A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

One More To Go

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 12, 2021

Now THAT was a throwback game. Timely defense, excellent pitching and one had-to-have-it hit—and some luck, too. When Turner hit that ball that was foul by an inch I thought “maybe the ball is bouncing our way tonight.” And sure enough, for the rest of the night it did. When you look back on a game it’s amazing how the signs of a win or a loss are sprinkled throughout the game in subtle moments. Think about it….

Still, this is no time to celebrate, gents. Nothing’s happened yet.

But I can see the sun rising and it might be the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Imagine if we pull this off…..

Well that was a cakewalk wasn’t it. I wanted to join the party last night, but I had to work. To borrow a Krukism, Lux got AT&T’d at his own park and it was lovely. Craw’s D, Longo finally doing something at the plate, and Doval stone cold killer. Reminds me of the shape shifting Terminator from Terminator 2. Focused on his mission, unbothered and undeterred. What a game! Why not close this thing out tonight and dance on their field. That would be so sweet.

One of the most intense, and beautiful ball games I have seen in a long time. This game had it all, including the wind at the perfect moments, complements of the baseball gods. Let’s close this out, tonight.

LaStella did leave game due to problems with Achilles again. Barrels sure made nice snag and throw. Hope he starts tonight and they use better OB guy at top of lineup, especially against Buehler

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on October 12, 2021 at 8:57 am

minor quibble but LaStella doesn’t seem like good option at leadoff. Sure sees a lot of pitches, but doesn’t really do much with it. OB of .308 one of worst on team. OPS .713 worse than Dickerson.

LA complaining about wind stopping Lux’ ball — there were a couple of Giants balls that could have been out and they were stopped with catches right near the wall. Conditions applied to both teams, Longo happened to muscle up more than the rest. Great D all around by the Giants. Craw’s stab of the Mookie liner was epic given the situation — give the coaches some credit for the positioning…

      Get this crybaby crap
It was huge,” Roberts told reporters after the game. “Both Gavin Lux’s ball and Chris Taylor’s ball would have been out on any other night… Those two balls right there, it would have been a different outcome.”

But Dave, Dave, Dave, Yaz and Brandon’s would also have gone out if not the wind conditions.

Could it be a little fatigue creeping in with his boys? After all, they were more familiar with a post season that followed a shortened season…

Tonight is the night. The weakest of the Dodger starters going, which means squat, of course, in the tense context of the playoffs, but this thing is teed up for the Giants to close it out. I do not want a game 5, Logan Webb or not. Buehler is a tough pitcher and fully capable of shutting any team out at any time. I’d fully expect him to, because beating a guy like that three times in a row seems unlikely. Just my two bits.

And that putz Lux raising his arm like he’d it it out only to have the rug jerked out from underneath him was an instant classic. Fuck him.

Doval is a big dude, yoked.
Barring injury, he should be penciled in as the odds on closer starting into next Spring Training. Maybe they can teach him a cutter in the offseason, I don’t think he’s got one developed. Then he’d have the heat, the cutter and a slider. That slider is nasty, and has to be tough on the elbow. That 100 mph heat won’t last forever. Rivera lived by the cutter, I don’t think he ever had any serious arm issues…

I watched the MLB consolidated game summary vid of last nights game. About 7 min.
What a great game. Full of drama and cool plays, not many hits, but that adds to the cool. It’s worth your time.
On Wade — LA may have his number, Scherzer did and I suppose any other of their RHPs will pound him with sliders/cutters low and inside and he can’t lay off. He’s so up on the plate in the box that he can’t shorten up to hit ’em, so he better lay off ’em.
Scherzer K’d Longo with a belt+ high fastball early on. So, on Longo’s next AB he went back with that pitch 0-2, but Longo was ready for it that time. One vet went for the kill pitch, not a teaser, and got outfoxed by another vet. Scherzer is a smart pitcher, not a thrower. He’s damn good.
It’s cool to see how a game flows and fits together when you watch these consolidated vids…

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on October 12, 2021 at 12:24 pm

Everyone (except Longo) was missing/fouling off very hittable fastballs down the middle. Wade and Yaz especially.

Trey Lance out 3 weeks with a sprained knee. Shanahan has really turned into a fucking horrible coach. His play calling these last 3 games has been iffy with Jimmy to flat awful with Lance starting. Lance should get his yards on scrambles, not designed runs. Starting Benjamin over Aiyuk is just a bullshit bully stance. Now he sacrifices his very costly QB for one win. It’s like he didn’t want Lance, so now he is going to run him and ruin him so he can get Jimmy back in there.

Much like daddy with RG III and Kurt Cousins.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on October 12, 2021 at 12:36 pm

He’s got an off day of rest to work with, but still probably doesn’t want to burn his best arms unless the game is damn close. Kruk and Kuip are sitting out these LA games in the Bay Area.
My guess is Kuiper doesn’t want to risk travel because he’s been on chemo, and Kruk doesn’t do roadies anyway due to his muscle disease.
      Miller just turned 70 yesterday.
It may not be long that 3 out of this 4 group are going to retire. Miller dropped a ton of weight right before the pandemic, so I’m guessing he had some health come to Jesus discussion with his medicos a couple of years ago. About a decade or so ago, I happened to see him at SFO in a gate seating area ready to board a flight to NYC. He was still doing ESPN games, and I could hear he was talking to some kind of producer about the upcoming game broadcast. He was quite rotund at the time…

Adam Duvall is turning into the worst base runner and dumbest in the history of baseball!
Not only did he screwup big time the other day by tagging up at 1st base and gets thrown out for a inning ending DP before the runner from third crossed homeplate, just now on 2nd base one out he takes off for home on a basic routine fly ball to Yelich in LF who just flipped it into 2B for an easy DP!!

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on October 12, 2021 at 3:21 pm

I’ve never understood major base running gaffes.
It’s a simple matter to decide whether to run or not run, if you’re prepared in your mind what to do under various game condition scenarios existing at the time, and you pay attention to the 1st or 3rd base coaches. If they blow it and you’re out following their direction, it’s not your fault. Really galling is getting doubled up, except in the most rare conditions such as you’re leading off first and the batter smokes a liner directly to the 1bman, who then just beats you back to the bag. Any time a runner is doubled off by a throw from an OFer, it is most likely an error of awareness and concentration…

Some of them, maybe lots or all of them, responded in kind and continued the conversation and maybe took some actions based on those ideas. I assume you send out a bunch of emails over a long period of time full of racist and sexist crap to people you think/know share your views.
Gruden shouldn’t be the only guy singled out for this. I’m wondering why he was all of a sudden a target for a Big Reveal. Also, you have to think the Raiduhs organization and bowl-cut Davis were aware of his toxic views at some point, maybe long before they knew about these particular emails. I wonder if Al Davis knew about Gruden’s views a long time ago and that was part of the reason why Darth Al traded/fired him to the Bucs…

Lux btw starts in CF tonight, with Taylor in LF and Bellinger at 1b.
Collectively guys in Dogs starting lineup batting .179 so far over 3 games.
For Giants listed above Wade and Yaz combined 0-15.

t-bone has missed the target badly, even when he hasn’t hung his sliders. not exactly prime cut. but only one run. buehler looks like he intends to throw his arm out in this game.
