No Other Choice But To Keep Winning
The pussification of San Diego continues onward with their complete laydown last night. Of course LA won. One good thing about this ridiculous bar getting set by both teams: they will go into the post season razor sharp. There’s nothing worse than winning your division by 10 games, resting guys and then trying to ramp it up all of a sudden. I like that this is a battle to the end….
Agree, Flav. And the bit I saw from the post-game, the guys were fairly reserved. They acknowledged the accomplishment, but everyone knows the immediate end goal is the division crown.
44 over .500…that is just fucking crazy, and especially in relation to this team, who no one gave a chance to complete at the beginning of the season.
Onward and Upward…let’s go destroy some pussies…
Saw Baggs article in Athletic on doughnuts. Agreed, pretty funny stuff—nutritionist looks other way, Kap all in yada yada. Used to be staple of office work 20-25 yrs ago-once a week or two someone (I did it myself as we were in building by 7 AM for whse and deliveries) would bring in dozen or so.
Wonder if “Yu” is short for something. Regardless, just when Pads needed a good outing Giants crushed him. NL WC fight for second spot will be interesting, AL too with both spots still up for grabs.
Wussy?
POTD is great. Lot of people recorded that song, including Aretha Franklin. Anyone seen “Respect”? Really enjoyed her early Atlantic LPs, still have couple.
Just having a little fun with our resident Beatle fanatic…
Agree that the post was hilarious…have not seen “Respect,” but want to see it.
Been an Atlantic and Stax fan my whole life
NorCal HS sports world abuzz with loss by DeLaSalle football to local WCAL power St. Francis of Mt. View Friday night. First L to NorCal team in 30 years, ends unbeaten streak at 318 games.
Maybe new Sherriff in town…
Yeah, when I was working in an office, I used to bring donuts in once every couple of weeks. There is a place here in Placerville, Sweetie Pies, that makes incredible cinnamon rolls/sticky buns and I would take a dozen of those in sometimes. They do muffins, bake all their breads in-house, but are not a donut shop. There was also a very good donut shop run by a Vietnamese family who made the best donuts. Mmmmm….donuts.
Tim Horton’s donut joints are starting to turn up in Brooklyn.
I’ve heard great things about them.
They seem to be mostly found in gas stations.
The variety of junk food and beer that you can buy in gas stations here has increased an awful lot in recent years. Many of them now have built in Burger Kings, Pizza Huts, Nathan’s Famous, etc.
No wonder everyone is fat, diabetic and on cholesterol medication…
Funny you mentioned Tim Hortons Loo. I bought a big can of their red can coffee from Amazon. It’s quite good, I believe it’s made in Canada 🇨🇦 I had never heard of it but it had such good reviews I figured why not give it a try and glad I did..
Selling gasoline doesn’t make a lot of money. Retail margins per gallon can be from a couple of cents to maybe 15-20 cents, tops, depending on the local competition. Stations make the money on the “C-Store” sales, where the generally unhealthy food products and other goodies have 50%+ margins at the point of sale. The C-store is way more profitable if it sells beer, BTW. Generally, the more doors in the cooler, the more profitable the C-Store. There’s a reason those AM/PM mini-marts at Arco stations are bigger than some corner groceries. And, the co-branded stations (with the small fast food eateries attached) serve both brands well — one attracts customers of the other, and vice versa. Personally, I’d far rather have a good sized C-Store with a 10-door cooler than a co-brand with McDonalds or Arby’s or whatever. C-Store appeals to everyone…
Q back onto ML roster, Dubon back to Sac. Solano supposedly on rehab assignment but Sac scheduled game got cancelled. Wood threw “side session” yesterday according to Shea but no word on next step yet.
Use to get the doughnuts for my work in the late 70’s from a Hostess distribution store down the street for the 10:00 break.Best part involving the massive coffee metal container was we all got a shot of brandy in are cup! Like that would happen anymore ☕️🥃🍩
Giants now have 17 players with 5HR’s are more a major league record..
And to think a few short years ago they basically couldn’t hit an HR to save their souls…
Happy donuts in SM/RC/PA is the BEST! There’s a donut shop in Alamo that is outstanding as well. They opened a Dunkin donuts recently in the Creek. Meh. Decent coffee. Overrated donuts.
Krispy Kreme is even worse.
Not a fan of any of the big box donut stores. I prefer the small family-owned stores. My experience is they always have the best donuts.
When I was in high school, we would go out and party on weekend nights, and would end up at Daylight Donuts. They were open all night. Go in and get a 10 cent cup of coffee and have a few donuts. Damn, those were good times.
Unca do you remember Wild Bill’s Donuts in San Carlos? Now that was the go to donut shop for awesome delicious donuts 🍩
Yep. On Laurel St. Near Rod’s Used Records?
Yep, there was an all-night happy donuts on the hill by CSM in San Mateo that we would end up at around 4 am on some good nights. Strong coffee and fresh donuts. nothing better.
Funny thing is, when they opened the Dunkin donuts, the lines were awful for about 5 months. The Roseville Krispy Kreme was even worse. Blehhhhh.
I think Stan Mikita’s donut shop in Wayne’s World movie was modeled after Tim Horton’s.
I was at a triple overtime Ranger-Blackhawk game in 1971. Rangers facing elimination in Game 6.
In the second OT Mikita hit the left post flush on from out front. The puck came right back to him and he rifled it off the other post. Absolutely incredible. Rangers went on to win in 3rd OT. I’m pretty sure Horton assisted on the winning goal (by Pete Stemkowski). Of course the Rangers would go on to lose Game 7.
I can almost hear Mac fact checking me…
Not this time, I didn’t even know the Rangers played the Blackhawks in the ’71 playoffs.
Donuts are pretty much all about the temperature and cleanliness of the oil.
In Brooklyn, half a century ago, the likely response you would get to that comment was:
“So’s your mom”
Some things just won’t leave my mind…

Missed last night’s game after losing power when a storm blew through around the 2nd inning. But I see there was no lack of power for the Bombers by the Bay. Keep pounding the Pads!
Giants have 18 games left, LA has 17.
I think LA certainly could win 13-14 of those 17:
2 at home still with Dbacks.
On the road for 3 at Reds, 3 at Rockies, 3 at Dbacks.
Home to end season: 3 with Pads, 3 with Brewers (who may be resting players).
If LA won 14, they’d have 106 wins for the season.
To win the division with 107, Giants would have to win 13 of their next 18…
This is fucking nuts. Shades of 1993 all over again and the last real pennant race. At their current pace 2 teams could reach 110 wins.
Unreal.
Yup.
So much like1993 with the WC as a chancy consolation prize…
My only hope is the Reds offer some resistance.
Giants have to absolutely punish the Pads in these final 10 games with them.
The way LA is playing, 8 Ws minimum of the 10 is almost a must have…
I guessed SF would get to 77 Ws this year, and that IMO was highly optimistic.
They’ll certainly get to 100+, which would have been crazy talk at the start of this season.
Clearly, this is already one of the best regular seasons in SF history, and it may turn out to be the absolute best and most surprising of all…
Regardless of the outcome, this IS the most surprising season, in SF history at least, given that they are in the playoffs.
Would you rather have LA lose the division, then (i) lose the wild card, and Giants face somebody like St. Louis in an NLDS, or have (ii) LA win the wild card, and it’s an SF-LA NLDS? I think I’d want to face LA in an NLDS, it would be a wild-ass series, something we’ve never seen before, even though LA has, on paper, a better shot to win that series than somebody like STL. Giants have played LA tough all year, winning the season’s series 10-9, but that LA starting pitching looks brutal in a 5-game NLDS…
Assuming the Giants play in and win the WC game is LA definitely their opponent in the NLDS?
I think it used to be that the WC winner couldn’t face the winner of their own division in the NLDS, but I think they might’ve changed that a few years ago. Anybody know?
I might also be thinking of the NFL…
Yes, if either SF or LA win the WC, they will play the other in the NLDS. It’s stupid, that the two teams with the best records would play in the NLDS, but that’s how it works, from what I’m hearing. The team with the best record plays the WC winner. It should be that the team with the best record plays the WC winner, unless the WC winner has a better record than one or both of the other Div winners. In that case the WC winner should play the Div winner with the second best record, and the Div winner with the record worse than the WC winner plays the Div winner with the best record…
Thanks, Snarkk and regarding your 12:28 post, would the Giants only have to tie LA to win the division having won the season series from them?
Someone posted that here the other day…
I think so…
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_tie-breaking_procedures
No, I believe that if LA and SF have a tie record at the end of 162, they have a one game playoff to determine the division winner. That game is the day after the end of the season. It would be held at Oracle in SF, since SF won the season’s head to head at 10-9. Your link seems to confirm that…
Yeah, I misunderstood it…
Trea Turner:
“They’ve played some historic baseball — you can’t knock that. It’s not like we haven’t done enough. They’ve just done really well, so you tip your cap, and you keep playing.”
Great answer. You cannot control what your opponents will do.
Gimme guys who are poor, smart and hungry. And no feelings. You win some, you lose some, but you keep on fighting . . . and if you need a friend, get a dog.
-Gordon Gekko
The outcomes I really dread are a loss in the WC or a lopsided elimination in the NLDS. The chorus of naysayers will be insufferable, ready to diminish the results from 162 games with driveling, cliched nonsense. I almost wish there were no playoffs – best record in the NL goes to the WS.
Not since ’68…
That really is the way it should be, but that ain’t happening again. Too much $$ to made in the playoffs.
Norm McDonald dead at 61 – cancer…
RIP Turd Ferguson This one hurts alot 😢
Hey flappers, I know I’ve been gone for a while. Did I miss anything?
Stick around for the pennant race, Sarge!
for sure Loo!

That’s too bad. Love Norm McDonald. He’s in my wheelhouse for sardonic off-putting wit. No one I knew liked his Weekend Update stuff on SNL but I loved it.
Speaking of baseball and doughnuts:
https://www.mlb.com/video/mccann-has-trouble-with-his-bat
Fun fact:
The weighted donut for baseball bats was invented by Elston Howard…
Does Logan Webb resemble any of these Jujy Fruits?

Jake Arrieta seriously? The Giants lit him up last time and they will light him up again. Why is this bum still even pitching? They torched Davish now add more gasoline in their rotation..
LaStupid baserunning.
LaStella runs like a girl…
Or waddling like a duck.
Yes, better description…
One of few real duties of 1b coach==let the guy know he’s gotta slide.
Bombs away right away on this guy.
Buster bomb!
First inning thunder again!
Posey says I’ll take some of that slop from Arrieta for my 18th HR!
Should of been a 2 run bomb except for some stupid base running by LaStella..
Lineup looks like best defensive one available. Disco has had great groundball stats of 44% this year and low BA .225. ERA going in 3.31.
Only signed for $6 mil too.
I might lean toward Longo at 3B over Bryant.
yes good call. maybe more athletic but Bryant’s throwing issues hopefully don’t come into play.
Game wouldn’t be complete without the Loo metrics wind swirling report..
pfftt
Duggar your killing me taking strike 3 all the time!
It’s fuckin exasperating…
Don’t worry, James says over time Duggar will be better off and more productive by taking the close pitches into a base on balls…
Wasn’t even that close…
last pitch was strike. gotta make contact
or at least an effort. Only his second start in 5 games since Coors…might want to make a good impression before Solano and Dickerson get activated.
Grave Duggar killed that inning…
The fucking pitcher is next, Duggar. WTF are you doing?
Yes he looked gravely overmatched against a bum like Arrieta.
Mr.Take 3 might get some momentum for another nickname..
That was a weird out.
Errieta.
Flavor’s gonna ban us, Mac…
Arri-error!
RTI (run thrown in) Giants by Arrietta. Thanks !
Giants not averse to doing some dumbasz baserunning now and again. That, and frustratingly on a regular irregular occasion not getting a man in from second on a base knock into the outfield…
Bryant is starting to show some inklings of Steve Sax syndrome at third.
Unless he has something physically wrong with his arm, hand, wrist, etc.
Not good for an infielder…
yeah see Mac above, re Longo over Bryant.
Yeah, take off the “might.”
Good call, Mac…
The homeplate ump is huge.
Latest Bryant wild throw doesn’t cost ’em.
He’s not right physically. Something going on there.
Do you know that definitively? For throwing a ball high?
“The outcomes I really dread are a loss in the WC or a lopsided elimination in the NLDS. The chorus of naysayers will be insufferable, ready to diminish the results from 162 games with driveling, cliched nonsense.”
Well, playoff losses in all sports do have a way of clarifying and identifying weaknesses.
This Bryant shit is getting old. No power and a scattershot arm. WTF?
He missed a HR by 2 ft tops Chuck the power I’m not worried about but yeah the nonchalant throws are worrisome..
I remember the 14 game winning streak in September of 1965.
Still wasn’t good enough.
I think LA responded by winning like 11 in a row themselves…
Betcha T-Bone buzzes someone soon…
Alright, LaStella makes up for 1st-inning gaffe.
They really should of gotten more runs off of Arietta but I’ll just call it residue effects off their hangovers from clinching last night..
Here come the Cards: Blew a lead in the 9th, got out of a big-time jam in the 10th, and now have scored 3 in the 11th to take a 7-4 lead over the Mets.
Yet they could do nothing close to that when playing the bums….
They got a 2-2 split, that’s about as good as it gets these days vs. Bums.
The way the bums are going, you’re right Mac.
Kap’s not making his usual L-R matchups, maybe he’s still hungover.
Now we got one.
Do they know the pitcher is on deck?
Let’s see an updated wind flow chart…
Duggar might need that wind flow chart update
GD making it interesting….
Kruk blaming the ballpark for GD’s brush with disaster.
Ridiculous…
Homerism at its finest….
What bugs me a lot about Captain Obvious Krukow is when he always says well this pitcher has 4 pitches that are outstanding and then they show his ERA over 6.00 and hitters are both LH are RH hitting over .300 against them,
RUF! Add on!
From rough Bryant AB to Ruf RBI AB,
There you go!!! Ruf Ruf Ruf!!!
To another Rough AB by GD
At least he swung
The Town Car is warming up in the parking lot…
If Bryant’s agent went to the Giants today and said we’ll sign today for 7/250 would you do it?
Never mind, Boras doesn’t do that does he?
