A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

A Full Week of The Wilderness Begins

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on March 16, 2020

I appreciate you guys getting so into that Cain Perfecto getting replayed. I didn’t watch it personally, it’s nearly impossible for me to watch a sporting event if I already know the outcome. I can watch snippets and endings no problem. But not the entire games. The obvious exceptions are horse races. It is quite common for my early Sunday mornings to be spent on youtube watching old Breeders Cup races.

So now a complete week begins of us TRULY wandering into the wilderness. We joke about the Giants being lost in it. Now we’re all in it. This is an awful, empty feeling with things about to get much worse with no end in sight……

It was cool to see yard full and all fired up. Giants thrashed J A Happ early and often, Cain had off speed and high hard one (topped out 93-94 mostly 91-92) working and got calls from ump. there was an Astro (Wallace maybe?) who took called 3rd late game and you could see he said “c’mon”. Kuiper said hey the way this is going you better be up there swinging the bat. No Kruk that night on air either.

Tho some of choices are odd, it is cool to check out that link Mac provided for other teams top games. Definitely watchable.

3 different stories about Cain and broadcast yada yada on nbc site. One of the stories surrounds golfer Dustin Johnson and couple other guys hitting tee shots from home plate into the cove and whether Cain would be allowed to do so by Sabes who was watching, 3 hours before game time. In one of the stories I believe it said Cain had already signed his big $125 mil deal before 2012 season tho I don’t remember when that was.

Cain threw 125 pitches and struck out 14. More than one blogger made comments he blew himself up that night and was never the same. Thoughts? Kru always said he had 140 in him iirc.

125 pitches shouldn’t ‘blow up’ a major league pitcher.

April 2 of 2012 Sabes extends Cain. Set to make $15 mil that season, giants signed deal that guaranteed 5 yrs/$112.

Altuve got a couple of highly questionable strike threes called on him in that game, especially the one up around his shoulders. Although he was crouching, too, so the ump took that into account. But that’s a pitch you usually see called a ball.
Cain had great stuff that night, an ump that was looking for strikes, a rebuilding Astros team, and some great plays on defense behind him. Everything aligned for him.

Krukow later said that he had the night off, and was in his condo near the ballpark watching the game on TV, and was so tempted to go over to the ballpark during the game, but didn’t want to jinx the perfect game. Krukow is from the era of big-time belief in jinxes. Plus baseball players in general have a higher belief in jinxes than other sports, I’m guessing.

Cain went 8-3 after the perfecto so It doesn’t seem that he was ruined after that game.

Wow. 49ers sign Arik Armstead and trade DeFo Buckner.

I have never met a human being with either of those first names…

They traded DeAndre Hopkins for that???

Lol. yeah, Texas is showing some pretty strong ineptitude.

      • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on March 16, 2020 at 4:51 pm

Agree Houston just took the cattle prod up the ass with this one-sided trade..
Sure didn’t want to see Hopkins ( who takes over for Fitzgerald as #1) coming to the NFC West now for 2 meetings with the 49ers every year..

MLB delays opening day until mid-May, at the earliest…

Time to go back and sit by my window…

I think we are looking at June earliest.

The spread of this virus depends on the cleanliness of random strangers. SF and 6 bay area counties just ordered a ‘shelter in place’ order for everyone. Not quite full lockdown. But close.

Problem is, no one has tests so no one knows who is sick. This has basically been left unchecked for 4 weeks. Still no tests available.

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on March 16, 2020 at 3:49 pm

        NYC is basically closed…

  9. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on March 16, 2020 at 3:29 pm

Yeah, that SUCKS for the NFC west. Hopkins is my favorite WR in the league the last few years. the dude is an absolute stud.

Houston got a little smitten with Derrick Henry it looks like.

Decision on Kentucky Derby will be announced tomorrow morning.
Sounds like they’ll postpone rather than race at an empty track…

San Francisco and all the bay area counties are pretty much shutdown as well till atleast April 7th.Then who knows Marshall Law? Screw that!

I’m excited about the Buckner trade. If this allows them to package both their first rd picks to get into a position to draft Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb I am ALL IN.

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on March 16, 2020 at 5:12 pm

Marshall Plan, not Marshall law. Martial law.

    Cool stuff from 1982.

Don;t you remember DeForest Kelly from Star Trek, DJ?

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on March 16, 2020 at 6:43 pm

I know nothing about Star Trek, Chuck.
Awesome video, but they sure glossed over the details of those 2 losses on the last weekend…

    • Winder's avatar Winder said, on March 16, 2020 at 6:46 pm

Thanks for that Chuck. I loved the 82 team, me and my wife went to see em just about every weekend they were home.

  14. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on March 16, 2020 at 5:20 pm

Yeah, the Niners got a solid pick for DeFo. We are short a lot of picks so I see more trades down the line. Witherspoon and Goodwin being guys on the block. They won’t get 1st rounders for them but maybe a 3 and 4.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on March 16, 2020 at 6:25 pm

nobody is giving up shit for Goodwin with the $ he’s still owed and he can’t stay healthy. 3/4 rd pick is a pipe dream.

The Marshall plan was rebuilding Europe after WW II.

  16. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on March 16, 2020 at 5:32 pm

Jeudy is a stud. Lamb is way skinny. Jeudy’s teammate Harry Ruggs from Ala is faster than shit but only 5’11. Still a 4.27 40 is insane. He’s DSJ-like.

chuck, the 49ers going all in to improve the offense and hoping to sort of hold together a good to dominant pass rush? Seems like they have to add a corner and most likely safety now?

Marcus Mariota to sign with the Raiders lol 😂
Coming in to push Derek Carr as a solid backup.
Right, first you have to be a solid backup which Mariota is not, só I don’t see any value picking this chump up…

    One week after the Travers.

82 was awesome! Started my senior year in HS in 82. My Giant buddy and i were at the Morgan homer game. jack Clark still in my top 5 favorite giants of all time. I was in a hospital after a head on collision when Clark hit the homer off Dodgers with the Cards in 85. Scared the shit out of the hospital staff when i started screaming and yelling. My mom got a kick out of that:)
