A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Sarge would have a tough time talking Diggity into sitting in these sits which aren’t nearly the mile away from the field they need to be for him to sign off with a knowing dude head nod:

I think the intended slur of Fredo Cuomo was a jibe at him being the lesser brother in the family like Fredo Corleone..the Dems would be better off running Gov. Cuomo in 2020. I think he would be a real threat.

My boys here in the Bay Area did a twice a year campout in Half Moon Bay. I attended a few years ago and after about 8 hours of drinking, they always arranged a pickup of about 30 Round Table pizzas to go and they were phenomanal!!! But I grew up on Mountain Mike’s as the go to…

? for those who have been to day games at the O: what I remember about Stick was that as sun shifted from 3b to 1b, if you sat in 3b side in shadows plus the wind. the temperature dropped dramatically by late game. Anyone who showed up in tee shirt/shorts quickly got dose of reality of difference from south bay (90 degrees) and SF (70s at best) summer day.
So what happens at the O?

    • gianthead's avatar gianthead said, on August 14, 2019 at 8:28 am

So true wd… as a high school kid went a Sunday double header and was down third base line but second section and we froze our asses off but Giants won and then second game we said f this and Sat in the upper deck CF and if those remember that view, you were a long way off to barely seeing the hitter but we were warm.

But that then led to getting autographs in the players lot of Max Venable (driving a shitty VW bug) and Chili Davis and my famous moment of Chili telling my buddy who was desperately looking for Chili’s picture in the program guide that he was “up shit’s creek” if he could not find the picture. Classic memory!!!

Sweet win last night, and definitely a feel of 2010 torture there at the end. Not feeling great about today. A’s can bash with the best of them, and Beede hasn’t been great of late…most of his shit has looked like “hit me batting practice stuff.” Hoping for a surprise and a two game sweep.

Have fun GHead. Bring us a win, bro!

  16. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on August 14, 2019 at 9:45 am

Meaty Beede does fine until something goes awry. Like a walk, an error, or a hit given up. Then he gets cute and nibbly and the wheels fly off, it seems. He needs to nut up and gut through the trouble. He’s 26 now so he should be past this point in his development.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on August 14, 2019 at 9:47 am

Yeah…I just seem to recall him getting too much of the plate of late, especially in situations where he has runners on. Dude needs to keep the ball down and work the corners more, IMO.

Speaking of record-breaking heat….in regards to climate change, and global warming, the status of the Giants’ ballpark, and San Francisco in general, is going to be challenging later in the century. The ballpark, of course, is right at the water line. I guess coastal cities will be trying to build massive sea walls or something. Water is so relentless and powerful, though. There will be an ugly sandbag phase at first, probably. That won’t look so cool on TV.

Speaking of sea walls and high water levels, The Windup Girl is an interesting sci-fi novel set in 23rd century Thailand that depicts Bangkok in a flooded state, even with a huge sea wall beyond which no one can go. The windup girl herself is sort of a hybrid of human and technology. Didn’t really like the characters except for the windup girl, she was pretty cool, but picturing Bangkok (a city I know fairly well) underwater in parts was interesting. Maybe not all that far off, and not all that much fiction someday…..

The Fresno Grizzlies are the Nationals’ AAA affiliate nowadays.
    This happened:

“A man participating in a taco eating contest at a Fresno Grizzlies baseball game died, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.
Dana Hutchings, 41, was pronounced dead at Community Regional Medical Center after being rushed there from Chukchansi Park on Tuesday night, the coroner’s office said Wednesday.
There is no official cause of death pending toxicology reports and a review of the man’s medical records. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, though it could take up to a month for a final determination to be made, coroner’s spokesman Tony Botti said.
Emergency staff at the hospital did clear food from Hutchings’ throat, Botti said, and preliminary indications are that he died of choking.
In a news release, Grizzlies team president Derek Franks said, “We are devastated to learn that the fan that received medical attention following an event at Tuesday evening’s game has passed away.
“The Fresno Grizzlies extend our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the family of Mr. Hutchings. The safety and security of our fans is our highest priority. We will work closely with local authorities and provide any helpful information that is requested.”
Fans at the game said a man collapsed to the ground in the middle of the taco eating contest. Emergency medical technicians attended to Hutchings and administered the Heimlich maneuver and CPR before paramedics arrived in an ambulance and tried to resuscitate him.
Tuesday’s contest was being held on “Taco Tuesday” as a prelude to the ninth annual Taco Truck Throwdown, scheduled for Saturday.”

The key for the Giants going forward is the international players actually all of baseball ⚾️ that’s the frontier of baseball moving ahead imo.
Giants have the hot shot SS with already the cockiness who says : “I want to be on this team in 3 years and be the “face of the franchise” his name is # 3 prospect Marco “Lucky” Luciano( I’m giving him the Lucky after gangster days but it’s perfect) they also have a#7 prospect in power hitting OF Alex Canário,a 3B with power Luis Toribo, then you throw in Dubon at 2nd, hopefully Jaylin Davis gets a look( still don’t know why he’s not up right now), Joey Bart C, OF Heliot Ramos OF Hunter Bishop,Logan Wyatt and even possibly that 6’11 pitcher Heige (sp),yeah they have to dump a lot of rotten to the core players, which Z will figure out, but it looks pretty good going forward with some added power desperately needed..

It can’t be that hard to stretch a reliever out these days. You don’t have to turn a 2 inning guy into an 8 inning guy. You turn a 1-2 inning guy into a 4-5 inning guy and it’s good enough. Maybe someone like Coonrod could be a starter down the road…

Well, I see Beede did his usual mental meltdowns, though I’m surprised there was just one homer. 8 hits in 4 frames, uh, not good. The dude has MLB stuff, and maybe a single A mental approach. He seems to get rattled consistently.
They need to bring up this Logan kid and give him a shot at starting. He’s off PEDs now, or at least has a better masking agent, hopefully. Otherwise, the rotation is basically Bum and Samardzxx + the 3 Stooges…

The 3 titles were all about pitching – I have no fuckin’ idea what the winning formula is now…

        Exactly.
Those three “beauties’ were earned by the arms that Bochy ran out there.
You can win without much pitching if you have overwhelming firepower at bat — like the Yanks. But, that’s pretty rare, and in playoffs, really good pitching should beat that — Hello ‘Stros…

I also see Lil’ Yaz went Yard again.
How did the Orioles miss on him?
Same way Sabevans missed on Reynolds? (although he’s much younger than Lil’ Yaz)

I’m fine with Pillar and Yaz playing every day. They always bring it and are the least of our problems.
Bochy & crew pulled off some kinda miracle in July, but I can’t wait to see who replaces him…

    Astros-Dodgers should be entertaining.
    Is there any doubt?
