Another Win
Was that perhaps the best catch a Giants fan has ever made? Cradling a baby in one arm he bare hand catches the winning home run wearing a Mays jersey in a road park. If it wasn’t the best catch it was right up there.
Ok, I am now officially on the road. Let the madness ensue….
Of course I’m a little biased. If I see any fan catch any ball I am jealous and declare it the best catch of all time 😭😭😭
Be careful what you wish for. I had a heat seeker off the bat of Lenny Dykstra come at me at the Stick. It was one of those that you wonder why no one else is going for it right before it breaks your hamate bone. The old lady behind me should have put me in her will. The guy next to me that had the ball hit him on the head after it careened off my hand, was pissed and the guy in front of him, the one with the sequined hat that ended up with the ball, was very happy, one might say he was downright gay.
I had taken the bus out that day and they didn’t leave until the end of the game, so with an aching hand and the cat calls playing out, I joined the dropped ball protection program and went to another section.
Have a safe trip.
Lol GREAT story.
I’m more convinced than ever of the value of pitching in juiced ball/launch angle era. Every team is looking for relief help or SPs to shut down power of other team; this is what worked so well for Red Sox last year vs. power laden Yanks Dodgers Astros. Even the Cubs see value in guy like Holland who could potentially get LHs (like say Bellinger Muncy Seager?) out. How do 1 inning set up guys like Watson Dyson become valuable?
Why can’t Twins, who lead AL in bombs, win a game where they score 12 runs? Pitching fails them and they give up 14 to Yanks.
Kenley Jansen last night with a 4-1 lead in 9th at WAS: 2 quick outs then single HBP walk walk before getting final out. He’s just not the dominant guy he was years ago. I’m telling you I don’t care how many games LA wins during regular season, they’re gonna Heimlich this again if he stays as closer and they don’t get more set up guys.
And I’m sure as fuck I don;t want us to be the team that puts them over the top with Smith.
.
6 in a row by Giants over Pads. As my HS coach mentor buddy told us (and I’ve used this expression myself couple times), “when you’ve got em by the balls, you gotta squeeze.”
My Little League coach DID…
Knew a priest like that
Poll :Better Catch
Pillar in CF?
Baby catch in LF?
I’m going Baby Mays!👶⚾️
I like extra inning wins as much as the next guy but this is unsustainable and the club has cooled off (reverted to form) at the plate over the last week. I’m moving towards the “sell” side of the aisle as the deadline approaches.
Teams that are playing great make great plays!
1)Posey gunning down Tatis on perfect throw to 2nd
2)Solano leaping line drive ketch up the middle
3) Green full extension and spin to throw out a runner
4)Pillar’s awesome ketch on a linedrive bullet to the wall
5)Belt’s full Sprint over the shoulder ketch in foul territory
6) Baby Mays one handed grab! Kid will have that highlight reel the rest of his/her’s life..
Great re-cap on those plays! The offense had some struggles last night, but the D was stellar.
This year’s Scutaro?
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/07/giants-rumors-sogard-watson-cardinals.html
Wow- I didn’t know Watson’s contract had all those big incentive raises in it.
Sogards(33) and trash,he’s not nearly as good as the magic they got out of Scurato, not worth giving up young prospects for him.Give more AB’s to Solano over Panik if you have too, but no more old guys..
Sogard is better than Panik in stats, and Sogard sucks. He sucked years ago. No no on Sogard…
Although I am happy the Giants are on this winning streak, I hope the Front Office is clear on what type of players we REALLY have, which in my opinion, are old and/or playing over their heads. It’s not a mirage that they have stunk for most of the past 3 seasons. Consequently, I am not fooled/convinced the Giants should be “buyers” for a run at a second tier Wild Card, where “one and done” may not only decide their fate for this season, but also possibly decide a longer duration in the wilderness.
I mean come on – the Giants have won six extra-inning games in their last 10 contests and seven in their past 15 since the All-Star break. Is that the blueprint for the rest of the season, i.e., timely hitting and outstanding starting and bullpen pitching? See Dirt’s 10:09am post . . . I agree it’s “unsustainable.” I mean take a quick look at the team’s ESPN stat leaders, where Pillar leads the team in 3 of 5 posted categories: Batting Average (.249), RBIs (54), and Hits (94). Longo leads the bombs category with 13 and Belt leads the team in OBP, with .355. Seriously, I am not impressed. Similarly, the team’s run differential is still negative 42, which puts them in 9th place behind the Mets in the Wild Card chase.
Loo, I hope the MLB rumor is totally off about the GMen being interested in the one year wonder, Sogard. What a waste of Watson as a trade piece. I’m down with what Flav posted a couple of days ago . . . In part, he said, “And I do get the irritating emotional attachment the fans have to him. And the players would *revolt* apparently.
I left my emotional attachment to these guys in my past a long time ago. When Will left, that was kind of it for me. It was just too much to get attached and then watch them leave. I still love my team and there are players I’ll never forget but I don’t have that “No we can’t lose these guys!” mentality.” Same thing with me, except it was Mays being traded for the proverbial bag of balls that ended it for me.
Hey, I probably am wet and should take a course in positive thinking from Bozo. In fact, I want to give a shout out to him for being unbelievably supportive and meets the true definition of “fanatic.” Day in and day out, he’s positive about this team and there’s something to be said for that unwavering support. I tip my hat to you John. Not only do you know your baseball, but regardless of how the “wind is blowing,” you’re there to defend the team.
Great to see you here, Blade.
Hope all is well.
Are you in touch with M.I.A. Chi at all?
My condo was affected by water related emergencies twice in the space of 2 months (last incident while I was in Uruguay on vacation visiting friends). It was so bad that both bedrooms were damaged, so I had to stay in a Hyatt Hotel for over a month, while the contractor replaced my wood floors, carpeting and some dry wall damage. I definitely took it as a cosmic message from the universe. Especially so, when I went to the hotel’s exercise room and water was coming down through a portion of the acoustic ceiling like a water fall. The hotel gave me 12 free days after my stay – in part for the 30 plus days I stayed there and also for saving their exercise room wood floor. The other good news was that my insurance company didn’t act like a dick and reimbursed me for all the damage. Regardless, this was a frickin’ message from the cosmos to sell my condo and I have been trying to determine which realtor I am going to go with and where I will live afterwards. Thinking of bouncing to Hawaii or Oregon (but a friend has offered me a room to rent at a ridiculously low price in Denver, so I may stay in Colorado).
No, I am not on social media (FB) much and that’s where I occasionally see Chi.
Chi is all over facebook. Not sure why he aint here.
Blach was DFA-ed.
A great run for sure, but to get to 15 games over .500 we have to pause and then do the exact same thing again. Seems not likely:(
Well, when you are rolling you let it ride. A 33 year old 2nd baseman? Pass. I’m fine with Solano. Anyone but Panik. Whoever said ‘hold’ is gonna win the bet.
Kokonuts…
Bring up the Avenila (?) kid. SS. Giver Panik a mystery injury.
Blach DFA’d because hurler Logan Webb put back on 40 man, off of 80 game PEDs suspension from Flying Squirrels…
Blach sure went down the drain quick.
He was our Dodger-killer for a little while…
Apologize for not being up-to-date on newish baseball rules, but is it true that whatever moves or non-moves the team makes by the end of July 31st will be it, no more moves until the off-season? No more waiver wire moves?
Yeah, no more waiver-wire moves. No more August trades.
Well then, Z has (hopefully) a lot of stuff to announce in the next 4 days…
From MLB:
The trade deadline will remain July 31st; however, trade waivers will be eliminated. Players may be placed and claimed on outright waivers after July 31st, but players may not be traded after that date.
Ah, ok. Glad they kept that part of it, that’s sometimes interesting…
Sogard?
This is a joke right? For a good arm like Watson? No way in hell.
If they are thinking Sogard is an upgrade on Panik, then you have all U need to know about Panik.
Trade or DFA Panik and keep N. Berkeley Solano…
No shit, Snarkk. Solano is fine with me. A top line closer for a 33 year old rental? I don’t think Farhan is that stupid.
I’m down with blade’s POV.
Zman still has to be a trader, net to the sell side.
Maybe Giants sneak into the WCII game. Maybe they have a miracle after that and go to the Series. Those maybes are very low probability to actually happen.
The higher probability is to use very valuable assets now (assets that turn into free agents and thus steeply decline in value on day 1 of the offseason) to leverage into many more valuable assets for use the next 2-3 years. The net present value of the future value to the organizaton of the acquired assets has to exceed the NPV to it of the current traded assets, and if Zman is as good as I think he is, that will be the case…
The article doesn’t tie Sogard to Watson…
In the words of Robert Mueller, it doesn’t not tie him to the deal either.
I re-read it. I’m with Chuck. They’re mentioned in the same article, so it seemed connected to me.
If they’re not, so much the better. Sogard for Watson makes no sense, even if the Giants want to dump his salary.
Like zum, I had no idea Watson can make up to $10.5 million this year with incentives. I thought he was around that $3-$4 million mark, but that’s just base. He’s already at around $8.5 million apparently, with incentives kicked in already. More power to him, but that’s a load of gold for a Pen guy. I had not considered it, but maybe a factor in unloading Pen talent for young talent is that the Pen budget is going way up due to incentives?…
Panik’s not going anywhere.Still a solid defender(GG &All-Star throw in a W/S ring with solid D in that one) his contract is cheap,he makes contact as good as anyone, yeah it’s disappointing more hits don’t drop, but to move him for a older Sorgard?Hell no.
Solano and Panik make a good platoon for now, stick with it!!
“The net present value of the future value to the organizaton of the acquired assets has to exceed the NPV to it of the current assets…” For a moment there, I thought you were channeling one of James’ mind-twisters… 🙂
In other words, SELL !!!
Hmmm…..
There’s the face-the-harsh reality, build-for-the-future approach, and then there’s what’s actually happening out in Giants Nation, where a vast majority of fans see the team having a blistering pace of wins in the last month, and fans are very excited about a playoff race in Bochy’s last season.
Getting rid of productive players off the roster in the next few days won’t go down well.
I don’t know how Zaidi will play this, but he’s sitting in a hot seat.
I wonder if Zaidi’s mind is made up and/or how much the next few games will influence it…
We could stand to trade a reliever or 2 without doing too much damage to the current team. Pom pom pom pom pomeranz is looking solid in the pen, Melonhead is undealable anyway, but Gott, and/or Dyson could be traded for prospects. Boston, Chitown, Milwaukee can all use pen help. We can fleece them for something.
I’m with ya, AKJ. I just wish that Solano would be the starter and Panik be the backup.
Giants are showing interest in LHP Matthew Boyd Detroit.Im in and I want Nick Constellous( sp) OF/infielder.Start with Smith,Pillar&Belt seems fair..
I’d been thinking that the only productive players Z would trade would be from the bullpen, since that’s one of their areas of depth. There’s a whole handful of more or less unproductive hitters that “wouldn’t it be nice” if he could unload, but who would take them? Previous administration over-valued the *core* of infielders, which Z has absolutely no sentimental attachment to, but to trade them, some team still must want them. At this point, my expectations for wonderfully amazing moves before the deadline have gone way down, but maybe we’ll be surprised….
AK I think Farhan is basically in hold mode. We have some relievers we could trade for some prospects but I don’t think a blockbuster like that is coming.
I think he’s going to pull off a significant move or two. He’s too smart not to…
Can a significant move be made that doesn’t include Bum or TFLR?
Not IMO …
Yankees pitching has been getting chewed up the last week.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/07/latest-on-yankees-marcus-stroman.html
They may be getting antsy to fix that…
I hope the Cubs took most if not all of Holland’s contract the rest of the season, about $2.5 million left. They needed a Loogy, and that’s probably how they’ll use him. He’s crap against RHBs, but death on lefty hitters…
IN 13 MLB seasons, Tulowitzki played in 130+ games in only 3 seasons. Guy was always hurt.
His career earnings?
$164 million.
Crikey….
Guys like DiMaggio, Mays, and Aaron had to find income after their playing years were over.
As WillieD has said before, the teams ahead of the Giants in the WC aren’t tearing it up. It would be a different if a couple of the teams were.
Dodger rookie catcher Smith just called up, of course has an HR and a double today.
Well we should be rooting for LA this weekend…
Zman needs to poach a bunch of Doghair scouts. They seem to have an endless supply of really good minor leaguers, despite always picking late in the draft rounds…
“Dodgers take guy walking his dog near the stadium and put both on the team. The guy hits 2 HRs and 2 singles that day, and the dog hits a walk-off HR to win the game.”
I’m in the Seller camp for one reason. I don’t like a rebuild, but I can tolerate it. Most of my many years as a Giants fan was spent rooting for a team that basically went nowhere, so going nowhere for a couple of season is not a big problem. As long as the FO is making real progress, which they weren’t under Sabevans since 2016.. I’m not a season tix holder, I go to one or two games a year. So I’m not out money paying for a crap product. Those who are maybe aren’t so keen on selling now after some encouraging wins. I get that. But, the 3 in 5 trophies have taught me — it’s way more fun than I thought it would be, for my favorite sports team to win it all. I want more trophies. Selling older talent now to get more young talent that for another half decade puts SF back in the real hunt for a trophy — is what I’m after…
If Zaidi does some selling off, that’s quite a statement he has to give to the fans. “We’ve had fun for a month but we’re not good enough to go deep in the playoffs. So we’re going to build for the future instead.”
Oh man, he’d want to avoid social media for a long time.
He wasn’t brought here to be Sabean II…
The Boston massacre of the Yankees continues.
Yankees blew it by not going hard for Bum a few weeks ago. The Yanks, as good as they are, aren’t playoff ready.
1. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
2. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
3. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
4. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
5. Stephen Vogt (L) C
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Kevin Pillar (R) CF
8. Joe Panik (L) 2B
9. Shaun Anderson (R) P
Buster has started in 66 of the 103 games so far in 2019.
At that rate, he’ll start 103 games for the season.
Last year he started 101, and that considers he was out for about the last 30 games of the season with hip surgery the last week of August.
If he is going to miss starting 2 out of every 5 games from now on in his career, even if “healthy”, the argument that he’s needed to help steady the pitching staff, especially younger ones, loses a lot of persuasion power, IMO…
For the rest of this season, I think Giants fans should just consider it a platoon at catcher. You get better defense with Buster, but better offense with Vogt. Buster and Vogt seem to get along really well from what we hear.
Buster’s starts at firstbase have disappeared.
I think giants fans need to tamp down the idea that selling off couple relievers, best of whom is a 2 month rental and another one who is getting more expensive with every outing, brings back “valuable assets.:
Without Bum in the equation I can’t see someone giving the Giants a ML ready OF or 2b.
what you might get is an A ball prospect, decent enough but NOT someone to help the ML club til 2021 at best.
And remember, any of them could turn out to be next Velez or Gary Brown.
F/G column suggested SF could get 2 of Twins higher rated guys SP in AA/OF in A for Bum and Dyson. Separately, not happening. Same with Smith.
Did Machado even run on that DP?
Machado was really busting it down the line there, wasn’t he?
He was doing his Hasselhoff impersonation.

Joe West was faster than Machado there.
Be nice to score some early runs, eh? THese low scoring games are grinders.
They better not overturn this one.
These drawn out replays ruin shit. If they can’t make the call on the fioeld in a minute, leave the call in the field.
Fuck New York
That’s what I say every day…
I hate everything about NY sorry Loo
But another bullshit replay call on Vogt that’s 2 with the call in LA!!!
Feel free to elaborate any time you’re bored…
I would put Vogt in to start 3 of every 5 games, not 2.
And, I would consider next year hiring Vogt to be the new manager…
Romo traded to the Twins.
Good for him. Maybe a playoff in his future now…
Belt is worthless now. WTF?
At least he hit something.
He’s injured. We’re going to hear about it after the season is over. He’s not much of a hitter right now.
I agree, He’s probably got 1/2 an MCL tear or something, and they won’t disclose or fix it now. Giants beat writers either are clueless or know, but sworn to secrecy as part of being advised. In New York, the sports media would probably have Belt’s x-rays and MRIs…
then that’s on Belt. Get whatever is ailing you looked at and healed. What he is doing now at the plate isn’t helping the team. what good does it do the team to hide this if he does need surgery?
As long as Belt is still playing he could get traded before the deadline until the team he’s going to reveals his knee is shredded and all bets are off..
He seems to be running fine though.
I would love to know the breakdown on all instant replays percentages for all teams which I’m sure they have stats on.Im sure we’re near the top in getting screwed the most…
Anderson had a lot of drop on that off-speed pitch for a strikeout.
that was impressive. He got himself into trouble by beaning the .068 hitter then wild pitching both runners into scoring position. Then gets himself out of it.
baggs said it was a passed ball on Vogt, who is not the greatest defensive C. guy can hit though, like him a lot.
And as Baggs said Vogt called for another curve in the dirt and inning was over.
Does Connor Joe really classifie as a notable player?
that was hella throw by Mejia but looks like Yaz is in there.
Pads going with odd LU: Reyes their hard hitting OF is banged up, Margot weak hitting CF on bench so Myers in CF.
I don’t believe it they go a call right in NY!!
Then again Yaz was already in scoring postion, he does this bone head shit slot..
this is what you get with young prospect SPs which is what constitutes entire Pads rotation. Just like the guy last night he’s all over the place. does throw lot harder though.
Quantrill? He related to the other Quantrill? The Blue Jay?
yes.
Pillar needs to deliver!!
Fuck this. Fuck this. Fuck this.
So much for coming thru Kevin..
Pillar is 3 for last 24. 1 bomb (and 0 SBs) this month, with July OPS of .640. Maybe if I dis the guy he’ll get hot
Commence dissing.
And Belt as well..
Funny how 95.7 FM “the Game” was A’s flagship last year, then A’s left.
Now, 95.7 hosts rarely even mention the A’s, it’s all about the Giants.
I don’t even know what radio station the A’s are on now…
I think there’s a guy on Mt Diablo with a ham radio , , ,
So, the .068 hitter gets on due to a HBP and a 4 pitch walk.
Fuck this again,
Jesus Kuip stop sipping the vino and get a call right occasionaly..
Belt get the last laugh by, uh, walking back to the bench and the ump acknowledges his mistake.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
Back to his Gumpy shoulder shrugs..
How long do they keep putting him out there??
You walk the freakin pitcher .067 and you deserve that Thor..
Time to pounce on this guy Stammen!!
Quantrill looks like one of our cats pawing at the air when he sets his feet before throwing a pitch.
Fuck another wasted inning, lucky to get 1 I guess but Fuuucckkk
F-ing Myers. Wasn’t the stat last year that he hit more/as many HRs as RH at the O than anyone else?
Rest of league seems to be able to handle him. ?
3-44 and you walk him on 4 straight pitches!!!
I’m.pulling my hair!!
According to ESPN Myers is hitting .361 vs. Giants 3 HRs 9 rbis.
Vs, NL as whole, .212 9 HRs 22 rbis.
Belt has officially become a hologram. He isn’t doing shit OR shinola.
He may score> Shoulda had him.
