Good Start On The Road To Delirious Nirvana
Now do you guys see why I wanted LA so badly? How sweet was that?
There is obviously a long road to hoe. No guarantees, though winning Game 1 is enormous in a five game series. All I know is that I had some extra pizzazz in my *fuck yeah!* fist pumps last night.
I still don’t know where Log Dog came from or why we deserve this. Since the Bumgarner draft the Giants have had a putrid record of drafting pitchers. Tim Alderson, Kyle Crick, Tyler Beede, Phil Bickford, God those are just the first round busts. There were so many more….But we got Log Dog in the 4th round of 2014. And he was largely underwhelming and easy to ignore. Except for this April when he was awful and I cursed his name. And then BAM! May 11th came and he struck out 10 Rangers and he really hasn’t looked back since.
LA fans didn’t know who Webb or Doval were before last night.
But they goddamn well know who they are now….
If you have 15 minutes to spare, I kinda love this video of every last out of the franchise record 107 wins this year. “And that’s the ballgame…”…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQJz6toEFV8
Webb had some extra pizzazz in his “fuck yeah” too!
That was awesome.
Last night’s dominant performance by Webb was reminiscent of Timmeh’s complete game masterpiece in game 1 of the 2010 NLDS. It’s been remarkable watching this kid figure it out over the course of this season, right before our eyes. Everything he throws darts and dips and he was painting the corners last night. Very impressive 3 pitch repertoire.
As for Doval, it’s the same thing, he’s figuring it out and that comes down to each guy just learning to trust their stuff, pound the strike zone and believe they can get big league hitters out. So much of success in baseball lies between the ears. Both guys struggled to start the season, but look like seasoned pros now. Doval is filthy, filthy, filthy.
I don’t know what’s going to happen the rest of the way, but beating Buehler again and controlling the game from start to finish was a helluva way to start. Let’s hope the gas man brings it tonight, because they need him to. If he does, the G’s will be in control. The Dodgers only need a split to consider this a successful start to the series for them.
GO GIANTS!
That game was a thing of beauty. Fuck Joe Morgan, we got us a new story. With the old core leading the charge and Webb, Doval and Bryant stamping their names into the books, SF took a good day and made it great.
Interesting thing happened to me yesterday. I went to a local 7-11 and ran into a guy who saw my Giants cap and asked about the game. I said I was excited. He then asked me about Kris Bryant and what I thought of him. I said I liked him but that he’d been ice cold for a few weeks and that the Giants really needed him to step up.
Turns out he was a big KB fan and lifelong Cubs fan and he told me not to worry because KB always steps up in the playoffs Well, I’ll be damned if that isn’t exactly what happened. Pretty prophetic. Thanks, dude!
GO GIANTS!
So true.
We all “deserve” it Flavor.
Especially you for being our “esteemed colleague” every damn day since the Splash crash.
Does anyone recall the circumstances of the “esteemed colleague” incident?
It’s nice that you bring up Twin at times like this (the other day) and however much he abused us, it’s sad that he isn’t here to enjoy this. K & K would definitely have called him a “good Giant (fan)”. He was a lot more than that to us. Plenty good, plenty bad, plenty irreplaceable.
Now can someone out there get poor Stix logged in?
I don’t have any children or grandchildren who can help him.
My cat is pretty smart but not very tech savvy far as I can tell…
the esteemed colleague thing came about because I didn’t put something in quotes and it looked like I was saying it but it was a journalist i was quoting. Simple mistake. Twin pounced on it and was a total dick about it. That’s how he rolled
Round 1 to Kap.
Left Webb in long enough, then after hit brought in Rogers who ended 8th in 2 pitches.
then Doval wiped them out in 9th in his first post season game.
Roberts let Buehler hit for himself, curious move down 2-0. Then Bryant added insurance bomb off him.
Brings in LHP in 8th, and that backfired as Craw took him deep for 4-0.
Lineup today supposedly has Taylor (guy batting 1.000 with game winner bomb vs. STL) back in there in CF. Giants made Bellinger look silly at plate and Beaty didn’t do anything either
You think Dave R is afraid to burn the pen? He did give one of his two LH relievers a workout. I think Doval threw 9 pitches, total. Now that sounds like an efficient closer to me. Still, the bums will not roll over.
Shea says , “Orange Fridays are on hiatus. The Giants won’t wear their orange jerseys in postseason…”
Thank God..Looking at those orange sickle push up ice cream jerseys were a real eye sore and an embarrassment to a proud tradition of Giants great uni’s worn..
Totally agree. I hate those uniforms.
Proudly wearing my Giants cap around Westwood this morning (of course homeless noticing at 8 am) but get this story just heard couple days ago from some of my fraternity bros that Logan Webb’s dad was a fellow Spartan when we were there late 80s and was in a different fraternity…of course that house was full of a bunch of ducks…Go Giants!!!!
Dicks not ducks
The fans may not know, but the Dodgers do.
70% of all game 1 winners go on and win the 5 game series so let’s up that number and win game 2 with Gausman and have the dogpile reeling heading to there Dump of Fields!
Webb has not loss a game since May 5th try wrapping your head around that dominating run of brilliant pitching!
Having a 3 time W/S catcher in Buster Posey really helps settling 1st innings jitters and once he got out of the 1st unscathed he was just “Lights out” as his control ( no walks 10K’s) was impeccable, his stuff change up,slider,4 seam fast ball all were clicking darting are dropping off the table all night!
Yes I expected a Bryant resurgence for the playoffs,3-3 with a Bomb, big time vets step up on the biggest stage like Posey& Crawford and I’m pushing for Longoria to still come through, so I’ll predict a HR from him tonight. Props also to LaStella who made an unbelievable backhand flip of the ball from his glove to Crawford to start an incredible DP( hmm I seem to remember another one like that in a W/S game that was a killer) that sucked more life out the lifeless Dodgers!!
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/dodgers-favored-again-as-lineup-shifts-for-game-2-vs-giants/ar-AAPjQye?ocid=msedgntp
Of course the Dodgers are favored, they still will be favored after the Giants eliminate them in 3, the baseball world will never give them any respect. Those 3 W/S championships and being underdogs in all proves my point that nobody except the true believers believe in this team..
Loo, this one’s for you……

Flav: Was able to access radio broadcast on iMac last night here at Marko’s. Before the regular season got underway I posted on the Flap an intuitive reckoning that the web-spinner would be our ace before season’s end. Sometimes these insights (or whatever) just hit me. Wow! …a performance for the ages. That jutting jaw and that look that Webby displays is the mark of total determination. With an ace like that, combined with the #1 front office in the game and the veteran infused gang formerly known as the Bore Core; it could well be that the Halloween Machine is baack in full throttle. Only fly in the ointment is their piss-poor record with runners in scoring position. Add a deep squad up and down the line and a dominant closer, plus the old Three Musketeers motto of “One for All and All for One” and visions of a parade down Market Street could be something more than mere pipe-dreams.
Had also intuited that LaStella would shine in the post-season. SF did not give him that spiffy two-year contract for shits and giggles. The guy has a deep-dyed baseball sense and sparkplug potential. What’s more he’s versatile, while being one helluva second-sacker. That DP he concocted displayed athleticism and savvy at least as good as the best you will see in the NBA. MLB needs to appeal to the younger generation by highlighting plays like LaStella to CrawDaddy to first.
Posey is such a gem. He had a perfect read on Buehler. Opposite field semi splashdown. Who in their right mind would ever have expected los Gigantes to lead the league in long-balls? Old pro and smarter than hell. When he hangs up the spikes, the organization will work him into the infrastructure. Many Flappers believe that he will ultimately manage. Caught the interview with him and Webb on MLB video this morning. Buster personifies one of the greatest qualities in baseball as compared with all but a few quarterbacks in the NFL and almost everyone in the NBA. He’s a thinking-man’s ball-player.
Baseball ain’t just for jocksforbrains. That’s another thing that the publicity folks in MLB need to address. Somehow, the owners need to overcome their greed and bring back the cheap seats and low-end comestibles for folks who do not possess elite-level incomes.Sure and the gourmet goodies at Oracle should stay there for those who can afford them. No problemo. Just bring on some balance. Baseball became the “National Pastime” by appealing to both those who appreciate the subtle nuances that the ballgame brings into play —those “little things” which attract artists, poets, songwriters and playwrights, as well as to working-class folks who simply cannot afford season-tickets and the other luxurious amenities which characterize baseball’s current status.
Shutting out more than half the population cannot keep our beloved game in the running. Ownership needs to think smart—outside the box. The Super$tar formula just ain’t gonna cut it for genuine mass appeal.More than anything else, baseball is a TEAM game. And as kid-coaches keep emphasizing—“There ain’t no ‘I’ in team. The unbelievable success of the 2021 Giants is the product of a farsighted front office which has focussed on the elementary concept of “we’re all in this thing together”. THAT is the key to their spectacular ascension out of nowhere into possessing the best winning record in the game. Ever notice the fact that SF does NOT sport. a $uper$tar? MLB needs to get its act together. They need someone with the mojo of a Farhan Zaidi as a no nonsense Commissioner. Flash, dash and Razmataz may look good on hit and run highlight reels. However, winning baseball is a complex formula based on a full roster of capable performers. You don’t become top-dog by flashing the incomparable Barry Bonds and a supporting cast of castoffs and also-rans. With their bevy of ego-trippers, the detestable Yank-Me,s lost out to Baahstin when push came to shove. Capisce?
Doval was lights out/shut-down. No contest. Could well be that by next season he will be the #1 closer in the game at the same time as there may develop a horse-race between Webb, Scherzer and a handful of others to be regarded as baseball’s premier starter. So long as that Logan kid from NorCal can stay healthy, he could become numero uno for a decade.
It’s not inconceivable that Doval could attain the status of a much celebrated Central American who wrote the book on closing down games for the NYY’s. The talent seems to be there. Again, though, baseball is not an “it’s all about me” game. Sure, stars are great features, but the supporting cast contributes to a 107-55 season, only one victory short of an incredible .667 winning percentage, a feat where a team wins two games for every one it loses.
Here in the Northwoods of Manysnowta, our splendid autumn seems to be shifting gears and as of last night and today its no more 70+ sunny days and into those autumn bluuz with a plethora of grey skies and rain. Upshot of that is that my personal fix-up time on a long neglected homestead with gardens, trees and a lifestyle more like 1910 than the new Millennium will shift into more and more indoor time. So instead of going balls to the walls outdoors, energy will finally give some go to little things like negotiating the maze of WordPress and getting back to Flapping those electronic gums once again with a great gang of Giants fanatics. It couldn’t have happened at a better time. Meanwhile, I’ll be making that two mile drive back to the Ice Palace—all six by sixteen feet of it—and cooking up some breakfast.
Go Gausman. Go Giants! Colors for the month of October are orange and black and if team cohesion prevails, that coach will not transform back into a pumpkin.
That was an exceptionally good post. Thanks for that.
it’s a crime against Flap humanity that this dude can’t figure out how to log on and post here.
Thank you, Flavor.
He is truly amazing.
A very gifted man…
You are right flavor that win was extra special.
It was thrilling to see the Giants win Game 1 last night, but I still would have rather faced the weaker team, the Cards.
Tonight’s game vs. Urias is one Belt might not have started anyway.
If Bryant’s terrific performance last night is a sign of a playoff awakening for him, that would be very cool.
Orange Friday isn’t the City Connect Orange cream-sickle uniforms.
Orange Friday is those solid orange jerseys.
yes.
One of the MLB Network broadcasters referred to Dave Roberts as a chess master.
There’s no way to know that until he has to finally manage a team that isn’t so stocked with talent. He took over a team that had won the division the previous year.
Boris Spass-tic…
1. Darin Ruf (R) LF
2. Kris Bryant (R) CF
3. Austin Slater (R) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
8. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
9. Kevin Gausman (L) P
Once Urias leaves the game, they’ll flip the OFers to the lefties…
I was a little surprised that Solano hit for LaStella late in the game.
LaStella was 2-2 and a BB plus the insane DP.
Strictly a L-R move that I didn’t think was worth it.
Didn’t like it, but I guess we’ve been rightfully put in no second guessing mode…
Yes the will Snarkk..Pretty nice to have a bench of lefties like Yaz,Wade,LaStella,Duggar and to a lesser degree Dick who’s only a PH burn and no way in the field..
Of course Beautiful Krissy stays in no matter what, right?
He came out in 9th last night when GD took CF right? Yaz and Wade switched to corners iirc..
You right, Wille.
Maybe TBS was still in commercial when they made the change…
Exactly, Kat, until such time that the Giants physically boot the fucking Dodgers out of the playoffs, LA will be favored, and maybe even then they’ll still be favored. To that I say, “Who cares?” Fuck ’em.
I enjoyed that little essay from Stix, right on point and quite eloquent. What is it exactly that’s keeping him from posing here?
no clue. He says he can’t log on
With KB hopefully snapping fully out of his batting snooze, it’s time for Longoria to do the same thing. They need both of those guys tearing the cover off the ball.
Mr. Ed is overdue for a bomb.
Just one since 8/31.
Tonight’s the night…
agreed. He’s the guy I had a prem on to hit one tonight
He came close last night. Off the bat I thought he had it, but it went foul by not all that much.
“ The dang column cost me a splash hit” said Posey..
Yes that’s so true, it would of made history being in the books as
the only Right Handed Batter to do it..
One thing kinda cool though the ball actually got sprayed by the column
before exiting, does that count as as a double splash it?💦
CW Nevius is on twitter all day trying to talk people into believing that should be counted as a splash hit. Fuck that, gotta earn it.
No that’s BS it’s got to go in on the fly..
otherwise what are even doing here? Anarchy? That be like San Dawg counting the length of his drive after it bounces on the cart path for 40 yards (this is a test to see if he’s reading the blog)
LET’S GO GIANTS!
As usual, I guess the strategy is to get a lot of pitches out of Uranus ASAP…
Gausman looks like a righty Graeme Lloyd.
Obscure enough?
Crawford with the Lou Seal headband…
It only took the first batter for the Giants to get screwed by Angel Hernandez.
No doubt, but Ruf should know not to trust that moron on a fairly close 2 strike pitch…
Great point Loo
Snarkk’s made this point, too – about trusting umps in general.
This guy in particular can never be trusted…
And why does this clown 🤡 get allowed to ump in the postseason?
Great question.
Slater eats up left handed pitching!
Goddamn, that can’t happen.
Fucking gasman. Letting the pitcher beaty you is inexcusable. And the fun continues.
We’re too conditioned by past seasons to freak out if we get down a couple runs. Lot of game left,we could easily roll these bitches tonight
Maybe Hernandez behind the dish ain’t that bad Mr.Ed looked like he took strike 3 as Roberts is blowing a gasket in the dugout..
Shorto with the warning track power.
Damm I thought I got my Longoria HR, but the night air knocked it down..
Aloha everyone.
Was about to report you missing, Sarge!
Finally made it on
Alright, got one back.
Alright cut that lead in half
The bad angel giveth and the bad angel taketh away
Wow, that carried…
Gauze at 51 pitches thru 3…
I like where we are right now
I wonder what the score of the Giant game was on Sunday at the time of Muncy’s injury…
Uranus at 50 pitches so it’s a wash..
Longo flashes the leather!
Sure wouldn’t want to be paying Bellinger and Bauer’s huge contracts…
Back to back strong innings out Gausman, looks like he’s got his mojo back..only 14 pitches 65 thru 4
Posey continues to Rake!! Leadoff double, let’s go!!
Runner on 2nd no out, worst possible situation for the Giants.
I’m all for putting Bryant at third and benching Longoria. You can’t have a dud bat at third base. He looks out of gas for the season.
Excellent idea, Zum!
I didn’t know he finished 0 for his last 20. Stats you don’t hear from K&K.
And he wasn’t exactly on fire before that…
Good idea. There was a period early in the season where Longoria was on fire. But down on KB to 3rd.
Recently watched short version of WS 2010. I’d forgotten how miserable Pat the non-Bat was in that series. Seemed he struck out every time up. He was clearly done. I’m not a big Longo fan, but I didn’t think he was *done* yet…. They need his bat, dagnabbit…
Kershaw makes the dumbest commercials…
Let’s go! Time to score some runs!
Today is both the birthday of John Lennon and John Entwistle. I find that coincidence kind of cool.
Would be a lot cooler if they were alive…
Everyone knows Entwistle as the bassist for The Who, but he plays a mean mandolin, too.
Yeah, they are both missed, very definitely.
Seems Gausman has settled down
Huge K!
Yeah stop begging Carrot face sit down bitch!
I’m not convinced Gausman ever comes set in the stretch.
Umps let him get away with it, so…..that’s cool.
Well, that move to not pinch hit isn’t looking good.
Yeah, that seemed questionable to not pinch hit.
Yeah, that was not the usual aggressive Kap.
I suspect that the spider tack ban really did Gasman in. He still touches his cap brim often, but he doesn’t pinch it the way he used to, before the ban.
Spaghettios serves up a meatball…
And dessert…
Fuck…
Oh well. Fucking Leone walks guys and that.
And that. Ooops.
Back-to-back daggers….shit.
When you let Bellinger beat you, then you deserve it.
he took out Gausman for this dude. A random dude who has never pitched in the post season. Uh huh…..
Shit why leave Leone in to pitch to Bellinger?
Fuck should of had a lefty in there !
Fuckk Kapler making huge mistakes as he continues to watch Leone get blown up!!
Was just about to type the very same thing.
Their lefties have been on vacation all week and are off tomorrow.
WTF is he saving them for?
Bellinger was Leone’s 2nd batter, he had to face him.
Forgot about that stupid fuckin rule…
Fucking bellinger? Damn.
The tv shots of dodger fans at the park remind me of games I attended when pockets of them went off. Night game in Sept. 2009, a family of 8 jumped up in front of us every time the bums did something and highfived each other during the next two or three pitches. Then they did the same thing whenever their phones told them that USC at the LA Coliseum had done something.
I hate LA.
Hernandez is a horrible ump. How the fuck does he rate playoff games?
No shit. He fucking sucks.
i still don’t understand why Gausman had to come out because he pitched around a guy. For fucking Leone who is just some rando
I got a flu shot today and had a strawberry sundae while I was at Costco. That was a couple of positive things for the day.
Four innings to chip away for believers.
Cousin Flavor likely to appear at some point…
