A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Can’t Beat Them

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 25, 2021

Every year there is a team we can’t beat. This season it is the Pirates. Makes no sense. Just looking forward to good riddence and not having to play them again. I’m sure they’ll light up Wood. Let’s just get this over with already.

If someone who didn’t follow baseball closely had been watching last 2 games with you, and you told them one team was in first place and the other was in last, they’d probably say, “Yeah I can see that. One team hits pitches and fields well, and the other doesn’t.”

  2. Winder's avatar Winder said, on July 25, 2021 at 7:42 am

Hopefully getting spanked by the Pirates won’t derail the team attitude in any way. Every team goes through times like this.

  3. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 25, 2021 at 8:22 am

Agree Winder and this team was never suppose to be in this spot in the first place. So what’s there longest losing streak of the season like just 4? Going into this season I had them at 74 wins and that was pushing the envelope I felt, and that would of seen a hell of lot of 8-9 games losing streaks easily.I’m not sweating this stupid Pirates series letdown, just waiting to rekick the Dogpile’s Asses coming up and to see what tinkering the mastermind wizard Z pulls off at the trade deadline..In Farhan we trust!!

    • Winder's avatar Winder said, on July 25, 2021 at 8:46 am

Pretty sure I had em at 74 wins also. Yeah, I have had more fun with this season than i ever expected. I still don’t have a clue what we are gonna do at the deadline.

In Jerry Kramer’s great book, Instant Replay, about playing for the Green Bay Packers in the 1960s, there’s a moment in the book where he says that it’s impossible for NFL players to be emotionally up for every game. They’re only human, and they’re going to be emotionally flat sometimes. It’s frustrating to fans, but that’s just the way it is.
It was probably predictable the Giants would be flat after that incredible series vs. the Dodgers, and with another Dodgers series coming up real soon.

  5. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 25, 2021 at 8:57 am

Before the first game of this series Greg Papa asked Kontos in the pregame show if there was a danger of the Giants being flat and Kontos said “No, they’re professionals, and they know how to get prepared for each game,” or something like that. The fans knew the danger was there, but Kontos didn’t? If he’s not going to be honest about stuff like that, there’s no point in having him on the pregame show.

You have to be super careful and a little lucky to avoid results these days.
So many different ways to accidently see or hear it.
A text from a friend might be the most hazardous if it involves your favorite team.

Last night on post game Kruk was talking with someone else and they thought the let down would have been Friday’s game. I have yet to see this team let losses bother them, they seem to bounce back really well. I think they win today.

  8. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 25, 2021 at 9:25 am

Zum, unfortunate that politics of Kerr and Pop will come into this-I still see this noise in SF Chron over Kerr. Chron writer Ann Killion is in Japan and after first L by womens soccer team vs. Sweden majority of comments in Chron were “good” and serves them right for hating on America etc.
So called patriots hoping their own county loses, yikes.

  9. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 25, 2021 at 9:30 am

Recent run of success at plate by GD might involve him as trade chip. BA is up to .285, OB at .350 OPS .840 one of better (top 6 I think) marks on team.
I’ve seen ton of trade proposals by Giants fans, and almost all of them involve Dubon Dickerson yada yada. I mean if that is who you are giving up, then who do you realistically hope to get back?
Z/H plan for this season has been exclusively acquiring under radar guys, and honestly I don’t expect that to change in the next week. It will be interesting to see who SF looks to extend, and who they non tender or low ball in arb like Solano.

      He’s a Cardinal type of player…

LOL. Anyway, nobody had heard of Grave Duggar then and I doubt anyone wants to trade for him now. He’s a valuable piece to our team, not sure he’d be wanted elsewhere.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 25, 2021 at 9:41 am

He’s still only a platoon guy, and how Kap uses him, batting 8th Friday, says it all. Fits what Kap likes to do, but doesn’t seem like everyday guy; 2021 might be ceiling if used sparingly enough. Could see him as toss in to part of deal for someone else they are interested in.

Ramos had 0 fer but got 3 walks stole a bag and scored 3 times. Only runs Sac gave up were 2 in an inning of work by—Trevor Gott.
Will wilson homered for Richmond. Hitting only .215 but playing SS there after promotion from High A Eugene.
Beede pitched the other night for Sac, went 3 2/3 gave up only 1 unearned run but threw 78 pitches. He took L as Sac didn’t score. One of guys who followed him was Doval who gave up 3 hits 3 runs in 1 inning of work.

Team may have been emotionally exhausted after the Flodger series but they cant let up on them as they come into SF. Winning two not a must but if SmelLA takes two they will be mentally over last week’s Jansen meltdown.

But these last two losses should be a sign that they need add pieces to remain seriousn contenders. One starter one bat…

who cares what it looks like? only care what it does. Same goes for pitching.
Giants held Max Muncy, scary as he is, to 2-10 over last couple Dogs games. and what happened? Taylor was guy that hurt SF.
Giants entire team except for BC, is built around cast off under radar guys. And their offense is one of top run scoring teams in the NL.

SabEvans traded Reynolds in 2018 to get Cutch.
He’s now got a .921 OPS for the year, and clearly the best player the Pirates have. Cutch essentially made no difference to the Giants over the few months he was here, before they traded him near the deadline that season to the Yanks for Avelino (where is he?). So, 1/2 a near useless season of Cutch in exchange for an OFer good for a decade that makes the current OF crop in SF look like pikers. Nice parting shot move the Giants are still suffering from, SabEvans…

Where will Jake from State Farm play now?

    • sandog's avatar sandog said, on July 25, 2021 at 4:06 pm

Outfield maybe? No way is he coming out of the line up. I think Profar is the guy they have been looking to replace.

I think Frazier can play outfield actually San Dog,
Though benching Hosmer( guess won’t happen) could free up Frazier at 2nd and Jake at 1st..

Another guy I was wrong about: Lamonte Wade. Although I wasn’t totally wrong, he’s never had a hit off a left hander in his life. Same as me. I have the same BA that Wade has vs lefties at the MLB level

Yeah but I bet you could hit a left hand softball pitcher though..

I think the new 415 (SF area code) bleacher seat promotion the Giants hoped to hype got bombed by the RR.
