Who Started?
Super busy yesterday, missed the entire game. Can someone explain why SF used this guy to start the game? Faulton whatever his name is. Why didn’t we use Mason Black or Carson Whisenhunt? Like, actual prospects. We aren’t in a division where we have the luxury of just gift wrapping wins for our villainous opponents.
I did not get to watch either but this was the result of the last second Snell signing and not being ready for that opening series. Daulton (was that his name??) should be headed straight to the SD bus station with a one way ticket to somewhere far far away. Let’s see if Winn is 100% tonight…
New guy Avila K’d Ohtani then gave up 2 more run scoring hits. K’d Muncy too but little too late.
Neither Black nor Whisenhunt are on 40, yet and Jeffries stay not likely. Both still in Sac. Listened to some of Melvin on pregame and he said Jeffries wasn’t going to be in there long anyway, nor Teng. This was planned start in advance as Melvin told Jeffries he would get nod 4 days ago per Baggs in TA.
Snell had good outing vs. AA guys and will be ready for next turn. Sounds like Cobb still to follow. Maybe that factors in on what to do with Black and Whis too.
i thought they ditched bart from 40 to add Jeffy. If that was correct they could have done that with Whisenhunt or Black
Correct.
A happier alternative fate had Ahmed at short.
Saw nice story on Whis from Jesus Cano @nlb.com. Went 3 scoreless innings yesterday for Sac, 1 hit 6 Ks. 95 on sinker and had changeup working .
if that’s the new format for Connections then i am done with that game
actuslly this is probably just some stupid April fools thing
Hah! It was pretty easy.
They don’t want to start Black or Whis due to that free agent clock running thing, is my guess. So, they’re willing to start a guy who is not an MLB quality arm, and take a loss instead. If they lose a WC spot by one game, remember this one. In my book, there’s 162 games, and you play to win each one. You don’t just throw a game away…
Connections was impossible for me. First guess was easy, then I crashed. I hope it was a prank, just like the Jeffries start.
Ask the Sun Dressed Goddess.
SF majorly F’d Bart up by bringing him up way too early due to Buster bagging it for the Covid year. That set him back badly. Hopefully, but not likely, SF gets something from another team to take Bart before the DFA turns into an outright release in 10 days. It will be really unfortunate if they get nothing for a former 2nd overall pick. I think Bart will be with some major league club for at least half this season — this spring he proved he’s at least a serviceable catcher at the MLB level…
If it’s any comfort, this guy started a game for SF in 2012

It was a quality start, James!

I like Connections but there’s often one worthless line, e.g. To Hear But Bell. Body parts missing the last letter. Wtf cares?
I hate when they do that obscure nonsense.
I devised that off the top of my head in about thirty seconds. But if it were part of the game, I’d be stumped. I’d get it only by default after I solved the other three lines. It’s not hard to be pointlessly tricky. But I think some of the puzzles are entertainingly tricky. .

If I were a GM and read this article, I wouldn’t want to call Belt, either. He sounds like a guy who has earned a bunch of cash in the MLB, isn’t sure he still wants to play, and didn’t want to bother to go through ST to actually earn a spot on a roster. If he really loved the game he would have gone. He instead wanted a major league deal handed to him. I’ve always been a Belt backer, but with his history of injury and going on 36, that seems to be a bad, if not preposterous, POV. I wonder what his agent told him, if he still has one…
He’s a lucky bastard to make all the sctratch he did. Mad Bum has more gravitas surrounding him to get a shot.
Belt has just been a guy.
Loo & James, one year ago today:

the shot clock debacle heard round the flap? well, near debacle.
Just got this today:
“Last chance! Score $4.01 tickets today”
Of 166 players on the IL last Thursday, 132 were pitchers. 79.5 percent. My buddy who related this to me, a Mets fan, attributes this to the pitch clock. I would have to say that’s not easily proven, that lots of other factors enter in to it.
not a bad theory but we’d need to compare that to the last 5 years or so to see if 79.5% is a huge number or not
many analytical articles on that. Also, mlb’s own propaganda and Max Scherzer’s hysteria. Arms being as precious as they are, you know the bean counters are working 24/7 on the risk/benefit graphs. Exciting new pace vs competent pitching population. Something like that. I was surprised they shaved two seconds off the runner on base clock this year.
Manaea making minced meat of the Tigers right now. It’s really too bad Z pissed him off to the point of not wanting to return. But maybe that was more Kap and the lame way he used him
Yeah, I think Manaea’s departure had more to do with Kap shifting Sean to opener games, which seemed to screw him up a bit. He did better once reinstalled as a starter, but it was too late…
I liked Manaea, just got off to rough start.
I looked up game logs, and by May 10 ERA was almost 8. Giants got blasted by Nats 11-6, Manaea gave up 8 runs 4 earned in 2.2. He’d made 5 starts and given up 15 runs in 22 innings.
At that point Kap ended him starting, til he finished season with 4 good ones in September. Unlike Wood he never complained publicly, just went about his job and got ERA down to more respectable numbers.
Melvin and Manea were close in OAK and SD. Those Mexico City innings got him off to bad start last year. Missed opportunity this year, I think. I liked him.
Yaz back , Matos back to Sac
Tigers finally got a hit off Manaea, but runner thrown out at home to end the inning.
Uniforms look like shit this year…
At least they ain’t the Pads unis.
Of all the guys we tossed after last year, Manaea was one I thought we shoulda kept.
Darren Daulton can go back to Philly.
Slater. Now he’s really just a guy whose time has passed.
Not a good game for Wilmer.
After that DP, I am officially a Slater Hater.
Zzzzzzzzzzz.
I don’t think I like baseball that much anymore. Maybe 60 years is enough…
Lol. At least it’s faster now. I used to have to wait till 11:00 to be disappointed.
It used to just begin for me at 11:00…
Be nice to beat up on someone else’s bullpen.
Geez that 1 hour flight from San Diego should’ve not affected the bats this much?
Can’t believe how they let Paxton off the hook every inning..
No shit.
Hey now. A faint pulse.
Ahmed looking like the terrible hitter he’s been on that last K.
That Jim Beam “Sweet Caroline” commercial refuses to go away.
I hated it in the 70s, i hate is at weddings, and I hate it now . . .
Oooops. That faint pulse was quickly quashed by the pen.
well that was a Rogers riser.
This bullpen blows.
There you go. 5″ inside.
Flores lurching toward the platinum turd-blossom.
Oh, yeah!
WTF?
Our tomato can bullpen is a problem.
Every veteran in the bullpen had a good year last year and most of them have been good more than a single year. There’s no reason for them to suck other than that some fans declare the bullpen to be a problem and the Gods decide to honor that judgment for no logical reason whatsoever.
Jesus 5 games into the season and the Giants have brought up all the 2nd string pitchers except for Trevor McDonald&Randy Rodriguez from their 40 man roster! Are they next up in the revolving audition roles???It makes no sense to me?
