A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

His Last Name Isn’t “NoDecision”

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 29, 2024

It’s Winn. As in “all he does is…..”. I’m telling you, this dude is gonna be a solid #3 for us and possibly even a #2. And we are going to need him and any other available quality pitcher if we are going to keep running out this shit hitting offense. 3 runs? Yep, that’s all you get Winn, go make it happen.

20th in the league in bombs, 24th in SB’s. Once again, when faced with the question of “Would you rather be strong or fast?” we meekly answer “we shall be neither….”

Going back to the post-covid season and watching Kapler’s baseball strategy and being an immediate skeptic, I was preaching I would like to see a speedy Giants team being what we rolled out on the field that could get on base, take bases, move runners along, etc. Old school NL baseball and Farhan has just not developed a team that could play that kind of baseball. The 107 win 2021 season made everyone in the org and many of the fans if not Flappers think that was the path to success offensively. I’m old school and would like to see a team getting on base and manufacturing runs any possible way. I have not watched enough of Melvin to see if he can manage that kind of team and we certainly dont have enough of those type of players on the big-league roster. I dont know if we have enough of those type of players in the system either. Fitzgerald has all the attributes. Does he need to get more starts?

They haven’t drafted for speed ever. The SHOULD get Lee going as he seems to be a legit stealer and seems smart enough to figure it out.

Fitzy’s pretty wild at SS/2nd with his throwing. He’s got 4 errors already in the IF so far and nearly had 2 throwing errors yesterday.

      3 hits too.

Leave him in the outfield and get rid of Slater.

James and Chuck both with Ws on home stand. Very cool. Hopefully more of us can get out to local yard.

Giants currently have fewer Ls than Padres and DBax. AZ hosts LA tonight, so somebody loses.

Contributing factor to yesterday’s W was HR from Yaz, 9-22 on homestand w 2 HRs 8 rbis. And of course back in town to catch up with grandfather and family on day off today.

I really dig those Southside black pinstripes WhiteSox’s City Connect Jerseys to bad they can’t play baseball in any uniforms they put on though..

Yeah, those are the only ones I like. Dear old mom and dad are Southsiders.

The Reds are an early season dream team for combined speed and power. Their offense is pretty terrible, but they’re scoring nearly 5 runs a game. Incarnacion-Strand is the anti-Soler, compiling 16 RBI while sucking worse than any Giants hitter not named Slater. Elly for MVP! Those absurd team stats won’t last over 162 games, but it’ll be interesting to see how it breaks for them – will the stats catch up with the offensive output or will continued ineptitude dampen the scoring?

    https://www.si.com/mlb/diamondbacks/offense-is-down-across-mlb-and-rob-manfred-cant-be-happy

”OPS correlates to team-level run scoring more than any other statistic. 24 points of OPS is a significant drop. League-wide OPS has not been below .700 since 1989. It appears that the efforts of MLB to increase batting average through the elimination of the shift is not working either.”

“Clearly the league’s effort to increase base hits on balls in play through the elimination of the shift has not worked.”

There’s nothing baseball related I’ve read lately that has given me more satisfaction than that last quote.

But visually it’s helped the sport. Watching lefthanded hitters ground out to short right field was ugly baseball.

    • zumiee said, on April 29, 2024 at 8:10 pm

Guys like Max Muncy playing second base was ugly, unathletic baseball.

Thanks James , fascinating. Column in Chron today Giants pitching coach Price talked about decreased use of 4 seam fastball vs. pitches with more movement. Hicks earlier talked about this, hunting ground balls at expense of Ks as he transitions to starting role.

      • xoot said, on April 29, 2024 at 8:57 pm

Hicks uses his 100 mph four seamer now when he has to get out of a jam. It’s like calling in a closer for a batter or two, then when he’s clear he’s back to masterful movement again.

I wonder if DPs are up.

      • xoot said, on April 29, 2024 at 10:25 pm

well, the GDP rate in 23 was up a bit from 22, but so far this season it’s back to the 22 level. Maybe it seems like there are more because they’re all more traditional looking.

A cowardly Arizona reliever comes in and walks three straight Dodgers.

    • zumiee said, on April 29, 2024 at 8:05 pm

The inning does not go well.

    • zumiee said, on April 29, 2024 at 8:11 pm

And the coward walks another one.

      • zumiee said, on April 29, 2024 at 8:12 pm

Oh, it was a different coward.

Bye Bye Lakers as Jamal Murray hits Game winner for the second time in the series as Nuggets easily move on 4-1..Life is always better when a LA team loses!!

Lakers lose despite shooting 27 free throws to Denver’s 9.
