A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Winning

Still clicking along at .700 ball over our last 10 games. If we keep that clip up for the rest of the year the WC is guaranteed. I don’t suspect we will keep that up but who knows?

Day off today and then Philly. Could see that one going either way…..

Calling out Flap Nation…do we have Flap signal ala the Bat Signal??? Would ot just be a Flav silhouette???

Calling for a Flap Fest 2.0…booked a flight home mid-August..smack cab in the middle of the A’s series at ATT Oracle!!! I’m calling for a Flap Fest for the Wednesday day game with cheap bleacher seats to sustain this run that began with the first Gathering…game time 3:45 I think and I am prepared to arrive around Noon for a local and cheaper watering hole and getting our smack down 3-4 hours before game time!!!

With what the Blue Jay’s landed for Stroman, who has a couple more guaranteed years under contract I believe, which was not much in prospects, less will be offered for Bum.

So no need to trade Bum and will land with more negativity. But what could we deal to land Boyd? Would anyone here trade Beede for Boyd?

What would it take to land Puig??? Don’t think it would take one of our very few elite prospects…that right-handed bat would sit nicely in our cleanup spot and he would have a nice Flodger chip on his shoulder…

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 29, 2019 at 9:00 am

Beede wouldn’t be enough for Boyd and the only way we trade for Puig is if Bum is gone.

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 29, 2019 at 9:16 am

I’m sure Bum & Puig could put their past nonsense behind them, but I don’t even know what the Giants could offer for Puig or if they even want him…

      • gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on July 29, 2019 at 9:33 am

I agree with Loo…I think Bum could bury the hatchett… maybe literally. But hey give him 2 months in a Giant uni and see how the team reacts around him and then they are not burdened by offering a free agent contract. Who in baseball in contention will trade a major prospect for Puig? I think no one. Reds are not re-signing him and I really dont see him staying in Cincy. 2 mid-tier prospects at most I think he gets him…we have a lot of mid-tier level prospects.

      • gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on July 29, 2019 at 9:33 am

Beede then what else? Would you do that deal?

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 29, 2019 at 9:17 am

      Puig is toxic.
      No dice…

      • sandog's avatar sandog said, on July 29, 2019 at 9:22 am

        Black Shoes Beede is untouchable.
He’s the cornerstone of the renaissance.
Mets GM is a knucklehead. That deal is a total outlier.

  6. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 29, 2019 at 9:21 am

  8. Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 29, 2019 at 9:25 am

Puig sucks. He always has. And now he cares mostly about pumping up his biceps for the pose down he has with his fellow outfielders mid inning–who knows, maybe they are posing down during a pitch

  9. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 29, 2019 at 9:27 am

Puig does have 22 HRs, though with a small home ballpark. His OBP is pretty low.
Pillar has a low OBP, too, but he brought intensity to the Giants when he came here. 100% effort and leadership and inspiring defense. Pillar CARES. It’s hard to see Puig caring.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 29, 2019 at 9:33 am

Puig cares about the peak of his biceps. That’s it. Guy is a total loser.

      • gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on July 29, 2019 at 9:36 am

I dont disagree but totally see him as the type of player the Giants would pursue because no one else that is a slugger will come to SF…I’d rather experiment for 2 months…

I am concerned about Pillar’s slump. But he does have some hard-hit balls right at the defense. It could mean more starts for someone else in center, I’ve cooled on Austin. I could see Duggar coming up for Austin.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 29, 2019 at 9:41 am

Mancini would be a great pick up and the Sleep World promotions are a natural fit. Hard no on Puig. He’s been on two teams now where his own teammates have called him out as an F-ing moron. I just don’t know why anyone would proactively pursue him for their clubhouse.

With the trade deadline approaching, I’d be uneasy if I was Austin – dude is not hitting and is a zero on defense.

Sorry for being unable to respond any quicker. So I have not seen the father and my fraternity brother in 26 years. Randomly ran into him in North Beach right before I moved to DC. When shit went down with his dad being falsely accused by his mother, it was so high profile at the time that Tom took a back seat to being engaged socially. So we fell off. Had no idea he had been married and 4 kids. He was always the type wanting to be thought of as elite growing up with his father being a big name and Tom himself was a massive high school long distance runner. He went to Independence when I was there then transferred somewhere like Leland on the west side…

The photo of the house reminded me of the opening of the Elton John song, “Ticking.” Bernie Taupin’s lyrics about a young man with a gun.

“An extremely quiet child” they called you in your school report
“He’s always taken interest in the subjects that he’s taught”
So what was it that brought the squad car screaming up your drive
To notify your parents of the manner in which you died?

      • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2019 at 11:29 am

It’s from his 1974 album “Caribou.” The two big hits from the album are “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” and “The Bitch Is Back.”

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 29, 2019 at 11:57 am

I heard Elton sing “Ticking” in concert a few years after Lennon’s death. He did that song, then his and Bernie’s song about the loss of Lennon, “Empty Garden Song,” and then Lennon’s “Imagine.” A powerful 3-song remembrance of Lennon.

Absolutely a big fat NO on Puig. Toxic is not strong enough. Stupid and aggressive and in no way should represent The City.

In Gilroy: What in the fuck is the logic to allow a 19 year old to legally buy an assault rifle in Nevada?

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2019 at 1:33 pm

Talk to Indiana. 95% of the guns in Chicago come from Indiana.

There are easy steps here to stop the madness that is gun violence in this country. Background checks on EVERY gun purchase. Close the loopholes around these fly-by-night gun shows. Ban assault rifles. Ban bump stocks. Ban high capacity magazines. Institute a buy-back program nationwide.

Will this end gun violence? No but when Clinton banned assault rifles back in 1994, attacks with those types of weapons went down nearly 40%.

Supposedly they snuffed out that bastard within minutes of his rampage, but even a minute feels like a lifetime in those situations. One of the victims was a 6 year boy and a girl 13,wtf is wrong with society to resort to such senseless killings??

    • gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on July 29, 2019 at 1:37 pm

Unfortunately mental health I think is a big factor in these shootings and I support that mental health professionals and family who have children being treated should be on a no gun list…we just have to force the issue of putting these mental health sufferers on such a list.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2019 at 1:56 pm

You can thank Ronnie Raygun for cutting the Mental Health Systems Act put in place by Jimmy Carter at the cost of funding the arms race with Russia. Closing all of these mental health facilities dumped the problem onto the police and the hospitals to deal with. Homelessness went up dramatically.

And the fact that somewhere around 60% of those in the most dire need of help are vets is even more heartbreaking. Either they get caught in the web of red tape and can’t wade through it, or they just give up and kill themselves. Trump has no problem spending $millions o his golf weekends and parades, but is not doing shit for vets. He said he would fix the VA in 30 days. All he has done is cut funding.

Pretty cool vid of Gibson v Giants at the Stick back sometime in the late 60s.
Check it out around the 0.50 mark — if he’s pitching today, some of these umps would likey say he’s not coming set, and call a balk.
I didn’t remember he fell off to the first base side so much on his follow through. Looks like a nasty slider he’s got going. More of that game vids on that same site. It has cool home movie videos of the ’30s thru ’60s MLB…
