Draft Day
MLB draft starts today. The Giants have 7 picks in the first 5 rounds….
Today’s Guess the Flapper is a little different. This is a picture from a 1976 Little League yearbook. In the photo there is an extremely famous former SF Giant. Name the player and identify where he is in the pic….

What happened in Georgia yesterday with the broken voting booth and the lines should be a wake up call. This shit needs to get fixed NOW. You can’t yell “Vote vote vote” in November and then you get there and people can’t vote. I know voter suppression has been going on a long time but there has to be some things to do that will alleviate problems like what happened yesterday.
For instance, those were new machines. Did anyone bother testing them to see if they worked? I’m dead serious. And shouldn’t there be ample paper ballots on hand to use as a back up if the machines don’t work? I’m not sure about the logistics of that one.
In my entire life I think the longest I’ve ever waiting to vote was maybe 5 minutes. And usually there has been no line at all. I could easily envision a scenario where broken machines are sent to the poorest areas of our country. This cannot happen.
“Hourslong waits, problems with new voting machines and a lack of available ballots plagued voters in majority minority counties in Georgia on Tuesday — conditions the secretary of state called “unacceptable” and vowed to investigate.”
These are Democrat black counties not some Republican conservative conspiracy…just like the issues for decades in Miami Dade and Chicago…all Dem control….the solution is do like Florida does it. Two weeks early voting and people can go at their own will. It is a controlled environment that election officials can best manage any problems that arrive.
Dont know the player but the kid on the bottom right looks like a serial killer…speaking of serial killing, headed back to the Bay today for dad who had knee replacement yday..
Dunno about serial killers, but with serious cases of speed-up in most everybody’s lives, there’s gotta be a bunch of cereal killers in that lot. Leisurely breakfasts are virtually a lost art in contemporary America. Why does everything hafta get done yesterday…if not sooner? Is economic productivity really the most important thing in our culture?
You are back!!!! Awesome!!!
Been tied up last week…great seeing you online but I wish you could just cook for me…
Front row, center, Atlee “Got Hammered” Hammaker.
Someone mentioned “Laurel Canyon,” the new two-part music documentary the other day. It is streaming on the Epix channel. I posted the channels the other day for DirecTV and Dish. I found I was not subscribed, but after a bit more digging, I found that you can do a free 7 day trial via Amazon Prime (if you are a Prime member). I did that and we watched both parts last night.
Fantastic documentary of the music coming out of Laurel Canyon in the 60 and 70s. Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, CSYN, Love, Joni Mitchell, Doors, etc. is right in my wheelhouse. Very well done, and highly recommended.
The coach in the center looks like a SJ fraternity brother of mine…
it’s is not Atlee Hammaker
Was it common for mothers, or other women, for that matter, to be involved in LL teams in the 70s? They weren’t allowed near the dugout in the old days.
Melissa Lockard, who I’m happy to see has held onto her job at The Athletic, wrote a pretty thorough overview of the draft. If anyone without access to the site wants to see excerpts I’ll post them.
GH–I’m certainly no expert on voting or the process but I don’t think you put the broken voting machines on the *dem control*. Voting for the state is overseen by the state secretary of state who in Georgia is a republican. Does his office send the machines? I don’t know. And don’t even get me started on the long lines you know why those are long and don’t lie and say you don’t
This is always the Republican strategy now: make it harder for Democrats to vote by not having enough polling places in predominately Democratic areas.
The whole nation should just easily be able to vote by mail, like California; but Trump and his toadies in the Senate refuse to make that happen.
Trump himself has said it aloud in recordings: more people voting is bad for Republicans in elections.
This is what the Republicans are now. The Party of Lincoln is now the Party of voter suppresion.
F/G had Giants taking middle IF from Mississippi St (!) with first pick. They took mostly hitters last year with an eye for power bats, so see if more pitching selected this time around.
Yesterday trump’s press hack, what’s-her-name, bragged that trump pulled down 8% of the African American vote in 2016. More black people will vote in 2020. His % could approach zero.
I think her name is McNinny or something.
she has a perpetual tan trump must admire
Oh she is definitely the type he looks for.
there’s a guy who worked on trump’s reality show who tweets about trump’s personal oddities (the diaper stories started there, I think). He said just the other day that Ivanka always breathes through her mouth because the nose jobs trump forced on her squeezed her nostrils tight. True? I don’t know. Maybe it’s just antifa slander.
The video clip I saw of her this morning made her look like she had an upper chrome grill. Pure evil. Fox should really be ashamed of themselves.
Well finally some real baseball stuff today. We have a good chance to up our game with so many low picks. Haven’t got a clue who we are really going after but just like any draft have to see what they are giving us. This one is important for the new regime.
watching retro b-ball yesterday…Kevin McHale from 1987 Celts shot 60% from floor and 83% from free throw line. Averaged 26 points a game and 10 rebounds on a team with Bird and parrish. Textbook post moves for all time though Lakers finally got them that year and won next year title too vs. Detroit. And he played his HS ball at Hibbing HS Minnesota.
Less successful as a coach as I watched McHale coached Rockets go down to Warriors in 2015 playoffs despite heroics of James Harden. What struck me most though is balance of Golden State team (Livingston Iguodala Barnes) and how good Draymond Green was back then… as opposed to what GS has now, including Green.
The NBA was so different in those days. Teams had two (!) post guys, so the key area was full of people. Lots of shots were mid-range, very few 3-point attempts. Very few open drives to the basket. More fast breaks.
The NBA offenses are all spread out now. Drives to the basket and 3-pointers. There’s lots of open space in the key. Very few mid-range shots. Lots of fast breaks are ruined now by just grabbing a player and getting a foul. That shouldn’t be allowed. Anytime that happens it should be an automatic two points and the ball.
Upper row, far right, looks like Will Clark.
Both moms are named Karen, and often want to speak to the manager of the team.
That is a great pic–glad they got couple of Moms in there. I don’t care what sport you are coaching, Team Mom is of utmost importance.
we also didn’t have in-game hydration in the old days
Somebody has to bring the drinks& snacks. The men coaches weren’t going to do that back then. When I was playing Babe Ruth Ball they’re was usually an assigned mom every game to bring the drinks/snacks for that weeks game.Though we also had a Snack Shack behind home plate which was cool 😎 lots of good shit , ice cream, hotdogs, candy, chips, nachos etc..
Agree with Xoot no moms were ever seen around the dugouts except after the game back in the 70’s..
Hell my mom would usually be at the beauty salon with hundreds of those pink rollers in her hair and under the astronaut hair dryer cover..
well, I’m thinking of the early 60s 🙂
Moms seem to be the ones take over organizing all the outside stuff like snacks rides back and forth, outside assignments like keeping score, volunteer commitments of team or organization, post game or practice get togethers yada yada Easier today maybe since lot of it is online and you can text if someone can’t make practice or needs a ride somewhere. Just a lot more involved now than then.
it’s not will clark but that’s a great guess.
i have given in and I’m watching The Last Dance. Two epi’s in, it’s very good.
Thought so too, just very Jordan (as opposed to team in general) oriented. So you get his take on everything, with some others chiming in occasionally.
Man, I thought for sure that was Will Clark. He has the goofy grin and the big chin.
agreed and i think the years add up to for him to be in LL in ’76
this one made me LOL
Barry? Top row, far left.
Rueter, second from bottom left
Never mind, right hander
Specs Tomlinson bottom right?
The kid second in bottom left looks like he just shit in his pants..
I also think it is Barry in the back row next to the hot team mom.
Maybe that’s where Barry developed his interest in Asian ladies? He’s always had a passion for them
Wilco got it first! Tho San Diggity gets honorable mention. That was a hard one I’m impressed. Barry’s brother is in the pic too, bottom row second from right. This pic was brought to you by XOOT. Thank you! Ok who’s up next I’m out of pics unless you guys just wants steady stream of big flavor pics and that wouldn’t be any fun
I’m impressed, too. A friend who makes money in the memorabilia and antique hustle sent me a pic of that page from the San Carlos LL yearbook. He also sent one other 1976 team page. Greg Anderson was on that team.
Yeah, I’d have guessed Barry top left. Day late, buck short.
Me too.
Should of gotten Bonds since we both played ball in San Carlos but it was like an 8 year gap .
Plus I never expected to see him with a smile on his face even back then…
Yeah Barry was 3 years behind me at Serra. Saw him hit the Stuckey building about 3 stories up over El Camino across the street from Central Park field in San Mateo when he was a freshman.
RIP Claudell Washington—a player I always liked.
I went to A’s bat day twice as a kid. Once I got a Joe Rudi bat (that I still have) and the other time it had Claudell Washington’s name on it. Not sure what happened to that one.
Claudell had an odd career. His first full year with the A’s was arguably the best year of his long career.
Fun Fact: Claudell hit the foul ball that Ferris Bueller “caught.”
oh too bad. I liked that guy too. though I think you are right about that first full year with A’s. I think later on he was target of a sign put up by white sox fans in RF that said “Washington slept here.”
he did hit well with Braves and could steal a bag too.
Saw on Wiki, Claudell Washington was traded by the Rangers along with Rusty Torres to the White Sox for Bobby Bonds in ’78. Man, I don’t remember Bonds playing for the White Sox.
Bonds hit a bunch of teams by the end of his career.
Florida Republicans continue to try to overturn the will of the Florida people who voted last year in 60%+ majority to give back to criminals who have served their time and are out, the right to vote. The Florida legislature then, to stymie the will of the electorate, passed a new law to require such former criminals to pay back all their court costs and other fees before they can vote, effectively a poll tax. And, that, despite in most Florida jurisdictions there is no way for these people to even find out from the court system what they “owe”. Up to 1 million voters/former prisoners, are potentially being denied their right to vote. The federal district court in Florida has struck down this law as unconstitutional, and the Republicans are appealing. Pure voter suppression by Republicans…
https://www.npr.org/2020/05/24/861776313/federal-judge-rules-florida-law-restricting-voting-rights-for-felons-unconstitut
Shit, had to look that up.
Bobby Bonds played for the Yankees, Angels, White Sox, Rangers, Indians, Cards, and Cubs after leaving the Giants in ’74. 7 teams in 7 years. Don;t remember the Cards, Rangers OR White Sox.
Claudell Washington. Great fucking name.
It’ll be interesting to see how many non-pitchers the ZMan takes in the draft.
Even more interesting is the post-draft action. With the limited number of rounds, the teams are free to sign players for $20K. I’d expect the Giants to sign up a lot of talent under that situation. If I’m a non-selected player, I think I’ll stay away from the A’s even if they’ve shown interest, if I’ve got another suitors. A’s are bush league cheapskates…
Wow, the post-5th rounders are losing a lot of dough. From Baggs:
“. . . last year the midpoint preset bonus value for a 6th round pick was ~$270K. And for a 10th-rounder it was ~$144K. Lots of kids will lack college opportunities and some might sign. But $20K is a relative pittance to most.”
Yep. Interesting landscape. If I was a kid and had the option to play college ball vs. taking $20k to sign with a ML club, I would look hard at that option.
Agree Snarkk that the A’s are cheaper then a thrift store bought suit!
If your the last team to cave in and finally pay your minor leaguers 4 bills a month under Fisher? Even he got another pressure to realize how low an organization can go.. I would pick any other team to sign with then them and Marlins, maybe Pirates &Royals as well ..
Yeah with the Bum&Smith extra picks which gives them 7, that’s not bad for Z to reload some talent.Im going to say he goes heavier on pitching with this draft maybe 5 pitchers 2 position players..
Wow, Claudell Washington dies the day after we were talking about Fairfield. One of my good friends in high school was neighbors with Claudell in Fairfield, where he lived for a while in the early to mid nineties. They lived in the subdivision near Rancho Solano Golf Course.
So, draft kicks-off in less than 10 minutes. Who do the Giants take at 13?
my money’s on Max Meyer (from Minn) if he’s still available. Longshot: Nick Bitsko.
hey, it’s not on tv until 4pm OUR time. I popped a beer and sat down and got some damn soccer game!
Yeah, my bad. 7 PM ET, 4 PM out here. DOH!
Only issue with college baseball is that everyone I think ( not sure on this) playing this year got another year of eligibility with seasons being cancelled
so definitely fewer openings and scholarships I would think for major programs. If you are a college player now, MLB would likely have more rounds and $$ available next year’s draft, so might be more beneficial wait and play another year.
I kinda like the way crochet looks but there are some big rhp to be had at 13. My guess is they go position at 13 then start picking up pitching. This should be fun
Looks like both of them need to go Paleo…
Yeah I was going to mention
LHP Garret Crochet Winder..
Could be there next Bumgarner play toy.
Kid’s 6’6 220lbs and hits 97 topping out at 99 I like gas!
Think he’s on they’re radar. They’re also Tyler Soderstrom,Nick Bistko ( no relation to sgt Bilko)Austin Kendrick lots of talent sitting there at 13..
I do believe only being 5rds that a lot of talent will slip thru the cracks, that in they’re minds 20K isn’t going to be worth signing and go back to school instead. Will be interesting what advice they get from they’re parents, friends after this draft…
this should be a fun draft and i do believe we could sign a lot of players for the $20 grand after the 5th. i read somewhere our scouts were looking for local talent so we just might see quite a few players with local ties.
Shit, thought the guy’s name was Crochet Winder for a second. Woulda been epic.
I think with a shorter draft selection (5 rounds) it will be college player dominated draft.
High school kids only played a handful of games at most, not enough evaluation time compared to college players…
I think there are a few HS kids high on the charts, and I think a few of them will be drafted.
I have heard the Giants have interest in Cade Cavalli, a RH pitcher from Oklahoma (he is top 20 college prospects).
Yeah, i saw one mock draft where we took Cavalli at 13.
Well round up the wagon Chi.I could be in with a Boomer Sooner!
Changing to a Football HOF announcer..I always felt Keith Jackson was MR COLLEGE ANNOUNCER alltime.
Whoa Nellie..We’ve got a Barn Burner in Norman Oklahoma today with Texas and Oklahoma square off..
Manfred looks like a Mannequin…
No reason to disrespect a mannequin Snarkk!
Manfred is even stiffer then one!
Where’s he coming off saying :I guarantee a baseball season will happen” Oh really?? The owners and players are far apart imo…
Are there any black college baseball players anymore?…
They gave up the sport when they watched Fred Lewis play..
ouch
I watched snippets of today’s House Judiciary Committee hearing. Unbearably powerful. As the Washington Post put it, the silences of Philonise Floyd were as eloguent as his words. Same with so many others, witnesses and Members both. It gave me something resembling hope. Then Rep. Debbie Lesko of Arizona spoke. The condolences she spoke could not have sounded more hollow, phony, and obligatory. Then she launched into a litany reciting tweets about “dismantling” the Minneapolis Police Department. One could see where this was going. My “something resembling hope” burst like a kid’s balloon. I turned it off. As a waste of time, I checked her party affiliation. No mystery there. Sigh.
These kinds of committee hearings are nowadays unfortunately, largely a succession of video ops and campaign speeches for the Congressmen. I don’t know if any kind of meaningful bi-partisan progress on anything can be made anymore at the federal level. Moscow Mitch is sitting on over 400 bills passed out of the House on a wide array of topics; won’t even bring them up for debate…
Moscow Mitch has deep financial control of KY’s counties. As my Lexington lawyer friend says, he knows how to spread the pork. But his rep has taken a dive this year. There are more registered demos than repubs in the state. And McGrath, the leading demo candidate, is taking off like the fighter planes she flew as a Marine. But she doesn’t have a hundred million dollars worth of pork to spread. People from around the country are sending her money.
No question it is theater more than lawmaking.
My 14th (14, count ’em) book: https://amzn.to/2MyzMTQ Number 15 birthing soon.
Congrats Pawlie, that’s quite an accomplishment!!
thanks

hahahahaha it took me a few seconds
Spencer Torkelson to Detroit and Heston Kjerstad to Baltimore for #s 1 and 2 in the MLB draft. So I’m gonna gloat. Being used to seeing names like Rodriguez and Gonzales in prospect lists and lineups, here’s a couple of Scandihoovians. Torkelson could be Swedish or Norwegian. Kjerstad is archetypically a Norskie name. Okay, I’ll admit it. Scandinavian surnames are rarely highlighted in MLB. Too, I’ll cop a plea to 100% Scandinavian ancestry. Skiing, skating and even hockey, descendants of the small “v” vikings are all over the place–but baseball?
Then the Minnesota connexion. U. of M’s Max Meyer goes to the Miami Marlins as choice #3. That’s five “M”s. Beats three of a kind as per St. Paul’s Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing, best known for a product name gone into the same zone as coke, kleenex, frigidaire, hoover & fig newtons, with scotch tape as 3M’s hallmark product.
Back in the nifty Fifties that would have been Mays, Mantle and Monroe–Marilyn, that is.
Patrick Bailey, catcher, NC State.
6-2, 207, switch-hitter.
Crochet off the boards damm you Whitesox’s
Giants on the clock ⏰
And the pick is in,drumroll please🥁🥁
Catcher Patrick Bailey switch hitter NCS
#17 rated player hmmmm Bart&Bailey is the future behind the dish..
Kat, it could go like the early 60’s when the Giants had a couple of first basemen names of Cepeda and McCovey. So if Barnum & Bailey both go platinum, let’s hope that one of them doesn’t go for another SADecki and hoist the Cards into another World Series.
Lol!! Love it. I don;t get the pick dstill.
Phuck me.
Another catcher?
If he ends up any good, he’ll be trade bait.
More outfielders, please …
Who was that commentator who said with the “universal” DH coming, it makes sense to carry two great hitting catchers, who can play some 1B too? I hate the DH, but fate’s fate.
Strange. I can’t get too excited at a baseball draft — half these kids look like the high schooler down the block with a major case of zits and a bad hairdo…
Surprise, surprise with the Bailey selection. So it’s Posey, the Bartman and now another pitch-caller. During the 50’s Ed Bailey was a pretty good man behind the plate and at the plate. Most of his career he semi-starred for the Reds. In his last year or so Bailey brought his tools along to, I think it was still Seals Stadium. Zaidi does like versatility and along with the SS position, better than average catchers are in high demand and short supply. Surely, either Joey or Patrick should have success behind the plate for the Giants.
Look for the catchers to get time at firstbase, too. Zaidi is committed to players being versatile.
A switch-hitting catcher? The next Ted Simmons!
Simmons was good, quite good. I hope Bailey’s better.
If you didn’t know, Simmons was elected to the Hall of Fame last December.
I think Bailey’s worth the pick. Some of the baseball polls had him at #11 overall and #14 overall. It has a lot to say about posey in that his days are #. Having two catchers that can hit is really special since a whole lot of teams don’t even have one. Definitely looking ahead.
Well after I heard they liked Tyler Soderstrom catcher from Turlock, it’s not a shocking pick. This Bailey kid looks like a catcher only, where Bart could move around the infield.Xoot might have nailed it good if the DH comes into effect(fuck DH but it looks like it coming to stay) you have 2 solid catchers for the future..
Who’s that analyst Ansmarger? He’s still trippin on the Giants pick 3 picks later lol 😂
I think they wanted Crochet who went #11 are maybe OF Austin Hendricks #12
I’m just glad they drafted a bat. Don’t care what position he plays. If he turns into anything special it’ll all work out.
Nothing you can do about the first 12 picks!
It’s all about hoping Bailey is better then anyone drafted after him..
I see the long run need and being a switch hitting catcher, bonus points!
Giants obviously thought it was a need and best player available pick…
Kat- I liked Crochet too. But he’s gonna need a lot of work to be a starter in the league. He’s gonna have to learn couple of more pitches to offset the fastball and slider. Unless they use him in the bullpen then he might have some good value for the time being.
Stix- I remember Ed Bailey well I think he stayed with us through 62 and he won us a few games with his bat I always thought he could hit better than Haller.
“Who’s that analyst Ansmarger? He’s still trippin on the Giants pick 3 picks later lol“
That’s his schtick. He tries to stir up stuff because he thinks it creates more interest.
Farhan should be glad I’m not analyzing. Someone here has to explain why this isn’t the dumbest fucking pick of all time!!! Seriously After I said fuck i started wondering if we can get Evans back!
9/12 of the 1st players college picks. We could have had the 1st or 2nd best HS player in the country and picked a college catcher..and wait for it..he grades out as a BELOW average hiter. Scouts project .250-.260 in the bigs with some power. Good defense. AUGH… with a 1st round pick. This guy has a good 1st year he better be traded for a all-star pitcher from the rays in 2022. Fuck
Another catcher, Soderstrom (note that, Stix) from Turlock (Zumie?) was rated higher and was still available. HS kid, though. And maybe Murph remembers his father. Zaidi consults Murph, right? Of course, the team needs a fresh infusion of pitchers in the pipeline, Corry, Hjelle, Webb, notwithstanding. But Bailey is who they nabbed. Let’s hope Zaidi and his new right-hand-man Holmes know what the fuck they’re doing.
Fans questioning and/or angry with Zaidi….I kind of missed that over the last several months.
So you are telling me you like this one? Does Z get an automatic pass on everything for next 3 years?
Well, I’ve quickly decided I actually don’t miss this. 🙂
Brian Sabean in his time here built many winning teams, including the unprecedented 3 in 5 World Series ones that were all different from each other. Before during and after he came under all kinds of heat on this blog and others. there used to be a guy who posted on The Gate and other Giants sites under “Fire Sabean Now!”
The Z show so far 2019 had one really good month + worth of a season and finished 77-85. Soon as they do a mite bit better than that there might be fewer “fans questioning and/or angry with Zaidi.”
It took 14 years for Sabean to win his first World Series championship with the Giants. It ended up being 3 championships, which is amazing and awesomely wonderful. We will be forever grateful.
I think we can be a tad patient with Zaidi.
I got into that discussion with ‘fire Sabean now’ well before we started winning games but at that time I was actually more pissed at Bochy. I truly though he was sleeping on the job. Was I sure wrong.
I’m fine with the pick of Patrick Bailey who grades out higher thenTyler Soderstrom especially defensively. It will be easy to compare the 2 going forward since the A’s took Soderstrom. Both switch hitters so nobody gains they’re as well..
Z probably didn’t want any ties from past Giant management who took pitcher Steve Soderstrom #6 and was a total BUST only briefly pitching in the show in 96 and never again…
“finished 77-85” in his first season, which was 4 games better than the team did the season before.
I just believe that Z thinks catching prospects throughout the organization is still skeptical 🤨 at best. And I believe he has no faith in Aramis Garcia and he showed it with this pick.Garcia won’t last much longer in this organization, it was a slap in the face for him..
At least (so far) they haven’t drafted anyone named Tyler or Austin….
lulz
Our best prospect is a catcher ready for the majors in a year? Nothing against this catcher, but we have lots of other needs. Other teams like this guy too, so it’s not that.
My point is we need lots of things, and using the 13th pick to get “positional depth” is just dumb. The 2nd pick in the draft is turning out as expected so far. In 3 years when a college player is in theory ready to play in the majors I look at the team and literally the ONLY position we likely have covered for 2023 is catcher!
I fully expect Bart to be playing some firstbase in a few years. I’ll be surprised if he isn’t.
Clearly Z is not expecting Posey to have a big resurgence in his career.
Turlock is only famous for 2 things..The bumper sticker that use to say “Where the hell is Turlock?”
And of course “The Kneeler” Colin Kaepernick. So not taking Tyler Soderstrom was probably a blessing in disguise….
Hours later Arnsmager is still being a shit disturber about the Giants pick calling it puzzling 🤔
While the other analyst O’Dowd simply looked at him alittle disturbed and just said it was a player they obviously graded out higher then others which is fine when you’re convinced that’s the player you want..
I beg to differ.
The old restaurant downtown was “Latifs”. Best roast beef or roast turkey with veg and mash, or a roast beef au jus. Used to go there up the valley with my Dad and brother heading for the northlands fishing in the fall. Always had to stop at Latifs. I think it is still there, but haven’t been to it in dogs years. Super delicious pies, too…
I know Kap will remain a controversial figure into the near future; but in the bigger picture of history, he will be remembered in a positive way. He will be remembered for sacrificing the rest of his football career to draw attention to police abuse of minorities. The NFL front office has already apologized publicly to him, although cowardly not mentioning his name.
Expect a WHOLE lot of kneeling when the NFL resumes. NFL fans will each have to decide how they feel about that.
The NFL may chicken out and have the players remain in the locker room during the Anthem, like they used to.
That would be such obvious chickening-out, though.
When Kap took a knee the first time, I was appalled. The mofo loses his starter’s job so he does this? eff him. Then I listened to his explanations. Then I saw other players join in, despite the risks, and I listened to their explanations. And I thought, wasn’t that a stupid knee-jerk initial reaction, xoot, worth some serious examination? Kap started something truly great.
Not bad for a young man from Turlock.
🙂
first, I think Buster will tone this shit down. second, important I think, Bailey’s a switch hitter.
Total of 10 pitchers, 3 HS and 7 college, taken after giants pick in first round and competitive balance round.
Sure we can be patient with Z but turning that into he is immune from criticism, no. All those who are in his position are going to be judged on draft and development, and ultimately their record.
Over the course of his tenure Sabean’s record ranked third best in the entire NL (not 3rd in the division) and we gave it to him all the time, and deservedly so. I’d expect Z’s supporters to have thicker skin and admit his mistakes and shortcomings. Appears to be too much to ask.
You have almost nothing to judge Z on yet, IMO. If a couple of years from now the team is floundering, I’ll join the chorus of criticism.
