A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Yaz 2?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 3, 2024

Watching Red Sox fans cheer Yaz’ bomb yesterday made me think, is there any possible way Zaidi could send him there and maybe even get a little value? Probably not as they’d be his only suitor but you can’t tell me their ownership team hasn’t at least thought about it.

Philly tonight. I’m out of town for a few days but will keep the blog chugging along as that is my sworn duty and solemn oath.

The love thatBoston fans had for yaz was truly touching

giants need to stop giving away games by starting Jefferes

    time to get another GM

Lol. Funny, a bunch of Yaz posts showed up under this one. He’s an oft-discussed guy. If this team could ever hit, we’d be in pretty good shape. Maybe the band box of Philly will help.

    Apple game tonight, arrggh.

Yaz is on hot streak lately (how many Giants hitters can you say that about?) and HR was big help yesterday. Why you can’t DFA guys every week like it’s Fantasy ball. Last year alone there were 3 teams that made playoffs w record like what Giants have now.

AZ was like this last August, at 57-59 August 11 after losing game to Padres 10-5.

It’s a Long Season, as J Brosnan wrote long time ago.

I fully expect Mason Black gets the start Monday to fill that black hole role with that 5th starter mess they have, I would like to see Randy Rodriguez pitch before they send him back down before the Mason start.Though I prefer White and Hjelle both terrible to get jettisoned back instead!

I get the long leash the Giants gave Yaz he’s still a good defender but a streaky hitter that at the moment is locked in.But Slater hitting .100 3-30 just seems washed up and in as Melvin said I used him in a high leverage situation yesterday runners on 1st and 3 rd no outs and he struck out.Ramos could add better AB’s with power 7HR’s 19 RBI’s hitting .296 with OPS around .920! Why is he consistently in the Giants doghouse? Is it cause he wasn’t a Z pick?like Bart was both #1 picks now Bart’s gone so I’m wondering if that might happen to Ramos as well..

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on May 3, 2024 at 1:42 pm

I like Ramos. Maybe there’s a back story. I recall him consistently lobbing the ball ba k to the IF last year. Other team noticed and their runner took 2B after a routine single. Strange negligence for a guy with a good arm.

  5. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on May 3, 2024 at 11:23 am

I don’t think anyone is cashing in the season. It’s just frustrating to see Slater out there doing diddly squat while Ramos rakes in AAA.

Jeffries gets 2 shots to stink to high heaven while our young arms are left to toil in Stockton, all for fear of starting their clocks?

Yeah, it’s a long season. But as the Warriors found out, playing yourself to the bottom of the playoff scenario puts you in a bad position. Throwing these early games away is not a good plan.

  6. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on May 3, 2024 at 11:53 am

Yaz had a nice “feel-good” moment yesterday. Cool.

He’s still a 4th or 5th OFer on a good team with a good set of OFers.

Slater is 3 for 30. How long a leash they give him is the question. If he hits one HR, does that give him another week of black hole ABs? It’s not like this guy is Mickey Mantle deserving of a ton of respect. Put him on the IL already with an outbreak of his elbow problem, and get Ramos up for 50+ ABs to see what he can do. He surely can do at least 3 for 30…

  7. James's avatar James said, on May 3, 2024 at 12:14 pm

I don’t think they waited on Black solely because of the clock and 40 man issues. Jeffries pitched well in AAA. Does anyone believe he’s as bad as that 18 ERA? They used him again because they justifiably figured he’d give them a few serviceable stop gap innings. In the Sox game, he pitched a clean second and then got burned by an infield hit and the Devers pop fly that barely scrapped the wall in the third. The Sox worked him like Webb, which was to lay off the change up. If he does well in AAA again, after they eventually DFA him, someone will likely pick him up and he’ll probably do for another team what the Giants hoped for.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on May 3, 2024 at 1:20 pm

I really don’t give a fuck how he does (or doesn’t) somewhere else. He’s sucked here and isn’t worth a plug nickel. Better to bring someone up who is in our goddamn plans to pitch for us anyway.

  8. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on May 3, 2024 at 12:34 pm

I’d give Slater another 2 weeks max to get his S together. If he’s not hitting above .200 at least, and it’s a quarter of the way through the season, it’s time he goes onto the IL, or cut him. Either will send a message to the team that the Giants are serious about production and winning. I’d prefer the IL, and he does “rehab” in the minors to see if he can find his hitting shoes. Meanwhile, if Ramos goes off at the plate with the big club, you have a nice problem if Slater finds his swing in the rehab…

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on May 3, 2024 at 1:24 pm

And that goes ditto for Slater/Ramos. What’s the impetus to keep trotting Slater out there?

2nd and 3rd, no outs and he doesn’t even make contact. Sure, the whole team is hitting under their current weights, but his total suck is just crushing to watch.

Maybe Ramos scuffles as well, but again, at least he’;’s someone who is supposed to be our future. Not Slater. How do we find out if Ramos can cut it?

  9. xoot's avatar xoot said, on May 3, 2024 at 1:38 pm

as long as Slater and Hjelle are here the team is weak.

I remember reading about a Sonny Rollins dark period when he couldn’t get a gig. He used to go out onto one of the NY bridges at night and play for hours. I guess that’s what this image is about:

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on May 3, 2024 at 2:21 pm

Nice. One of his top recordings was entitled “The Bridge” from 1962. Wonderful session w guitarist Jim Hall Bob Cranshaw on bass Ben Riley drums.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on May 3, 2024 at 3:44 pm

he recorded that album after the three years playing on the bridge up to 14-15 hours per day according to a Guardian article I just found. But it wasn’t as simple as not being able to find a gig. He quit for that period after he became famous.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on May 3, 2024 at 4:58 pm

took a couple foul tips off himself.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on May 3, 2024 at 5:07 pm

not clear. He may have strained a hammy or something sprinting down the1B line to back up a play. Trainer and Melvin both came out as he was walking back down the line.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on May 3, 2024 at 5:13 pm

he did take a nasty foul tip off the mask the inning before. The Chron’s new beat writer is terrible .

the dazzling diving catch yesterday, the all out sprinting snocone grab at the track today–JH Lee is astonishing.

  20. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on May 3, 2024 at 5:24 pm

Hicks getting screwed by the umps and his teammates. Should still be 2-0 and we are just fucking around here.

Turner scored from 2nd on a passed ball?

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on May 3, 2024 at 5:26 pm

And we won’t get the call. Hicks has some balls sticking his face in there.

And Hicks continues to get fucked by the ump.

I didn’t see that Xoot ,Hicks was lazy covering home plate, even after Murphy screwed up on a pass ball, they would have have Turner if Hicks got there faster!
Man the Giants had Nola on the ropes in the 2nd a double and 4 walks 46 freaking pitches and only 2 runs just terrible as usual!

    • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on May 3, 2024 at 5:40 pm

Yep, we shoulda taken it to them in the 2nd, Phillies were handing it to us, but Soler & Chapshit sucking balls at the plate (chap fucking us in field too).

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on May 3, 2024 at 5:40 pm

he was surprised when turner came screaming around third and really should’ve been at the plate then anyway. But I’m not sure Murphy who passed the ball in the first place made such a quick play. He was upbraiding Hicks afterward, that’s for sure. Have to look at the play again.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on May 3, 2024 at 5:52 pm

did that. Murphy fucked it up by letting a pitch at the top of the zone glance off his glove. Hicks could’ve covered sooner.

Yeah Chapman sure was awful tonight.2 errors that led to Phillies taking the lead, 2 K’s and a DP hit into.Add in Soler sucking as well , and now the potential loss of C Bailey and going with Murphy&Sabol for awhile really is depressing..

  39. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on May 3, 2024 at 7:29 pm

Nominee for worst loss of the season so far. Terrible play defensively and offensively. If I hadn’t actually been in Phoenix for the first week or so of Spring Training this year, I’d guess this team hadn’t had any ST. This squad looks totally not a together team, mentally checked out and lost offensively. Yes, it’s mostly on the players, but some of this has to be on the coaching staff — at least you shouldn’t be GIVING away games, even if you are less talented than the oppo, which is the case here tonight.

  40. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on May 3, 2024 at 7:32 pm

Again, I question why Z-man took this Murphy cat. Guy has a tin glove. HR the other day, big deal. I’d take Bart over him in a heartbeat. Now it’s Murphy and Sabol as catchers for the next week, at least? Lots of steals goin’ to happen…

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on May 3, 2024 at 8:49 pm

Bart wore out his welcome. Sabol is a minus catcher.

  41. willedav's avatar willedav said, on May 3, 2024 at 8:12 pm

Padres beat Reds in last game to take 2 of 3 from them, crushing blow being grand slam by Cronenworth.

He hit homerun #6 tonight, as did Tatis Jr. and Machado and they lead D Bax 7-0 in 5th.

Bart btw had 0-3 tonight and is now 0-12 going back to Giants series, batting .206. The Pirates lost to the Rockies today after being swept by the A’s. They’re awful and Joey Bart ain’t gonna fix that.

  42. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on May 3, 2024 at 8:46 pm

The NHL playoffs are a lot of fun to watch, fast, hard hitting, plenty of drama, insane skills. My team (Flyers) is not there, but I can watch any of the matchups and thoroughly enjoy myself. Hockey is a great sport. The NBA I can take or leave, it’s not as good as it used to be, imo, but high level basketball is always compelling. The deeper it goes, the better it gets. Enjoying the Nuggets’ run the last couple of years. Their ties to the old ABA make it even better.
