Another Weak Loss
The Giants have scored 148 runs this year. That seems like more than they’ve scored, aye? Anyway it’s good for 23rd in MLB. How in the fucking hell have they scored more runs this year than 7 other teams?

I agree with general sentiment expressed in Flavor nation that Giants are potentially building solid starting rotation with Webb, Hicks, Harrison and Winn. If they get any contribution from Snell, Cobb, Ray or Black (pick any two), starting pitching could be strong latter half of season.
But the everyday lineup barely has a pulse. When will Zaidi finally face accountability for poor roster construction? We’ve seen this movie too many times since 2019 and it doesn’t have happy ending.
I’ll still never forget the firing of Kap with 3 games to go. I was no Kap fan but to fuck him like that at that point was a bullshit pussy move. Z couldn’t even let Kap attend the Willie Mac Award game. Weak on Z’s part and probably the last guy you’d want in a foxhole with you.
I wasn’t Kap fan either. He seemed to lose clubhouse at end of his tenure. But in my opinion Kap’s firing smacked of front office looking to assign blame for late season collapse and shift focus away from management.
Someone on the blog smarter than me probably nailed it last week in saying it’ll take large expanse of empty seats at Oracle in 2nd half of season to draw Charles Johnson’s attention. Even then Farhan and Melvin signed thru 2026 so may not matter.
A public dekapitation. I lost respect for him, too. Get rid of the guy, good, but like that? I have what are probably futile hopes for Buster’s influence.
I think in the attempt to break even with the ballpark while they rake in rent across the cove the investors look mainly to season seats and suites, whether they’re fully occuppied or not.
It WAS a punk move and it wasn’t Zaidi’s call, though he absolutely should have argued against it.
I don’t know who exactly the decider is, probably Larry Baer, but they’re more influenced by the beat writers, podcasters, real estate developers, hosts and callers on KNBR than hired front office personnel.
The Giants would have been better off either letting Kapler and Zaidi play out their contracts or firing them together. You can’t have someone like Melvin making the decisions the GM should be making. That’s the stuff two Dalton Jefferies starts are made of.
Hard to get excited about a team that scores less then 4 runs a game in 25 of 40 outings like the Giants do..7th from the bottom feeders with their 148 runs 3.7 runs average lead by White Sox’s 116 runs 39 games under 3 yikes.Wonder how Daniel thinks about his Cardinals who’s team sucks more then the Giants?
I’m in St. Louis for the weekend and yeah, the Cards might be worse than us. Outscored by the Brewers 18-3 the last two games, lost twice to the Mets at home earlier this week. Goldy is so lost at the plate he got day off Thursday, didn’t matter, he went 0-4 last night.
The position team other than Bailey stinks on ice. Pitching looks promising, but erratic and unknowns out there in Cobb, Ray etc. don’t provide a lot of confidence.
I go back to my bromide that the root problem is ownership. It is not accountable, seems unable to pivot quickly on anything, and puts up with or fosters repetitive mediocrity. The club hit the golden ticket with 3 in 5 with a rare constellation of top starters and Core 4 that carried them in that golden period. That isn’t going to happen again soon, like the next Solar storm 5 creating Northern Lights in South Texas might be in 2045. It won’t happen, but this Johnson family /Mutual Fund ownership/mindset is the worst thing to happen to this franchise for its long-term success…
Greg Johnson is Chairman of Board of Directors.
They had to approve of the offer to Judge, and other FAs that chose to sign elsewhere, including Ohtani all the $$ they spent this offseason which was not insubstantial. Fails of this season more on the guys they did get except for Lee. Can’t see what Johnson family have to do with day to day baseball biz. Best owners imo are the ones that stay out of the way.
Pretty well understood Zaidi is one on hottest seat for this season, right?
Judge, Harper were all FA public relations moves, there was never a chance they were coming. Giants were played, and probably knew it, and played along with it for the PR. Throwing money at the last minute before the season starts onto FAs isn’t what I’m talking about as good ownership. Generating a productive farm system for all players, and judiciously sprinkling in real FAs that aren’t on the decline is smart ownership that results in consistently good team. Demanding results is smart ownership. Lurching from one style of management (analytics is everything) to traditional (BoMel and his usual crew of coaches/buddies) reeks of desperation and no overall plan. That proves the “Giants Way” is a made up phantom…
It certainly worked for the Patriots when Owner Robert Kraft just let Belichick &Brady do their magic and didn’t meddle for all the rings they collected..
Wisely up, Bailey back off IL, Slater to IL, Reetz optioned.
Fortune Seller running in 7th at Churchill Downs. Fortune Teller such great tune, original done by Benny Spellman abd written by Alan Toussaint.
Well, Zaidi is firmly in the pocket of the owners. I posted all this on the wrong thread a couple hours ago so I’ll just copy and paste.
Webb ain’t the problem here. I’d be pissed if I was him as well. These guys can’t hit their way out of a fog bank. They wasted time with Jeffries and are still wasting time with Slater. Lee is the only player on a long-term deal that is even remotely exciting. The rest are middling guys who might be something as complementary role players, but can’t drive the bus.
Farhan has drafted nothing but shit for 6 years running. When he said ‘reset’ last year after jettisoning Kapler, even he admitted he had done little to improve the team.
So here we are in the throes of another bland season of unexciting baseball. Chapman and Soler have proven to be washed up just at the wrong time. Conforto is at least doing something. Fucking Mitch Haniger would be one of our top guys with his 5 HRs and 20 RBI. And of course half the team gets hurt between Colo and SF. Ramos should be playing every day. Slater should be relegated to late inning defensive replacement once he unscrambles his head. Fitzgerald is an amazingly bad defender no matter where they put him. The Wilbur train seems to have run out of steam as well. Oh well. At least we’ll stay ahead of Colo.
Point being, as Greggie said “break even” is the goal. Zaidi is the perfect foil for these greedheads. All sound and fury with the likes of Stanton, Harper, Judge, Ohtani, et al, but ending up with Chapman and Soler. Guys past their prime once they get here.
Brandon Crawford is having one of the worst offensive seasons in history. He’d fit right in with us.
Tauchman has an OBP over .400 for the Cubs. Dejong has 6 bombs already for the Whitesox. Maybe our hitting coaches just blow…..
also Conner Joe from Kokomo just banged out his 4th bomb of the season
Was just about to post that, a 3-run HR.
Well we know “Pat the Shaft” continues to get blown, but he sure sucks as are hitting coach..
the team has become an anchor tenant, along with Visa, in a huge commercial, office space, residential, entertainment development. It’s the development John Fisher before the pandemic stupidly wanted to imitate on the Oakland waterfront. Success of the team won’t be measured in wins or PS appearances.
i just will never understand this mindset. At some point having the amount of money that family has is just overkill. At that point I think i’d value another WS trophy over another billion but what do I know?
I wish they were more like fans, or thoroughbred owners, but they aren’t.
such a big deal was made about this coaching staff and the *grit* and fire guys like Williams and Burrell would instill in the team. I guess grit and fire are overrated.
It’s too bad Joe didn’t work out here. Conner Joe from Kokomo was an all time nickname (I think Unca Chuck came up with it). Still the best nickname of all time is The Grave Duggar
Yeah, I saw Joe hit his 3-run HR today. The Pirates starting pitcher Skenes pitched pretty well in his MLB debut.
Bart was drafted at #2 in 2018, and the Phillies drafted Alec Bohm at #3, ouch. Just that misfire, alone, really hurt the Giants. Although drafting Bart made total sense at the time, as the Giants looked to the future at who would catch after Posey retired.
i never thought it made much sense. Why were they so bent on trying to get someone to replace Posey? He was nearly irreplaceable. All it did was put undue amount of stress on Bart anyway. And clearly they didn’t know what the fuck they were doing with that pick seeing as how he turned out.
That real estate development is pretty nice, whatever. Although it caused the loss of a really big ballpark parking lot. I guess it also brought about the demolishing of some eerie old industrial buildings that looked like the place the mafia would whack somebody if it was in New Jersey.
Mission Bay was mainly a Southern Pacific freight yard beside the passenger terminal, which of course is still extant. When I first hired out as a freight brakeman, once or twice per year I had to go to a small building there to have my watch inspected. Just a working hood.
Just reading today’s posts makes me wonder again howinhell the Giants actually won 3 WS in 5 years. 3 for 3. It was really a miracle. I think we all realized it after #2 and for sure after #3, but looking back, it looks even moreso to be like some never to be repeated warp in time. Could be the same for the Dubs now after their great run, though their ownership is far more win-driven than the Giants. The Giants are now back to what we older fans have known most of our fan lives, usually at least 2 out of these 3 — questionable players, management and ownership…
Loo used to say we sold our soul to the devil for those 3 beauties and in hindsight he might turn out to be right
The Atlanta broadcasters use the word no-no instead of no-hitter. Don’t want to jinx it. So silly.
Trying for the combined no–hitter. Who even cares about those?
Ha! J.D. Martinez hits an HR with two outs in the 9th to spoil the combined no-hitter.
With all the media attention to Clark, for the first time ever, I sort of know when the WNBA season starts. The league may have its first actual national star. Candace Parker, Taurasi, and others were not national stars. That seems to irk Taurasi, as she’s shown in some recent remarks.
Grand Salami!
oh Chapman sucks. lol.
Holy shit!
Over 399 sign
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!
All I can say it’s about time Chapman u delivered!!
Grand Chapman!!4-0
Shit their over their run average in the 1st inning!
3/5 stuff really was flukey, and there were so many different one off contributors. Cody Ross, Renteria and Juan Uribe, Huff, Wilson, Scutaro. Even for pitching. Lincecum was done being any good by 2012 and Cain fell apart right after that. Sabes was always trying to find OFs somewhere and some worked some didn’t, especially young guys he drafted.
nice throw
fox didn’t seem to notice
If I had been listening to the radio broadcast, which I almost always do, that call would have been overturned. Dave Flemming is such a jinx. Yesterday, I immediately called de la Cruz safe on the pick off “attempt”. You’re welcome.
hmmnn. @redreporter says “I am almost certain that’s the first time a San Francisco Giant has ever hit a grand slam off a Cincinnati Reds pitcher. Almost 100 percent certain.”
Ha ha! Maybe he’s blocked out the memory.
Maybe he wasn’t alive then.
Giants fans definitely deserved the 3-in-5. The team finally caught the great breaks they never caught for 50+ often really tough-break seasons. When that ball the Rangers player hit in the World Series hit the top of the fence and bounced back in play, and he didn’t score that inning, it just felt like our time had come.
Elly using whole field again. Burnt Webb last night, twice.
another nice throw.
Wow nice gun by Ramos Fizz nailing the guy at 2nd base and instead of 1st& 3rd one out it’s 2 outs and the Reds don’t score…Well except for the solo shot by Elly

That Mason/Dixon story is a little weird in my opinion.
excellent novel
Pynchon? I haven’t read that one yet.
it’s long
Are these Fox dudes Reds announcers?
wonder if they’ll move Ramos to the bad sun in LF.
Robin Williams referred to people in the South living below the Manson/Nixon line.
Black probably won’t win this game
nice catch
Ramos is on.
why in fucking hell has this dude been hidden in Sacramento
Cause he wasn’t a Z draft pick so he’s automatically hated..
Yep.
He was drafted about 3 years ago.
2017 Zum,
seven
dumb fucks in the booth don’t recognize a pelican? Idiots.
“That’s not a bird, that’s a…..big bird.” Not Karros’ finest moment.
Melvin didn’t want to make the mistake he made last time.
Webb, Doval, Ramos, Luciano, Matos and Bart were all part of that shitty Farm system that Farhan inherited.
another nice play but I hate that habit he has of lobbing the ball to the IF when he thinks it doesn’t matter. That burned him once last year.
Wow. Ramos and Yaz are putting on a clinic out there.
Nice play off the wall by Yaz. Reds are running into outs today.
I like the idea of Ramos Lee Yaz in the OF.
They have no choice now Xoot Conforto isn’t playing anytime soon ..
According to Baseball Reference:
Mason Black
Draft: Drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 3rd round of the 2021 MLB June Amateur Draft from Lehigh University (Bethlehem, PA). School: Lehigh University
Go back and read the thread with your draft comment, it was about Ramos not Black.
Oh sorry, I assumed BF was talking about Black. I shouldn’t have assumed!
these idiots announcers have spent 2 full innings discussing the shadows
they even discussed the current level of daylight in Cincinnati
Glad I got mute on. Doesn’t sound like I missed anything.
Pelican,Summers&Shadows that’s all these idiots talk about..
I can’t believe they are getting paid for this. Not to mention a plane ticket, hotel room and a per diem.
they keep using their cheap ass fox equipment as an excuse for their fuck ups. We don’t have monitors, we see the replays later than you do at home, etc. and they’re idiots.
Way to make em pay, Bailey.
Fucking pitcher the last guy they need to lose is Wade! Fortunately it hit him in the shoulder then blasting his head!
Nice job by Bailey getting a sac fly rbi..
There was a UFL game on before the Giants game. Who the heck is watching the UFL?

The umpire is pissed that got overturned lol 😂
so one announcer is blockhead Karros, the other is an ex lawyer who probably washed out or didn’t practice much before becoming a comic. I wondered why he made a joke about Rule 12b6 earlier. Motion to dismiss in fed ct.
Buck Farmer sounds like a pitcher from the 1898 Red Stockings.
Are a certain candidate in Farmer finds a Wife..
Yeah, Abner Doubleday is a great name. He SOUNDS like he should be the inventor of baseball, even though he isn’t. We picture him in an old fashioned uniform, with a big handlebar mustache on his face.
he misused the word anodyne. wtaf.
Victory!
that was a fun game.
Missed most of it, going through the thread sounds like Giants threw out a couple Reds on the bases?
Yeah Ramos&Yaz gunned out base runners at 2nd Mac that killed 2 potential big innings!
Ramos was exceptional today in the field making catches..
Great to hear, gotta check the highlights.
A nice and needed win.
Though they probably won’t make the playoffs, won’t score many runs, I’m feeling pretty good about the entertainment value of this team going forward. That has more to do with the quality of the completion, but they can pitch and play defense. It looks like a few of the River Cats will stick: Ramos, Hjellie, Fitzgerald.. Would love to see Schmitt go on a tear and make Ahmed expendable.
Conforto is going on the IL. That’s not good.
My two sons names are Bosnia and Herzegovina.
And I have two daughters named Alsace and Lorraine.
not unusual. Didion and Dunne named their daughter Quintana Roo.
4.2 shutout innings from pen today behind Black. Took 5 of them but job well done. Hopefully Harrison doesn’t need as much help tomorrow.
Even Miller was unscathed, unlike yesterday.
The A’s have quietly improved from last season.
J.D. Davis has 2 HRs and 2 Rbi’s. Strange stats.
The fictional character Jiminy Glick named his two sons Matthew and Modine.
I don’t mind the A’s’ woman play by play person. She and Dallas have a pretty good chemistry together.
Krukow’s replacement someday is not clear-cut. Dallas is better than anyone the Giants have used: Pence, Lopez, Estes, etc. And Dallas isn’t really that great, either.
Maybe the Giants will try to dislodge Brenley from the D-Backs’ broadcasting team.
