there and I guess it sounds odd but the wind was a major negative for me.

I can’t help comparing the glory days of the ’70s and ’80s NFLto this version now — which is generally just unwatchable for me. I don’t bet on sports, so there’s no reason for me to have interest in the NFL game. I’ll still pay attention on the periphery to the Niners march back to mediocrity, but that’s it…

Buster has a .250 BA and OPS of around .680. Is he still hurt? Still recovering from hip surgery? What’s the deal with him. I thought he looked slow and labored in ST when I saw him twice; apparently that hasn’t changed. Maybe a 32-year old catcher on the low end of talent to begin with would be performing like this, but Posey had the high end of talent. How/why did this guy age so fast?…

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on May 24, 2019 at 6:56 pm

maybe he’s just got weak knees or hips or bad genes or whatever. Timmy and Cain, two totally different body types, both cratered at a young age.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on May 24, 2019 at 7:09 pm

I think Timmy just wore out because that little body had to perform way above its normal capability to reach the heights he did. Posey? I’m sticking with the idea that the 2011 ankle break started him on a fast track to body decline. After retirement, we’ll hear the truth…

Wow. Just wow. 51 years of going to baseball games, and that was the absolute worst game I have ever seen. By a country mile and a half. I’ve seen us blow big leads, come back only to lose, error-fests, lousy pitching, playing stupid, but 18 runs?!? Fuck me sideways.

Nope. Nothing comes close to that. Pomegranate was slow, awful, and fucking TERRIBLE. He was at like 80 pitches in the 3rd. He should be sent to Palookaville with Mac the K. His highlight was a pop out to 3rd to stop the K streak at 6. Which he promptly started back up after that.

The running joke with the folks around us was would the DBacks continue to score more each inning. When Dutch Oven Fire gave up the bomb for 18, it was adios, pendejo. The 1100 loss season I don’t think we played this bad. Austin’s bomb was great though. He crushed it.

My son spent the whole game saying, when did we get Pomerantz? And WHY???
