Better Than Everyone Else
Between the dreaded Cardinals winning 17 in a row (and counting) and SF and LA on their way to 106–108 wins each, I’m not sure if the National League could put on a more dominating show. It has become accepted around these parts that the Giants need to win-out. Just to be sure. The way this season has gone I don’t expect anything less…..
Winning 4 out of 5 will do. 🙂
Cards clinched WC, only spot remaining in NL is East division, and phils hanging by thread.
Meanwhile, M’s dumped A’s again and are only half game behind BoSox for last spot.
Wade 0-2 (after 0-12 at Coors) and costly error, bailed out by Wilmet at 1b.
Good for Doval, but…while sliders do work alongside electric fastball, hanging ones do not (rocket off CF fence) and you hate to see a guy get beat with his second best pitch.
DBax extended mgr. Lovulo, who obviously is not the problem over there.
28 thou at the O last night ouch.
I officially predict the Flodgers will lose tomorrow. Can we win the next two. If we can that will get the magic number to one and clinch at least a tie for the division. My son indicates we would have to play one game tie-break if the season ends. I thought we won the season series avoiding a potential one-game tie-break. What is the rule???
From MLB.com:
Scenario: Two teams tie for the division
Sometimes 162 is not enough to determine a division winner. That could be the case in the NL West this year, with the Giants and Dodgers keeping it close. Were they to finish in a tie, they would play a one-game tiebreaker on Monday, Oct. 4. Home-field advantage would go to San Francisco, by virtue of the Giants’ 10-9 record in the head-to-head season series, which is complete. The winner of this game would advance to the Division Series round, while the loser would host the NL Wild Card Game (both teams are far enough out in front of the rest of the pack to qualify as the top NL Wild Card).
Thanks dog and Loo
I think it just gets us home field?
fuck all that. We’re clinching on Sat when I’m in Reno with my boys.
Throw some money money 💵 on the Giants to clinch this bitch!!
Baggs had tweeted early in game how bad home plate ump was gonna look on the ump scorecard.
Btw that and AZ pitchers throwing ball all over the place (WPs) and right at few Giants hitters, had to be uncomfortable night at plate.
That said, I’m glad Kap didn’t go all LaRussa.
Yeah, this most certainly is not the time to engage in nonsense that could result in ejections/suspensions, especially to a reliever.
Giants won the season series against the Dodgers 10-9 so if they tied ( which we all hope doesn’t happen) the 1 game for the division title would be at Oracle.Clinch this title so LA has to play the red hot Cardinals!!
LaStella is benched with an achilles issue. He’s day to day.
Estrada getting x-rays on hand…
Last nights game was a mess.
You know you’re a good team when you end up winning something like that, it could have gone sideways.
Also shows why AZ is so bad. AZ just gave their manager a year’s extension…
not his fault he doesn’t have any pitching, especially once you get into pen, and is in brutal division. What does he have to work with–bunch of young inexperienced players that need to play. What I read in Athletic is players like him.
Not saying he shouldn’t have gotten extended. Just saying he did. AZ obviously is devoid of talent. Bumgarner better be enjoying his checks…
Question for those there recently–Giants check proof for vac at gate? Masks in the yard at all? For concession workers or ushers?
Not going myself, but these were some things brought up by workers who voted to strike. They had claimed Giants not protective of their health (among other grievances), and that when they had to serve customers at suites mask requirements etc. not enforced, there and elsewhere.
Stanford gm sat was a total shit show. They had ONE tent checking everyone’s vax card
10 checkers but one fucking tent. 45 late to the game starting
Nobody checked us that I recall I can’t remember tho for certain
Talking bout flapalooza
They check at the gate, but that’s about it. Mask mandate not necessarily enforced, really depends on which usher you encounter and how much they feel like being bothered.
It is nonsensical to me that the post season rules generate this situation where either the Giants or LA go to the WC game and then win it against STL, they go right back to play the Giants or LA in that side of the NLDS, despite both teams having the best records in the NL. Under those circumstances, each of them should play the other division winners, so that it is possible that the top two winners in the NL meet in the NLCS. The way this works out to possibly have one of the top two winners in the NL kicked out of the post season early at the NLDS level is just stoooopid…
Beyond stupid
MLB got greedy and added an additional wild card.
I’m pretty sure the wild card concept was hatched because of the 1993 season and the Giants not making it in with 103 wins. In 94 MLB made each league 3 Divisions and added the wild card, to not only even out the playoffs but also so there wouldn’t be a team with 103 wins left out. MLB will now probably come up with something new only to refuck up what they already had fixed in 94.
Oops, MLB was supposed to be greedy fucking bastards, damn spell check.
I have always been with Loo and the wild card should be a three game series. Give the better record team the first two games at home. I don’t care if we have to play Flodgers next. We have to beat them at some point in a potential playoff if they reseeded and the idea of the first time they have faced each other since ‘62 right in a playoff game heightens to entertainment of the potential matchup.
IMO you play the full marathon season to be rewarded or rebuked for a great result in the regular season, or a bad result, respectively. So, the top two teams in wins should never ever have a chance to face each other in the NLDS, they should be seeded and have home field so that if they both win in the NLDS, the two best face off in the NLCS. Best against 2nd best, not best against 4th best. Divisions be damned…
Football, baseball, basketball, and hockey all have it wrong. Once the season is over, the top 5 teams or 15 in b-ball’s case) should be seeded by record. Not division win. All you do is give a huge advantage to a team like the Braves.
We lead the Braves by 19 games and they could very well get seeded above us.
Ludicrous.
Soccer is fucking stupid, but I think they do their seeding like that.
Then what would be the purpose of having divisions?
There’s gotta be a better way…
Otherwise, just have to accept that there will be seasons when your team gets screwed as well as seasons when they benefit from it. At the very least, the WC playoff should be best 2 out of 3. A single elimination game after a 162 game season is absurd…
This is pretty cool. Found this in a box of stuff.
Looks like he weighed about 155 pounds…
And this article called Playing a New Tune. About athletes who were musicians.
Happy Birthday, Flan.
Earlier this year he almost died from that staph infection.
There has to be a money reason for the non-seeding method in post season. Geographical ratings, time zones, whatever. But, I don’t see how a Braves/Giants or Brewers/LA NLCS would draw better national ratings than an SF/LA NLCS…
In the bar last week, most of the Yankee fans were far more interested in looking at their phones and/or whatever bets they had on the football game going on at the same time…
Ah, organist Dr. Lonnie Smith died in Florida. Saw him early 70s at Keystone SF with guitarist George Benson in small group setting. Organ/guitar/sax combos were a thing for awhile, especially after Jimmy Smith had some hits. Good music.
Benson was one helluva player too before all the vocals took up half and more of a show. Had a 1976 CTI LP of him and Joe Farrell together (made to look like cig pack benson and hedges), fabulous version of Old Devil Moon with tremendous solo on out chorus.
Damn. That’s too bad. Saw Lonnie Smith play with Buddy Guy and Lonnie’s son at Buddy’s club in Chicago.
Friend got married in northern Indiana and we took Chicago by storm one night in 1993.
I don’t advocate beanball wars and I don’t want to see anyone get hurt.
I just think someone needs to get knocked on their ass tonight.
Our hitters are being abused and injured.
Someone should stand up for them.
It’s always been that way…
Wood’s always good for a back foot slider is that good enough?
I’d like a kneecap…
We’re too close to the postseason to even sniff getting anyone tossed. Unless they bring in Brebbia as the designated fall guy.
Then I’m all for it!!
1. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) RF
2. Kris Bryant (R) LF
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
5. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
6. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
7. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
8. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
9. Alex Wood (R) P
Wade’s looking bad at the plate in recent games (0-15/ 5K’s).
Why not sit him in favor of the Grave Duggar whose been decent of late?
Would it kill Kotter to let him lead off one lousy game?
He’s the fastest guy on the team and gets his share of walks…
mm decent at Coors, sure. He’s 8-20 there this month, with some power. Overall 11-46, .239 in September with
OBP .314.
at sea level, he’s 3-17 lately with 1 bomb in SD. I really think it’s lack of HR power compared to Wade and Yaz.
And maybe it’s not all Kap’s call either.
Ever watch him at plate? he looks so languid and does everything at such a slow sedate pace–the way he moves in and out the box after every pitch, adjusts the velcro, yada yada.
To me, it’s more about giving Wade a blow than getting GD in the lineup.
There’s always a chance for late game heroics…
nothing wrong with that either. Wade seems overanxious at plate, chasing pitches he can’t handle like high fastball. Bum goes tomorrow and Ruf is eligible to be back so RH guys take over for as long as Bum is around.
If I was there at yard, I’d sure stand up and applaud the guy at right moment. As a Giant what he did in 2014 is not to be forgotten.
“If I’m a young hitter I would watch him play”
Bruce Bochy talking about LaMonte Wade Jr.
He doesn’t give that praise to the GraveDuggar..
Of all the players in the world, Wade is the one Vichy is advising young hitters to watch?
I’m letting auto correct have it’s way with the name of our former manager…
Bochy’s heritage is French (I think), and he was actually born there due to father being in US military stationed there.
But, he probably wouldn’t like to be associated with the name of the Nazi-collaborating French government in WWII…
In KotterWorld GraveDuggar will always just be a placemat. He gets less respect then the ball dudes, batboy, and Rodney Dangerfield.Hell I bet Murphy sends his laundry out last for cleaning..
that’s stupid. It’s got zero to do with *respect*. Grave Duggar brings a specific skill set to the team. Kap has used him pretty effectively so far.
Andrew Baggarly (@extrabaggs) · Twitter
I think I posted this wrong.
Seems to be some kind of endless scroll.
I don’t know much about Twitter.
If it’s annoying, just delete it…
It’s OK. It was cool reading the other tweets.
Brisbee is a goof. No comparison to Baggs. Both cover Giants for Athletic, but I don’t even bother to read Brisbee any more. MCC is OK site now that he’s outta there and they have minor league boxes all season.
Both Yaz and Wade are chasing high pitches. Yaz pretty much for a couple of months, Wade lately. Obviously, the league has seen something in the Wade videos, and is running with it until he adjusts.
Like most LHBs, they like the ball down low. I’m sure the hitting coaches are working with them to lay off the high crap so they see more balls in the low zone in a batter friendly count. Not so much success yet with Yaz, but Wade TBD…
Although it was good to see Yaz actually handle one of those last night and yank it really well…
always been a tough pitch for Belt and Craw to handle too fwiw.
Idiot.
Now he’s out for the Brewer series v. LA.
https://www.mlb.com/news/devin-williams-right-hand-fracture
Wow- in a sport with a history of really stupid injuries, that will rank high on the list.
I’m going to celebrate winning the division by putting my pitching hand through a wall !
Yahooooo ! …
Yeah that will qualify for DOYA!!
Dumbshit
OF
Year
Award
You bust up your hand drinking to much and punch a wall with your pitching hand
less then a week before the playoffs?? Brewers should seriously fine his ass after the organization calms down after screaming at him, liked to have been a fly on the wall in that conversation..
Someone didn’t heed Crash Davis’ advice to Nuke LaLoosh. Never punch with your pitching hand.
Loo is right. Time for some payback.
Agree this is BS!!
What’d I miss? Another plunking?
OMG — a successful sac bunt ! …
Wade has hit an iceberg at the plate…
There you go. Is that what you want?
Not me.
RU talking about Wood’s sac bunt?
No. Woods drilling the d bag
He barely nicked him!
4-0 LA over Pads in the first inning.
Seems we’ve heard that before; a lot.
Scherzer going for LA. Game over.
Pads better roll over to Giants this weekend…
Nice!!!
God hates the Padres
Well, SF knows it needs to win tonight.
Don’t expect a miracle from the Pads in LA…
I guess I’m impressed with the patience of the Padres’ ownership group to wait until the season is over before firing the manager.
Just in case there are more screaming matches in the dugout, might as well have them on the watch of the current manager…
It seems now that Flemm spends about 1/3 of his radio airtime every game just ripping on how badly the plate umpire is botching the calls…
Freaking Padres losing 4-0 after the 1st inning?
There about as helpful as finding a turd in a punch bowl, then eating it..
Trying not to be getting more frustrated with Bryant’s plate appearances.
Continues to take called strike 3s. At some point, you have to stop blaming the umps and swing the stick at the close ones, especially if the night’s ump is all over the place…
Longo needs to dongo…
Slush says Kazmir starts tomorrow, and Posey will be in lineup to face Bum.
Merrill and Madison are usually girl’s names…
Every inning all year should of been a stress inning Kruk..
They really should not be able to play down the stretch down 54 games in the standings..
Just unreal. Wilmer smoked that one.
Continuing to flail with RISP with one or fewer outs…
That’s frustrating.
Take3 syndrome is taking over the team..
Weren’t we told that it’s analytically the right thing?
Sounds like bullshit to me.
At least we didn’t leave ducks on the pond, but yet another taKe.
Another ꓘ.
Two geezers from the booth could tell he was safe but not the ump who’s right there.
Shit feed by Barrels are they get the DP..
Lucky they got the out at 2nd
Hard to believe.
I think he missed again
Huh?
At least Wood pitching well since he came back! Come on hitters!!
Didn’t even show the replay at 1st
That kinda pissed me off.
Ducking g Bryant is a big fat nothingbirger
Time for a bomberooski
Yeah, somebody needs to crank a 3 run jack.
I think they miss Ruf…
Posey finishing strong, BA over .300, on base all 3 times tonight. Just missed bomb first time up down RF line.
Giants hitters so far wasting good Wood…
Sucks with 103 wins and because of the Dogpile not going away the Giants have to keep playing guys that could use a day But you can’t every starter has to be in there no question asks..
Another E-3.
Nice job for Wood
Wood hitting?
Nothing wrong with Wood’s contribution since he got back..
No. They already said he’s gonna go 60-70 pitches.
Pads coming back off Scherzer 5-4 3 straight hits top 4.
second error of inning Pads tie it up 5-5.
Pads just tied it up 5-5!!
Fuck!!! Take take take! What in the wide wide world of sports is goin on here?
James is on the hitting coach staff now ? …
Has anybody not got caught looking tonight?
4 Ks looking so far tonight…
Machado up with 2 on. Homered earlier. put hand to his ear too as he coming into dugout.. scherzer got him tis time. 5-5.
Yeah, two games into the Belt broken bone, already two errors at 1B.
And, that’s without a bad infield fielding throw over there, yet.
Fuck that give him the 7th inning he’s dominant with a low pitch count at 74!!
Why does Kapler keep screwing with let him go!!
Don’t like the spaghetti bowl move here!
Yep I’m right 1st batter basehit!!
Because he was sick eecently
It’s a battle between the DPs and the backward Ks.
LaStarta rally? C’mon Giants!
