The decision to start Garappolo also may be a sign of not trusting Trey which is a little disconcerting that they don’t have faith in him. I wanted to see how Trey started and then sub in Jimmy of things were not going Niners way. If things start poorly for Niners and Jimmy G and then being forced to shove a rookie in under that pressure to come to save the day will blow up in their faces. Type of decision that costs head coaches their jobs.

Jake M is a nut. Shanahan’s job is to win football games and this game is must win to get in. So he’s going with who he thinks is his best choice, and when he plays decently enough (as in 0 ints) they win.
Way more important is other side of football–can they shut down Stafford and passing game and control line of scrimmage.
Last time G was on the field he was driving ball 90 yds for TD that tied the game, only for D to lose it (just like GB game) by allowing Titans drive for FG that won the game.
Last time these teams played Rams spent most of game stuck on 7 points til garbage time FG and SF owned time of possession with long drives and strong running game. Hold them down today and they should win.
Shanahan lost the GB game. I didn’t like the Ryans defense that drive, but it’s not like Aaron Rodgers hasn’t led 10,000 4th quarter winning drives. Shanahan left way too much time on the clock. And Ryans should have been putting max pressure on Rodgers, not dropping into prevent coverage. It took 3 fucking pays to get into FG range. One sack would have ended the game.
You can say the same for the Tenn game. These are top playoff offenses the Niner defense was going against. Leaving time on the clock was not smart. Shanahan is not good pay caller. He sucks at finishing games.
That being said, our defensive backfield is healthy for once. Josh Norman and Diontae Johnson will not be our CBs so there’s some hope there.
As usual it is all about the pressure. If we can force bad throws and get pressure, we will win. We have controlled Aaron Donald very well in all our wins.

I can see the reasoning behind Shanny’s decision and I think even with the run game working we see a lot of Lance. I agree with what chuck said earlier about Lance being ready. If Jimmy can be productive it is his baby and I respect KS for doing it. He just has to know when to shut it down if he isn’t 100%.

I wanted Lance to start but i can see why Jimmy gets the nod. If he couldn’t hold or grip a football he wouldn’t be getting it. Jimmy has done real well against the Rams and I think the Williams situation might have had something to do with it. Jimmy is used to getting hammered and his release is a little quicker. I don’t know anything about Webb or the Giants but I think the whole FO realizes just how important this game is. If Jimmy can’t move the ball I don’t think KS hesitates to bring in Lance.
7 fumbles isn’t really getting the ball out quick. Nor are the 10 picks.
