It Gets No Better Than This
I was thinking this morning about how excited Twinfan would be for this series. He’d fire off a furious number of posts to deal with the anxiety. If you can’t get up for this I have bad news for you: I have nothing to offer you in the future as a baseball fan that will top the lead up to tonight’s game. Once the first pitch is thrown this could go any number of ways. Some good, some bad, some VERY bad and some so gloriously nirvanic I might start to weep if I even begin to consider them….
Since SF has never faced LA in the post season I am prepared for this to be the only time this happens in my lifetime. For that reason alone this series is more important to me than any World Series win ever could be. Look, we’ve won World Series trophies and it was fantastic. Now how bout we do something we’ve never done before and send these bitches into a Winter-long slumber they’ll never truly be able to completely wake up from. I know for certain that if that happens I’ll never forget the 2021 season regardless of what happens after……

Was thinking of him yesterday—radio played a version of “The Squirrel”. tune recorded by Fats Navarro in 1948 with Tad Dameron group. I have this (on CD only, Milestone records) but the version I heard is a different one, with Mr. Dameron on piano but different sidemen (Ernie Henry on alto, etc.) and I wondered if he has that one in his vast collection. Believe LP was originally called Fabulous Fats Navarro Vol 1 on Blue Note according to All Music guide..

Notice game is on TBS, only. Did anyone listen to radio during past playoffs, including WS, with usual suspects? What I recall is booth seemed crowded and it was odd hearing different guys chime in. Wonder how many of them will be at the O during playoffs, especially for road games.
At any point will both Giants local and the national TV be available? Tonight local channel is showing Warriors preseason exhibition game.
Pretty sure no local tv and all 4 guys will be on radio.
mm thanks I’m sure you’re right. I do have small radio/single CD player I bought years ago for $29 from Target that works fine. Depending on who national guys are doing game, might have to crank that up.
Side note, one quarter of listening to Fitz do Warriors preseason game vs. Denver was so awful I couldn’t listen to any more of it. So again, the radio could come in handy.
Couple interesting stories in Athletic. One, Baggs quotes Kap as saying he doesn’t plan to do things much differently than he has during regular season in terms of game management in playoffs. Article did mention how much he has relied on Posey for advice on pitching and making changes.
Two, Brisbee went with Dickerson over Duggar on final roster, something that commenters disagreed with almost universally. Doubt that happens, and I do think OF D is gonna matter.
Nice post Flavor, being a lifelong Giants fan there is quite a bit more to this series than meets the eye. I think the key to winning it would be for the players to stay patient at the plate, stay loose, and go out there and have some fun. Go Giants.

Yeah the Giants crew will all be working the the games on radio which is exciting to have Kruk &Kuip,Miller &Flem all work there magic and considering they’ve all been thru the 3-5 years it just justifies them all doing this again. As usual with Flemm which is annoying he will not be around for Saturday’s game due to his ESPN contractual contract and calling the UCLA/Arizona St game in Tempe..
It would be wise of Kapler to lean on the wisdom of all the bore core’s extra knowledge when u have Posey,Crawford,Belt and Longoria there is plenty to go around.This team has to much playoff experience they won’t be intimated by the Dogpile.. Estrada can play multiple positions, has some pop, is fast, and he’s played enough in leverage spots not to be intimidated in a playoff situation. But, I’ll go with Kap, yeah, he’s surely got reasons/stats. They better pan out. If Belt had a healthy hand, Dick would be watching from an off-roster position…

Speaking of guys off the roster, is the clubhouse/dugout available to guys on the 40 man to suit up and just sit and watch, take in the post season pressure, vibe and cheer on the squad, etc.? Like Estrada. After all, most of them probably played on the 26 at some point in the season. And, if the Gyros make it to the NLCS, who knows, the roster then can change a bit, and a couple of guys sitting now might be on the 26 then due to Kap’s “matchups”…

Teams are allowed taxi squad of I think 9 guys. I’m sure Estrada will be on it in case of injury to Solano LaStella or another IF. dogs also will have only 1 LH SP, Urias and are predominantly RH for pen. Vs. STL Roberts brought in Kelly Treinen and Jansen, all only RHPs.
Built in days off Sunday and Wed if necessary I guess is reasoning behind Dickerson over Cueto.
Dickerson did have 3 PH HRs, also 2 doubles and 4 walks.
Didn’t see much action in Sept./Oct only 11 ABs, but August was second best month of season.
Wade needs to keep rolling. Brrrrrrrryant and Shorto need to get the fuck out of their slumps. The rest just need to keep on keeping on. The pitching should be fine. Love Webb getting the nod to be #1 on the hill.
But I don’t want to see Rogers or Littell in high-leverage situations. 7 out of Webb, then Doval, Magoo.

Hallmark of this team has been that anyone at any time can step up and get it done, and I think that will continue. But if I had to choose one player who might put the team on his back if needed, it’s Buster. I don’t remember him ever being so demonstrative emotionally: head nodding, pointing, barking, and my goodness, even smiling. It looks like he’s having fun.
