On MLBTR is story about Angels clubhouse guy who is suing them for firing him, etc. It’s long piece with 300 comments. But in main body of column is link to article by Ben Lindbergh for Ringer about use of substances on ball by pitchers. Bauer shows up a lot in this article, specifically over spikes in his spin rate as they relate to doctored substances. He even talks about researching different combos while at Driveline.
Fantastic read, with general estimate being 70% of ML pitchers are doctoring ball, and that adding to spin rate is big assist to Ks and overall effectiveness…including to Mr. Bauer.
At least they are not using flubber.

whoa James Hardy dead of heart attack at 64. Played prominent role in USF b-ball from 1975 on with Cartwright Winford Boynes et al, brief NBA career with NO and Utah Jazz. Those USF teams were great.
3 years USF went 74-16, including 29-2 1976-77. Also featured SF’s own Marlon Redmond of Balboa HS who spent few seasons as backup shooting G in NBA, and like Mr. Cartwright and Mr. Boynes, is still alive.
Damm I saw him play a couple times at USF’s tiny gym with Cartwright during the year they were undefeated late and looked like they were going to win it all! Great teams with plenty of talent! Real bummer we were the same age! Feels strange sitting in the stands back then at 19 and your watching 19 year old kids play and they were spectacular to see live..RIP James

Rivers arm strength (or lack there of) was really apparent on that final drive
