A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

A Loss To the Pirates

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 24, 2021

Well, whatever, right? Win the ones you’re supposed to lose, lose the ones you think you’ve got in the bag. Was there a letdown? Who knows. It’s hard to be up for every game especially coming off whatever the hell that LA series was.

Would like to think we’ve got the advantage with GasMan on the mound but truthfully none of us know what is going to happen. It’s baseball. Anything can happen in a game.

Happy birthday to the GREAT Barry Bonds who turns 57 today and who could still probably be an asset to team.

The Padres gained a game on the Giants and Dodgers. It’s going to be a wild and crazy ride for the three teams.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 24, 2021 at 8:47 am

And a decent chance the 2 losers of the division will meet in the WC, right?
Hope there’s some representation from the crew here if that comes down…

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 24, 2021 at 8:58 am

We hope the Giants win the division, of course, but it’s also nice knowing they have a big lead on a Wild Card spot. The Giants have an 11 game lead built up on that at the moment.

I do think Bonds could play today and succeed on a limited basis.
The toughest thing for him would be catching up with the 100 MPH heat.
The great and forgotten Minnie Minoso played a few games at ages 50 & 54 in order to become a 5 decade player…

Writer for MLB.COM predicting the fate of 25 players at the TD.
He has Bryant coming to SF and possibly Scherzer as well…

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 24, 2021 at 9:37 am

there is less than 1% chance Scherzer is dealt in my opinion. He means more to that franchise and that city than any player ever, even Zimmerman. It would take a MASSIVE haul to placate the fans and nobody is offering a massive haul for Max. Guys just like to write about shit for clicks……

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 24, 2021 at 11:12 am

He did make a decent case for Bryant being a fit for SF – questionable status of Belt & Longoria, plus possible support in LF. Scherzer he just kind of threw out there and said the Giants and Dodgers would be possibilities.

But yeah, today it’s all about clicks and likes, isn’t it?
I would love to see some next generation perspective here.

Dodgers bullpen cratered again last night giving up 1 in the 9th and 3 in the 10th. Dogs had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the 9th and didn’t score. They didn’t even put the ball in play. 3 k’s.

Dodgers are 1-10 in extra innings, maybe the ghost runner gimmick isn’t so bad.

One good thing to come out of last night was 2 LHs with HRs, GD into water and line drive shot from Dickerson.
Next 2 SPs for Pirates both RH. Not so good night of course for others, including Wade Jr. Yaz n Vosler.

Btw thx to Mac for 9:33 last night. Note yesterday 12:53 Mac had post referencing Loo saying they’d be tired team coming in after night game Thursday and his own about them being primed for letdown. Spot on.

Deadline only a week away. Dogs have lost 5 of 6, starting last Sunday vs. Rox. Pads closing in, but also have trader deluxe Preller at helm. Both seemed primed to make major deals to improve.

so, question…if Giants did only low key move or two and nothing big (like prospects or guys on current 40 man roster for rental say), would it bug the clubhouse as led by Crawford and Posey, or not?

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 24, 2021 at 12:53 pm

why would it bug them? Any move would be made to make the team better, I assume at this point Craw and Posey trust Z and Kap’s decisions

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 24, 2021 at 1:01 pm

I’m asking if they would be disappointed Giants didn’t make a big move and the other teams did.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on July 24, 2021 at 1:58 pm

last year everyone was worried what the players would think if they broke up the Bore Core. Now it’s wondering if they’ll be mad they didn’t make a big enough move? Like I said, I believe the players trust Z and Kap at this point to do whatever is necessary to make the team better.

  10. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 24, 2021 at 1:25 pm

I don’t think it would effect the Vets like Posey&Craw much at all there so battle tested and keep such an even keel. I think Z/H should really go after guys with an option year thru 2022 atleast if they trade prospects.
Haniger and Gallo fit that category, I prefer Haniger , the RH bat that’s putting up a great season and can play RF are LF and u can slide Yaz into Center..

Lots of rumblings about Bart being moved( maybe drafting him and Bailey back to back might be a trade chip for sure now,) Bart wasn’t a Z pick , he might be more comfortable with Bailey and his overall analytics potential)
Heard a few scenarios like Bart and Wilson to Seattle for Haniger and there reliever Drew Scheinberg ( not sure about that last name) but he’s been solid out of the pen.I would jump on that.
There was another one which was Bart,Canário, Wilson for Haniger and backend starter Flexen ( having a good season but not sustainable for the future) not keen on that one.

It is a fine line for Z/H to continue to build for the future while maintaining the presence. But with 2 teams crawling up your ass constantly, a trade are 2 for reinforcements can’t hurt.Sabes did that in his heyday with his heist of the Whitesox’s pitchers 2(Danny Darwin and I’m drawing a blank on the other starter a lefty I think)and Ramon Ramirez I think? And they rolled to the division title..

a back end SP, a back end RP and a dependable slugging OF — that’s quite a shopping list the speculators have laid out for the Giants. I just don’t see Zaidi and staff, or Kapler, this late in the astonishing season, settling for a rental anywhere.

I think most done recently (non bonds) is Pence with 27. Can Crawford surpass that? right now his slugging pct of .546 is way better than 2015, when it was .460 and he had 58 XBHs.

Brebbia with guys on 2nd and 3rd?
Somehow I’m not thinking this will come out well…

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 24, 2021 at 7:55 pm

      Yep.
      Brebbia is crap.
      He couldn’t finish the batter.
      Both runners in.
      Brebbia needs to go.
Kappler shares a lot of that blame. The game is on the precipice of getting out of hand, you gotta stop the bleeding.
Yet, he brings in a guy who has no history of being able to do that since he’s here…

And it doesn’t.That closes the book on Gausman outing.,
Brebbia will start a new book of suckage..

  64. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 24, 2021 at 8:01 pm

    Gausman obviously didn’t have it.
Why not take him out before this inning started, and bring in an arm for a stretch couple of innings?
Instead of 3-1, now they’re at 6-1. They have a day off Monday. Think out of the box. Now the game is pretty much done, barring a really good comebac against a decent Pen. Losing 2 of 3 to the Bucs is muy no bueno…

No pinch-hitter? Is Kap waving the white flag?

Down by 5, 2 outs, four more innings to go with more promise, despite the odds against coming back.

    Tauchman with another K.
Good that these games showed up now, before the trade deadline. There actually may be a limit to the unanswered “how are these guys winning?” question…

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 24, 2021 at 8:39 pm

Sure, but they are still in first place and have reinforcements (Crawford Longo Belt Moronta LaStella) on the way. Just say no to rentals, and deal players away off the 26, not prospects, preferably for players with control that can help not just now but going forward too, 2022 team at least.

Gausman could cost himself many millions of dollars in the off-season with outings like tonight.

  74. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 24, 2021 at 9:12 pm

Man the Pirates must have really been pissed off after Crawford’s Slam ruined their home game in the playoffs.
They have a bullseye 🎯 hanging up everytime that have faced the Giants since.Add the fleecing of talent they stole away over the years as well.
And yes for Zumie they got one back in the Reynolds for Cutch move..

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 24, 2021 at 9:15 pm

Yeah, Reynolds would fit nicely in the Giants lineup.
