One. More. Win.
Well, there’s nothing new here. You want something you have to do it yourself.
I did have October 2nd circled on my calendar though:
Closing This Out

“I’m going to be in Reno on October 2 with BirdDog and Pasalon and some of my other main men from college. It would be quite sweet if we took down the division on that day….”
So while it would have been nice to finish them off yesterday, let’s make it so today. If I’ve ever been prescient about something let it be this. You have no idea how badly I want to dance on LA’s grave today….
I read a thing that said the Dodgers, since the All Star break, have played almost .700 ball and haven’t gained a single game on the Giants in that time.
Hopefully the Giants can get a win today and make tomorrow’s game a relaxed meaningless game.
The AL Wild Card is insane this weekend.
I’m guessing Boone’s job with the Yankees is on the line. Maybe the Toronto manager’s job, too.
Have fun, Flav. Bet large and win big.
On July 9 the Giants went 2 games up at 55-32. We’ve gone 51-22 since. A .700 clip.
Doggs were 54-35.They’ve gone 50-21. A .704 run.
Crazy

Pretty cool to catch a glimpse of something at the end of the video of the win: Posey at the back of the line for the end-of-game handshake thing, giving to each team mate a subtle Knowing Dude Head Nod…
Hey Paul–saw report Ho Chi Minh City ending lockdown–partial or full? Rest of country?
Last time Pads were here they managed to get split by taking last 2…cannot let that happen again.
2 divergent opinions in Athletic columns, one from Kawakami one from Brisbee as to giving post season closer job to Doval or not.
I think Brisbee makes a good point–Doval’s history has wild swings, where he’s good and bad. These include early stint with SF and in Sac. I have hard time believing Kapler won’t use McGee as long as he’s healthy and rested enough. Depth of pen a good thing and will allow Kap to manage high stress situations.
Saw a blogger on Athletic make a good point–disingenuous of announcers K n K and network to show commercial of Amy G urging Giants fans to pack the yard when NONE of them travel to any away games at all.
They aren’t telling the fans to go anywhere. They are talking about here. Kruk and Kuip have underlying health conditions that would put them at undue risk with the travel, hotel stays, etc.
Seriously?
Miller and Flemming aren’t traveling to Giants away games either nor are Estes Javy Winn yada yada. Every road game is done at O, all of them, by all involved…solely due to pandemic which isn’t over yet.
So to me it is hypocritical–come see home games without masks or a vax, but um, we’re not gonna go anywhere else because it isn’t safe.
Hotels, ground travel to and from, restaurants, and airplanes are all out of the equation for home games.
flying for a road trip is a bit different than taking an uber with the windows down to the ballpark.
they wouldn’t even go to Oakland, let alone SD or LA.
no one wants to go to the E Coli
Who wanted to wait around Giants fan?players? ,for the inevitable Dog pile win coming much later.Get the rest boys, come out and smoke the Collapsible Padres ,then party all day and all night!! The LU Sunday will be the Sacramento Rivercats, no injuries during the wild celebration ( think Devin Williams when a wall always wins over a fist)sure is nice to clinch at home maybe Baer was on to something for a rare change having them finish at home. He’s still a scumbag though…
I have my dancing shoes out, so that we can dance on the dodger grave together, Flav!
Let’s get it done today and make everything the bums have done to this point irrelevant in relation to the NL West.
1. Tommy La Stella (L) 2B
2. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) LF
3. Darin Ruf (R) 1B
4. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
5. Kris Bryant (R) 3B
6. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
7. Steven Duggar (L) CF
8. Curt Casali (R) C
9. Kevin Gausman (L) P
Let’s Roll!
Casali. Interesting. Longo gets a blow as well. He and Bryant have been the None-sy twins.
Casali in there tomorrow if Giants can clinch I’d imagine. Lot of things could be different if they win today.
Posey caught 4 straight games he needs a breather. Still available for a clutch PH if needed..
Posey asked to take the day off, according to Kapler
“disingenuous of announcers K n K and network to show commercial of Amy G urging Giants fans to pack the yard when NONE of them travel to any away games at all.”
I do agree that it’s hypocritical. Just my opinion.
but they go to the games at the yard
true but in their locked in secure booth, not surrounded by unmasked fans etc. I was surprised by what those who went earlier said about how lax O is, not checking for vax or masks.
I don’t know how they keep their ailing selves safe at the yard, but they’re there. I also don’t understand how people can mock the small crowds and then dis the team ads that try to fill the seats for the end of the season. The vax rate in the bay area is very high.
The nation just passed 700,000 dead from the virus. It so didn’t have to be this way. But a significant percentage of the U.S. population has been anti-masker and anti-vaxxer from the get-go.
A’s manager Melvin doesn’t seem to ever get much flack. The Rockies manager Black never gets much flack either. They just kind of glide along as their teams somewhat disappoint every year. Not much urgency in those two organizations.
Melvin is in his 11th season as A’s manager. That’s an amazing accomplishment for a manager whose team always fizzles at the end. A lot of ownership groups would have grown very frustrated.
Because the GM trades everyone of value away. The owners get it
Flemm at Stanford doing Oregon game.
That’s just how the A’s roll, long tenures to Melvin&Beane in a cheapskate owner ship that continually develop talented players then dump them before their big pay day is due sadly. So hard to be an A’s fan..
I have some friends that are A’s fans. They pretty much know they’re always Charlie Brown trying to kick the football Lucy is holding. I’m a Sac Kings fan, so I can relate.
Before 2010 that was pretty much a Giants fan also.
Yep.
All I gotta say is Go Giants!
The first 4 Kings games this season are Portland, Utah, Warriors, and Suns.
Yikes.
I like Gausman’s mien, so far.
Gausman showing 98 on a fastball is very impressive.
at the high inside corner of the zone! that was a perfect pitch
Why was the second base ump taking so long on that obvious tag by Crawford, just extra camera exposure time?
Flemm doing a college football game instead of a possible clinching division game for the Giants is a bit of an eye opener to me. Really? Even if he got back from Stanfoo to Oracle late in the game or post game. Up to him of course, but that’s not cool in my book at the potential culmination of an amazing season. He should have been able to pre-emptively negotiate away a possible conflict like that..
Alright Kris!
That’s what Bryant needed, start warming up for the playoffs!
RBI 1-0
That’s how you do it. Nice and easy base hit. Don’t try for too much.
Craw sets the table with a two-bagger,, the guy is nails to the very end of the season…
Looks like Father Time dealt a big blow to Kershaw, as it happens to all athletes eventually.
Unfortunate if that’s it for him, but no one can figure out how to keep pitchers healthy, young or old.
Except for Nolan
Out!
Nice!
Joe West is almost exactly one year younger than I am. Jeezus, what a fat ass. And what a sinecure he’s had.
“..they have 3 comeback victories in their last 44 games” says Pad beat writer Kevin Acee on twitter.
Yaz — criminy, the Ks just keep coming.
He’s at season 28%, which is surprising to me only a bit below 20% above the league average 24%, which doesn’t surprise me it’s so high these days.
As long as he runs into one now and again, I guess he’s good to go…
At the start of this season MLB had a restriction that no team’s media personnel were allowed to travel to away games, did that change?
I think Kruk gave up traveling with the team a few years ago. I know he couldn’t do the stairs to the booth at Wrigley back in 2016.
K & K with their pre-existing Cs are first in line for boosters and neither is up for a long plane ride, anyway. The idea that a China Basin crowd needs no mask, but the Warriors arena needs both mask and vax, seems to reflect the current recommendations. Meanwhile, a hundred police officers in San Jose refuse to get vaxxed. Good as the Bay Area has done, nothing’s perfect.
What if a SJ cop (or any cop, really, tons of them are anti-vaxxers) makes a traffic violation stop on me, so I put on my mask to deal with him/her through my car window. And, he/she demands I take off my mask. I say no, unless you show me your vaxx card. What happens?…
Well, if the cop is wearing a mask and is standing some few feet away, in the open air? I sure as shit wouldn’t want to take a ride pent up in the back of his/her car. lol.
All true, Xoot.
But what I’m questioning is, did MLB rescind their ban on team media personnel from traveling to away games?
Clarification — the hypo is that the cop is NOT masking.
If they are masking, I’m not stupid enough to gin up a contretemp with a Trumper cop over a low risk deal…
I can’t keep up with the mlb rules; I’m not sure they’re clearly publicized. Restrictions on collateral travel seem the simplest and easiest to enforce. Just thin the numbers, you know? San Francisco and California have fairly strict indoor rules. Outdoors? We’re all fucking seagulls, I guess.
I think a cop in San Jose, or anywhere else in California, must mask. Although I see some news stories, especially from LA, saying that many cops are not always wearing masks at traffic stops and other interactions with the public — in violation of etc etc etc.
I don’t see a problem with SF announcers doing ad spots asking fans to come to the games. Everyone can decide for themselves whether they want to risk going. Lots of teams’ announcers are not going to road games, maybe most, IDK…
La Stella has had a couple of nice moments, but he’s been a dud, overall. He needs to see less time as a starter.
wonder what M. Semien would want for return to Bay Area?
I would love to see that guy here. And he loves the Bay Area.
Stanford up 17-7 on Oregon at half. Just stuffed goal line 4th down running play.
Economical 49 pitches through 5 for Gausman.
McGee was activated today, Thairo sent down.
On that news, I hope SF is way ahead in the top of the 9th…
dammit
I had visions of a CG shutout
“cleanse the palette of the eye”; “specialty pitches.” Grab some pine, meat.
Austin power!
Way to get that run back Slater.
will they show that HR landing yet again, just to show that woman with the large, rambling rounders celebrate?
Slater gets the run back, cool. Let’s add on more.
Still, I hope the Giants improve OF next year and he’s gone.
His D isn’t special, and hitting is way inconsistent.
He’s fast, but on a slow team that’s easily replaceable with somebody who’s as fast but is better all around…
Let me guess Heliot Ramos fit the bill next year?
But Dickerson has to be the first one gone so he can continue his life after baseball with his Philly cheesesteaks career with his old man and a cameo in Addams Family would work too..
Slater’s stop was brilliant and his throw was terrible. The deep stat analysis on him must be something to see.
I’m up for shallow analysis — he’s not very good. He’s a journeyman.
I’ll leave it to James and the deep stats to explain why Slater should or shouldn’t be back next year. He’s blown 3 sure fly balls in recent games post AS due to weird communication failure on his part as CF. He will make the occasional really good play, or steal an HR. But, so did Tauchman. Meanwhile, I hope he keeps cranking an HR once in a while and at least catches the routine fly balls…
I mean, you know, the really deep stats — like the stats Farhan uses? And Slater’s only signed through this year.
Finally, a national publication touts Crawford for MVP, and shows why Craw cleans up against Tatis …
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/gabe-lacques/2021/10/02/nl-mvp-race-brandon-crawford-bryce-harper-juan-soto-fernando-tatis/5952891001/
Great article atleast one writer gets it in the MVP race seeing how incredible Crawford has been at the most demanding position in baseball.Harper&Tatis just don’t play on winning teams which should knock them out of contention imo Plus Tatis defense sucks 21 freaking errors to Crawford’s 9 and Crawford’s played over 300 more innings at SS 1,139 to 819 that alone disqualifies him with a concrete glove at SS instead of a Gold Gove Crawford..
Great job by Gausman. Now it’s up to the ‘pen.
I was hoping for a Castro Doval 8th 9th.
Not sure Littell’s the guy I want in there, hope I’m wrong.
This isn’t good…
Huge K there.
That was some battle Littell was in! Manned up big and struck out Tatis!!
The air in the park is inviting HRs and the Giants are swinging as if the plans they’re sent to the plate to employ suck. Gotta change, now.
Amazing the game is only tied after that colossal jam.
the dud abides!
Littell never loses a game.
That was his 104th consecutive non-losing appearance…
Dick for Slater? All in for Kap. L/R thing, whatever.
Dick hasn’t done dick most of the year.
Slater way better with the glove in a tie game into the 9th, unless somebody else goes in…
OK, Ruf to LF and Flores to 1b.
Not the best D, but it’s what they got and roll with it.
Meanwhile, Doval is being iced by the Pads and this lights delay. That’s BS…
Better Ruf in left then Dickerson..
That fucking delay was BS after Doval was heated up already! Felt like a Dodgers BS ploy they would pull..
Exactly. And first pitch, knock — to start a tough inning…
Holy S !
Dovall is friggin’ unreal.
Wasn’t that his 4th straight game appearance?
Didn’t have his best stuff, but got it done….
OK, time to win the game and the Division right now,
the pads bs delay was fine. they’re not playing to lose. the shadows helped Doval, but he always looks good these days. all the commentators expect a bad patch for him, based on his work earlier this year here and in Sac. I don’t see it. The kid’s ready to take on anything, imo.
And he went around and that’s the end of the inning, nice call Kuiper!!
Let’s end this shit and party on!!’ As the dogpile is left sulking!
Craw just barely missed the dinger.
Torture…
Advantage Pads into the 10th.
Of course, they’re heavy hitters are coming up…
Where were these Padres relievers when they had a 9-5 lead in LA?
where are our bats?
Tatis welcome to the Castro!
Comandante el Jefe says, wtf are you?
OT on the Farm?
oh man, I hate this extra inning rule
it fucked us on the first game of the season — in combo with the three-batter rule — and it’s fucking us now. In combo with weak BP pitching.
Melancon? The tv shots suggested him.
Touchdown Stanford up 31-24 Ducks turn ..
Damm Duggar
What a shock, can’t get the runner over.
Duggar — can’t even make contact to move the runner.
Dare I say he should have bunted? He’s fast. Bunt for a hit.
His spot needs to be upgraded next season, too. That’s a AAAA at bat…
Cannot let Melonhead close this…
I can’t believe they’re taking this down to the last day of the season. The bats have gone ice cold, all of them.
Doghairs pummeled the Pads for 3 games.
They come in here, and its a dogfight each game.
Anybody betting on the Brewers to beat LA tonight?
Not me…
Fuck no.
