A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Moronic Decisions

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 2, 2024

Look, I’m not an idiot. I don’t believe in fairy tales or angels or any of that stuff. Although I have seen some recent videos over the years that have me on board with UFO’s. So I know our offense is one of the worst in the league and when you score 2 runs you probably aren’t going to win. But it enrages me that the Giants would have a payroll of 197 million dollars AND legitimate pitching prospects in triple A and yet they still insist on trotting out this abject loser Daulton Jefferies to the mound for a game that counts.

AND THEY HAVE DONE IT FUCKING TWICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zaidi sucks and if Melvin supported this idiotic plan then he sucks too.

I’d say that about sums it up, Flav. Very frustrating to follow this team right now.

Getaway day early start for Harrison. Mason Black should be in line for start Monday, 4th game of series vs. 21-11 Phils. They have won 7 of 10 (12 of last 15) and are off today after road W vs. Angels.

Paul raised interesting ? as did Flav today, as in who’s idea was it to bring Jeffries into bulk role. Interesting that Melvin used word “they” in quote about Black, who did pitch yesterday, going 4 scoreless innings vs. Tacoma.

Melvin said before game (per Baggs) Black was “considered” and “I think right now they like what he’s doing.”

Still, getting 9 hits and 3 BBs over 2 games was awful. Sox outdid that by themselves yesterday with 10 hits 4 BBs in only 8 innings.

Baggs did raise one positive note: despite how bad Giants have been in snell (and snell less) spot in rotation at 0-6, rest of turns equal 14-11.

Jeffries is Melvin’s pet puppet project since his A’s days like Stripass was with Kapler.I will never get it when a washed players is still given more opportunities to fail are some idiot think one day they will put it together lol 😂 ( when the earth is destroyed by meteors are aliens?

Pitchers like White,Jeffries,Hjelle we all cringe when they come in and as Boch would say grab a beer time (Giants should know he’s garbage and was just a circus act cause he’s the tallest player in baseball doesn’t mean your any good)to start with have no business taking up 26 man spots, let alone 40 man.And the joke right now is Mason Black ( dominated AAA 1.09 in PCL is unheard of) is not even on the 40 man roster!Lots of deck chairs need to be moved are tossed overboard going forward with roster moves..

Even Estes said postgame the numbers Black is putting up right now “You want to Strike while the iron’s hot” not wait till he might struggle some!

Stripling got his first W as SP in long time yesterday, shutting out Pirates through 6. A’s swept them, w closer Miller getting 2 more saves.

Bart had 0-3 day (batting .219) Tuesday as A’s got 5 shutout innings from pen after Wood start.

  5. sandog said, on May 2, 2024 at 9:15 am

If they did that to hold off on starting the Free Agency/Arbitration clocks as long as possible on these guys, then I support that. I feel like that is the game you have to play to get the most production out of your top prospects before you lose control of them.

I’m frustrated the team isn’t hitting better, but it is still a roster full of second level players. Zaidi did the best he could to upgrade the talent, but they still have very little star power.

Giants option out Daulton Jeffries( geez 2 appearances 2 many)back to Sac recall RHP reliever Randy Rodriguez ( one of their active 40 man roster moves pitcher that was eligible) he’s pitched well in Sac ERA 1.69 over 10 innings welcome to the show! If only temporary with options to burn..

    • xoot said, on May 2, 2024 at 10:33 am

good info. They’re scrambling. I’ll still be pissed off as long as Hjelle and Slater are here.

    • unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2024 at 10:56 am

      Gravedigger is available.

  7. alleykat69 said, on May 2, 2024 at 10:52 am

Yeah can’t bode well for Slater who has a track record until this year against Lefty’s and the Giants start an all lefty outfield..

Lurch Hjelle &White both need to be jettisoned as well I can’t stand watching either one pitch!

  8. alleykat69 said, on May 2, 2024 at 10:58 am

Oops never mind I thought Winkosky (sp?) was a LHP ….

  9. unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2024 at 11:04 am

Their abject fear of moving draft picks to the 40-man roster while black holes dot the lineup is infuriating.

  10. willedav said, on May 2, 2024 at 11:09 am

Yaha that will fire up family!

  12. unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2024 at 11:24 am

And the lead evaporates. How much we’ll see. And the walks rear their heads.

  13. Macdog said, on May 2, 2024 at 11:28 am

Sure seems like the shutdown inning is a rarity this season.

  14. zumiee said, on May 2, 2024 at 11:29 am

The Snell spot is currently a black hole, but the other four spots in the rotation are legit.

  15. unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2024 at 11:30 am

Our obligatory run followed by a 5-pitch offensive shut down inning.

  16. alleykat69 said, on May 2, 2024 at 11:38 am

    Well that was Leebarrsing..

Hoo Lee Catch! Quick redemption for JHLee

  19. xoot said, on May 2, 2024 at 11:41 am

Lee’s a very proud, hard driving guy. Nice play. Determined doesn’t come close to describing it.

AAA uses a gopher in its commercial…..I’m very much not a fan of gophers.

  21. zumiee said, on May 2, 2024 at 11:52 am

If the Giants hitters recorded an album it would be called Meet the Feebles.

  22. alleykat69 said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:01 pm

Pitch count (95)and 5walks will end Dirty Harry’s day but he’s still impressive and I bet Redsox fans are saying who is this guy?

  23. unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:03 pm

    Man, those pitches are hittable.

  24. unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:07 pm

Watching paint dry has a leg up on this offense.

  25. bassbaldy said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:10 pm

Whaddaya think? Is this HP ump as close to a robo-ump in human form we’ll ever see? He’s pretty consistent with that tight strike zone.

    • James said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:14 pm

He’s missed a few too many that were actual strikes per the box.

      • bassbaldy said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:21 pm

Yes, probably so, yet still seems quite consistent relative to rest of the blue horde I’ve seen so far this season.

  26. alleykat69 said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:24 pm

Wow incredible a RBI hit for Estrada!
Bailey&Chapman set it up nicely with hits, and Bailey’s hustle to 3rd was great to see!

Please I’m begging for more runs!!!

So on cue Slater strikes out WTF he’s toast!

  27. alleykat69 said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:27 pm

Nice job Ahmed picking up a useless Slater and getting that Sac Fly!!!

  28. Yogi Barrister said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:37 pm

It was entirely Melvin’s decision. He’s the alpha dog the Giants bitterati demanded be brought in.

    • unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:40 pm

Yeah, too bad Leo Durocher wasn’t available.

  29. unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:39 pm

(S)Later keeps changing his appearance so people don’t recognize how shitty he is.

  30. unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:43 pm

Huh. Ahmed at least proving some worthwith the sac and the flash.

  31. xoot said, on May 2, 2024 at 12:58 pm

    fuck yeah!

  32. Lurker John said, on May 2, 2024 at 1:00 pm

Nice win. They needed that, badly. Doval, Rogers and Miller were dominant. Now they get a red-hot Phillies team.

  33. Macdog said, on May 2, 2024 at 1:02 pm

    Sweep avoided!

  34. alleykat69 said, on May 2, 2024 at 1:05 pm

A Win on getaway day always great 👍

Giants did a great job putting the ball in play today only 2K’s!!

  35. zumiee said, on May 2, 2024 at 1:09 pm

Giants get some national coverage this weekend; they’re on the Sunday night ESPN game.

    • Macdog said, on May 2, 2024 at 1:38 pm

That totally sucks. If it was a day game, I would’ve gone with my daughter, but she can’t make a night game.

  36. unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2024 at 1:10 pm

Yeah, if you are gonna win one, it might as well be the last one.

Will this offense ever get going? This is getting ridiculous.

    9 years ago today . . .

  39. unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2024 at 1:35 pm

One thing I never thought of.

They play baseball indoors in Korea, right? There aren’t any outdoor stadiums there I don’;’t think.

That’s something Lee needs to get used to.

  40. alleykat69 said, on May 2, 2024 at 2:12 pm

Yeah all games are indoors in Korea so know sun, wind conditions etc to mess with..

Lee playing now in all these stadiums and learning them all is going to be a major adjustment , Sun,Wind,Start times sun/twilight and each ballparks quirks( every park is different)all come into play including Oracle for sure. But he will get even better in the next few years out there, I’m not worried he’s a gamer and a true CF talent..

    • unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2024 at 3:46 pm

He’ll (Lee’ll) be fine. It’s mainly playing the sun that is the issue.

fwiw saw something on twitter from Ben Kaspick on another site.

    league averages slash line 2024:

    .239/.313/.383

    • djloo27 said, on May 2, 2024 at 4:18 pm

Any way to find those numbers for 1968 (the year of the pitcher) that led to lowering the mound?

  42. zumiee said, on May 2, 2024 at 4:32 pm

Yes, Willie, you have the names correct in the photo!

  43. zumiee said, on May 2, 2024 at 4:38 pm

It’s great to see Haliburton doing so well in Indy. The trade helped both teams; the Kings got Sabonis in the trade. Indy has the advantage of playing in the East, the easier conference.

  44. zumiee said, on May 2, 2024 at 4:43 pm

Fun fact: 7 of the last 10 NBA champions have come from the Western Conference. (4 of them the Warriors.)

  45. Dean said, on May 2, 2024 at 5:29 pm

One positive thru 5 weeks is starting pitching except for Snell/Jefferies/Opener spot in rotation. Hicks 2-0/1.59 ERA. Webb 3-2/2.98. Harrison 2-1/3.79. Winn 3-3/3.18 (deserves better record). Back end strong with Doval 2-0 and 6 saves. Middle relief still spotty but some improvement.

But offensive woes devastating. Bailey only starter in lineup today with average above .250 (granted Wade had day off). How much longer before Luciano and Matos join big club?

  46. willedav said, on May 2, 2024 at 6:27 pm

Willie Mac 1968 year of the pitcher before they lowered mound:

    .293/.378/.545 .923 OPS

36 HRs 105 rbis more BBs than Ks 72/71 in 608 PAs

And did even better in 1969 45 bombs .320/.453/.656 1.108 OPS 121 BBs 66 Ks

    • xoot said, on May 2, 2024 at 7:06 pm

Well. I’ll bet the pitchers were terrified in 69.

    • James said, on May 2, 2024 at 7:42 pm

I’ve never looked at his season by season numbers. Those two years alone made him a HOF worthy.

  47. Macdog said, on May 2, 2024 at 7:47 pm

    Tough day for Boston teams.

  48. alleykat69 said, on May 2, 2024 at 7:57 pm

And then they’re is Tigers Denny McLain 1968-69

31-6 Cy Young 1969 24-9 Cy Young 55-15 not a bad 2 year stretch then again he had a nice stretch later in life for racketeering/embezzlement charges..

That 31-6 season was amazing like Bob Gibson’s 1.12 era dominance as they matched up in the W/S.
But it was Tigers Mickey Lolich that stole the show winning 3 games and hitting a HR to a shock to everyone who never hit one in the regular season..
