Destroyed in Boston
Just an awful showing last night. For a month our stud starting pitchers have masked the pathetic offerings of the offense. On a rare night when Webb didn’t have it and he turned to the O for answers they came up emptier than Wimpy sadly displaying his pockets.
And tonight it will not get better as that joker Jefferies some how is getting another start. Why don’t we let one of our exciting young starters from the minor leagues start this game?
Would liked to have seen Mason Black get start but whatevs. Giants were fortunate enough to hold Sox scoreless in 4 1/3 after Webb left. Took Roupp 45 pitches in 2 innings but he did shut them out, as did Hjelle and Taylor Rogers.
BoSox SP tonight K Crawford has ERA of 1.35 in 33 innings. Cubs beat him in last start, as he allowed 10 hits 4 runs 3 earned in 6 innings, but previous 4 starts he only gave up 2 runs in 20 innings.
Has allowed 11 BBs but 34 Ks 0 HRs. League only hitting .210 off him.
Looking for bright spots.. It was somewhat cool to see an almost triple play. I also have a Fenway triple play story. Actually, the double triple play story. Must’ve been ’90 or ’91, Twins were in town, and I took my Irish girlfriend Geraldine O’Connell and two of her friends, who of course had never been to a baseball game and also of course knew very little about baseball (I remember Geraldine feeling so sad for the starting pitcher when they took him out mid-game or so, “How can they do that to him? Everybody’s watching!”)…. So, much of the time, I was explaining things that were happening. They were enjoying themselves.
Then the Twins pulled a triple play. The lassies could tell by the crowd reaction that something strange had happened, and I told them yeah, don’t see that very often, first time I’d seen it in person, explained why it was so unusual. Then it happened again a few innings later. “Two times, ay Paul? Brilliant!” Later that night at the local pub, those girls couldn’t stop talking about those two triple plays, something they’d never even heard of before that evening…
Wow that’s wild.
Looked it up, July 17 1990 as you said, Twins turned 2 TPs same game.
And Twins lost 1-0. Scott Erickson was losing pitcher for Twins. He went to Homestead HS of Cupertino where friends and mentors of mine coached basketball. He also threw no hitter of his own for Twins April 27 1994
Fantastic story Paul! Thanks for the history & education!!
If we can’t gel by the middle of June we will probably continue to have a one step forward and two steps back kind of year. But we should see more of our youngsters contributing as the season moves on.
Bad feeling Hjelle may be as close to gelling as they’ll get. But I remember long ago hearing just make it through April close to .500. So, maybe.
Yep, stranger things have happened. So far it’s hard to pin much of this on the new manager.
No surprise Gints were lifeless with the bats, the starter was a junk baller with an 89 mph heater…
Lead story from G’s mlb site is “What Went Wrong With Webb ..”
Other than the cool alliteration, what a bunch of BS!
BoMel with his usual mouthful of nuthin’ — but Webby, like the stand-up human he is, taking on the burden of defeat with dignity & grace.
Am I the asshole here?
Why are the writers not talking about this deplorable offense?
Gyros have scored 3 runs or less in 16 of 30 total games so far…
YIKES!!!
22.50
In 2020, Jefferies appeared in one game, pitched two innings, gave up 5 earned runs. Ditto March 31st, 2024, hence the 22.50 ERA. The difference is, he also allowed 9 hits and 4 unearned runs.
This is the Melvin Effect. Last year, people criticized Kapler for letting Farhan dictate game management. Now Melvin is the alpha dog, and he was the one who insisted Jefferies be signed and make these two starts.
Vet-itis. I’d have given up on Slater before last season started.
Flav, LMAO on your:” Wimpy sadly displaying his empty pockets “
Maybe all SF Giants players should follow Soler’s lead and have their pockets showing if it would help these inept bats! I don’t see anyway they can win today against Kutter Crawford who has a era of 1.35 33IP 34K’s.1.11Whip
Really the Redsox’s pitching has been amazing leading the entire majors at 1.35 era! Look what are x pitching coach Andrew Bailey in his 1st year has this staff doing.
And the Giants are lucky they don’t have to face Tanner Houck in this series all he’s done 39 IP,41 K’d 1.60 era, 0.915 whip and he had 3 starts of 9K’s, 0 walks that tied a Boston team record with Pedro Martinez in a calendar month!!
So sick of the Giants giving retreads like Jefferies another freaking start(And will get lit up like a Boston Tea Party Massacre )who should not even be on the 40 man active list.Agree with Willied this start should have been Black’s who actually pitches good! Why can’t the Giants see the obvious like Flappers do in getting the best possible players up here..
P/A great story and Damm 2 Triple plays in your game!, that is NUTS!!! I would have been buying triples for those ladies later on!
Baldy, good point that we all know “Why don’t these reporters talk about the hitting? Probably cause they have their mics 🎤 so far up their asses in fear of losing their jobs are having Melvin go off in his frustrated tantrum mode..
How often can you write that their signings have all been underwhelming? Lee at least has been fairly solid offensively and great defensively. Chapman and Soler are varying shades of shit. They should come around at some point but how long will Ramos toil away in obscurity? Even Matos and Luciano. If the vets like Ahmed and Slater continue to suck, bring up the younger guys.
Winn and Hicks are doing great. A shame their efforts get wasted as the offense twiddles while Oracle burns.
“Please, come to Boston for the Springtime
I’m stayin’ here with some friends, and they’ve got lots of room
And you can sell your paintings on the side-walk
By a café where I hope to be workin’ soon
Please, come to Boston
She said, “No, would you come home to me?”
And she said, hey ramblin’ boy, now won’t you settle down?
Boston ain’t your kinda town
There ain’t no gold and there ain’t nobody like me
I’m the number one fan of the man from Tennessee”
Well, I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you’re my home, oh, yeah
‘Cause I love that dirty water
Ooh, oh, Boston, you’re my home, oh, yeah
this is “the Blake snell spot in the rotation” says Flemm. Yeah, and the great slugger Soler is the fearsome DH batting second for some inexplicable reason. Two vacancies.
Caught looking. For the 1,000,000,000th time this year.
has anyone other than Bob Dylan recorded a blues song about Boston or nearby? (I first heard this from Ric von Schmidt. He lives in Cambridge. Ric is a blues guitarplayer. I met him one day on the green pastures of the Harvard University. Baby let me follow you down / Baby let me follow you down / I’ll do anything in this god almighty world if you just let me follow you down )
oh wait the j geils “blues” band. lol.
Chapman should be able to reach the goddman wall
It’s so lonely in the state of Maine
Well they broke up the no hitter!
Already ahead of last night’s pace in hits!
Of course nothing after Lee’s opening hit, pop up 2 K’s looking!
who the fuck is that? What is that shit?
Ballgame!!!!
Hey! Jeffries saves the game. Or Miller. Since that took 84 pitches out of Miller, we’ll force 8 pitches out of Kutter.
“On the ground to Chapman” is good thing to hear as Miller gets inning ending DP
yeah, except for his earliest years with OAK he’s never been a great hitter. Good enough. Some pop. His D is what he’s really here for.
I’m sure the Giants will pull Miller now since it’s always stupid in they’re minds to let him go 2 innings. So now it will be Light Me Up Jefferies to implode..
Murphy leading off next inning .. shits & giggles .. eh, maybe he’ll surprise us.
And he does!!!
excellent call!
Thanks Big Flavor!!
Murph!! Gives it a ride. Wakefield Ave.
Will your head explode if I play Aerosmith, Xoot?
train kept a rollin was great by tiny Bradshaw, better by the original rock and roll trio with Johnny Burnett, and good in the yardbirds cover. Aerosmith’s version sucked. I just ignore it.
That’s my boy! Power!
They’re even worse than I remembered
Flavors boy Murphy up to .107 with that blast 💥
Thank God Miller only gets one while Jeff-fires gets 2.
ferfucksakes
Every time the Giants run pieces of shit like this out there, they’re basically telling the fans that they concede the game. This guy fucking sucks ass.
“Bullpen games” are just one of many shit changes that have been made to the game in recent years. I see no value in them whatsoever.
but it’s “Snell’s spot in the rotation.” It’s only provisional. They say.
OK, but like someone else said, why not take a look at one of the younger prospects? Jeffries hasn’t done squat in his career.
I agree.
that’s stroll on, a sort of weak soundtrack extension of their cover of train kept a rollin. Much as the grandiose movie Blow Up itself was just a pompous adaptation of Julio Cortazar’s brilliant short story.
Blue-eyed Brit blues is 70% crap.
train kept a rollin was big band r n b then rockabilly. Blues is something else. For example, Lennon could imitate rockabilly but he couldn’t handle the blues. Mayall’s bands, original Peter Green FMac, Stones. All good blues bands, tho the stones obviously spread out. (70%?? That’s hilarious. How’d you come up with that guess?)
Oh, I pulled it out of my ass. It’s just fun to wind you up and see you pontificate.
I say that because so many people think Eric Clapton is God when without the rest of Cream he was pretty ordinary. Except for Delaney & Bonnie of course.
It’s more fun to watch you fuck up all the time. You really do lead a charmed life.
Jeffries flat out stinks he throws more balls then strikes and he’s so easy to square up! Fucking Giants wasting a roster spot for this chump!
This clown is getting his ass kicked. Great acquisition, Zaidi.
if we see Hjelle tonight, this road trip is doomed.
Jesus, Melvin. You think you’ve seen enough of jeffries?
Fucking idiot.
Get this POS out now!!
Gawd Jeffries is so depressing to watch!
Fuck 4-2 they let him pitch to the lefty withTaylor Rodgers ready fucking stupidity Melvin!!!
well, this is a first … I actually feel physically ill watching this game. And I’m only following on gameday. Ha!
Stripes..Where’s your drill sergeant Hulka Jeffries? BLOWN UP SIR!!!
2.2 innings 5 hits 4 ER 2 Walks ERA 18.50
Are they just gonna keep trotting this fucker out here? WHY THE FUCK would you just give a game away pitching this loser? This is the 2nd time they’ve given a game away, do they think they’ve got W’s to burn or something?
Another recent addition of a stiff to the ‘pen.
Jeffries,White,Hjelle 3 wasted Roster spots add Slater!
Callup replacements, Luciano,Matos,Ramos&Black is it really that hard to figure out?
This is one of those unendurable games. Chapman’s brilliant play only makes it worse for being irrelevant.
How do you think it works, deciding who stays in SF and who comes up from Sacto? Do Melvin and Z (or the invisible GM) talk often? Does Bob call Z and say “Get me someone who can hit the ball!”, or does he just wait until Z decides to make a move? Could almost see Melvin keeping Jeffries in the game, even though he sucks, as a sort of “Fine, this is who you give me, I’m going to play ’em and he’s gonna suck”, except that apparently Melvin wanted Jeffries. I don’t know; seems the FO is being patient, it’s only been a month. As long as the team is “in it”, which they currently are, they might be thinking there’s no hurry. I’d like to see them pull the trigger on Matos, Ramos, Luciano, Black et al sooner rather than later, because at some point, sub-.500 ball isn’t going to be “in it” anymore…
LA pounds Jordan Montgomery of DBax for 6 runs, including HRs from W Smith and rookie call up Andy Pages. 3rd already for Cuban born OF Pages.
I barely pay attention anymore. I’m too busy doing nothing…
It’s actually amazing how much time and effort it takes to do nothing. I’ve become a master of it myself when I’m not working… .
I knew you would understand…

Here’s that double triple play. Remember it like it was yesterday. 34 years ago?? Sheesh. Wonder where sweet Geraldine is now….
Probably pushing a rollator and torturing her family…
I’d never heard of a rollator. Now I see one on the horizon, tho many years away I think. Thanks a lot.
Paul Auster died the other day. That doesn’t help, either.
I myself have a special empathy for eldest sons tormented by the rollator-bound ….
How many years have we been talking about our terrible offense???? Soler and Chapman have track records to be better than they are. Inevitable that when they start hitting Wade, Hicks, and Winn will cool off. >500 is what we can hope for at this point. I hope we are still alive by mid season when the other starters arrive.
“Well, we were just another band out of Boston
On the road and tryin’ to make ends meet
Playin’ all the bars, sleepin’ in our cars
And we practiced right on out in the street
No, we didn’t have much money
We barely made enough to survive
But when we got up on stage and got ready to play, people came alive”
Ouch.
This one’s for Xoot.
Speaking of shitty blues, Nirvana plays Zep. Can it get ANY worse?
