Winn Day
I have always liked this guy and had confidence in him. He looks like he’s turning a corner and that would be huge for us this season. I hope his arm can handle all those splitters he’s throwing. If it can, look out, we got a legit MLB starter in this rotation.
I did not get to watch and sounds like he pitched well enough. I still don’t have long term confidence him being a top 3 guy and the splitter will eventually get to his arm. I would be happy to shop him this summer if it brought a solid prospect back. Him and Conforto if we are just treading water?
he’s not getting shopped this Summer. He’ll be our #2 or #3 at that point
if he is going to be out #2 or #3 by summer over Snell Cobb Hicks or Ray then the season will indeed be over early. I watched the highlights now and think good performance but will be shocked if he is top tier in his career.
cobb doesn’t even count. Frankly neither does ray. And Snell needs to get his shit together. But he could easily be a strong #3 by summer
Yeah Flav, Winn was great. Only 10th start of his career. 6+ solid innings, 4 hits 1 BB allowed, 10 ground ball outs. Hustled over to 1b on ground balls to right side picked by Flores. Nice column in TA from Baggs on help he’s gotten and what he’s learned from Alex Cobb on splitter etc.
i love his shit.
Webb Hicks Winn Snell Harrison seems entirely feasible by mid season. All part of the gelling process.
this surprised me a bit:

Teh weather has been nice in the few games this season. But it isn’t tickets used, it’s ticket sold. Not sure how big a diff that is, but when the team started its freefall, the difference was big. Went to a game with my son that the supposed attendance was 32,000 but there couldn’t have been more than 16,000. It was a crushing loss to the D-Backs. By the 5th inning it was about 7,000.
season ticket dump was management’s fear after last year’s debacle. I guess they weathered that storm in their quest to break even.
A lot of the seats were sold with seat licenses. When they opened in 2000, I think there were 15,000 Charter Members. My 2 seats in the Club section cost me $5,000 each, if I opted not to reup my season tickets every year, I would have lost that 10 grand. If I didn’t go to a game the Giants didn’t mind because the tickets were paid for in advance.
yeah. My generous season seat owner friend dumped hers this past winter. She started in 2000.
Yeah xoot, I started paying the Giants before the park was built (95?), I had to pay them off by 2000 and buy the season tickets for that year. When I moved to NC in 08 I sold em to my friend that I sat next to.
I got the impression my friend had no trouble finding buyers for hers.
Ray and Cobb put to pasture?
i just don’t even consider them till they come back. Cobb is already hurt again. I’m sure he’s done for the year.
Lee Maye led the NL in doubles in 1964. Not to be confused with Lee May, brother of Carlos…
Funny how sometimes everything clicks in one season for ballplayer, right? Looking him up on B/R that was best year of his career though he last played MLB 1971 after being traded few times. Braves of 64 had one of best hitting team in NL, second in HRs despite Aaron only having 24. Joe Torre was there, Felipe Alou too.
Angel Pagan led mlb in triples in 2012 and played a decent CF all year long. Key part of the WS season.
RP Nick Avila back to Sacramento Rivercats
Giants activate RP Luke Jackson from DL
Hope he’s got his mind right…
Watched DVD “It Ain’t Over” on Yogi Berra, really enjoyable story.
Law, pitching for the Nats, gave up one run in his 2/3 of an inning vs. the Dodgers. Who would have predicted that in 2024 the MLB careers of Law and Duffy would still be going?
that doughy fuck Law is still pitching? And it’s a stretch to say Duffy *is still playing*. I haven’t checked if he got picked up but wasn’t he recently DF’a?
He’s in the Rangers organization.
Romo joining pregame crew today.
he’ll be good. His radio interviews on knbr morning back in the day were the best part of that show.
Idiotic base-running by Gallo botched a great 9th inning rally the Nats had going. Completely inexcusable and stupid, especially from a longtime veteran. Running with his head down and unaware of anything except his own idiocy. Instead of the bases loaded and one out, the Nats ended up with first and second and two out.
He ran unnecessarily to a base that already had a baserunner on it. Little league stuff. What a buffoon.
Gallo modestly based in the Central Valley is the largest producer of California wines. Long way from Ripple and Carli Rossi red, beloved jug wine of 60s era Calif HS students. If you haven’t sat cross legged in an orchard and tipped a jug of Gallo CR Red Mountain toward the moon, well ….
“Unaware of anything except his own idiocy”
Stupendous!
Sorry, I just don’t get that kind of stupid base-running from a guy that’s been playing as a professional for many years. It literally looked like he was throwing the game for gamblers, which I know he wasn’t. But still.
Wow Z, that sounds a remarkably dumb move by Gallo, I will check it on the ‘condensed game.’
It’s frustrating because they had the Dodger closer Phillips unraveling and it totally saved him.
Earlier in the game, two Nats got picked off base. Just a really sucky low baseball IQ team.
Having said that, the Nats’ Abrams is the kind of young talented player we dream of for the Giants.
meanwhile, Giants have a hit and at last a base runner.
looked like Bailey was looking opp field the entire AB. Didn’t work. But Thairo and yaz punch through!
3 runs for Webb!
wow nothing like getting Severino in stretch finally
Mets announcer said of Seve’s 8 warmup pitches that inning, only 1 was from the stretch.
apparently. But in general doesn’t it get tougher as the perfecto inches on? Hard to adjust later?
Webb really rolling.
yes. He’s expecting to contend for the cy again. Back in 19-20 I never imagined this. I credit Buster in 21 for a lot of his development
He’s unflappable and really knows how to pitch. Doesn’t care about lighting up the gun. Plus he uses a double hinged web on his glove, which I always liked…
stupendous! from the verb stupeō (“(I) am stunned”) … and related to stupor and stupid. I guess we beat this dead horse dead.
Well he made up for it being in the stretch the whole inning..
McNeil was the pussy that started it all, he could of easily laid out on that Texas leaguer to LF which opened the floodgates..
No matter what game I put on (Giants, Mets, Yanks) there is always a player that I absolutely never heard of in the game at some point…
Wendle?
Mac the mind reader…
Geez Krukow what was the risk? It’s the easy play for Wade cutting down Alonso at 2nd base( by plenty)It’s correct fundamental baseball Meat..
Hernandez gushed a little too…
More top-notch 1B play!
Thairo stung that and Yaz knocks him in!
Yaz on his annual save his job run…
For sure Loo!
Slater and Murphy next on the list of steaming dogshit infuriating the clubhouse..
Enjoying Lindor killing their rallies?
You know it!
He was swinging at everything.
Game before he swung at pitch that bounced in dirt in front of him.
Yaz plays a great RF, has a good arm, runs with speed–and bats LH. Slater esp so long as he can’t hit a lick is more expendable.
Alright Webb, hell of a game.
Slater is safe he’s the teams players Union rep that nobody else would want..
Does that still matter, Kat? Seems like more of a 60’s, 70’s thing, idk…
I can pitch eight shut out.
what? What? You all hear that? He say he can pitch eight shut out!
who’s takin the bets. Yeah I want in on this!
I’m takin the bets. Babaloogats you get the money! Okay! What’s you wanna go and say eight shut out, Webb? Why not seven?
Seemed like a nice round number.
Cool Hand Webb!
Glad you fixed Babaloogats. I wasn’t gonna nitpick for once…
yeah. Hopper deserves the best. IMO.
Nice job by Webb, very nice. Too bad he had just over 100 pitches, else he could have tried for the shutout…
Greatest job in sports is being a starting pitcher who pitches well and gets to spend the next four days just hanging out and grooving on the good vibe.
And here comes Tyler Rodgers to ruin the vibe Zumie
Bad twin.
Can we please stop the Tyler Rogers bullshit, ruining a shutout…
doesn’t Rogers RH seem susceptible to fatigue despite the low velo? IRRC he pitches better with rest.
and then he usually pitches well
Dats a win.
Webb mastery!
Dovall in and cleans up the Rogers mess…
sweep tomorrow and rest Thursday.
Doval changes gloves a lot. I wonder why…
Beauty of slider for K and then Doval closes things out on ground ball to Chapman.
Yep, already have the series won, so get the broom out tomorrow. Would be sweet to sweep the Mets, and get to within 1 of back to .500 …
2 hours and 10 minutes.
What am I supposed to do for the next 3 hours?
A good book!
I just might try that…
twin used to recommend May Sarton.
Never heard that name but what do I know? Up until last week I thought Hep C was an energy drink…
Beat the Mets, beat the Mets,
Step right up and sweep the Mets.
Bring your kiddies, bring your wife,
Guaranteed to have the time of your life.
I’m surprised the Mets theme song hasn’t been canceled yet…
The Clippers and Mavs are playing some seriously ugly basketball.
Doncic straight-arms defenders when he drives to the basket and still complains to the refs.
Yaz not trying to pull everything just might work.
I would love to know the impact on concessions at the ballpark that the shortened games have had. I heard a couple of complaints from beer vendors last year…
mmm, Baer’s bean counters all over that I’d imagine. sales per hour per person and units per transactions etc. Fewer hours of operations = cut in staffing expenses.
