Finally, A Man Emerges
Everyone was talking about what an opportunity last night was for DRod and that was definitely true. He took advantage of it. Before the game, Krukow did his usual spiel about how his struggles this season were “100% mechanical” and that it’s been a greater challenge *getting right* because of his shuttling back and forth from MLB to AAA and the fact that he’s been in the bullpen and missing the routine of being a starting pitcher. I can support some of that. The other piece is that he’s just a marginal guy who has to be totally focused up every start with his *best stuff* with him every time he toes the rubber. And that’s not the end of the world if this is who he is. At least he can give us a start like this now and again. He’s been the only youngster to step up this August so we need to give this guy his due for last night’s performance.
Cueto was hitting 93 last night in his rehab start. That shimmy is getting closer and closer to returning and I’ve just about taken home that ten bones from Diggity….
this is pretty funny
that IS funny
You forgot to mention your affirmation of Mac’s VMI comment . . . Consequently, I like DRod’s outstanding game last night, but how much of his start is attributable to the Snakes being flat after playing in Sherpaville???
Some for sure but beede had a shot last week at a bad hitting vmi team and he got raked
Real nice pitching performance by D-Rod, yes it had to be frustrating being on the yo-yo bus 🚌, but the Giants were right:”It’s time to put up are shut up” and hopefully the message has sunk in with that outstanding job and he’s here to stay, cause they need that from the back of the rotation!
i didn’t confirm this at fangraphs but Kruk was saying that when things were bad this season the only pitch DRod felt confident throwing was the change up. That approach presents obvious problems……
Seeing a lot of chatter about bringing Cueto back ASAP/early which I would be a mistake.
Coming from the Giants? Or just in general. I’ve pretty much heard September as the go-time.
Doesn’t Cueto need to pitch in August to be eligible for post-season play?
Bring Cueto back. Shit have him take a hitter today. I need to lock that ten spo up before he falls down a flight of stairs or some shit.
Yes, I’ve been saying for a while that Cueto has to be on the active 40 on Aug 31 to be eligible for, ahem, the post season…
Hey Boch loves his Vets and stated Shimmy will pitch down the stretch and with the uncertainty of the back of the rotation it will be a done deal.
And yes I believe he has to be on the roster by Aug 31 to be eligible for the improbable playoff run..
I guess Dutch Holland is fitting in nicely in Chicago, giving up the walkoff Grandslam to Bryce Harper last night!
😂
Lol that was Holland? Ha, I watched that video 10 times, never considered who the pitcher was.
Here’s what I’ve seen on it.
https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/giants/giants-have-internally-discussed-speeding-johnny-cuetos-return
Pitching is pitching. Whether facing A, AA, AAA, or major league guys. He’ll be on a pitch count and will be watched closely. They aren’t really ‘rushing’ his return, just changing the opponent.
Point being, he couldn’t do much worse than the kids who are tripping over their collective dicks.
Speaking of Dick, hope he’s in the lineup tonight.
Article on the Giants web site (day he was activated and Pablo was put on the IL) said Swinging Dick is expected to be in the line-up tonight.
Looks like we have a New Starting pitcher for Saturday’s game Logan Webb flying today to Arizona!Man I love Z’s approach getting some new fresh blood in here. Now get me Jaylin Davis soon!
Anybody think Duggar isn’t long for this team after 2 shoulder injuries? I say no..
Agree AK. Besides being injury prone, he’s “just another guy” stat wise. Pillar was brought in by Mr. Z (thank God for us) because he knew immediately that Duggar was not the answer in CF, despite SabEvans “crowning” him the future CF.
Yaz in the lead-off. Swinging Dick in the 3 hole. Shark against Mike I Sprung a Leake…
1. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
2. Buster Posey (R) C
3. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
5. Scooter Gennett (L) 2B
6. Kevin Pillar (R) CF
7. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
8. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
9. Jeff Samardzija (R) P
Go Gigantes!
Mike I sprung a Leake..Lol Chi!
Yeah it’s payback time, cause he certainly sprung a few Leakes pitching for us! Go Giants!!
It’s a big series this weekend between Atlanta and the Dodgers, as far as Atlanta trying to prove they’re ready to be a challenge to the Dodgers in the playoffs. Or if they’re just going to get rolled in the playoffs again by the Dodgers or somebody else. Atlanta needs to get past the “we’re just happy to be in the playoffs” phase.
Somewhere in the logjam the Giants are 4 out in the LC of the 2nd WC…
The Kuipers’ father passed away.
And Peter Fonda.
the only thing I remember about Leake is that as soon as the Giants were out of it he threw like 8 innings of shut out ball. When I get home I might look that game log up to see how close I got to that guess.
Beltran did a similar thing in ‘11. Did nothing to help the team as they sank in the West, and then started hitting when they were about 10 games out.
Beltran’s final Giants stats look good, but they were mostly accomplished during the “garbage time” of the last month.
Agree Zumie, Beltran I expected more out of him,not a garbage time to pad his stats. But now I look at the trade Zach Wheeler is more just hype then overall production,42-37 in 5 years with the Mets and now 30? with injuries setting in, no be shakes for me..
Good job, Flavor.
Here’s Leake’s incredibly tardy gem…

Boom. Only off by an inning. 1 k, Jesus. He’s taking us to the woodshed tonight, isn’t he?
How about Bochy finally sequestering the Brandons at the bottom of the lineup?
Gotta love that…
What is nice about being home besides taking in an actual game, but to actually sit (ok half asleep for parts of it) in front of a TV and watch a 7-0 victory from 2nd pitch (ok, thought the game was starting at 6:45) to the last pitch…when I am back in Virginia land, it is hard to concentrate on an entire Giants game without wife and children distractions or the 3 hour time difference to stay actually awake. Was like growing up but mostly listened to those games on KNBR and often every pitch.. go Giants…Magic #13…
They should go with that relief starter thing when Cueto comes up and have Cueto pitch to the bottom of the opposing lineup in the 3rd and then maybe get 3 innings out of him.
I glanced at a couple of bottom feeder teams in the AL and a couple of vet pitchers who could get conceivably released and the only two who jumped out at me were Mike Montgomery or Ross Detwiler. Either night be more serviceable. Beede might be at the end of his better days this year…
Loo I love those 2 at 7/8. Last night no Craw and Belt batting 8th and they score 7 runs of 13 hits. They should both stay there now that Panik’s a Met.
Think they could just sequester both Brandon’s in a hotel permanently?
3 pitches in 1-0 Dbacks!
Come on, that’s just how he rolls. If he don’t spot em one, he ain’t got em, son.
A few Phillies fans chanting “We got Harper” during Machado AB, haha.
And that’s why Buster still catches!
Awesome gundown of Ahmed!
ha ha Posey picks off Ahmed at 2b and now after the K Smrdz almost out of it.
Marte really is special player, very cool. He can play defense too.
boom what a rocket! Giants take lead 2-1.
Yaz !!! Hit it here to the Giants family and he almost did! Incredible!
I still think when this season ends Yaz will lead the team in HR’s with half the AB’s of the other teammates..
you just may be right
Pillar retakes HR lead. When he is hot, like now, he brings a lot to game. Still think he should be batting higher in order, somewhere top 3.
Great to see Giants thrash Leake.
Then again Pillar might decide I’m taking the HR title..
The Yankees finally got torched on the opener thing. I guess Chad Green was phenomenal for 11 games and then got bombed last night or the night before. I like the suggestion above to try an opener with Cueto. But I can’t say why.
Dodgers beat Atlanta pretty handily. Atlanta will be a pushover in the playoffs.
and the Cubs bullpen gives up another walkoff
The NL is kind of weak this season, other than the Dodgers. And the Dodgers’ bullpen isn’t all that great.
Get this: Max Kepler of the Twins, whom I never heard of till tonight, just set a record with 33 homers for a European-born player. He’s from Germany. Guess which Giant held the previous record?
🧐 No fucking clue. Had no idea a Giant held the record.
Bobby ‘The Shot Heard ‘Round the World’ Thomson, 32 homers, 1951. He was born in Scotland.
Wow. That’s cool. Thanks for that, Pawlie. And a Scot, to boot. I have a fair amount of Scottish blood running through me.
If I wasn’t slumped over in a chair like the 95 year old man I feel like, I believe I would’ve come up with “The Flying Scot” (who hit the shot)…
Damn. Out to dinner and sitting at the bar. Finish dinner, 0-0, walk to the car after dinner, and boom, caught Yaz’s HR.
Up to that point I was not having a good feeling about this game. Keep that train a rollin,’ al night long.
Smoking hit by Belt!
Yaz has a gigantic glove.
He haz? I’m listening on radio. Pretty sure I heard Kuiper before I dozed off.
Has he heard about his dad?
Loo, I read where he’s flying out tomorrow to Racine Wisconsin, I assume his brother Glen will too.Funeral is on Monday Aug 19th..
This gigantic gloves are not working out to well tonight..
Could of been worse.Monfatso just the baseloaded battle run..
Holy shit. Yaz x 2!
My man Yaz!!!
2nd bomb 💣
That Yaz HR had a great sound. It’s nice hearing the Giants make that sound more often.
Apparently MLB gloves can’t be longer than 13 inches. Yaz’s glove must be right at 13 inches.
Maybe he’s using the Butler model.
“The list of big-glove violators included San Francisco’s Brett Butler (who used a 14-inch glove for years)”
Yaz now 1 HR behind Pillar in 230 less AB’s!
Bad flub by the 3b coach. Wotus botched that.
Just catching the last couple of innings. Giants seem to be firing on all cylinders again. Snakes antidote to what was ailing them against the A’s, no???
different team on road. 13 hits 7runs last night, 4 bombs 12 more hits 7 runs again tonite.
this game ain’t over though. Watson straining here with 5 run lead.
Yaz only 2HR’s tonight?
Jaylin Davis has hit 3HR’s tonight for the Sacramento Rivercats!
But still can’t get a sniff for the big club..
Anyone still wishing we had Adam Jones? I doubt it.
Might change my mind now Zumie after that Blast!
The lead gone my god!
.
Wtf is going on?
OK. Get Watson the fuck outta there….
Watson has just been getting HAMMERED lately..
Fuck!
What were you saying about Jones?
WTF. Two on two out, what the hell you doing throwing a challenge fastball!?
Stuck at this Avett bros. concert. Did like Lakeshore Dive…. fuck
You are seeing the Avetts tonight?
Yup. The Greek in Berkeley
Not a country fan they are talented but not really my thing.. didbkike lakeshore dive
should have traded Watson back to Dodgers when they had a chance.
Come on, the dude hasn’t hit an HR in a month and a half, and Coonrod grooves one down the middle. Fine, face on me. Horrible pitch, though.
Coonrod=Strickland
This is a game a healthy Dyson could have helped. Bochy used Moronta early.
Watson looks like a different guy lately. His stuff is very hittable lately.
I take a 15 minute shower – wtf happened??? So much for firing on 8 cylinders.
They sputtered down to 1 cylinder with Watson&Coonrod blowing gaskets along with most of the Flap watching..
Fucked up loss if it comes to
That
Think we’re just setting up a 3rd HR for Yaz to win it after hopefully they get out of the 9th inning..
Man, if Watson is going to struggle, we’re in some trouble.
Bright spot this kid Gustave has been lights out since he was recalled..
BOOM!
Break out the Saran Wrap for BF; Pillar with his 2nd dinger of the game…
No Shit Snarkk lol 😂
Thank god for mlb updates. PILLAR!!!!!!!
I’ll settle for a 2nd Pillar HR!!!!
Are the Giants back to hitting again? Or, is the Dbacks pitching just sucky?…
Bochy has got to, got to get Solano into some kind of rotation.
The guy is 2 for 2 tonight after coming in mid-game.
He’s an energy guy, he stirs things up at the plate…
Pillar digs this ballpark.
Who knows who cares? We need the win.
It’s telling how comfortable Bochy was with double-switching Solano in for Craw.
Smith coming in?
