In a perfect world, Gasman rediscovers his early season dominance, SD rediscovers their choking ways and Urias gets blown up in Nepal.

Now, how much of that will actually happen? Stay tuned.

Here we go, baby. Both we and the bums have 12 to play. One more off day next Monday. One game lead for our Gigantes. It is going to be a crazy 13 daze…

    Let’s Roll! Go Giants!

Dogs spent a while in 2nd place trying to unseat Giants. Then they caught them, only to fall behind again and they’re still playing catch up.
Happens in b-ball games, where a team gets behind and has to expend all its energy rest of the game to catch up and try to get lead, but it never happens.

Giants need to get on another roll starting tonight. They are beyond overdue for another NL West title, not to mention the benefits it would give them in the playoffs. I’m sick of hearing about how many times in a row the Dodgers have won the division. I’m trying to keep a level head about all of this and temper my expectations.

I fully expect the Padres to give the Giants all they can handle, so it’s just one game at a time right now.

    On that note, GO GIANTS!

No worries here, our Over the Hill Gang and the Reject Dogs are going to keep doing what got them here.
Hit em to the left, hit em to the right, hit em over the centerfield wall.

As the baseball elites, the know-it-alls and those who frankly look to praise and glorify the high earners continue to scratch their heads to how on this earth the Giants achieved their current position, they only need to see how the definition of ‘chemistry’ so easily applies. It’s no theory and the same dumb look and WTF head scratching were there in ’10,’12 and ’14 .
Anyone looking for the opposite, the toxic environment, the self-serving attitude that never can be a winning solution can look no further than SD.
So, whatever the path leads for these guys this post season, I will put it down as a success story.

Great story in San Jose Merc by Kerry Crowley on low A SJ Giants, who are in playoff for league title. Pitching was good, they hit lot of HRs, well managed by vet Lenn Sakata, and most of the top prospects did great. Includes Jairo Pomares, Luis Matos, pitchers Kyle Harrison and 2 others who led entire league in ERA. Nice rebound too for Patrick Bailey who got bat going after being sent there from High A Eugene.

I think Zman has a philosophy of patterning the Giants system after the Tampa Devil Rays organization of success starting with the farm system ( now close to top 10) and making tremendous value signings on the cheap that have all paid off.And even better they have much better revenue then a lot of teams with his handling of the luxury cap..

Not relevant now but I was thinking that next year’s team probably won’t be very different from this year’s and I don’t expect Bryant to be back.

        You’re right.
        I don’t.
Would be a shame to have it all go down the drain in one lousy WC game.
        They can’t let that happen.
If they end up in the WC game, they absolutely have to win it or the season will be remembered almost exactly like 1993…

    • Locojuan's avatar Bozo said, on September 21, 2021 at 10:57 am

Could be, but If that’s true Farhan has a whole lot of signing to do. I don’t think any of the SP are under contract for 2022, I could also see Belt, Solano and Flores testing the FA waters (I could see Belt signing with Houston to stay closer to home). Also, I think there is a whole bunch of Arb guys (9?) that’ll be wanting bumps next year. One thing is for sure, it’ll be a busy offseason for SF even to just stay the same.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 21, 2021 at 11:48 am

I think Bryant will be back. In an article I read yesterday in The Athletic, it was said that Bryant has expressed interest in playing in SF long-term: “Bryant won’t come cheap, but his market might be a bit narrower. And he’s already signaled that he’d love to re-sign and play long-term in San Francisco.”

I do not expect Solano back, and expect Estrada to slot into that spot on the roster.

      • Locojuan's avatar Bozo said, on September 21, 2021 at 12:00 pm

They have La Stella signed for a couple more years. He goes from $2 mil this year to $5.3 next year and $11.5 in 2023, so I imagine he’ll be part of the plan at 2nd.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 21, 2021 at 12:05 pm

        Yeah, I like Estrada’s upside.
Kid can play, lots of energy, better D than Solano…

  21. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 21, 2021 at 10:42 am

    Whither Dickerson?
Giants probably have a good case for him not to come back the rest of the season. Not hitting well when he got hurt, a below average OF defender, slow. I’d rather keep Duggar for another LHed OFer, by far…

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 21, 2021 at 10:52 am

      Agree.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 21, 2021 at 11:03 am

since Giants went back to playing at sea level, GD is 2-17 with 1 HR. He is best defensive CF, granted but very streaky hitter. On good side, Giants are going back to Coors end of week for 3 more, where he had 6 hits in 3 games.
Dickerson I doubt survives to make club next year with incoming OFs from Sac. If Giants don’t get Bryant back I’d imagine they try and bolster OF offense in trade or FA market.

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on September 21, 2021 at 11:15 am

  25. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 21, 2021 at 1:17 pm

Who would you bring back next season for the OF?
For me: Wade, Yaz, Bryant (plays LF when not 3rd), with Ruf as a maybe platoon OF and 1B.
The rest can take a walk, and let’s see who can be brought in and / or up. Duggar and Slater are just way too inconsistent hitters for OF position players. Dickerson has no upside, he gone…

  26. Giant Head's avatar Giant Head said, on September 21, 2021 at 1:19 pm

Are Flappers thinking KB’s market is in the 5 years $125 mill range? I think it will be and think we sign him at those numbers. Still would like to kick the tires on Semien as a super utility starter next year and SS after that and $125 mill for 5 also would be likely his market value…we’ve got a lot of money to spend and still think even if Gausman is back we dumpster dive for a couple more starters and Webb and DeScl back on a reasonable deal.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on September 21, 2021 at 1:34 pm

I think you’re underestimating Boras as well as the pressure on the Mets ownership that has billions to throw around. Giants might offer 6/200, but he’ll probably get 8/275 from the Amazins…

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 21, 2021 at 1:41 pm

Could be true, but Bryant has said that Boras works for him, and he will call the shots on the contract.

      • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on September 21, 2021 at 1:43 pm

Frankly, at those prices they can have him as far as I’m concerned. He’s a good player but his defense has been terrible lately and he’s not hitting much either. $200M? $275M? Pass.

What they need out of Kris Bryant while they have him is for him to start hitting the shit out of the ball these last 12 games.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 21, 2021 at 2:51 pm

        Agree totally with LJ.
Those years and numbers are numbskull ownership/GM numbers, which sounds right for the Mets.
He’ll be 30 and is a very good player, but from what I’ve seen so far, unless he’s hurt, he’s not worth close to that, especially given how Farhan rolls.
SF doesn’t have sucker management, regardless how thick Boras’ submission binder is on his client…

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 21, 2021 at 3:14 pm

Actually, Bryant’s numbers have been pretty good while here:

Through Sunday he had reached base in 18 consecutive games. He is hitting .285 with 11 doubles, seven HRs and an .875 OPS in 144 ABs.

From the same article (Baggarly on The Athletic), Kap talked about the defense and said that given Bryant’s flexibility in the line-up, and the way he can extend a line-up, they will live with it (and said the same is true of others who play multiple positions, such as Flores, Solano, LaStella).

There is not a player out there who fits the Giants needs the way Bryant does, IMO. I say giddy the fuck-up and sign Bryant. All Day. Every Day. And Twice on Sundays.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 21, 2021 at 3:08 pm

I think Giants won’t pay for a SS like Semien. They just re-upped Craw through 2023, and it looks to me like they’ve got Luciano pegged to be ready maybe by mid-2023 if he progresses well, ready to take that SS position when Craw’s time is done. How Will Wilson at AA this season fits in, IDK.
I heard Pat the Bat on KNBR earlier today. He’s now roving hitting instructor. He commented that Matos was his favorite minor league hitter, seemed to say he had the highest ceiling, and already has a great swing that you just want to get more experience and “not screw it up”. He’s 20, and needs to learn not to chase so much, though per Pat, that is tough as the kid can hit a ball almost anywhere it’s pitched, ala Panda…

I think the Giants are more than happy with Estrada playing a super utility role SS/2B/3B/LF until Lucky Luciano starts showing more advancements. If anything Ramos should be in the mix next year first.

I still want Bryant back. The powers there lock in 25-30 bombs/ his speed had me surprised much faster then I thought, and the versatility of playing many positions when u know some of the older players will breakdown next year. They still have one of the oldest roster in baseball..
Getting traded mid season , lots of distractions go on.After the season when things settle down, Bryant and his wife will will have the most input not Borass on what they will do…

    • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John said, on September 21, 2021 at 4:27 pm

I wouldn’t mind him coming back, but not at the prices and times mentioned above. The Giants have been burned by that kind of deal before, more than once. I’m sure the Giants will give it a go, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he walks. Why wouldn’t he take the biggest chunk of change? Most people would.

Bryant would also serve as everyday OF if Giants and Belt didn’t come to an agreement. Btw Wade Jr and Flores to handle 1b platoon and Ruf as primary RH DH candidate, not a lot else going on out there as Snarkk said above.
Read opinions of others saying Belt’s knee, which he injured 3 years ago, unlikely to hold up. Given production from Wade Jr and Ruf, only thing missing would be the D. Not like SF folded without him this season either.

I don’t think Luciano is ready by middle of ‘23 and maybe Semien is a back-up plan to not signing KB. I could see Semien playing second and spelling Crawford against lefties and see if Crawford has a repeat of this year otherwise Semien maybe more full time SS in ‘23. T-Bone is the new Vogelsong same determined face that burn thru opponents eyes and u need that dude in your rotation along with Gausman. You have Webb as well who’s the new ace to come, so just filling out 2 starters atleast one a lefty maybe 2..

Kruk going on and on about doing damage and they don’t do shit. There’s nothing wrong with changing your approach based on the count.

Machado seems to like that pitch a lot.

  62. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on September 21, 2021 at 8:18 pm

Not a good sign when Gausman is more valuable as a batter than a pitcher of late.

Keep hanging that shit gasman. Way to suck when we need you

another piece I saw on Treinen noted that the dodgers never reached the mlb 85% vax threshold for relaxed clampdown reqs. I think the Giants did meet that mark, early on — lotta good it did. I bet the % of bizarre, wacked out mlb players and coaches is a lot higher than 15.
