Dubs get a nice long layoff. Giants get Washington who they should handle at home. Derby next weekend got my attention. And The Oaks on Friday may be even more exciting. This is my time of year. Reveling.

A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball 
Gotta say, this is my time of year too. Get into New Orleans tomorrow AM and head out to the fairgrounds soon after. Probably a light day as I get my legs under me, but I plan on seeing the Cookers jazz band, Cecil McBee is one of my fav bass players so that’ll be nice. Probably see some Kim Carson, the Palm Court Jazz band, some gospel with Leo Jackson and the Mighty Clouds. I don’t know, maybe some James Andrews, Galectic, love the Soul Rebels and will probably check out a tribute to Bessie Smith with Meschiya Lake. Oh, gotta catch some Asleep at the Wheel (maybe Shamarr Allen will sit in again), some Jose Feliciano and end the day with The Who.
All while eating great food and drinking ice cold beers, yep, my kinda day.

Tonight will just pizza,, I don’t get into NOLA until tomorrow. This isn’t a corn dog/funnel cake kinda deal, my first thing tomorrow will be the cochon de lait po-boy, as they say here in the south “Son, that’s some good eatin’ right dere”. Here’s the link for the food offerings.

Struck up a nice conversation with Cecil at my first jazz fest in 86 when he was with the Leaders, and again at Yoshi’s so hoping I get a chance to say hi to him.
Love the gospel of the Mighty Clouds of Joy. To me some of the best soul music is gospel. Sounds like your gonna have a great day.
The gospel tent gets rocking, fer sure. The New Orleans Gospel Soul Children and the Electrifying Crown Seekers will also be on my list.

Sounds like fun, Bozo. Haven’t been to nola since before Katrina. The highlight of my work trip to Tallahassee was the Po’ boys and the fish. Asked one of the guards where the best seafood was, and he recommended the Seineyard out in the sticks. Great grouper and shrimp. You had to hunt to find stuff that wasn’t deep-fried!
True dat, Unca. A lot has changed in the city since Katrina, foodwise thou it’s a bit more diverse now (many places have salads now).
But frying is in their blood, and they do it well, so I gotta get me some. I live in a fishing community, but those gulf shrimps down there are pretty tasty, and their blue crabs are bigger than ours so they can do more with the soft shells. Also, right now is crawfish season. Come on down, I’ll buy you a birthday beer or two (hope ya had a happy one by the way, including swimming with that hockey team).

Dodgers’ Bauer has been suspended by MLB without pay for two full seasons worth of games (324), starting now, I guess. I’m guessing he had still been getting paid while on enforced leave from the team.
Earlier, Bauer filed a defamation and intentional interference with contract (et al) lawsuit against the woman who accused him. Not the kind of dramatic publicity mlb needs. Maybe Bauer will appeal the suspension and settle with mlb for a lesser sentence in return for dropping his own lawsuit. Well, not officially, of course.

Giants vs. Nats, Dodgers vs. Tigers. The Giants and Dodgers both have a good chance to sweep this weekend. The standings might not change this weekend.

Fried catfish has to be my favorite of all time.
Oh, I had the deep fried shrimp and catfish while I was there, but the pan-fried grouper was great.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Nationals hit a little better this weekend. The middle of their line up didn’t do much last weekend. Soto in particular hasn’t done much against SF over the last couple seasons. At least that’s the way it seems.

Her background is not unusual to me. I stupidly dismissed her work years ago as derivative of the Ray Carver/Denis Johnson inspired MFA malaise. Luckily, I took another look.

I just happen to have the free AppleTV trial that came with my recently purchased MacBook and I’m not impressed at all with their baseball coverage. Pence is Pence, but this Katie Nolan chick has got to go, not to mention the clown they have doing play by play. I pay for MLBTV every year and can’t watch it there because of this crapola.
We give Kruk and Kuip guff sometimes, but we are spoiled rotten when it comes to broadcast crews. Miller, Flem, Kruk and Kuip are as good as it gets, imo. These idiots damn near ruin the game.
