A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Pop Flies And Pom Poms

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 24, 2019

Did you guys see that Will Smith game winner? He just kind of fisted an opposite field fly ball that just kept going and going and going. It didn’t have the look or the sound or anything. And it was gone, just like that.

Pom Pom tonight. Yikes. Our grip on 14th place in the National League is still safe for another couple of games but after that…..

Dodger PBP guy, Steiner called it a pop up off the bat…
    The game is broken…

i heard that call about an hour ago. This isn’t baseball anymore

  2. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on June 24, 2019 at 8:08 am

Charlie Steiner still works for the Dogs? He was on ESPN a million years ago wasn’t he?

Fuck. Saw the HR. Fucking Posey barrels one and he doesn’t reach the track. Belt hits one well on the barrel opposite field and he barely reaches the track. This guy gets jammed on his hands and it goes over the wall?

Are some teams getting different balls than others? It’s like LA is getting those old hard-soft rubber baseballs we used as kids when we played on cement. Those bastards flew a mile if you hit ’em right. and the spin generated was wicked.

The next thing I want to see the a check-swing home run. Or a goddamn bunt that goes over the wall.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on June 24, 2019 at 9:16 am

Back here, the wicked spinners were called “egg balls” cause of the optical illusion they made…

  3. willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 24, 2019 at 8:11 am

Anderson pitched pretty well, only 5 hits 1 BB. Surprised too they gave Escobar a hit on the ball into shallow center that Crawford dropped. Fortunately Moronta pitched out of it with Vogt retrieving the wild pitch and tagging out Escobar. Meanwhile Nunez, who went to Boston in that deal, is hitting .234.

Rox had swept the DBax 3 in a row before Giants got there, then lost 3 in a row in LA all to rookies hitting walk off bombs. Giants (last) and Rox (2nd) are 6 and a half games apart. Rox 13 back of LA..

Ostler’s headline front page of Chron sports: “Worst line up in SF history?”

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 24, 2019 at 8:22 am

It was supposed to be so different. Posey, Belt, Crawford, Panik, and Longoria were supposed to still be in their prime at this point. It all went wrong, starting a few years ago.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on June 24, 2019 at 8:29 am

i don’t understand how Posey, et al have gotten so bad. Theoretically, while they shouldn’t have the power of most of the men playing the game today they should at least have some. How can they have nearly none? They’re hitting the same damn juiced ball as everyone else.

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on June 24, 2019 at 9:12 am

Todd Frazier hit a HR Saturday at Wrigley that he thought had no chance of going out, throwing his bat in disgust and jogging to first expecting it to be an out and even admitting so after the game. On and on it goes.

Maybe it is a good thing we didn’t sign Harper. For me, getting Harper was predicated on expecting the infield to collectively bounce back and be a solid group. Hasn’t happended.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on June 24, 2019 at 9:17 am

also, Harper has been pretty bad this year. His OBP would be up if he was with us considering all the walks he would be getting.

I did see that when mlb channel cur into the game…it is ridiculous what is becoming of the game. I noted our Dick opposite field triple and the Flodger game winner Friday night being like hit cue balls. Ridiculous and topped by that ridiculous game winner. On the hands and he takes to right center…the Flodgers are the ultimate juiced ball team. Will eventually get shut down in the playoffs..

Nice write up in The Athletic on Darren Baker who’s currently playing in the Cape Code League. Here’s a snippet.

“One scout who knows Darren well from the Pac 12 games says, “what helps him improve constantly is that he knows who and what he is. He’s barely six feet, maybe 160 pounds. He’s not his father, but he works on his bunting, he always runs hard and plays hard.

At Cal, Baker batted .273 as a freshman, .306 as a sophomore. One scout thinks “he could hit a lot more next year and be an interesting draft pick, if he prefers to sign rather than stay around for his senior year and graduate. He is smart. He’s also a very smart baseball player.” Indeed, he was 21-for-21 stealing in 2019. Oh yes, and he also played in every one of Cal’s 52 games.”

Berkeley. No, a dude who drops a throw at second for an error. Now, Pom gives up the oppo homer to some Rocky I’ve never heard of. 70 total HRs hit (20 more on road than at Oracle), 112 given up. Team BA .221 at home. I’m really tired of this S. This is the third year of it. Am I wrong to be sick of this? Trade them all. Every single last one of the vets. Not Vogt. Not Pablo. DVDs from Netflix, Zum? I’ve been carting around a bunch of CDs and DVDs, but with a faulty DVD drive in my laptop, I’m thinking using disks is done for me. Just moved out of my apartment and threw out those disks. It pained me. But obviously online is it now, and laptops are hardly being produced with disk drives anymore….

Do we really need to actually go to the ballpark for the Flapalooza?
A beer bar with some TVs would probably be as good, maybe better… 😉

This post-game dude Willard on KNBR is horrendous. Now, he’ll get 4, not 3 hours in the evening on non-game nights. Fitzgerald also gone from KNBR, but apparently stays as TV guy for Dubs. Won’t miss “Fitz” in the slightest. He had to go. No way Papa and he could be at the same station at same time. Papa always holds a grudge on Fitz for taking his Dubs TV gig years ago…
