A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Merry Christmas Flappers!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on December 25, 2023

I said I would do an off season thread when something big happened and that hasn’t really happened but it’s Christmas and I just thought I’d check in.

So far the off season is going about as predictable as most Zaidi’s off season’s go. We missed out on the two studs from Japan and of course BOTH of them and their 1 billion dollar price tag went to LA. Slusser said “the Giants were in the mix until the very end” on Yamamoto. If I have to hear that bullshit one more time….

Buster caused quite a stir a couple of weeks ago suggesting that one reason big $$$ free agents don’t want to sign here is because San Francisco has become a cesspool and when prospective players and their families walk around The City they’re turned off by the visuals. Look, you might not want to hear it but that is very likely happening. SF is a shell of what I remember it to be as a kid. Every time I go up there now I see human shit on the sidewalk. And businesses have left in droves. For good reason, the cops treat all thefts as misdemeanors and don’t even get me started how fucked up that is. I wouldn’t run a business in SF either.

We did have one noteworthy signing– Jung Hoo Lee! Come on down! I recognize the possible massive pothole this could turn out to be as the Korean League is hardly comparable to MLB. But this guy has wheels and if we learned anything last year it is that teams like Arizona have left us in the dust when it comes to athleticism. We have to get faster and more athletic. PERIOD. So, while it’s a lot of cash it’s at least a start. I’ll be cautiously optimistic on this dude.

We also signed a back up catcher who I like a lot. Tom Murphy has a big time right handed power stroke for a catcher and we need more power. Power and Speed. We need all we can get. And goodbye Joey Bart, as with so many others I am bummed we never traded you.

Where does Farhan go from here? God, I hope he doesn’t panic and overpay for Snell. That dude is primed for another one of his “off again” seasons. Honestly, after watching the Giants fail to land a big fish as I knew they weren’t going to be able to do I haven’t been too interested in following who else is out there. The Dodgers crushed us once again this off season and it’s almost ludicrous to see us competing with them comparing both teams as they are currently put together.

But hey, it’s Christmas. Time to appreciate what we have. Katie’s 89 year old grandpa George died 2 weeks ago. That was a huge loss for our family. I loved that man. But we are all together today to celebrate what we do have not what we do not.

You guys hang in there and I’ll check back in if the Giants do anything. Otherwise see you in the Spring for another year of getting thrashed and having our hopes and dreams crushed. LOL. Ok, maybe not that bad. But those 3 beauties, which I always said I was fine selling my soul for, don’t have the same shine on them that they once had. Kinda miss my soul a little bit right now if I’m being honest……

Merry Xmas you all…Giants off season going pretty much as expected and Ohtani going tot the Flodgers was a certainty but losing Yamamoto to them really stings. I really prioritize Bellinger over Snell. I fear we get into a pissing match for Snell and way overspend as Flav articulates. Some have dismissed going after Bellinger after signing Lee because will play CF but that is loser thinking. Lee can certainly man a corner and Bellinger can play first when Wade sits against lefties. Enjoy the rest of your days off Flappers…

To me makes more sense to pursue Burnes in a trade than overspending on Snell…they throw Adames into the mix and give Luciano more time in Sacto good with me…

Checked in here on a whim this morning (Dec. 26th here now) and here you are. Good to see you. And merry Christmas to everyone in Flap Universe. As for the G’s, yes, Lee is probably a very good pickup, but it’s what Z does with the dozen or so other mediocre OFers that interests me now. As in, cut those you cannot trade. Still need another good bat or 2, and still need another good starting pitcher or 2. That’s a lot. Let’s see if he can do it. And happy new year!

GH and Asian Paul. Well done on signing in today. And the Niners are going to win this game as long as Purdy stops throwing 3 picks a half. 🙂

I’ve checked in here a few times on the possibility… 🙂 Hopefully there will be something worth discussing soon. And yeah, 3 interceptions a half is a bit much…

This debacle reminds me of the losing streak. Their game plans after a bunch of wins suck. Of course, the many stupid penalties also suck.

Giants can make many moves before opening day. Let’s hope they do.

As my Buddhist friends say, may we all cool the fires of greed and hatred and live with integrity.

    Best to everyone here.

Very shocked how unprepared the Niners seem to have been for this game…ugly. That first int as the Niners were marching really changed the momentum.

really disappointing Niner game. Not sure what to make of that. Definitely some bad luck but also bad play and, as GH noted, seemingly unprepared. Flush it? Or a sign of bad things to come?

Win last 2 and they have #1 seed. Go from there. Sorry for your loss. Happy Holidays to all!

In defense of Posey, Baggs in TA had long column in which he pointed out that what Posey said was there was negative “perception” about SF. As Baggs noted Posey and missus moved back here from South to raise 4 kids because this is where they want to live and have kids grow up.
Obviously SF has issues like all big cities and it’s smaller than most so less places to hid them.
And we all know politics of SF, Newsom and California in general are fair game for certain ilk.

As I noted on Chuck’s site, I was in SF last Sunday (missed AZ game) to coach basketball at gym in J Town. That necessitated cruise from 9th street exit across town from Ellis St. to Laguna (iirc general area Mayor Breed grew up) and up to Geary parking garage before you get to Fillmore. Walked across Peace Plaza to Sutter, and once rain cleared nice sunny December day with plenty of people out, fairly typical weather for SF.

As for Giants, lot of FAs that could help them are still available, SPs especially where Baggs has said SF shopping at top end, and they have glut of OFs and pitching prospects that could be involved in possible trades to fortify lineup. See what happens, and cheers everyone/safe travels if you are moving around state/country/world.

Santa Anita opens back up today too.
Flavien Prat Irad Junior Alvarado Frankie Dettori in town riding, bunch of stakes races with Baffert Brad Cox and Michael McCarthy trained horses and others entered. Good stuff.

Merry post-Christmas early winter hello to all and Happy New Year. I’m seriously thinking of hitting Phoenix sometime late Feb or early March for a few days and see some games, and some sun…

Hey now, a holiday edition of the Flap. Hope y’all’s Pa Rum Pum Pum Pum was merry. Also, I hope that Lee turns into a stud CFer and baserunners don’t run wild on Murphy when he’s catching. Zaidi needs to get back to work, still need a frontline starting pitcher who isn’t a Seahawk loving Snell and a bat with some pop. Cheers.

Snarkk, how has to move north treated you? Have you adjusted to all that rain?

    • snarkk said, on December 28, 2023 at 11:37 am

      Not yet.
The rain is in and out, really. As long as there’s a bit of sun once in a while, I’m dealing with it.
It’s the darkness that’s not cool. Up here about 40 miles from the Canada border, it gets dark way early in winter and stays dark a long time. Gotta get my vitamin D3 on…

      • Flavor said, on December 28, 2023 at 7:22 pm

darkness can be worse than the rain or clouds. I get it I lived in portland for 3 years. Hang in there.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all!!

Disappointing to me is that Posey even went there. The front office for 30 years has been trotting out excuse after excuse as to why FAs don’t sign here. Weather, stadium (the Stick AND Oracle), taxes, politics, housing prices, freaks and hairies, now crime?

This is just another diversion to hang the cheapskatedness on.

As for the Niners? Strange that they came out throwing so much. It worked great until it didn’t. We didn’t get our 1st TD until they started running CMC. By then what could have been 21 points only ended up as 12. The first pick was the bad one.

Another concerning thing is, like in 2 of the other 3 losses (shoulda won the Cleveland game), once shit started going south, Shanahan had little to offer in the way of adjusting to what the opposition was doing.

0-40 in 4th quarter games down 8 or more points. Scary.

And sorry to hear about your grandfather, Craig. Our condolences.

thanks man, and it was Katie’s grandpa not mine. It was her mom’s dad. But we were super close.

love this song so much. I saw them earlier that year (I think it was May) at Laguna Seca. Still one of the best weekends of my life

I remember one New Years Eve at the Cow Palace when the Allman Brothers played instead of the Dead. The Dead played somewhere in NY but Jerry and Kreutzmann flew back to close out the show with the Allman Brothers. BG came down from the rafters as the New Year Baby, don’t remember what time the show ended but I did end up at Zims on Market and Van Ness completely blasted with hookers, cabbies and cops. As Dr John would say “Such a night”.
