A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Are the ‘Guardians’ The Worst Name In Professional Sports? Yes.

Fun little series with Cleveland. I like that we no longer stack all the interleague games at the same time. Although with the uni DH there’s not much difference between the leagues except general style of play/pitching. I’m also enjoying the uni DH, as I suspected we’d get used to it very quickly.

I’d go with the Washington Commanders. They might as well had gone with the Washington Generals.

Redtails woulda been a nice nod to the Tuskegee airmen of WWII fame. But that’s too easy.

Be interesting to see what Kap does with DH as season moves along, and it gets more ABs for Ruf and Flores, which is great (Joc ass I’m less enthused about). Bart was DH vs. Manaea the LHP, and he struck out 3 times in the all RH lineup. Thing is, had Casali gotten hurt (and Kap said he was uneasy about it), if Bart had to take his place they would have lost the spot altogether and had to use PHs. This was a lineup without both Belt and Crawford, so unlikely I guess Kap does that again even vs. LHP.

You can only say so much about April ball especially given shortened ST. But, once rosters go back to 26 May 2 and Giants unhealthy position players like LaStella Longoria and Wade Jr. get back, others aren’t going to be around. So who is gonna be able to make those decisions tough on FO, and who is gonna be DFA’d or sent down. Roster churn will happen.
Plus Kap will have to go back to 13 pitchers.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on April 15, 2022 at 11:50 am

I’ll make one of the tough decisions .I’m cutting Beede he’s just too wild and they need pitchers who throws strikes, not to try and guide and pray to hit the strike zone.Besides they have 2 better quality arms in Castro&Marte in Sac.They have given Beede plenty of leash but he’s choked on the collar way to often then not. As good as the pitching has been, he’s a roster spot not needed when a guy like Gonzalez has a proven bat from time with Whitesox’s would be better for added bench strength..

As someone said earlier there are probably gonna be a lot of nail biter games. Which means the torture is back and should make for a fun season. Hopefully the core will regain the power of last year and our timely hitting can continue. I read something this morning about how teams are using their pitching to counter act any situation inning by inning. On the surface it seems it would make games longer but if the strategy works should actually shorten the games. I think a lot of teams looked at the Giants last year and are trying to copy that success.

Your favorite Amy G with Kapp over a Laphroaig.
Either interesting or somewhat offputting — depends on your POV and the segment of the interview.
Laphroaig wouldn’t be my first choice, Amy G kind of sips it like it’s gasoline.
Kapp’s gotta be a pretty keen Scotch drinker. This one’s pretty rough for neophytes. It’s an Islay, a challenging peaty Scotch. Kapp could have at least just gotten a nice, smooth highland Macallan or similar…

Not a big scotch fan. Whiskey is a different story altogether. Scotch to me has a real aluminum (aluminium?) taste to it. A real metallic bite.

Blanton’s single barrel bourbon is some good shit. A brand by Buffalo Trace.
Expensive. Cool bottle with different horse miniatures on the stopper.
It’s filled and finished on a totally hands-on manual bottling line at the distillery in Frankfort, KY.
Saw it myself on the distillery tour. The tasting afterwards did NOT include a free finger of that one !
Same trip we did a tour at the Wild Turkey distillery in Lawrenceburg. They make the Russel’s.
The old master distiller Jimmy Russell was in the gift shop/tasting room area sitting there, holding court and signing shit.
We got a whiskey food recipe book that he signed. He’s older than dirt, and has been the master distiller almost since Prohibition ended. His boy is now the real distiller. Wild Turkey was a good tour, and nice tasting of 5 different products. People were great. We rolled in 5 minutes late for the second to last tour of the day. They put us on the extra tourbus and drove just us on the tour route up to the first stop so we could catch up, and not have to wait an hour for the last tour to start. Highly recommended stop if you go on a bourbon tour. Woodford Reserve was really good, too. Smaller operation, high class…

I don’t see how the Wizards could have still been called the Bullets, given that there are so many thousands of gun deaths in the U.S. every year. The average person watching the news can’t keep track of all the mass shootings that happen in the U.S. now. Calling a sports team the Bullets just wasn’t a viable thing anymore.

There is an effort to capture the cats and get them spayed or neutered. But then they are returned to the stadium.
