I Love Lamonte Wade Jr.
The most important thing you need to be able to do in life, if you want to get better at living, is to admit when you’re wrong. As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to celebrate it. Let’s take a look back at February 5th, shall we?

Now before you all line up to jizz on Big Flavor’s grave, relax, don’t do it, when you want to…..gloat?
We were all wrong, go read the thread below.
Lamonte Wade Jr. is Andres Torres without the adderall. He’s Marco Scutaro without the post season batting average. He’s Cody Ross without the bat flip. He’s all of Zaidi’s genius rolled into one glorious man.
And he’s ours. He’s all ours….
That 9th inning at bat was the first thing in my tv this morning as fox sports was replaying the game. Half asleep with no glasses on watching that ball drop and Belt looked like he was going to be out and then called safe because in my myopia did not see the ball get kicked loose…
Great post, flavor. One day you may look back at September 21st and also admit you are all wrong about my proposed new MLB rule allowing a moonshot, 5 second pop fly to be considered an HR.
Ha, nice thread. Loo in February 5 at 5:02 calling healthy Buster with shot at 15 HRs, amazing.
I’m more impressed with Loo pulling Kingman’s cycle with four different teams fact off the top of his head. lol Gausman’s struggles are concerning for me. Outside of Webb, the starting pitching hasn’t been very good lately. It looks like the Giants are going to have to win 9 of these last 11 to take the division. The fucking Dodgers just won’t lose.
Yaz just can’t get on a roll this season.
Been steady .220 hitter for most of the year.
Peaked at .240 in mid July…
Very good defense and a lot of homers, but they sure could use a sustained streak from Yaz right about now.
Obviously a helluva a win from the team that refuses to quit. This magical season continues.
Nice work from pen too, 3 shutout innings after Littell.
Stix posts in old thread, good stuff. Hope he’s enjoying season and gets chance to check back in here.
yes, Pasalon, let’s revisit that idea you had last night and let the blog judge: Pasalon suggested the following rule change: if you hit a fly ball and it lasts in the air for at least 5 seconds it is an automatic home run.
Still think this is J-bat, Loo?
I think LJ is J-Bat, Flavor…
Is Stix doing alright? He was back.
Last I heard (this via xoot) he was working to get his digs back in order.
Thanks Chi. The guy has been through a lot the last few years.
Well, I was not in on that thread, but I do remember being critical of Wade when he was first brought onboard. Well, I will be the first in line to eat my words.
What a fucking crazy amazing game. And this team does this shit ALL THE TIME. It is fucking insane. I love it!
Hold onto your hats…Kazmir on the bump tonight.
The thing about Wade is that he looks legit to me, not just a flash in the pan. Of course, the wheels could come off next year, happens all the time in baseball, but right now you have to wonder how the Twins missed the boat so badly. They didn’t see any of this?
Good Post, I was wrong on just about everything at the beginning of the year.
This article is from a month ago, but if you haven’t already read it, might want to check it out on how Wade worked on his hitting this offseason. Pretty cool stuff on the kid.
https://www.mlb.com/news/lamonte-wade-jr-breaking-out-after-training-with-college-coach
as Mac said, Pads sure play SF harder than they do LA. They battled through long ABs, hit deep drives even for outs, Musgrove got 2 hits. Nola his 2nd HR all season…
Props to their fans for showing up to their end season demise too. I realize Giants fans were there like always, but still, don’t think first place Giants drew 36 thou last week during home games.
Great for Rogers to pitch around error and get save.
Kap let Wade hit vs. lefty Hill with a runner on 2nd and 1 out in the 7th, a situation he almost always puts in a pinch-hitter, likely Ruf. Maybe Kap knows he’s gotta have Wade in there for the 9th no matter what.
yeah noticed that. No more Slater hitting for him and taking him out of lineup early.
Number down to 11. was part of Richard Pryor routine, where his Dad told him, “…be home by 11. And bring me a paper.” only nothing in hood ever started til 11:30.
I’m still in on making Bryant an offer he can’t refuse. As for rallies, his double started the comeback from 4-1 hole they were in. He’s legit every day player, and narrows talent gap with LA lineup. More time in OF at the O I think he’d look better out there; RF and triples alley is very unique place to play.
He’s also playing on one of few teams that are gonna win 100 games and have legit shot at a ring, and he’s younger than BCs. Other than Wade Jr., not a younger/better hitter on team so he can be bridge to Luciano et al.
Wade has the swagger theirs just no denying it, the moment is never to big with him.He has ice in his veins every at bat, a certain calmness that breeds success in clutch situations.LaNinth is a rad nickname for this guy,
12for19 batting 11 RBI’s 1.579 OPS in the ninth innings?? Whoever other big league player has ever put up those numbers in the clutch 9th inning of a game?
Oh FYI … LaNinth Wade jr now has driven in a game winner in the ninth against every Western Division Rival another incredible stat from Mr.Clutch..
Great quote from Wade: “Hopefully it can be Early Game LaMonte at some point,” Wade said. “But if it’s going to be Late Night, it’s Late Night.”
Also, this really was a team win as far as the hitting goes. Everyone in the lineup either scored a run or had an RBI, or did both. Yes, even Bryant, although that DP in the 9th was a downer for sure.
speaking of “crowds”, for second night in a row the A’s drew 4000 to watch them implode vs. Mariners again. yikes
That is a yikes. 4,000? Hard to believe these days. Sounds like a mid-’70’s Giants’ game. lol
ha yeah remember attending some mid week freezing night games like that, 80s too.
4068 listed crowd at Coliseum Monday, Tuesday I think was 4400.
Proving they have the worst fans in baseball
Flav, I don’t know what your question to Loo is referencing but, unless there was another user who used the same name, I was JBat in the first years I participated in the blog. It’s just a play on my name.
One of you guys came up with the moniker Lurker John and I liked it, so I’ve been using it ever since.
Lol.mystery solved!
Betts was in CF (Bellinger to IL) for Dogs last night, with corner OFs hitting at bottom of order Lux and Raley. Rox got 4 runs off Urias in 6 innings too.
Maybe they have some success vs. Buehler tonight.
KNBR crew said this morning that Rockies late in game were batting guys that they never heard of before, with OPS somewhere in the .400-.500 range. Maybe they’ve waived the white flag and are pulling up guys from AAA for a look see. If so, a Rockies win against LA could be a dream…
I don’t think it was as bad as they made it out to be. The Rocks have 14 hitters on their roster and they used 13 of them (only the backup catcher was left on the bench). I didn’t watch the game but the box score doesn’t look like a tank job to me, they just were using everyone they had.
Dodgers lose tonight.
Agree completely with Willie’s 8:23 on Bryant. All the players on this team have struggled at one point or another when in the clutch. The guy is going to bring you 25-30 HRs and his ability to hit up and down the line-up and in four or five positions is huge. Regarding his D, Kap even said as much in an article on The Athletic that Bryant’s D, esp OF, would improve the more he played here.
I’m all in on Bryant, up to the point of a contract being ridiculous. Giants need SPs next season, they’ll need a bunch of that big freed budget to secure those. I’m not seeing a ton of stellar SP arms in AAA or AA busting down doors with cheap talent to get to Oracle next season…
I agree, but they are going to need someone of Bryant’s caliber, and I think he is the best fit.
I trust Z and team to make the right decisions on personnel and finances, etc.
Don’t get me wrong, despite his small sample of mediocrity here, I absolutely want him signed.
We need him and I’m sure he’ll be better when he’s more settled.
Just think we’re gonna get badly outbid…
That sucks.
They should be honoring the race.
No shit. Professional pride, ethics, whatever.
Gausman is a problem.
Last night his split was behaving like hit me cookies. Guys were hitting rockets, in and out of the park.
This Giants team is amazing, but I don’t see how they can get through post season series with a starting rotation of Webb and TBD. They did that in 2014 successfully, but Webb was Bum then…
Woods can get his stamina back and DeScaffolding has been decent enough. Webb is definitely the #1 at this point. Gasman can be the 2 or 3. The hope is he finds his mojo down the stretch.
We have 4 10 game winners, which frankly is astounding to me.
Speaking of astounding, it’s the 50th anniversary of the Orioles having 4 twenty game winners.
A very common trivia question.
Only one of them trips people up…
Cuellar, Palmer, McNally and . . . . . Buehler? . . . . . . . Buehler? . . . . . . Buehler?
Good points, Charlie.
If dreams and wishes were loaves and fishes, uh, we’d all eat for free.
Rox had most of regulars in there last night–Hampson Story Blackmon Cron (who killed them) McMahon, one of their catchers Diaz, plus they used Tapia and Hilliard to PH off bench. Just couldn’t score manfred runner in 10th, when they didn’t have guys left. I don’t think Black would go with chump change lineup and tank games that have meaning for others.
Agree. Looking at the boxscore, that’s how I took it.
Lost in all the craziness was the near heroism of the Grave Duggar (A.K.A: Take 3, Mr. Shit)…
Horseshoes and hand grenades . . .
So does Wade have an official nickname here?
I guess we’ll just see if anything sticks.
I thought of one that is so dreadfully bad, I’ll bury it somewhere when I think no one is looking…
LaBomba
KNBR is touting LateNight and LaNinth (from Krukow)…
Those are fine for the masses, but in our little world here, I’m partial to original silliness.
Who can forget Kat’s epic creation of “Krispy Kratz”?
Smokey
Clown – Nice share on the Wade article. Thanks…good read. Farhan working his magic again…
Yep, that 2 hour round trip drive to practice hitting shows ya how dedicated Wade is. Not sure if he’ll ever be considered a great player, but I bet he has a solid ML career.
Dickerson 3-4 yesterday for Sac 2 doubles and HR.
Vince Velasquez listed as SP tonight. In his debut for them after being waived by Phils he went 4 innings gave up 4 hits 4 runs.
interesting. never heard that before.
From Song Facts:
“The Doors recorded this [song] months before the other songs on LA Woman. It was intended for the movie Zabriskie Point by Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni. He rejected the song so The Doors put it on the album.”
LA Woman side 2 has this and a few other more obscure songs that didn’t see much airplay. Plus, Riders on the Storm…
1. T. La Stella (L) 2B
2. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) RF
5. Kris Bryant (R) LF
6. B. Crawford (L) SS
7. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
8. M. Yastrzemski (L) CF
9. Scott Kazmir (L) P
Shit, should I play Kashmir by Zepp? Will we get 3 innings out of Scottie?
Maybe they should see if the Big Unit is available this weekend — just DFA somebody to make room on the 40…
this is very very cool
That is flat awesome. Love that shit.
My first game was in 1968 at Wrigley. I was 7 and just about to start 2nd grade. Marichal vs Ken Holtzman. Amazing this stuff is out there. Coulda sworn McCovey hit a home run that day, but it was Jack Hiatt. Story was, my folks took the older kids to Europe. My sister (10 at the time) and I got to go stay with the cousins. In Chicago. In Late August. For 3 weeks.
Brutally hot, and no one had AC back then. We stayed with Uncle Charlie on my dad’s side (he’s 94), we stayed with Uncle Chuck on my mom’s side (the cool one who took me to Wrigley. He’s 92), and my grandfather (Papa) on my dad’s side.
https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN196809021.shtml
Honest mistake, Chuck.
The resemblance to McCovey is uncanny…
Me poor Bairns ! …
Great Scotty compilation!
Too bad that YouTuber never did post the one for seasons 2 & 3. I really enjoyed the first one.
That is awesome, Flav. Talk about coming full circle…
Bass Baldy was right about Duvall and I was very wrong. There. I said it.
5 runs for Rox KOs Buehler in 4th
Still batting leading 5-3…
Giants are on ESPN if that helps anybody…
Wow, slapping ol’ Buehler around again. I fucking love it. They’ll probably need 15 runs to win that game. Buehler slumping heading into the playoffs would be a glorious thing.
Hackman is 66 today. Went to Overbrook HS in Philly, same as Wilt.
One of my all-time favorite G’s.
Same Bday as Renel, the PA announcer at Oracle…
The Mets are playing the Banana Slugs?
Ha! I always hated that mascot, although the slugs themselves as you chanced across them on the paths under the redwoods were pretty impressive. Then Taranatino’s character pulled a Banana Slug t-shirt out of the closet and made Travolta wear it through the end of the movie, and I made my peace with it.
Yep, I’ve been slimed. 🙂
“Orange October” tees available at Breaking T. I may just have to fully geek out and pick one up.

I think I just saw Brian Laundrie in the first row behind the Giants on deck circle.
Could his parents have lied about where he went?
Hey hey, got a rally brewing in the 1st …
Those Red Sox unis are hideous.
It’s their “city connect” uniforms.
The city they’re connecting with appears to be Beijing…
Guess who also has the bases loaded and nobody out?
Hey Lamont, how about an early bird special?
I’ve never seen anyone swing later on a pitch…
Yet another hit into the OF with man on second and they don’t score. There must be a stat on this, I wonder how the Giants fare on that vs. league?…
Wade early Wade often.
At least they have the pitch count going up…
OY, Wade. Somebody should have said it was the 9th inning.
OK, Bryant. Time to earn your keep…
done. 3-0 Giants
swung at ball 5 there.
Dogs tied game up, 5-5.
Tied up in Nepal…
Oh yeah.
There it is!!!
Nice easy swing to the gap
That’s a big hit.
Finally!
Yeah baby, 3 RBIs and Bryant swinging for the contract ! …
Yeah, that fucking Bryant…always choking in the clutch. 😂
Bryant is hitting .283 with 7 HRs while a Giant, per Miller. Pretty much along the lines of Cubs results.
Doesn’t seem that good to me so far, for some reason. That double helps.
That’s probably got him up to 6 years and $220 million now…
which would be $100 mil less than the 2 guys playing SS and 3b for Padres who were in each others faces.
OK look at it this way–take Bryant out of the Giants OF, and what do you have? An entire group of platoon players except for Wade. And in Sac, there is Dubon Davis Ramos Dickerson (for now) McCarthy yada yada.
ESPN broadcast team consists of a man with a lisp and a woman who absolutely refuses to STFU for a second…
That has to be Jessica Mendoza. Can’t stand her and you’re right, she never stops talking.
Dave Flemming knows how to work with Mendoza. He makes her good. It’s amazing.
It’s Doug Glanville and Melanie or Millie something…
Rox rallying again…
Got 1 run back.
Amidst all her chatter, ESPN announcer said Bryant now has a 10-game hitting streak. Hard to believe, but it’s correct.
Cool story Chuck, and thanks for boxscore, fun game to go to, lot of HOFs btw both teams that day. Except for 5 ABs, 1968 was last season Cubs 1b Dick Nen ever played, father of giants great Robb. Nen
Yaz can’t seem to layoff high pitches, regardless of type.
I assume they’re working on that with him…
They are.
Next AB he’s going to stand on a milk crate…
