The Best Part of the Summer Begins…..
The second half of the season is about to kick off and thankfully Daniel has done all the work for me with this comprehensive breakdown of the series vs the Cardinals.
https://cardinal70.substack.com/p/giant-consequences
As I am still on vacation this is greatly appreciated. @c70
I don’t put any stock into the 2 games we just played them. I like our pitching line up (Gausman, Disco and Cueto) and they seem pretty lost in that category with Waino and then the dreaded “undecideds” after that….
Morikawa fires a 64 today to get the Open off to a rocking start! And down at the Old Del Mar…take it away Bing….
Kim has looked good as of late, though it seems DeSclafani has as well. He is an old friend from his Reds days, of course.
All that doesn’t matter if you can’t score and that’s usually the Cardinals’ problem.
Thanks for your assistance!
Forecast is improving. Chance of rain down to 43% and it appears it will clear later, with chances of mixed showers. Not sure Daniel has a more accurate forecast.
Hope like hell they get the games in, as I hate the thought of another bullshit 7-inning DHer.
Giants have 10 left against both bums and friars.
Bums – six home and four in the latrine.
Friars – seven home and three in Dago.
Every game and series is going to be important, but those head-to-head match-ups in division are key.
Go Giants!
The Olympics will be happening, I guess.
“A poll conducted in mid-May revealed that 83% of Japanese citizens did not want the Olympics to go forward in their country. According to the World Health Organization, only 8% of the Japanese population had been fully vaccinated as of the end of June (some sources now put that number at about 17%). As early as May, the Tokyo Medical Practitioners Association, representing the views of about 6,000 Japanese doctors, lobbied unsuccessfully for the Games to be cancelled. All of these pleas have gone ignored; according to the edict of the International Olympic Committee, the show simply must go on.”
The athletes, coaches, and media are not required to be vaccinated.
from my trusted weather guy:
SFG @ STL – Just enough rain early where a late start is possible, but it’s drying out pretty quickly, so no major issues here.
Nice thread from Daniel, including Flav’s response. Giants did drop 2 of 3 at home last time, and we get our 2 worst enemies back in lineup. should be fun, everyone rested up after 4 days off.
2 trades that have been floated out there..
Giants trade for Joey Gallo to get a power bat in the middle of the order for the stretch run, they trade OF Hunter Bishop, Pitcher Sean Hilgee (Sp) and catcher Ricky Genovês
Trade 2..The Giants trade for LHP Taylor Rodgers ( Tyler’s twin brother) to help solidify the BP
for OF prospect Canário and another prospect I forgot his name..
Thoughts?
I think their priority will be a SP. With Wood being so-so, and Cueto being inconsistent, and the 5th spot being a revolving door, it would strengthen the pen adding another SP.
There was also talk about reacquring Tyler Anderson as a backend starter that shouldn’t cost much to get for added depth. I would be all over getting Taylor Rodgers for this bullpen, he’s a quality pitcher and to have him in the same pen with his brother would be cool as they feed off of each other for countine success..
Gallo only 27 would sure add tremendous power in the middle of the LU and has a cannon for an arm.Move Yaz to center and rotate whatever matchups in LF..
The other players in the Rodgers deal would be Gregory Santos and the 13th prospect..
Thanks to Daniel for his synopsis. Hoping for a different result in Saint Looie, and a series win to kick-off the second half.
We’ve fattened up well on the patsies. We have a much tougher schedule down the stretch to the finish line.
The Giants are not going to trade a potential OF prospect again. Even if they have Gallo under control for 2022.
At least I hope not. We are gonna trade for pitching.
Go Collin!! Gotta love those Cal guys.
Having one Rogers in the bullpen is probably more than most of us can handle. 😀
No clue what Giants will do.
But, ZMan will do something that makes sense.
They drafted pitchers, no OFers in the top rounds, so I don’t see them trading any top tier OF prospects in the system …
disappointing afternoon with no wind. Watching these guys play a defenseless course is boring.
Yeah I was hoping for Caddy Shack conditions wind, rain, and some lighting bolts!
Good enough for the priest who was having the round of his life till he dropped dead..
“Rat-fuck!!!” He didn’t die though. He got hammered in the bar and disavowed the Lord.
Yeah I doubt that Z would trade any outfield prospects but will go for reinforcements for the pen are a back end starter.I’m hoping Webb finds his mojo, his last 3 inning gig has me excited again that he can be dependable..
2 Ls to Cards Giants pen gave up multiple runs in late innings, culprits being Brebbia and Sherfy that negated comeback efforts. They also kept walking guys ahead of gruesome twosome–don’t let others beat you.
I’d love to get Bryant and maybe Hendricks along with him away from Cubs. This would be a guy you don’t have to platoon in OF, and makes guys like Dickerson and Slater irrelevant. Not so worried about over 30 guys anymore either given what’s gone on for SF this season.
And Tauchman and possibly Duggar. There. I said it.
Oooh the Wrath of Flavor will come upon you Chuck, like it did to me if you rip the GraveDuggar…
Hope is Ramos takes over CF soon enough. Til then, one or both of them have to play CF and be D replacement in corner for Dickerson or Ruf in platooney ball. I just want more guys good enough you can play every day and not platoon. 2b and LF 2 weakest spots in lineup.
And Limp Dickerson…
“Giants manager Gabe Kapler will put Curt Casali behind the dish to start the second half of San Francisco’s 2021 campaign in St. Louis. Posey, still battling the bone bruise he suffered from a Daulton Varsho foul tip, will start the road trip on the bench.
Kapler joined the Murph & Mac show Friday morning and gave an update on the plan going forward for Posey.
“(The plan is) to check in with him on a daily basis. He’s really close,” Kapler said. “It’s just one of those things where you don’t want to put him out there too early. Both for his long-term health, and also for what’s best for the Giants. We want him very comfortable back behind the dish catching.””
Pen guys are too flakey to try and evaluate an inning at a time. Still in on Iglesias from Angels but hoping for SP that give you solid 5. Wonder if Braves might part with Smyly who did OK here last year.
Yeah, I thought we’d put up a little more fight to keep Slymy. Webb is the key though. As of now. He seems close to putting shit together, but he has been close for a while now.
Wonder if the Twins would deal SP Jose Barrios?
He has a team friendly contract at 6.2 mil and won’t be a F/A till 2023
This is a player that with that contract and control Zman could be interested in..
doubt anyone gives up a pitcher like that unless it’s for a massive haul
Leprino wins first race of Del Mar meet, ridden by Abel Cedillo for trainer Steve Miyadi. pays $12.80.
Santa Anita announcer Frank Mirahmadi calling races at Monmouth, love that guy. Hot Rod Charlie races there tomorrow.
Also this from Crowley:
The Giants recalled Logan Webb, reinstated Mike Tauchman from the IL, selected the contract of RHP Jay Jackson, optioned Jason Vosler and transferred Evan Longoria to the 60-day IL, meaning he won’t be able to return until after the trade deadline.
stretched to 65 pitches, we’ll see how that translates to innings
The Longo news is concerning, he got hurt June 5, so that’s going to be a lot longer than the 4-6 weeks originally reported.
fucking great
Well, at least he’s not hurt. No idea what that means though.
When this season is done, I’d like to know the total number of 40 and 25 man roster moves made by the Giants. It will likely be a record for the Giants. The number of guys going in/out/up/down is like two escalators continually moving in each direction…
Ahh, Gasman’s wife is close to delivering her baby and there were complications. Hope all is well.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr (L) 1B
2. M. Yastrzemski (L) RF
3. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
4. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
5. B. Crawford (L) SS
6. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
7. Steven Duggar (L) CF
8. Curt Casali (R) C
9. Logan Webb (R) P
Man I want to see Logan Webb, but to start the 2nd half?
Yo yo Vosler gets hosed again for 2Socks, oh those stupid options will follow him all season..
? How many options can a player have to go down with during a season?
My understanding is that one option relates to one season. A player on the 40 man with an option can be yo yo’d up and down as many times as management wants for that one option year. When the season is done, that year’s option expires. So, if a guy is new to the 40 man in 2021, and he was drafted a couple of years ago by the Gyros, he typically would have 3 option years to start as he first gets onto the 40 man. So, in 2021, ZMan can yank him up and down from SF to Sac as much as he wants, and the player will still be in Option year 1. At the end of the 2021 season, the player will now have 2 options left, covering him for the next two seasons if he’s on the 40 man at the start of those seasons (meaning he has a major league deal). Here’s a link with a pretty good explanation…
https://www.purplerow.com/2014/3/18/5520036/options-baseball-explanation-mlb
Thanks Snarkk&WillieD I think I get it but it does get confusing.
Geez I’m beginning to wonder if I have many options left to post here anymore?
Be careful, if you keep ripping Duggar, BF might DFA you… 😉
Per season Kat. Giants can do that all year to him.
Damn!
Almost climbed out of the grave…
BABIP gods continue revenge on GD. Best contact Giants have made so far.
That a boy Yaz!! A Bomb to get us started!
Yaz bomb!
Wainwright could pitch another 10 years with the robo ump, dropping that curveball all around the edges of the strike zone.
So basically any player with 5 years experience can’t be sent down like Tauchman for fear of losing him on waivers. But they can still send GraveDuggar,Dubon and all new call ups back down all year? Got it..
Arenado gets on base and always seems to score anyway.
0.33 Wainwright why waste pitches trying to get Bader out who could of burned them. Guessing Snarkk feels the same way, should of just put him on from the start..
LaMonster!!!
Wade 3-run bomb!
Boom! Way to pick other 2 up!
Wade !!! 3 run Bomb oh hell yes!!!
Getting it done with 2 outs after it looked like Wainwright would get out of the inning..
Nice hustle double by Dick…
Now a nice catch by Dick..
Bader is my new Enrique Hernandez..
Brebbia deserved better…
Lot of cheap hits for the Cardinals the pitchers didn’t deserve to give up
yes. Wade Jr. almost threw away the force out to Crawford too. Nice stop but that could have been disaster.
The Brebbia Aisle is closed for a cleanup..
Garcia nice job cleaning up the mess, though Loo is right.
GD just can’t hit off speed pitches, teams are learning not to throw him fastballs in the zone.
The ball he nearly hit out in his first AB was a curveball.
James I bet if you find a stat on what he’s done all year on curves, splits, sliders anything off speed it’s not going to be a good stat..
YA2!!!!
Another Yaz bomb!
Yeah love to see him break out in second half!
Man Giants sure ruined Nats. They’ve given up 19 to Pads in 7 innings and made 3 errors.
Yaz with a busting opening 2nd HR!!
Break did him well that’s for sure..
I like the way the Giants have come roaring out of the break.
Brebbia’s extreme attempt to compensate for Wade’s bad throw to 1B impressed me. His pitching was fine. I have a good feeling about him going forward.
Card broadcasters like him, but they seem to like everyone the Giants have picked up.
In ASG interview, Craw identified Brebbia as big clubhouse clown…
a good sense of humor will help get him through this snakebit season
Last time Yaz had a 2 HR game vs. Cards?
https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BOS/BOS196710050.shtml
Ha thx. love these. Lonborg almost no hit Cards.
fun fact: Julian Javier and Jose Tartabull both had kids play mlb too.
Had it…
Giants can’t get the bottom of order out.
Who the hell is this?
Gausman’s replacement, but don’t worry he has plenty of options!
a tall hard throwing Romo, maybe
Gonna give the kid a shot, have too Leone was throwing more junk up there then Eddie Harris in Major League and his uniform was drenched.. Go get em Jay!!
Jay with the K!
How about that Kid!! Beautiful pitch had Bader frozen!!
The Cards are doing what we do. 35 pitches, but no runs. Damn
Hate to say it to Daniel but Sell Sell Sell the Cards are toast, to far back in their division and the W/C spot..
Yanks also looking DOA…
Oh fuck, now Craw’s hurt.
Oh boy.
Doesn’t look serious…
We’re supposed to be getting healthier not hurter.
Crawford out after running to 1B. The strict regimen this year is amazing. Any twinge, any issue, come out. Don’t make it worse. Make it better. Cueto’s hand cut across his throat early in the year when he felt a problem showed the program. And it looks like everyone’s bought in. Don’t fuck with an injury. New school.
Fouts must have a few TDs tonight.
John Hadl was damn good, too…
The new guy got out Goldy and Arenado!
Leadoff double by the new first baseman.
Props to Mr.Options Jay Jackson pitched real well kid!
Unfortunately when Gausman comes back you’ll have to go back to the summer heat in Sac..
Ballgame!
Giants Win Again!
Nice start to the 2nd half!!
Ballgame!
MadBum made first start since June 2, 6 IP 2 H 1 ER 6 Ks vs. Cubbies.
I’m just amazed everytime this team hits the field every game, they can do know wrong..
