Opening Day!
Only quibble is that we are playing the Padres again. Also, playing at a .286 clip kinda sucks. But whatever! It’s Opening Day!
I think I’ve only been to one of these. 1999? Stick was packed that day.

I always loved Opening Day. When I moved to NC in 08, I had already moved out of my place and shipped all my stuff, but I moved into the Hyatt so I could go to OD, flew out the next day. Went back in 2011 for OD to see em raise the championship flag. That was the best one ever.
Hicks is going today, Soler is getting his swing on, I’m gonna fire up some brats and crack open a few Sierra Nevadas. Happy New Year all.
I went to one OD at the Stick in late ’90s, against Rockies. In my Boston years, it was a holiday, an awakening, after 6 or 7 months of no color in the world other than mud, dirty snow, and grey skies. Walking up that ramp at Fenway as the field came into view, man, all that green. Of course, they often had to plow snow off the outfield grass so we could see all that green…
Opening Day Rumbles: We just experienced 4.7 earthquake centered 35 miles north of my home. House visibly shook for perhaps 10 seconds. Dropped off work call unceremoniously, ran downstairs and exited house.
I realize 4.7 nothing compared to more severe earthquakes many of you have endured in California but for novice northeasterner it briefly rattled my aging nerves.
Let’s hope Giants experience implosion of different variety this afternoon. How bout 6 shutdown innings from Hicks and Soler and Chapman giving Kuip reason to yell “Outta Here”.
Yikes just saw that on news. Great day for baseball as Giants begin first homestand, hope everyone safe and sound.
Yeah, I felt that here in Jersey. I was at a HS lacrosse game, incredibly the visiting team was a school from Marin County, they must”ve felt right at home.
Sun’s out in south bay but should be “pitching weather” Kruk loves in SF, sunny w clouds and mid 50s. Webb had comments in Chron about new sound system at the O and how he thought how loud Petco was helped fire up Padres.
stiff wind blowing out toward CF and RF right now, I think. It’ll only get stronger.
I think Denard Span had a great OD
Maybe Kent too
In 22, the Giants opened the season at home, not on the road. Full of hope after the 107 win season, I attended. Thrilling extra inning game. Giants chased Alcántara after 5. Webb pitched brilliantly through 6. Joey and Belt and Thairo homered. Slater laced a lightning bolt double down the LF line in the tenth and Ruff, huffing like a steam locomotive, scored the winning run from first. Great experience.
Turned out to be the highlight of the season, of course. Getting that high on day one sort of intensified the relentless disappointment that followed. So, now I’m ambivalent about opening days. I’ll be in my living room this afternoon.
iirc, CBA stalemate lockout delayed the start of the season in 22. Thus the sunny game at home.
Opening Day Baby nothing like it let’s take it to the Padres!
My friend Devon is stoked who will be out in the cove ( yellow Kayak) as she’s said to me Hoo’s ready for opening day? She’s pulling for Lee to hit one to her! She got a Crowenworth splash hit a couple years back and got to meet him ( he wanted that ball badly) for a signed bat, baseball, batting glove .. Imagine what a Lee splash hit could haul in?? ⚾️🚣♂️🧡🖤Go Giants!!!
Cubs knocked B Miller out in 2nd, and have homered off replacement Lamet. Lead Dogs 6-2 in 3rd.
Get that run back, Giants.
grandson of the wind.
That a way, tied it up.
Hey now. A walk finally hurts the opposition. Conforto should be on 3rd.
Stay hot tho.
Nice quick 2nd for Hicks.
I think Ahmed is using a little league bat…
I think all SDs hits have been on 2-strike counts.
Wow, there’s flopping in baseball now!
Tatis Jr. knocks Estrada over at 2b. DP ends funky inning.
Tatis is as big an asshole as is machado.
just went final Cubs win 9-7.
I think Tatis is an idiot base runner! Thanks for the DP on clearly interfering with Estrada…
It already feels like another we’re seeing some good things loss.
Williams and conforto fucked up that one
Speaking of little league…
Yeah Xoot Williams just froze like a statue, no signal at all.Still Conforto should know unless your Dion Sanders it’s one base only.
Giants base running sophomoric. Team not good enough to give away runs on bases.
They are swinging through a lot of sliders towards the middle of the zone. I guess they are not hanging.
that’s how cease neutralizes Soler I guess.
e.g.
Conforto’s on fire.. 3 doubles.
The one off the wall was only a single Chuck but yeah Conforto is blasting the ball right now!
Conforto says I can handle the slider and anything else Cease throws I’m that hot!
Missed that homer by a few feet in height dammit..
Great outing for Hicks, solid 7 still throwing 97-98 at end of it.
a few mistakes from Hicks–two hangers in the first inning, badly botched DP throw to 2B later– led to the two runs. Otherwise, what a fine game. I sort of like it when he gets pissed off and starts throwing 98+.
that was a clever play by Bailey. Tatis didn’t have a clue.
Ballgame!!
Thairo!
and Chapman and Williams. Wow.
Better combination then Conforto&Williams for sure…
great ending
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Walk it off Thairo!
Thairo shoelaces!
YES!
Hicks looking like the real deal. 7 strong.
One walk in 12 innings so far.
Clutch walk off for Thario who really needed that!
Ball was smoked and Chapman great read!!
Wow. Torrential downpour here in the Creek.
Shit, now we got thunder and lightning.
Wow where did that come from Chuck?
Blue skies mostly but windy in San Carlos..
my son was at the game. Club level. His texts went wild in the ninth.
Ha, awesome .
Despite couple earky inning stumbles, Hicks has 2nd straight solid performance. 12 innings over 2 games with 11 K’s, only 1 BB and 0.75 ERA. Conforto off to sizzling start while Chapman defensive whiz, important RBI grounder in 6th and smart base running in 9th. Finally some intelligent base running.
Deebo & Fred need to keep day job with Niners.
Purely luck Warner didn’t clock Pat the Bat.
Happy for the whole organization a good win on opening day gotta love it.
