Trying To Hold on To First Place
I’d say I’m surprised about the Cubs being in first place but that wouldn’t even come close to capturing my surprise at the Giants being in first place. Still. Chicago is beatable we should knock these chum…nevermind, let’s just play hard and hope for the best.
Thought this was a cool pic. Has kind of a “Riverfront/3 Rivers” feel to it. Anyone got a tighter guess than that?

Cool photo and I haven’t a clue on where.
I haven’t really followed the cubbies, so no clue as to how good or bad they are/should be. I know they have won 9 of their last 10, and just swept the friars in a three game series.
Just win the series. After this series we play some teams we definitely should beat: Texas and Washington (on the road), Arizona and Philly at home, and Angels for another two in their yard. Then we play the A’s at home (my daughter and I are going to the game on the 26th). We wrap-up June with two against the bums in the latrine.
I guess Three Rivers – looks like about a half dozen Pirate tees in the crowd.
It wasn’t all that easy for fans to get official or even replica uniform jerseys back then…
I think you’re right, Loo. The Pirates were selling those yellow tees to match their jerseys back in the 70s.
I get the Athletic, enjoy Giants and all other spectrum of coverage (including Baffert) and read through article on GD. Giants coverage is dominated by Baggs, plus every other week Melissa Lockard (sp) has a full column on all minors clubs.
Then there is Grant Brisbee, whom I never liked at McCoveyChronicles, and still don’t. He did the GD column without saying much about him, basic take being he’s only just now starting to show what Giants thought he might be, but it’s only 70 some odd ABs so nothing definitive yet. Said also he represents what has worked for them so far (SPs, BC), genius of Z and ability to get more out of under radar players, yada yada. Fair enough.
Most interesting thing though was in comments that followed–must have been half a dozen different nicknames proposed, though none approaching level of “Grave Duggar.”
And nothing will…
Think Cubs series definitely matters–this isn’t bottom feeder team like Pirates or Reds or Marlins in NL. Like Giants they are exceeding expectations and on top of their Division. As Chi said they just swept the Padres mostly in low scoring games, no small accomplishment. How the Giants fare when they are playing non chump teams from other divisions across board will go long ways to determine final standings.
I see some red in the crowd too. Maybe Veteran’s Stadium? I wonder if that’s Willie Mac’s comeback player of the year season, 1977. The uni looks right for that time.
Duff Man returns, kinda. He’s hurt again, shocker
Looking at boxscores of Cubs-Pads series, SD only scored 6 runs total in 3 games. Hit totals 5 7 and 6 (in about 100 ABs) walk totals of 1 1 and 4. Pads tried to win last game with pen guys and no Tatis, lost 6-1 after Lamet left with 4 good innings.
And that is a cool shot, Flav. Love that corkscrew finish Stretch always had to his swing. Iconic as hell.
57 left with teams currently over 500, fifty games with the sub-500s.
At least 2-3 good starts each time through the rotation over those 107 games will keep them in contention no matter the competition. Desclafani and Webb throwing well against the Cubs would be reassuring. It wouldn’t hurt to get Ruf and Belt back soon, assuming they get back on track quickly.
how bout a Ramos shot in the arm mid July?
Isn’t that going to be La Stella’s month?!? If Dickerson and Tauchman don’t have improved numbers by then . . . .
i’ve never been a La Stella guy. Low ceiling, plus, girls name
Z obviously high on LaStella with 3 yr deal. LH 2b option, better than what he showed. Ramos to OF would more likely mean Ruf is toast or Dickerson/Suckman.
Surely McCovey just injured his quad.
Have to wait for the MRI…
Man, I loved watching that swing.
Could be the Vet. All those cookie-cutter toilet bowl circular stadiums looked the same.
I don’t know where WillieMac is but my guess is he just hit a mile high pop up and he’s probably saying to himself, “if I was just an inch lower.”
Looks like it’s Three Rivers Stadium:
https://www.gettyimages.co.jp/detail/%E3%83%8B%E3%83%A5%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B9%E5%86%99%E7%9C%9F/willie-mccovey-of-the-san-francisco-giants-bats-during-a-game-%E3%83%8B%E3%83%A5%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B9%E5%86%99%E7%9C%9F/917175000
Good pull, Mac. Three Rivers it is.
So how many been to all three of those craptastic stadiums? The Vet, Three Rivers and Riverfront???? My hand is up…
I’m going with Cincinnati’s stadium 3 rivers?
Big Mac! He was so imitating that pitchers were shaking are shittin in their pants on the mound in fear when he was on the on-deck circle.
I got the pleasure as a kid to see all the greats play at the Stick and it’s still brings chills thinking about how great they were and I wanted to emulate several players moves, batting, pitching, breaking in a new glove with oil a ball wrapped tightly with rubber bands constantly working it to get the right pocket and feel..Oh the good old days …
Three Rivers was Pittsburgh’s old toilet bowl. Riverfront was Cincy’s.
June 5… The Giants will be the first team in baseball to wear pride colors SF cap and SF on their right sleeve breaking new barriers in baseball, pretty cool 😎 leading the way by this organization..
WTF is everybody so goddamn proud of?
Right now just being in 1st place works for me that no one expected..
Kat – not only in first place, but rocking the best record in MLB…
Loo, it’s MLB showing support for a large group of people who have been abused and killed for thousands of years for being who they are, and who can now openly take pride in being who they are. This is another amazing thing that has happened during our lifetimes.
I’m not saying sports should take on every social issue, but sports do have a unique place of high visibility in our culture.
There’s still countries where it’s a crime, with severe punishments.
I’d like to see the pride logo affixed to the camouflage hats and uniforms.
Yeah, how many military pride days are in MLB? Seems like a pretty good amount, and that’s fine.
Memorial Day and Veterans Day would suffice for pro sports.. Maybe they could play in hard hats for Labor Day.
MLB gets paid $millions by the DOD for all these military salutes.
NFL, too.
The Pads aren’t rockin’ cammo uniforms regularly at home all the time for nothing…
Fair enough, Zum, but I doubt the Giants, MLB, or any sport gives a fuck about anything more than how much merchandise this sells…
We should have the caduceus affixed to our hats.
Yaz and Webb on the IL with thumb sprain and shoulder strain.
Jeeebus. Injuries ‘R’ Us.
Tropeano and Vosler back up in revolving door move.
Frisbee time?
“The Giants have promoted both Matt Frisbee and Sammy Long from Double-A Richmond to Triple-A Sacramento and, in doing so, created a couple potential call-ups should they have a need in the rotation or for a long arm out of the bullpen.
They also lost another of those options officially on Thursday.
Righty Shun Yamaguchi, whom the Giants brought in during spring training, was released from Triple-A and will head back to Japan, he announced on Instagram. In his post, he thanked both the Giants and Blue Jays, with whom he spent the 2020 season.”
Webb was supposed to start tomorrow, Gausman Saturday.
?
Club the Cubs…
Swinging Dick back in the LU…
1. LaMonte Wade Jr (L) 1B
2. Buster Posey (R) C
3. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
4. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
7. Steven Duggar (L) CF
8. Mike Tauchman (L) RF
9. Anthony DeSclafani (R) P
Tauchman really needs to show something on offense in this series.
Dickerson, too.
F. Lee Bailey died…

Expected Yaz to go on the IL a sprain thumb is impossible to heal in a day are 2.Webb though surprised some, he might be more hurt then he’s letting on.This will shake up the rotation some,Tropeano?Kazmir? wish to see this hot shot Frisbee who has a unheard of 32 K’s to 1 walk ratio. But since he just moved up from AA to AAA unlikely that will happen yet..
29 years ago today Jordan hit 6 3s on way to 35 in first half of “the shrug” game as Bulls opened NBA Finals 92 whomping Blazers, whom they’d dispatch in 6..
Flea Bag had quite the checkered career. He and Melvin Belli were SAn Francisco staples for decades.
“Webb “felt some soreness in his shoulder” in a recent bullpen session and the Giants will shut him down for a few weeks, Gabe Kapler said of a pitcher whose solid Saturday start against the Dodgers was his first in 12 days.
Kapler said Webb felt fine after his 62-pitch outing in Los Angeles, but the bullpen session indicated he was not over the shoulder strain.
“We’re going to be a bit more cautious and for good reason,” Kapler said. “Obviously the fact that he had this this right shoulder soreness again makes us take more pause than last time.””
Giants may breach the season record for different players on the 25 man.
Where is Belt, BTW?
What’s wrong with him this time?…
https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/giants-brandon-belt-taking-batting-practice/
Everybody’s got an oblique.
From the look of McCovey in the photo lede, he should have had one that lasted 20 years…
Human beings didn’t have obliques back then…
I’ll bet Stretch rarely, if ever, lifted weights.
Knees were not good, but I don’t remember him taking a lot of muscle pulls…
He has Belt syndrome,a constant condition of staying healthy.
POTD, for Snarkk.
Cubs have been hot.
Gyros are hurt.
I’d gladly take a split of these 4, and scoot to the next series…
Gimme Shelter blasting for Desclafani.
Duggar givin some shelter
Would make much more sense for “Sonny” Barager…
Fair enough. But as I’ve said before, that itself would make more sense if Baragar pitched for Oakland.
9 tools
Dick looked like an easy out there.
Another piece of shit shutdown is gonna happen to the Giants again tonight.
Duggar struck out on three pitches that weren’t strikes.
Surprising AB.
GD has a good eye and sometimes isn’t aggressive enough…
Can Scaffold swing the bat at all?
Wow. That was fugly. Turned on the game just in time to see DeScaffolding fold up, and Wade flail.
At least they added a good amount to Davies’ pitch count.
Paly checks in. nobody robbing that one.
Fuck you, Joc.
He has truly mastered the crap-eating grin.
Would it be smart for disco to pitch around joc? Fuck. He may see him again tonight.
Dame’s done. Nuggets take Blazers out 126-115 behind 36 for Jokic.
Brooklyn vs the Nuggets would be interesting in the Finals. Two teams getting there for the first time.
There is no “buzz” here about the Nets.
I’m close enough to hear it if there was…
Nets and Milwaukee should be fun.
The New Yorker magazine’s writers are buzzing. They seem to prefer the Knicks, rip, but they like the Nets, too.
Didn’t Belt have delayed start to ST, and regular season? Wasn’t he sick from flu or covid, while recovering from heel issue?
Yes
I’d like to see the Grave Duggar use that oppo swing a little more often too…
Hey now!!!
Disco.
Disco know how to go oppo!
Ripped that ball lol.,
No error on Baez? I guess when hometown guy is under Mendoza line, he’ll get benefit of doubt.
Yep, obvious error for sure by the scorekeeper to help raise Sockless up to .198 as he attempts to sniff the Mendoza line again..
Why the world Ross Bitch about a pitch with the ump with 2 outs and his pitcher hitting? Looks like an idiot on that one..
Those Evergood sausages with pineapple are good.
Dicked off.
Dick suck
If it was 1970, he’d be fined for that dumbness…
Saw the same thing in one of the Rays-Yanks game, Rays player picked off 1st by C with runner on 2nd. And I think the batter walked.
Davies out. That could be good.
Not if you’re the Kinks…
POTD
loved those guys, from first hits.
Talk about getting your dick knocked in the dirt.
Austin likely to bat for the Grave Duggar….
Yeaaaaaaaaaaah Craw!
Craw.
That’s why you should always look to rake on 3-0…
Well Crawford made up for Dickless stupidity!
Bombs away on a 3-0 count! Love that aggressive approach!
Starting A/S shortstop for Crawford anyone?
Over Tatis Jr.? unless he’s hurt, don’t think so, no matter how well deserved.
Wow. Didnt that turn around on a dime. Very nice.
Mets CF Mason Williams almost made Tauch-like catch, but couldn’t hang on and Tatis got 2-run HR.
Paly grabs pine.
Nice start by Descafolding.( nice!) held up after Joc homer… Go Giants!
The umpiring is comical yet again. Glad the Giants are the ones laughing right now.
Disco álbum spinning KKK that inning..
Thank you, ump, that inning.
wow. Cubs fans will blow up Brothers, and Ross if Giants add on here.
2nd mound visit Kuiper he has to pull Brothers, are is it Weathers like you mentioned before, have some more wine 🍷
Meanwhile, Suns up 21 at half. Booker has 33, entire Lakers team 41.
Another KY one and done star. Sink the Lakers, man.
I dozed off for a few minutes.
Did something happen to Wilmet?
I see Dubon has replaced him at 3rd…
He was running a little gimpy on the basepaths.
Thanks, Zum…
We must lead the league in MRIs.
Ump is our friend right now.
