Fallen Halo
Imagine being an Angels fan. Your owner decides to inexplicably go for it in what appears to be a pathetic attempt to keep Ohtani who is likely 2 steps out the door anyway. You trade some of your decent prospect for some ok bats and Giolito.
And then you go 0-7.
That’s wild.
Personally, had Farhan done anything I bet we’d be 6-0 🙂 But maybe that’s just the eternal optimist that resides within me.
That was nice surprise to wake up to after heading to bed after the top of the 7th…another Farhan dumpster dive, but this one came through in Mathias…couple big OF errors, but they all the hitters did what they needed to do with just getting the ball in play in the top of the 9th…
Damn. LAAAA has fallen 8 back of the last playoff spot. Woulda been really bummed if we had lost that game. Let’s just hope this wakes up the bats for a while. Got to make hay when we can.
Pen game tonight.
Shit, Craig. Look at AZ. They added closer Paul Sewald, Tommy Pham, and Jace Peterson, as well as another pen arm Peter Strzelecki. The Tommy Pham curse.
They are 0-6.
Pollock batting the 3 hole?
He’ll probably be DFA’d in a few weeks…
Giants are #1 in W/C race with an 79% chance to make the playoffs!
Maybe the best trades are the one you don’t make.Z holding firm will frustrate many but it seems to be working, still build within with youth, yes they’re will be rough patches with rooks but the experience will only get better along with the bats eventually just take patience..
It’s the pitching that keeps this team rolling, no doubt the best are second? in baseball.Kap does his best to not overwork them but it’s tough in the dog days in hot humid weather stadiums to still play at.He will roll with the max 13 pitchers for sure on these road trips..
Glad to see you’re coming around AK, e.g., “Z holding firm will frustrate many but it seems to be working, still build within with youth, yes they’re will be rough patches with rooks but the experience will only get better along with the bats eventually just take patience.”
“II am of the opinion that we all only have so many baseball seasons left to root for in our lives. That’s hard to argue against, right? So why not try your best in every one of them?”
By not trading Ohtani, Moreno did a great service to baseball and Angel fans, whom he loves not wisely, but too well. Of course it was a good deed that would not go unpunished.
Ohtani is a narcissist. Consider ourselves lucky the Giants aren’t going to sign him next year, not that he would deign to play in a park that suppresses HR totals. Basically, he’s got teams trying out for the privilege of paying him half a billion dollars in a sport where you need two dozen good to great players to succeed.
As a DH, he’s not worth Aaron Judge money, of course neither is Judge. As a pitcher, he IS worth deGrom money, but with his Tommy John elbow and blisters fingers, he won’t be making that many starts over the course of his career.
I was only half-joking when I wrote on Baggs’ page that Logan Webb is not only a better pitcher (true), if given a chance he might have proved to be a better hitter (hyperbole). Do you know that in 2021, Webb drove in more runs per AB, one every 6.71, than Ohtani, 7.01.
Forget Ohtani, just please don’t let him sign with an NL West team.
Rest of season is a rough schedule.
Giants have done well with .500+ teams, is the reposte to that.
There are 6 games with Dbacks, so there’s that.
I’m thankful for the new scheduling, though.
For years I’d been yammering about playing the same teams a boring 19X. Now, we get a full slate of regular games with teams outside the division and NL — much more enjoyable and interesting.
I heard on KNBR this morning that Ohtani has been living here up in Seattle the last two offseasons. May, may be an indication of where he wants to end up. I wonder if that is an Ichiro legacy thing. Anyway, Mariners known around here as being generally cheap on the payroll side, so to get Ohtani, they will need to roll out the cash truck — the Space Needle only goes so far against competition waving a lot of $zeroes…
Tough night for Webb as Angels hitters kept fouling off strikes and running up pitch count and he was gone w 106 pitches before 6th ended. So few quality SPs left and they throw fewer innings every season. Depth of staff with more guys capable of being effective and working less innings than traditional SP has become key.
think plan today is Alexander as opener followed by Wood.
Wood needs to get his head straight. He’s been a mess lately.
Orioles have an exciting team that’s really fun to watch with plenty of depth even in the minors!
But yet they’re billionaire thin skin owner Peter Angelous (sp who cares?) is just a old school asshole. He recently demoted a real good young announcer Kevin Brown for him saying the Orioles have struggled against the Marlins and his stats showed it over the last few years going back to 2017.Which the DICK owner took exception too?Gary Cohen Mets broadcaster with Keith Hernandez called out the owner saying what did he say that deserved this? He hasn’t been on TV air now since July16 just some radio work!
This same owner sent our own broadcaster Jon Miller a legend packing back in 97 cause he felt Miller didn’t bleed Orange&Black enough? WTF?This thin skinned old white boy club owner is a disgusting person and bad for the game!
I don’t think Angelos, son of Greek immigrants, is running the team now. He’s apparently been too ill to do anything for a couple of years. He was a wildly meddlesome owner in his prime and took heat for it. In 94-95, he blamed the strike on his co-owners and refused to field replacement players. He would’ve been booted out of mlb if federal trial judge Sonia Sotomayor hadn’t enjoined the other owners from fucking over (not her exact words) the players with the fraudulent, unfair replacement scheme (which, as I say, Angelos opposed). I think these days his son is in charge of things like stupidly punishing team broadcasters.
Which owner is worse ?
1. One who ridiculously disciplines a team broadcaster for telling the truth about past team failures in doing a legitimate comparison to its current success; or
2. One who repeatedly funds white supremacist politicians and causes, feigns innocence in doing so and then promises to stop, then instead continues the practice…
I don’t know if Angelos’s son punished Brown. He’s probably responsible for it ultimately. Blew up in his face, didn’t it? Meanwhile, Johnson’s son, who is the acting gen partner of the Giants now, is smart enough not to give large sums of publicly traceable money to fascist cranks. Why his reclusive retired father does that I can’t understand. He’s obviously not going to stop.
I do think scion Johnson looks like a fool for saying he’d get his father to clean up his act but then failing to do that. (If the old man was so hellbent on supporting the likes of Herschel Walker, he could’ve done it darkly. Wtf?) Sounds like the kind of guy who’d try to sign a lifetime deal with a star SS before the team’s medical review was complete.
Didn’t hear Greggie say he would try to curb his dad’s proclivities toward the Q-Anon crowd. A fool’s errand to say the least. Due’s what? 95? Beyond that, it’s a free country and he shouldn’t need to hide the fact that he supports the wing-nut brigade. Much like DeSanitarium fighting the almighty mouse.
If it drives fans away, I’m sure Charlie doesn’t give a shit. Just ask the brilliant wags at Anheuser Busch.
Well, his promise actually sounded pretty spineless now that I reread it (Baggs interview in tA March 2021 ( he also said his family’s % of the team is less than 30)).
“With that said, he would also recognize, as I would, that we don’t want to do anything that hurts the Giants. And if that narrative now is that any donation is going to be scrutinized and picked apart, what I would want him to do is to be more targeted and vet more carefully any political donation in the future. But again, we’re all free to support who we want. I do think a lot of it has been mischaracterized in the press. I’ve had conversations with him, and he doesn’t want to do anything that affects the Giants or affects morale with the staff. And hopefully that means that we all avoid this in the future.”
In TA there were 2 different threads about O’s messing with the broadcaster and how bad a look it was. In comments everyone who mentioned Jon miller was disappointed over him leaving.
I hardly ever see/hear him nowadays and don’t listen to KNBR now that I’m not driving back/forth to work. Didn’t Kuiper do entire game from big A last night with Krukow in studio, like vs. A’s?
Odd set up for “road trip” games where there’s often Pence Estes Javy Flemming yada yada.
I would not doubt it if one or more of Kruk, Kuip and Miller are not around to broadcast next year. Lots of voices going in/out/over the TV and radio Giants airwaves now = retirement writing on the wall. I don’t know why Miller is absent a lot, maybe he has an unannounced health issue. The other two have and have had their own health issues. As long as a permanent replacement is not FP Santangelo. Really don’t like his approach, and his faux self-deprecating “I’m just a stupid ball-player” (which he is) style. He got canned from the Nats reportedly for some sort of misconduct, there is that, too. I’m OK, but not thrilled with that Joe Ritzo guy (though he reminds me too much of Greenwald, who I did not like at all). I like Shawn Estes, especially if he stop rambling and learn to cut to the chase…
Interesting, Greenwald was one of my favorites. When Kruk and Kuip first started I thought they were terrible but over the years they grew on me.
Yeah, me too. I really liked Greenwald.
Slusser says AJ starts in CF tonight.
Slush also said in Chron Yaz eligible to return this weekend.
Hi all,
Just a quick mention from a comment last night about lack of SF fans at the latrine…My buddy Greg and I used to go to 6-7 games a year there. But after years of lax security and having food throw at me, beer poured at me from a deck above, my hat flipped off my head by a Dodger fan going the other way in the stadium, and finally a full beer bottle throw in the parking lot that broke a window in my friends truck… we now go to 1-2 games and pay much more for the lower deck where the humans are, not the low lifes. A sad fact wearing gear their is hazardous:(
We will be at the game tonight! Go Giants!
yeah, fuck dealing with those LA thugs. I bet there are more Giants fans at the game tonight than Halo fans. Report back. And have a blast!
Man, that’s sad mrsprtdude. Your restraint is admirable. Total BS for crap like that to happen. Like Flav said, enjoy the game this evening!
he wasn’t showing restraint. It’s not like it’s him vs the guy who flipped his hat. He responds and there 25 other hooligan LA fans waiting to Brain Stow his ass. This is why I won’t ever go to a game in LA
What do you call it? I call it restraint for the very reason you just cited, i.e., “25 other hooligan LA fans” would likely pile on. In other words, in the heat of the moment – what would you do Flav? Me? In my 20s, I probably would have reacted because I was a hot head. Coupled with drinking/using, definitely I would have.
You probably already answered that question too by the last thing you said – “This is why I won’t ever go to a game in LA.”
By the way, in no way was I trying to inpugn his manhood (if that was your drift Flav).
That was my comment, thanx for the reply and sorry you had to deal with all that crap. Yeah, I’ve heard it can get nasty there. I went to Mets game at LA 2 years ago and opted not to wear any Giants gear.
I went to a game at Dodger Stadium in the early 2000s. The stadium itself is nice. The game was a day game, Dodgers vs. Cubs, and I didn’t wear any Giants gear.
I’m really ready for the Sweet Caroline bar commercial to go away.
It’s an insult to the human race…
It is.
Lower deck front rows where it’s safe, but still, these people gave dodger stadium what it deserves. With Lincecum pitching, they must’ve had a blast.

Let’s re-wind this opener for the Giants…
Wow. Alexander’s era takes a hit. Fuck.
Same start as last night – Ohtani singled to center, Rengifo scored.
Open wide.
Joc swings at ball 4 and gets a hit.
and comeback is on as Wilmet drives in 2 more. Walks do matter.
Even though it’s only “old and worn” Pollock starting, Matos was feeling heat for not recently performing and came through.
Wilmer’s swing from the side looks like a rubber band that is stretched back and fired…
He’s having his 2021 bore core year.
Speaking of “ old and worn” Crawford can still make highlight reel plays. He just saved a run scoring with that beautiful play..

Yeah, Mr. Ed’s got that almost mechanistic process where he cocks his weight for the swing and then releases. Used to see an old training video for youngsters where they follow that: back, cock, spring, etc. Wilmer is the only MLer I’ve seen use it. Dude’s a professional hitter.
Conforto’s a rally-killer tonight.
I’m sure Conforto will get a really big hit or two later in the season, maybe, but he’s been the object of some verbal abuse in the James household the last month or so.
Wonder if he’ll opt out.
Another year of Disco for $ 12M…
His numbers are terrible at Oracle, that’s the only slim bit of hope for that, if he doesn’t turn it around.
Well the Drury is out on Wood he continues to suck..
He lost it as a starter and he can’t find it as a bulk guy. Or, in Kap’s more optimal phrasing, as a featured guy.
Wilmer!
Wilmet!
Horse of the Year!
You don’t fuck with the HORSE!!
Mr.ED is always CLUTCH!!
Bombs away Wilmer!!
Four pitchers tonight, they’ve all stunk.
Pick your poison – Drury is 3 for 4.
That kid filling in for Trout, Moniak, is good. His OPS is up there with Trout’s. He was a number one draft pick (by Phil, Kap knew him there). He’s finally stretching out.
Matos looked good on that drive to the gap.
Farhan in defensive mode trying to justify lack of deadline deals. If ownership and management have no faith in this team, why should fans? Farhan’s explanation that a new starting pitcher would match 14-4 win percentage of their openers sheer, arrogant fantasy. As if that luck will continue! Openers have lost two since the deadline. It is NOT sustainable to start openers every two games out of five!! And what happens if Webb or Cobb go down?? This team may squeak into a wild card with 86-90 wins, but they won’t make any noise in the playoffs. They need STARS.
RE: the implosion of the Pac-12, here is a factoid from the Wash Post today, talking about the fallout that may impact non-football sports:
“If the Pac-12 was its own country in the Tokyo Olympics, it would have finished second in the medal count behind the United States.”
