Finally….
I got another Trump HOF Donor email and it, in itself, should be put in the HOF for its epic outrageous stupidity, but I’m not going to post it (as pathetic as he and it is).
Because today is Opening Day. We’ve crawled through 4 months and 4 miles of shit to get here –a day that will very likely result in a complete and utter shellacking.
But fuck it, who cares….

Watching some of Twins Braves game last night, starting at 2b for Minn was our old buddy, Triple O Adrianza.
Last season slash line: .272/.349/.416 for .765 OPS. Twins picked him up off season 2017 after Giants and Brewers had waived him.
His old teammate Romo is there too now. Quite a turnaround from when Adrianza hit .186 for Giants 2015.
As late as 2016 Crawford was whacking HRs and rbis with .772 OPS to go with top flight D, before big contract kicked in.
Watched all of Twins and Cubs here in Twin Cities coverage. Adrianza has transmogrified into a good, multi-positional utility man. Cubs won 4-3 on the basis of a two-run blast by Rizzo and a pair of single-shots by Contreras. Twinks dinked in three runs, two of them on passed balls by Contreras…NOT a good defensive catcher. It’s all about the bat.
All the Cubbies runs were off Homer Bailey. Guy can’t be too smart. It is not impossible to legally change your front-name. Homer would be okay for a slugger–but a moundsman? Meanwhile, the Bomba squad couldn’t do diddly vs Jon Lester and a set of bullies. Seems like the hurlers will have the advantage in early season. Josh Donaldson, for example, was in anything but midseason form
Side note…espn has a Fantaics commerical and first featured shirt is a chick wearing a Giants Madbum shirt.. ahhhh wtf???
Go Giants!!!
I would love to see the latest trump HOF piece (those damned things are hilarious), but agree, don’t want to dirty Opening Day.
Man, I used to live for opening day. It has always been my favorite day by far…like xmas and birthday rolled into one. Obviously feels different this year, but I am just happy to watch baseball, again. Hope our boys surprise us and pin a L on the bumbinos.
Go Giants! BEAT LA!
Yup, I always considered Opening Day as my new year, but this just feels like extended spring training to me. Still, I do hope to watch at least a couple of innings tonight. Go Giants.
Yep, just does not have the feel of an opening day. I would typically be coordinating with the folks with whom I was going to the game, getting down there early, tailgating, hitting a few bars before the game, etc. And of course, heading into the yard early to catch BP and the OD festivities. Damn, I miss all of that…truly was my favorite day of the year.
Giants announce top 30 yet?
I was going to ask the same.
Johnny! Johnny! Johnny!
Mr Shimmy will conquer Mayberry Opie
As the Giants new 18 man pitching staff stifles the Dogpile!
I am STOKED for Tonight!
Let’s get ready to RUMBLE!!!
One of teams playing on mlbtv last night, might have been Braves, is going with 16 pitchers. yeow
btw Marlins uni is quite something, at least one they wore last night. shiny teal blue, with black M and marlin sneaking into top left of the M.
humm baby!
Let’s Do It Again…
You’re Gonna Like These Kids…(year Clark and Thompson broke into the bigs)…
Duffy didn’t make the Yanks’ opening day 30, but remains with the organization, I think.
Hope always runs high on opening day, at least for me it does. I think we are pretty much overmatched with the doggers but you never know. As long as we don’t give in or up and fight till the end we got a shot. This is the perfect scenario to get a solid team attitude. It starts at the top. Go Giants.
Excited for opening day..I’m puzzled by lack of info on the roster. A google search of SF Giants 2020 opening day roster brings up a story about joe mcCarthy (WHO?), roster predictions from the Merc, but no finalized roster piece. WTF. Did Bart make it???
This is what pops at their “active roster.” Only 23 players listed.
https://www.mlb.com/giants/roster

Bart in six days? I’m totally on with that.
It’s ON!!!!! Okay, so it’s at the LAtrine and vs. Opie, but with only two L.H. batters in the lineup, Crawdaddy & Yaz, Kershaw’s edge is not HUGE. Last season indicated he has lost a tiddle of his edge. I know its totally unorthodox, but my preference would have been NOT to start Cueto vs. the LaBumbos. Rather, Kapler should have started with an “Opener” and then a parade of bullies…anything to keep those Bums off their game.
The one they could use this tactic against is their up and coming #1, Buehler, Ferris P. Looking forward to what high OBP guys like Solano can do against the Bumbos. Men on base has a magical means of giving pitchers a nasty case of the yips. If one of the scrubinis is willing to take one for the team, with the flesh part of his forearm dangling out a bit…
This contest may be as uneven as the roads in Hell, but hey–the season is ON and its GIANTS BASEBALL. This one is where it would be nice to see a reincarnation of Sal the Barber Maglie on the mound for S.F. Close shaves would give that high-priced help something to think about. And as Leo the Lip Durocher famously said: “Nice guys finish last.”
How’s this for a late start?
https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/maglisa01.shtml
Hmmm Chi has 23?players,Unca has 33 players?
Obviously 🙄 they need to go up 7 with Chi’s and down 3 with Unca
And they still have to add and subtract to the 40 man active roster right?
Looking at Unca’s list I would guess a couple relievers and maybe a catcher?
It’s weird with the cast hers cause none of them are on the 40 right now I believe, so their is a lot more creative moves that need to be done before game time..
Yeah, I dunno where Charlie/Unca got his list. Mine is from the Giants site (active roster). Maybe they are still debating the other seven to round-out the 30?
Yeah I counted them after I posted. Odd men out I’d think would be Triggs, Drrrty Sanchez, and Brantly. 3 catchers for 60 games?
you get 3 extra which is what the “taxi squad” refers to. one of them has to be a C.
There are no catchers on the Chi list. !
Charlie – go look again. There are two: Brantly and Heineman.
https://www.mlb.com/giants/roster
16 pitchers so wonder if they keep them all for the 4 in LA and put 2 position guys (plus 1 of Cs) on taxi squad or not. gotta wonder just how ready any of the SPs are and how long Kapler would let them go.
btw someone who won’t be going to LA nor will be in the dugout for home games is Nakken. Her job as assistant to Antoan Richardson is doing pregame work with OFs, and baserunning. Only 8 out of the 13 (!) coaches Kapler has on staff are allowed in dugout per ML rules.
So that brief cameo of her coaching 1b might be last time we see her except for maybe something with AmyG.
Yep. Read that…But Giants again being a first. Nakken as first woman coach on ML team, and Renal Brooks-Moon as first woman public address announcer for a ML club.
Looks like she can travel like all 13 coaches and do pregame work, just not be in dugout.
Yep. Those are the two who are listed on the link I shared.
Thanks, Mac. And then there were 30!
Jimenez makes the cut. He is young and raw, but has some nasty stuff in the mid-90s. Currently a two-pitch pony, but as Kruk said, once he adds a change and possibly other pitches, he should be even more effective.
thx Mac. yeah 16 pitchers. McCarthy in Sanchez out
Interesting no Duggar,no Sanchez ( I believe he tweaked his back)no Rodriguez, and the cool baseball name Chadwick Tromp who looked good slugging the ball.
Kept McCarthy for OF/1B for now..
Glad they kept Dany Jimenez are he would have had to go back to his other team as part as a rule5 guy he has to stay on the roster all year..
Man, this Giants roster reminds me a lot of those 2012 or 2013 Houston Astro teams that lost 100 plus games. Who will be our Jose Altuve and JD Martinez?
I’m going Dubon and Bart…
I didn’t think I was going to like the piped in crowd noise but I have to admit it works. It’s like white noise. In fact at times it could be a little louder when the moment presents itself.
Golf needs to figure out a way to do the same thing when the Majors roll around.
Yeah maybe golf needs to pump in some Happy Gilmore soundtracks…
College football will be trickier. They will need to know when to play the fight songs at the appropriate moments. Maybe they can leave out USC’s, which might be the most annoying in all of sports.
bingo. relentlessly obnoxious.
Tromp would be on taxi squad I imagine; one C is mandatory iirc. Brantly switch hits so I guess that’s the advantage.
Game I was watching was Cubs twins. Cubs guys were doing the game from Wrigley, and they hit bunch of HRs and ambient noise got pretty loud. sounded OK.
at one point of them said he was on Giants when Baker made his mgr. debut in 93–turned out to be Jim Deshaies.
Noticed there were bunch of high fives in Cubs dugout after bomb from Rizzo–isn’t that supposed to be no no?
Yeah, a lot of players are breaking the Covid rules. There’s a lot of clumping together in dugouts, too. Doesn’t seem to be any enforcing going on by MLB.
As a nation, we continue to be so half-a##ed about the virus.
In Florida, 600 people gathered for a block-party. I just don’t get it.
California used to the butt of jokes as loony tunes. Not even close now. Florida is straight up ground zero for nutz…
Willied,
I believe Brantly only bats LH
Heineman is the switch hitting catcher
But I agree Tromp needs to stick around for emergency situation ( thus the tax squad)
ah thx.
The roster is made up of 10% Tylers…
When I was unavoidably detained at Elkton, there was a guy in my poetry class who went by the cognomen of “Tippy.” Then there was this yoot from Iowa–a Tyler. In one of the inevitable waiting-lines, they were standing cheek a jowl and I remarked “Tippicanoe and Tyler Too.”
William Henry Harrison, victor in the Battle of Tippicanoe over the Shawnees, used that slogan and won the presidency in 1840 or thereabouts. Within a few days of his Inaugural Address the case of pneumonia he caught on that fatal occasion resulted in his going totally horizontal. It was said that the damning he received from Tecumseh’s brother, a man known as the Shawnee Prophet, foretold his demise. He was succeeded in office by his running-mate, John Tyler.
Him being into poetry and all, I half hoped Tippy would catch the historical allusion. No such luck. And, of course, Tyler being an Iowan, hadn’t a clue.
Great stuff, Stix.
I’m sure you know his grandson, Benjamin was Prez #23…
Loo: Bennie and I were good buds back in the day, but it all went south when he gave up on those bennies and took up with Old Grandad.
Old school lunatic fringe.
Love it, Dirt!
It just doesn’t feel like opening day to me.
I don’t know WTF it feels like…
Agree, Loo. Clown and I were exchanging those sentiments earlier.
When the Giants bring Bart up later this season it’ll add more excitement. That could happen next weekend.
Yeah, that 5 days of heavy instruction in Sac will be a huge improvement in his development…
Yeah, we all know the real reason is the service time loophole.
That loophole will surely be eliminated in the next CBA contract.
Correct me if I’m wrong but the Giants 40 man roster shows that they have 46 players on it right now, with guys like Siri,Adon, Selman etc.Dont they have to remove 6 players from that, to add the new guys making the team?
I think there is a special caveat this year not requiring removal….
Did anyone here previously hear or know about these Giants catchers? I never heard of these dudes before. What happened to Garcia?…
Garcia had hip surgery in the off-season.
Criminy – he and Buster ought to share a walker…
Or their good hips…
They barely beat out the catcher pictured below:
Buddy and I did something similar at a little league field
Of course not with this monstrous strike zone…
Games would go a lot faster if that was the official K zone.
Nats’ Soto tested positive for Covid.
Fox Sports says that on their Saturday games-of-the-week they’re going to use computer-generated fans to fill the seats.
Cheesy.
Playoffs expanded to 16 teams…
Money grab…
So when Belt and Longoria come back I take it Ruff and McCarthy are on the chopping block first unless they make a statement or one of the plethora of relievers but eventually have to trim down to 26 anyway…
Does this mean Sanchez Duggar and Tromp are the taxi squad??
Kershaw to the IR with back stiffness. They’ll being in a single A guy to shut us down.
Those guys, the ones we have never seen, are the ones who typically DO shut us down.
Well, it’s 22 year old Dustin May. . . . 1-1 vs Gigantes last year.
Just saw that another childhood favorite passed away last week…
yeah cool player, born in Cuba too.
Guess my comment about Kershaw slipping a tad last season happened to be unaccountably prescient. May it be that Opie not being available, that Kapler might adjust his lineup?
You would think…especially if they know who is taking his spot, and they do (Unca just posted it).
I’d think so with May being a rightie.
I didn’t realise baseball has changed the DL to the IL. I wonder if the same time frames apply.
They have a 7 and 10 day IR instead of the 15 day DL.
Thanks.
Fun times. A couple miles away . . . A Walnut Creek skilled nursing facility is dealing with a COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak that as of Tuesday night has left 12 residents dead and a total of 92 residents and 38 staff testing positive.
Damn. That is just horrible.
my mother was in their Sunnyvale facility until May, They did a good job shutting the CV19 out there. They made a special exception to let me in for 1/2 an hour the day before she died. They charge top dollar for top care. I’m surprised they effed up in WC. Glad they didn’t in Sunnyvale. This thing is here to stay, apparently.
Getting tough for the front-line in the healthcare field. Just learned this morning that a second-cousin, who’s a professor of nursing, is in the critical-care unit in the same health-care facility where the father of her younger daughter is a physician. She could have contracted Covid from him or possibly she was filling-in additional to her university position as she also happens to be a nurse-practitioner.
Orinda fucked up pretty hard as well. You’d think these high-end places would be better than this.
I tell you, it seems to be mutating, or spreading easier/faster now than before.
Or we are being really stupid.
the smartest most well-trained people with the best protection and they’re getting it. Damn. They are heroes though.
Chuck, in my experience the high-end places are worth the money. I looked into it. But even the high-end places are vulnerable to this thing.
Gail’s aunt and uncle are in a high-end facility in SoCal. It is crazy the cost per month.
The bums are carrying 16 or 17 pitchers, I think. This opening series could be wild.
Dustin May ranked Dodgers 2nd top prospect by fangraphs only below Gavin Lux.
What about those other top prospects — Rainin April and Windin March ? …
Dude has some serious hair.

I wonder if he still has number 85.
Stanton crushed that wow.
Could the worst of all possible outcomes become the terminus of this hatched-up season…an alleged World Series between the Yankmees and the LaBumbos? If so, it will only confirm that in contemporary America, money rules and that big, dirty money usually calls the shots. Bob Dylan put it this way: “Money doesn’t talk, it swears.”
in a superficial way, it’ll be like trump v Biden. No choice, really, but damn, it’ll give you the tombstone blues
Well the 2 of ’em are like 1 for their last 50 combined…
well, the one is sort of important I guess
This should be fun. No reason not to play loose.
Angel Hernandez is homeplate ump in the Nats/Yanks game. He’s terrible. Called Kendrick out on strikes on a pitch pretty far outside.
Did I hear ESPN announcer right — Kershaw scratched?
yeah, we’re all hanging on the edges of our seats to see if the fill-in cut his hair recently
Announcer just said May is first Dodger rookie to start Opening Day since….Fernando in 1981. Um they did win it all that year too in the shortened season.
Is he still a rook? He pitched in 14 games last year.
BR says yes…
Ah, I see Unca had Kershaw on IL earlier.
Dr. Fauci’s ceremonial first pitch was terrible.
As close to the plate as 50 cent.

that’s sort of the way I threw the other day. ulnar nerve pinch. age-related issue. ulnar here, sciatic there
I’ve already seen a couple jokes that he threw a flat curve.
I wish
Another good one:
At least six feet from home plate.
Always on message, that Dr. Fauci.
Drumpf says he’s going to throw out a first pitch in NY at an August Yankee game.
If he gets past the booing…
No fans to boo, which is exactly why he’s doing it. As if I needed another reason to hate the Yankees.
1. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
2. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
3. Pablo Sandoval (S) 1B
4. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
5. Hunter Pence (R) DH
6. Joe McCarthy (L) RF
7. Mauricio Dubon (R) 2B
8. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
9. Tyler Heineman (S) C
go yaz and wilmer
Hell yeah!
Jesus game 1 and they’re already fucking with my boy Davis!
McCarthy seriously?
Get used to a lot of platooning from Kapler.
Dustin May comes in a distance 2nd to that Oakland A’s pitcher Jordan Weems, who’s hair is just a tad shorter then Cousin ITT..
My favorite alltime Addams family character with his hair down to his feet, the derby hat 🎩,cool sunglasses 🕶, and his impossible dribbling voice, Cousin ITT was the coolest imo..
Completely agree!
Cousin ITT rocked! And Morticia…grrrr…
she was pretty hot. Hilarious program
Cousin Itt. My high school nickname.
OK, I give up.
Who the F is Joe McCarthy?…
he played 1B the other night, I think
I think the Giants feel with Belt out McCarthy could get alittle platoon work at 1st and obviously now the OF. He’s had plenty of up& downs but has one thing Z always loves, he has a good eye taking pitches( gee Belt redux) and has a good OBP and can steal a bag. Just hoping they catch alittle lighting in a bottle I guess. Formerly a 5th rd pick of Tampa Bay.
ARod is a polished corporate shill still making millions, despite his steroid use. The black-balling of Barry is a helluva story waiting to be told.
Kapler will be heavy on the righty/lefty platooning. This lineup, though, has more power than the other lineup.
so we have a rain delay in the big east coast game. how will espn split the screen between rain in DC and a game in LA?
also, who will throw out the first pitch in LA? Dr Oz?
Dr. Phil.
kat my 1st thought as well. Who the hell is mccarthy???
Thanks to all who posted the roster!
Xoot barry is blackballed because he never admitted it. All the players who have admitted it are forgiven. Pete Rose anyone? Another decade from now he will, and it will be too late.
Admitted what? He was never caught.
Absolutely. ARod was caught. That exonerates him? bs
One of the games will probably be on ESPN 2 for a while.
My Kershaw voodoo doll worked like a charm once again….
Told y’all they’d play In A Gadda Da Vida!!
Kat, Jaylin I think would have started if Kershaw made the start..
Kapler told beat guys Ruf, Slater and Solano would’ve started.
that’s Mookie taking a knee along with some of the Giants, isn’t it? And man is that LA air clear.
Great fuckin’ job ESPN, missing the first AB.
And didn’t even show a replay of it.
And I thought I missed it…
This Doghair starter looks like a cross between Carrot Top and Eric Stoltz from Mask.
Hah, I thought it was Carrot Top just throwing out the 1st pitch.
Let’s go Johnny Shimmy!
Pence has his chopping wood swing down pat..
Pence, infield dribbler. We saw a lot of those in ‘18.
Shitty first strike call on Pence. Whole new Pence batting stance…lets see if it makes any difference….
Fuck, I hate listening to/watching a game on ESPN. They suck…
Nice knock from Dickerson. If they throw the ball on outer half away from D shift, way to take advantage
