Perfection
The Giants lost but that matters not as I have my coffee brewed, The Open is on and I am alone. Literally a perfect morning.
Some of you guys have asked about Black Butte. It’s in central Oregon, my family has a house there. I go there mostly for the golf but I usually try to wheez out a run in the morning. This is the meadow I run through, I stopped to take a video because it was literally a perfect morning. Just like this one.
51 years ago today Mays got his 3,000th hit. This picture looks more like a painting than a picture.

Cards throwing a bullpen game at Giants today.
Which sounds good, but they’re starting lefty LeBlanc, which means the fairly anemic righty lineup will be going. Giants desperately need a legit right handed hitter in LF. Hopefully Posey can start, but who knows about this thumb thing.
Cueto going today.
I think Giants will need at least 5-6 runs to win.
He’ll probably give up 2 HRs at least, he doesn’t usually just give up solo shots. It’ll be a miracle if the GoldyNado combo doesn’t get at least 1 HR between them; if they don’t homer, SF has a good shot to win…
Nice vid Flav, looks beautiful. OK for water up there in that region? Calif unfortunately, is definitely not.
Not sure how much present day players are into it, but to Daniel Cueto is Public Enemy #1, kinda like Jose Oquendo status. He’s mentioned him before in posts on his blog.
If this is a pen game for STL at some point the other guys (LHs) come into play; notice Kapler did start GD vs. Kim, whom nobody hit very well, again. Yes hoping Posey and Crawford ready to go and Kap has more options to work with.
Morikawa running away with it.
As i say that, Spieth creeps closer.
Great news…Craw back in the line-up. Let’s get this series win and go kick some LA ass…
1. Austin Slater (R) CF
2. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
3. M. Yastrzemski (L) RF
4. Darin Ruf (R) 1B
5. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
6. B. Crawford (L) SS
7. Mike Tauchman (L) LF
8. Chadwick Tromp (R) C
9. Johnny Cueto (R) P
Morikawa pulling away, this guy is so steady, puts himself in great position and never seems to hit a bad shot. Spieth hanging around, and Louis O faltering as he always does on the final day.
And right on cue, he hits a bad one.
And still gets the par.
Not to surprising GD gets a rest in his coffin ⚰️ today. No upgrade though when Sock it not to me gets in there.
Mays hit number 3,000 was a well placed grounder between the SS and 3B as I recall..
Morikama for a guy that only played a round of links golf ⛳️ once are twice looks like a natural playing on it.
Speith&OO not counting out but Colin has that Harding park magic going right now..
Any of you still think Tauchman should be in MLB? Yes he saved 1, maybe 2 games but over time does that compare to below .200 with no power? maybe Slater Duggar Wade could get more rhythm if they played more regularly?
There’s a great chance Tauchman won’t be a major leaguer after this season.
Snow was willing to say what Krukow won’t, that Tauchman is late on his swings.
That’s been obvious all season.
The dude is not a major league hitter. He’s a good fielder, but you can’t have an OFer who is all field, no hit, literally…
It would be good for him and the Giants if Tauchman could just be throw in on any deal at the deadline..
It’s not like the Giants are lacking outfielders..
Buried at bottom of transactions in Chron, NY Rangers acquire Barclay Goodrow from Tampa Bay Lightning for 7th round draft pick.
Oh man this guy scored one of most iconic goals in Sharks history 2 years ago, OT game 7 game winner to eliminate hated rival Vegas. Great pass from Erik Karlsson, skates around lone defender on his side walks in all alone on Marc Andre Fleury and puts goal in beyond his outstretched right pad. Game ova!
We get a break from J T today. Pence sounds great.
Yeah I still think he’s on track for the gig full time. May take a year or two to work him in and one of the Ks out.
Swing the fuckin bat, Wilmet!
Jesus…
And Flores in the early running for Crap AB of the Game.
Yep💩💩💩💩💩💩
Flemming&Pence doing anything they can to build up 2Socks, it’s not working..
Yeah, sounded like they were reading a script from ZHarris.
475 feet?
Ruf with some Stuff ! …
Upper Deck in Big Mac section for Ruf!!
Wilmer bails again. He needs some oats. Or peppermints. He’s definitely lost both his wil and flo at the plate.
Wimet needs to clean out Mr.Ed’s stall of horse manure..
With DH on way next year, Giants could do lot worse than Ruf as RH half of platoon.
Muscle head O’Neill sure spends a lot of AB time out of the box.
Farhan needs to get at least one OFer to boost this toothless outfield offense…
Time to get some runs before GoldyNado come up again…
Plus this is the only part of the lineup that can do anything.
Barrels is really finding his stroke right now..
Oh Yaz nice follow up hit for 1st&3rd no outs..
Morikawa takes the Claret Jug.
Go Bears ! …
Bomb or no bomb you’re getting pinch hit for, Ruf…
Is he really that bad vs. righties?
And then let Wilmer hit?
yeah I didn’t get that one. Kap has said before Ruf does fine vs. RHP.
Phuck me. Send Solano there and make the outfielder make a play.
Giants are struggling to score.
He would have scored…
Tauchmann needs to make them pay for pitching around Crawford.
What are the odds at getting a hit here?
Another grand slam or another K ?…
Flemm: Giants are happy to have Tauchman up in this spot.
Giants fans: We beg to differ.
The guy is useless at the plate.
He’s worse than useless, they gave Crawford a free pass to get to him, so his presence in the lineup is making things worse than just him sucking…
Yep, Cards knew what they were doing.
Now hitting at around .182 and .590 OPS.
I cannot be convinced that somebody, somebody at AAA or AA would not a better all around contributor than this guy. He’s out of options, but who gives an S if he’s DFA’d and somebody picks him up?
Farhan cannot help but see that you can’t continue to succeed by constantly failing to score with men on second and /or third situations with no or one out…
You could see this inning blowing up quickly.
Fleming jizzing over a useless Tauchman ( Giants feel like he’s coming out of it lol) is just unbelievable..
Bader couldn’t even hit the pitcher on his rag throw and he bobbled it.
Easy score if Wotus pulls his head out of his ass and stop protecting a slow runner..
Wotus is probably gone next season. They’ll bring in younger players, FAs and get rid of Belt, if not one more of the old guard.
I don’t understand not sending Solano. If the Giants brain trust is as smart as supposedly they are, they would know that with two out, the Cards would walk Crawford and pitch to linguini-bat Tauchman, with the likely result being no runs scored. So, unless it’s a long pop-up, you send Solano, though he’s not that fast (nor too slow) and make the outfield make a play…
Snarkk posed the question of whether or not SF would have been better off over the years to have walked Arenado and Goldschmidt every PA. Looking at PG’s splits against opponents, one thing stands out: unsurprisingly, the Giants aren’t particularly special victims of his. He’s done basically the same thing to each NL west team.
One very simple way to answer the question is to compare OPS’s
624 walks, 1000 OPS
Actual OPS, 935
Ha! Fearful symmetry.
It doesn’t tell the whole story, does it?
If it’s all walks, there’s no HRs, no doubles, no hits. Unless the bags are loaded, a walk doesn’t result in an RBI.
Compare the RBIs…
RBIs ?
Well, you could look at runs created
https://wikimedia.org/api/rest_v1/media/math/render/svg/3f12d058bc4826eccb4076f81684fdee9eb4d6b3
Goldschmidt’s actual runs created against SF using this simple version of the formula is 110. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work when you plug in extreme hypothetical numbers.
The other way to prove that 624 walks will result in a shitload of runs for his team is to look at the expected runs scored table at
https://gregstoll.com/~gregstoll/baseball/runsperinning.html
and imagine applying the percentage of PAs he’s had in each of the 12 relevant scenarios over his career to the 624 PA SF total, e.g, he’s led off an inning with no one on a little more than one in 6 PAs, or about 110 times against SF. ~ 20 runs would score from those 110 walks.
If the Giants don’t dick around with Vosler and his stupid options he would be the guy in that spot, but since he’s back in the minors we’re stuck with this chump no options and no ability..
I was looking at Sac box score for yesterday. Dubon is hitting .400 and they have 6 guys (including Bart) over .300 in yesterday lineup. Mc Carthy is at .300…what I’m saying is, btw hitter friendly parks and level of some of the pitching, it’s not easy to evaluate hitters. McCarthy sucked here and so did Dubon.
Wade Jr and Estrada both came out of there and Jaylin davis, so did Vosler (whom I like). Sounds otherwise like shuffling deck chairs to bring up a Braden Bishop or someone else, like an IF.
Ramos is doing better at Richmond this month, but he’s hitting .233—at AA ball.
Let me ask another way.
Other than he has no options and is exposed to other teams in a DFA, which I see as BFD, what is Tauchman’s marginal value over other alternatives that keeps him with the big club?…
Carpenter under .200, doesn’t matter vs. the Giants.
So, Cards immediately move runner over to 3rd, with seemingly no problem…
There you go.
Cards at least create contact with man on third, and force Giants to make a play, which they can’t…
Kapler still has a boner with guys like Tauchman and Dick figuring they earn their stripes to continue on!
Great there goes the tie, almost automatic that was going to happen..
Belt was on pace for over 30/80 before the injury…
What about after?
Yeah, these OFers have dropped off the map lately.
Moving runners with ease. Our downfall unfortunately.
In a way it’s good that certain weaknesses are becoming obvious as the TD approaches…
Whoa. Hunter Pence explaining how the minute components of the WAR metric alerted him to the importance of small aggressions. “To help your team win games,”.
Earlier he lamented that he would likely have been an even better player, if he hadn’t been as aggressive at the plate. 100 points of career OPS is going to add to a few more wins than those micro aggressions.
I didn’t say micro.
But he was talking about WAR as an elucidating concept — once he examined the components. That’s interesting.
Agreed, his commentary is open, honest, and different enough from the other ex players.
You know it was kind of a slap in the face for GraveDuggar not to have pinched hit for Suckless with the bags full. Struggling are not it couldn’t of been worse..
How long is Brebbia here before Farhan pulls his plug for some other arm?…
Wade sitting on 1-14.
Now 4-32…
Grave Duggar 3-33…
Let’s just say the AAAA players are hitting like that…
Now Hunter explains that Yaz swung his hips too much to call it a check. K and K look only at the bat and hands when they try to determine if the batter “offered” at it. Hunter is good.
Some Giant(s) need to hit an HR…
Listening on the radio and I have no idea who the announcers are. Haven’t said that ever.
Joe Ritzo (SJ Giants announcer) and Randy Wynn.
Not horrible, not memorable…
Whatever happened to Hank Greenwald’s kid?
Doug still announcing Grizzlies in Fresno. They’re the Rockies low single A club now.
They’ve associated with Astros, Nats, now Rockies since Giants left, says Wiki.
He’s been doing that for 18 years.
I guess he likes Fresno. I assume he does something else, too, to pay the mortgage.
I’ll take Ritzo over Doug Greenwald, and it’s not even close…
boring
Great AB by Wilmet to finally get beaned!
Crawford needs to Jack a HR!!
Are not…Damm
Snarkk, hard to see what they see n Tauchman, but he has only been activated in last week. Don’t think they would do anything with other guys Slater GD Dickerson. Someone has to play CF, they platoon LH/RH and Davis is hurt too. The guys in AAA seem like filler to me and would likely play sparingly.
Maybe they pry more everyday guy away at deadline.
They have 7 outfielders on the active roster right now, crazy 😜
If Tauchman leads off the 9th I’ll be throwing something at my TV 📺..
What was it?
TV survive?… 😉
One pitch out save the screen?
My Tv is now damaged now, I can’t believe Kapler stayed with him.. ferchrissakes.,
They need to lay off anything that looks like it has a break…
Giants are still in first place; don’t think big changes are on horizon from Z/H. Last time I looked couple days ago, Giants are 3rd in NL for position WAR in CF, with Duggar Slater combo. LF and 2b are only spots not in top 5.
Let’s see how things look after four vs the bums.
And then there more.
Good walk by Duggar…
Now’s the time for the HR…
Don’t tag, Dickhead…
That was painful.
Giants just cannot get hits with RISP that are not HRs.
A split upcoming in LA would be huge…
Dickerson stays at 2 nd on a ball carrying to the warning track a the fielder was running away to catch it wtf??
Pathetic ending!!!
Wynn said something that I sort of agree with — in that case, the runner at 2nd had to go halfway to 3rd in case the outfielder falls or drops the ball for some reason, so that he can score. I’m not totally convinced by that, because from 3rd you can score on a passed ball, and chances of the OFer F’ing up that fly are low. Plus, even if the OFer drops it, Dickerson isn’t that fast, Wotus might hold him anyway…
Reyes is one lucky mofo.
Yep. Fuck the Cards. The Dog series becomes bigger. We need some OFers that hit.
Not an ideal way to head to L.A. for a 4-game series. If they don’t hit bombs, they don’t score. Getting runs any other way is an excruciating challenge for this team.
I can see this second half really hitting the skids if the outfield and AAAA dudes like Wade can’t friggin’ hit anything but the occasional HR. The schedule is way way tougher than the first 90+ games, lots of good pitching to face…
Is it just me or does anybody else think the Giants are auditioning a bunch of guys for next season to take over for Kuip, Kruk, Jon, one or all of them, with Flemm as the new lead announcer? I think K&K are under contract for next year, but that might not be a deciding factor…
Absolutely agree.
K & K have major health issues.
It’s sad…
For analysts, Pence sounds pretty good at first blush.
I like Estes pretty much, too.
Lopez, no. Wynn, no.
It will be hard to replace Miller whenever that is.
Outside of Flemm, I’ve not heard anybody close to being as good. Ritzo is decent, but no depth to him.
It’s in between the pitches you realize how good a guy like Miller is…
2 tough games to lose when they couldn’t get the one hit they needed at right time. Pitching allowed 5 runs in 2 days; D/S was good yesterday and Cueto was fine today and kept them in game. Webb was fine in his start. 58-34 on season–Giants have built some cushion for bad series or two and respond to adversity well…so far.
Yeah, starting pitching not the issue.
Cueto performed way better than I expected, no HRs to GoldyNado, but Giants can’t score against an 8-team journeyman. Cards basically can’t hit either, so far for the entire season, so maybe Cueto’s performance has to be measured against that…
Gausman looks like he’s going to start tomorrow night.
Huge game for Giants to start that series, they need to do everything to score with their ace going…
So who’s the CF they can trade for?
My suggestion of Michael Taylor shouldn’t be too hard to beat…
Lots of rumors about Kris Bryant getting moved by Cubs.
I’d take him for LF if he doesn’t cost any of the top 5 or 6 field position prospects.
Pitcher prospects I don’t care…
Rox walk off Bums in 10!!!
Yes! Still in 1st!
Nats walk off Pads in 9!!!
MLB-TV and NFL Red Zone are incredible…
Bum’s blow a 9 th inning lead to lose in the 10th! Giants still in 1st place by themselves!
Sorry Dodgers but only the best tuna ends up being starkist thanks to Charlie Blackmon walkoff bomb!!
Giants ex-farmhand Bickford served up a knee high FB inner half.
Good to see Doghairs get a dose of a walk off loss.
Way to go Bickford, now you’re finally earning your first round pick…
