Deadline Coming
The reasons to sell are obvious. We are chasing a pipe dream just to maybe get to play a 1 game play-in. Hey, that game is great but is it worth it to risk our future for one game? And once the August swoon kicks in and we regress back to who we are we’re going to feel like idiots when we finish near the back of the WC chase and held on to our few appealing trade pieces.
Trade everyone.
If you want to hang with Dodgers you have to draft/develop like they do. Yes they have acquired position players who have done well for them like Turner Muncy and Kike Hernandez, but:
Seager 1st round picked 18th
Pederson 11th round
Verdugo 2nd round
Bellinger 4th round
Beaty (kid 1b) 12th round
will smith (kid C) 1st round picked 32nd
Buehler 1st round picked 24th
I don’t doubt at all Z will make some moves(trades/buy are moving more players from Sac up after the trades to solidify the pen)
With all his early revolving door of combos which has now started to work this guy is turning into the next ”Trader Jack McKeon”
I’d be really impressed if Z found a creative way to dump a contract or two, starting with Belt…
agreed even if they have to send back some $$$. Money isn’t giants problem and saving some on deals with couple years to go would be great.
Nats Matt Adams got hit in the foot by a pitch…Belt would be perfect there packaged with reliever.
One major improvement finally in their farm system is their international pool of players which sucked for a very long time..
Marco “Lucky”Luciano SS rated 3rd in their farm system
CF Alexander Canário
3B Luís Toribo All 3 top 10 prospects!
I think the emphasis is develop like they do. Even castoffs like guys like turner and muncy thrive within the Dodgers coaching. Just for fun I looked up 2016 draft. Already littered with guys in MLB already. Among others Alonzo, seinzel, quantril Luchesi Biggio Now Smith of LA. In 29 ab’s his WAR is 0.9 compared to Busters 0.7…
Giants did not have a 1st round pick. Not sure why. 2015 more of the same, and we got Bickford. Augh
They forfeited that 1st rd to the Whitesox’s when they signed the Shark 🦈 not the smartest move for sure..
Ok, Z-Man, time to do something so we can all stop the mental masturbation of “what will Z do?” and start chewing on the red meat of the merits of his moves……
There’s only one way to rock . . .
Damn, the fuckin’ A’s are looking at Synndergard. And they already got Homer Bailey.
Yeah, that Smargle deal gets better and better . . . grrrooooaaaaannnn.
Bailey sucks. Their problem is same one they had last year—OK you get into the WC game, vs. another really good team, so who do you pitch? they didn’t trust Fiers to do it in Yankee Stadium last year and they got whacked bye bye now. A’s are almost as annoying as Dodgers.
I am totally down with BF’s lede — it is time to get things done…
Yes it is. Pull the trigger already…
1. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
2. Tyler Austin (R) 1B
3. Austin Slater (R) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Zach Green (R) 3B
6. Kevin Pillar (R) CF
7. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
8. Mike Yastrzemski (L) LF
9. Madison Bumgarner (R) P
Yes!!No Belt!!
Rather go with Dick over Pillar too with Yaz in CF!
Joe Sheehan, baseball writer, talking to Lurie right now on KNBR and saying the Giants are crazy if they don’t sell…
reasons being?
What BF said, basically. And, what I’ve said.
Total long shot at making WCII, much less a run into playoffs, vs. making a haul to bolster your farm prospects that will set you up for a real run for the future. To him, an objective observer who is into baseball stats, it was a no brainer, exclusive of Giants fans considerations…
Bluejays trade Sogard to Tampa Bay..
Coonrod is up here to see what he can do as part of the trades calculus, that has to be the case. He looks pretty good. I’m betting Zman is going to do a lot of trading, not less. He’s got no personal capital in any of these guys that have been around. I wouldn’t have allowed Bum to start today, too risky with the deadline 3 days away…
Yeah, that’s key (especially re: “the core”.) MadBum might be the only one Z recognizes has sentimental value for the players.
And actual real value. Unless he’s already been traded, zero reason he shouldn’t start.
I hope he’s not starting because they’ve decided he’s not to be traded, but that’s my concern…
Yeah and besides I need the extra entertainment value of Joe West and Madison Bumgarner in a “Stare Down Battle”
Maybe West throws Bum out so he has no shot at an injury…
Yeah, I think it would be pretty funny if Boch gets thrown out of his last game in SD.
Forget what the fans are saying. The PLAYERS are on record as to saying they’ll be furious if they trade Bummie at this point. I just don’t think it’s a good look to dump your best player when the team is in the WC race and the manager is on his way out to polish up his hall of fame speech and go fishing. Does that mean we sign Bummie in the offseason? Probably. But I think Bummie isn’t going to ask for the moon.
From the Chron: Right-hander Johnny Cueto threw 25 pitches to hitters in Arizona, and his next assignment is to pitch in an Arizona rookie league game. Evan Longoria is a week to 10 days from returning to the Giants. He will take batting practice when the team gets to Philadelphia.
If Bummie stays, then gets offered millions more FA than the Giants will, he’s gone. I’ve already pointed out that for Bum, getting traded is the absolute best option for his personal financial situation going into the offseason…
Those stats were made under the old system where the trade deadline wasn’t really the end of trading. Still it says 20% of the propsects made the MLBs for at least two years. No discussion of how many of those “prospects” were graded at the time — some may have been throw ins at low levels. Now, the trade deadline is a real deadline, so I expect deals will be made for better prospect talent or they won’t get done. Plus, Fangraphs still projects Giants with a dogmeat 6% chance of getting to the WC. I’ll take my chances with Zman picking up prospects…
I was telling an Astros friend of mine that all of baseballs eye’s are on the Giants right now. I don’t think any big moves take place until Zman decides whether he’s a buyer or seller. Praying for the latter. I expect a flurry of moves at the 11th hour but not much before then.
Farhan Luke was brought in to keep a competitive team on the field while building on the farm system that was already starting to turn around. He puked up the competitive part in the first half using Bowker clones, but he has that turned around and with Shaw, and Gerber heating it up for Sacto, he has some movable parts going forward (we could still use another starting pitcher).
On June 1st we were 23-34, 11 games under .500. We are now 53-52, 1 game over .500. That my friends, is one hell of a run. Since June 1st we also have a run differential on the plus side, between 35 and 40 (sorry, I’m not doing the math on that one). Again, that is a hell of a run.
We have a much greater chance of getting to, and going deep into the playoffs this year than we do in trading for a difference maker.

By the way, Zaidi was not brought in to do a Miami or Padres style of rebuild. Yes those teams get top draft picks every year but the last time the Padres got in Bochy managed them and the last time the Marlins got in Livan pitched for them and Bobby Bo played 3rd base for em (Giant hero, Edgar Renteria was their SS).
Huntley released by A’s no surprise..
Brinkley probably not far behind…
Brought to you by John Chancellor.
If this is Bum’s last game for the Giants, and I hope it is for this season anyway, I’d like to see him go out a winner. Chances are slim they’d be able to re-sign him after a trade, but it’s not impossible — witness Yanks and Chapman. Trading him makes him a more marketable FA, and SF would be free to re-sign him. I would enjoy seeing Bum pitch for an AL team into the WS, and pitch against LA, and beat them (and Kershaw). That would be a dream result, and friggin’ fantastic…
Sell Sell Sell
Yaz man coming thru!
Nice ringing doubles by Craw&Yaz putting up a 2 spot..,
best productive inning in SD so far. Yaz pulls one into corner and Giants get Bum a lead.
Snarkk, I highly doubt trading off all the pitching (and hopefully Bum isn’t part of sell off) gets anywhere near “a haul to bolster your farm prospects that will set you up for the future.” what you will likely get are bunch of A/AA level guys, couple of whom might eventually work out, some certainly will not. In other words, long shots for the most part. Legit starters at ML level next year for 1b 2b or OF? NOT happening. No one can predict how players that young will advance through a system and perform at higher levels. And for majority it doesn’t work out at all.
I’m watching Robles and Soto whack the Dodgers today, terrific combo of speed and power. These type of players you have to find via drat. They are not coming in via trade for will smith or Watson or Dyson.
If Zman can’t get decent value in trade, he won’t do it…
hope everyone can live with that. I think majority of his moves to improve roster, at ML level and below, will come in off season. See how Yaz Dick slater and young pitchers pan out over couple more months and go from there. Giants might not be as far off as we thought couple months ago.
Pillar 0-11 in SD 4/34. sucker for low pitches out of the strike zone. Waved at that one and couldn’t hold up with man on 3b 2 outs inning over.
didn’t help the trade value there.
That’s not gonna attract many suitors.
Shit almost got out of the inning, but that pitch to Renfroe was right in the wheel house.,
Yeah the Robles,Soto,Acuna Jr is the ones your scouts need to find, hopefully Heliot Ramos can turn into one of those talents..
Per the Padre announcer, Madbum was only 1 bomb in his last 6 games (now 2) . . . Prior to those 6 games, he had 16 bombs for the season (16 games).
So, my question is this – are the last 6 games an anomaly or were the first 16 games an anomaly? In short, who’s the real Madbum?
Only the snot rockets know for sure.
Man I love Yaz’s stroke, always balanced!
man I like this guy. 2 out rbi hit up the middle. Unless he falls apart, solano is keeper for middle IF.
Nice job Solano picking up a needed rib there..
My take is that today is THE day!!
Win and the big trades are off. Lose and away Zman goes- -Bum and 2 relievers out the door. Although this won’t take place if the return is junk. Current score is not a good thing for keeping those guys.
Sure seems that way, it’s the 4th inning and Boch already is pinch-hitting for position players.
according to Pavs, bochy knew the first guy Morejon was only an opener so he told the LHs to stay ready, which fortunately paid off with Dick and Pablo. Plus they said the Pads lefty reliever couldn’t go today.
Dick ties it up!
Clutch.
Bum’s always given up his share of HR’s but not as rapidly as Pom-aBomb who’s given up the same amount as Bum(17)in 60 less innings..
Pillar like Belt just ain’t cutting it for me.
None of the starters are cutting it for me AK . . . They all have warts. Fact of the matter is this – our numero uno player (Longo) in WAR is on the injury list and I’ve looked at bis stats 7 ways from Sunday and nothing stands out as being impressive to me.
Only three dudes – Dickerson, Solano and Vogt – are having outstanding seasons with traditional high batting average, OBP, OPS, and SLG. The problem is that they all are playing part time or they just joined the team recently (Dick).
Doesn’t that say something about WAR?
How about a Bumgarner bomb just to complicate things a little?
bunt did pay off.
yaz having helluva day that might have gone out.
Yaz at the fence!
always good to get Myers out. Blade your 2:23 question is good one, and likely on minds of GMs too. I think answer is somewhere in between and he can still pitch effectively, even with current repertoire. Bombs will happen when he makes mistakes though. Pads guys have some power and have 4 runs off him today.
giants bats have given him a lead so far and he’s through 7 without high pitch count.
Went solid 9 las time out.
I’m sure lot of doubt about how well he would do in other less pitcher friendly yards than Oracle. Yanks fans have posted blog stuff he’d get lit up back there.
MLB.com reporter tweeting Stroman traded to the Mets.
Yeah 1 great day for Yaz 4-4 2 runs scored 2 RBI’s and a real nice ketch at the wall.Raised his average from .260 to .277 and his OPS up close to .800..
.832 OPS now
Ok, Bum could have bunted that, and saved Panik for a later time. I don’t get it…
Hey guys, since I got 86ed from Channel 720 the best place to find out what’s happening is you . Keep posting. Like I said if they win today Bum stays.
86 pitches I’m surprised Boch didn’t give Bum 1 more inning..
Trades are starting to move. Zman needs to get it going…
Yep, as Mac noted, Stroman on the Mets and Sogard is off the board too (thankfully).
Think NY is finally trying to even out some calls against the Giants!
The smokin Dick continues to erect!!
Too bad The Dick can’t play every day…
Dick blasts one one hop off the 396 sign. This guy Erlin and his .4.78 ERA isn’t as good as the other LHP guy Strahm they won’t use today. Insurance runs always good thing!
No bombs but 14 hits for Giants today.
Stroman was thought a Yankee target. Hope Yanks maybe getting desperate for a starter…
Atta boy Buster! Huge add on run!!
Shocking. A Buster clutch hit; nice….
Pillar needs an RBI here…
Joe West strikes again…
Way to advance Posey, Green lol 😂
Yes!!!! Buy Buy Buy
Sell Sell Sell
I’m all confused now 🤪
Lil’ Yaz with really strong game today at the plate and in the field.
Looks like this guy can play a little bit…
f-ing Myers. If he hit like this vs. everyone else he’d be first ballot HOF.
Wil > Will.
And that doesn’t help Smith’s trade value either..
Well, now we will see. I predict a very modest sell if at all. Will BF get his wish or not? I don’t think so. Beating the Pads 2 out of 3 doesn’t make them an auto WC but they STILL are on this streak. Tough to blow it up. If they had lost today they lost the series and the streak is over. We’ll see.
OSF
Alright! MadBum W, big day for Yaz, and another series win!
A win for Bum, a win for the Giants.
Belt with best seat in the house on a day Giants get 16 hits and score 7. hmmnn
Take it anyway we can!
2out of 3 on to Philly for 4 huge games!!
Giants should hit 6 or 7 HRs during the visit to Philly.
Trade deadline is Wed at 1 pm PST…
Whatever happens, only one thing will truly upset me regarding deadline trades and that’s if the Bums are able to convince the hapless Pirates to trade Felipe Vazquez for one of their stud prospect catchers (they have 2). Unfortunately, I think that will happen because the Pirates desperately need a catcher.
Vazquez is the real deal and just may be the Dodgers “Heimlich maneuver” to their post season choke jobs.
LA is on its way to the Series again, barring a minor miracle. I’m hoping for a 3-peat loss in the Fall Classic…
AK, like you say, “On to Philly!” How does Zman blow this up? Don’t see it. However, then we know BF will be ragging on us forever how we didn’t clean house when they finish out of the WC. But, if you leave the game you never know how it will turn out. (Victory Card Room logic circa 1961.)
M#20!!! Bochy 8 over .500…let the relievers fly the coop.. we need 2 upper tier prospects 3-4 mid-tier and I’m pretty happy.
Other questions inquiring minds are asking . . . Do the Mets even have a fucking plan? I mean the Mets are a half dozen games under .500, right? Trading for Stroman makes little sense to me. Unless this Is part of a larger future trade (involving Syndergaard)? Dunno. Van Wagenen doesn’t seem to have a clue either, e.g., taking on that Cano deal was another brain dead move in my opinion.
Loo? Mac? What say you?
Yeah, and giving up two of their top prospects, especially Jarred Kelenic, for that Cano contract and Edwin Diaz, who gave up another bomb today.
Here’s the NY Post version…
https://nypost.com/2019/07/28/sorting-through-confusion-of-mets-marcus-stroman-trade/
Driving this afternoon, listening to the game on KNBR, the station is running an ad that uses audio from an interview with Bochy, where Bochy says: “I’m up for going for one more shot at this. I’m all in on this.”
The Giants have been playing .600 ball in the last 50 games.
I don’t see how Zaidi can do stuff that will be perceived as pulling the plug on this. I guess I’ll marvel at his steel nerves if he goes ahead and sells some guys off. He’d have a fun time the next time he visits the clubhouse. And he’d need to avoid social media for a long time.
The Giants have won 7 series in a row. I think that’s what one of the broadcasters said.
Kudos to Bochy for going to Sandoval and the Dick to PH early in the game to sustain a rally. I love the aggressiveness of that.
This team is also “Road Warriors “ of late 29-24 overall that’s what will keep you in a W/C slot usually it’s .play .500 on the road and kick ass at home, this team is opposite of that…
