Grab Some Popcorn
What a treat we have in store for us in Pittsburgh. We get to see both Jared Jones AND Paul Skenes pitch. Also, the return of Snell. All in all a pretty exciting mid week series.

Young Pirates aren’t hitting much. Dead last NL for runs scored and have most Ks. 14th for doubles and triples, no higher than 13th for BA and all 3 slash lines.
Connor Joe does look like best hitter. SS O’Neill Cruz has 62 Ks already. Bart is still back up as they have Yasmani Grandal back from injury. Hopefully Giants SPs can shut them down to get road trip off to good start.
reynolds is geir best hitter
sure, but off to slow start. .254/.341/.407. Slugging the big dropoff 5 HRs 1 triple so far. Pirates have 3 triples entire season this year, with team of mostly young guys in mid 20s.
This is an important road trip. Even in losing as long as we don’t make stupid mental errors and play solid D we should be ok. In my mind it’s kinda like a new season as of now.
Yes! If they return home next week at .500 that’ll really ring true.
As Flav said in previous thread about older injured guys returning…I think Conforto eligible to come off IL soon if hamstring is OK. He was 8-16 w 2 HRs and 3 BBs in 5 previous games and has OPS of .821. 7 HRs is tied for team lead with Thairo and slugging pct. is .490.
I wish the team would simply be clear with their direction and get rid of Ahmed and Slater.
Bad as he is, I’d rather see Fitzstrangeglove at SS than Ahmed. At least Fitz hits.
Sounds like a DH late inning PH fourth OF to me.
Yeah Giants are a player short on the 26 man roster which I figure will be filled with Conforto but it better not mean moving out any of the kids in this OF!!
I’m confused about McKenna as well if he’s get the call over Conforto for now who might not be 100% yet?
Not sure what the Giants are doing with McKenna as he’s currently on the 40 man but not on the active Yes list and he’s not with Rivercats getting reps?
Conforto can hit, until he’s hurt, which is often. He can’t field worth a damn.
Slater has to be DFA’d, or parked in a fake 60 day IL stint.
They cannot send either of MatRam back down without a massive fan outrage.
They need to simply let him go. They obviously don’t care. Ramos has options. I’m sure they’ll spin him down when (S)Later comes back.
From the story on MLBTR about McKenna one of the commenters (Orioles fan I imagine) said he is out of options so he has to stay up w Giants. Conforto comes back that’s 5 OFs w Fitz back to Sac where he belongs. Absolutely nothing wrong w hanging onto him if he can continue to hit especially vs. RHP, bc Matos is not going to hit .350 rest of the year and inevitable slide will happen to his buddies too.
Bailey if he’s OK can replace Sabol once and for all as backup C.
Wonder if Black gets start Thursday.
And the mystery of McKenna is done he’s starting tonight in RF instead of Yaz.
Against a lefty pitcher so I’m fine with this.He takes the 26th man spot for now.
They still will need to make a move for Snell tomorrow.Good bye Wisely I’ll guess..
Thinking about more as much a Wisely is useless if they activate Snell tomorrow there’s no way they need 14 pitchers so Avila are Black are options..
May 17 was birthday #92 for Ozzie Virgil Sr., whose family came here from DR when he was 13 and lived in Bronx. Signed by NY Giants after service time 1953, played 2 years for them and eventually ended playing career in SF. Originally an IF, taught himself how to C.
Second oldest living ex Giant I think, next to Al Worthington who is 95 and won ring with 1954 NY Giants and pitched for SF 1958 and 59. Bounced around another 10 years, appearing in over 600 games.
doesn’t look like many Pittsburghers are interested in watching the Giants.
Clank!
I wonder if BassBaldy made it to Marshall Allen’s 100th Bday party gig.
I had a chance to scoop Baggarly by offering my inside pick view of Luciano’s game Sunday, but was too lazy. I love the good PAs, and really hope he can be adequate in the field. He’s the one I really don’t want sent down. Looking forward to seeing Matos with his 1 K go up against Skenes in game 3. He might be our only hope of making any contact
Soler is a major power outage.
35 Ks in 133 ABs.
He nearly hit one out and then was robbed of a double in his first two ABs Sunday. He’s looked completely lost flailing at pitches at the bottom of or below the zone every time up since.
Wow. I though our crowds were sparse.
if mcKenna is 5’11 I’m 6’11.
Shit, they picked up Austin Slater 0.5. Another guy they need to jettison.
If Lucky gets three lineouts in one inning, color me amazed.
Thairo HR!
I love those LF Thairo bombs.
nothing lucky about that. Nice play, Luciano.
yeah nice grab. Throw little off but Flores got it. I think Flores did make poor decision on squib by Cutch.
fallin down poor
does Casali have the slowest bat speed in the statcast era?
It looks like his sprint speed isn’t elite, either.
but 2021 wouldn’t’ve happened without him. Similar role now.
with help from Webb ‘s D to get the GiDP he finishes 6.
Nice to see from Chapman.
Chapman has shown power all year. Anyone that thought he was done was clueless.
Out of curiosity, just looked at bat speed. Noticed that Chapman is fifth highest in mlb. Runs like a motherfucker, too.
Agreed. 4 doubles last week vs. Rox, double and HR already tonight.
Add the power to stellar defense, valuable player.
He hit 2 bombs in one game early, then another off of a position player. Being frustrated with someone who inexplicably misses one fat pitch after another isn’t tantamount to writing him off. See Brandon Belt.
judging him off missing *fat pitches* is stupid. These guys sometimes guess wrong.
Please don’t call me stupid, cuz I’m not.
and Jesus fucking Christ, using 2 bombs in 1 game, one of them being an oppo taco that only a strongman can hit, as some sort of negative on his year is fucking weird and lame
also, highest WAR on the team. Although admittedly WAR is a completely flawed stat but lots of statty guys like it
Chap bomb!
At least they got 1 there.
Actually, no, just call the strike zone accurately.
4 run lead in 8th. Goal here is tell Camilo no te necesito. Rest up.
Fail.
uh oh. First Camilo, now Marco.
and add the ump
Yep, grab some popcorn.
Man, that went south in a hurry.
Cruz’s LDs are like gunshots.
Hit so damn hard it kept the winning run at 3rd.
yeah. a Casali style bloop might’ve won the game for them.
¡qué lástima!
For Fucks sake..
Brutal loss to start the road trip. Gotta forget this one quick.
I understand and get the righty pitcher and lefty hitter deal, but me? I still wanted to see Luciano hit (particularly since he has been hot, as well as him being 2 for 4 this evening). Would also have shown the manager’s confidence in his rookie shortstop, especially after Luciano’s error in the 9th.
Gonna be hard to top that one for Worst Loss of the Season.
yep
I got the blues.
Well, that feels like a waste of three hours of my time.
man, imagine how Luciano feels.
yeah, gotta hurt. They got Reynolds out but ball wasn’t hit hard enough for him to turn 2.
and instead of a DP an error off McCutchen’s grounder. .
At least the unwatchable Tyler Rogers scraped by.
There was some of that robotic managing in the modern MLB. Don’t bring the closer in with a four run lead, because it’s not a save situation.
Managing based on a player stat.
On the positive side, I’ve been listening to the audiobook of Springsteen’s memoir. Someone doesn’t need to be a Springsteen fan to enjoy this book. It’s an engrossing and wildly entertaining story, and read great by Bruce. He’s a terrific audiobook reader.
Caught the game late as it was 6-2 Giants and it should of been in the bag.I’m pissed they started Puss Arm Jackson over Randy Rodriguez to start the 9th it just shows you Melvin won’t trust him in that situation.Jackson is washed imo and I’m thinking Rodriguez would of got the job done, before the wheels fell off..
Fitzgerald hit a grand slam for Sac tonight (4-4, 2HRs, 5 RBIs). But McKenna ….
the McKenna thing is hilarious. Farhan can’t help himself. And listening to that idiot Flemming and his side kick try to sell it was the funniest thing I’ve heard in a while. “Hey, he’s 3 for 8 with 2 home runs this year!” Idiots. Go look at his career. I seriously hate the Giant shills
Zaidi might hate his own draft picks as much as Sabes’ – what a totally fucked up dude he is. Except for some of the pitchers. And he did sign Chapman, so who knows what to think? He’s probably going to have Connor Joe nightmares tonight. How did we go from Spec Richardson to this travesty?
James, the concert celebrating Marshall Allen 100th was to have been Sunday the 19th in Virginia. Dunno if Mr. BB made it.
The only thing worse than being forced to sing happy birthday is sitting there like an idiot while people pretend to be enthused about singing it to you.
And I wouldn’t go near a piece of cake that’s just been spit all over by some dopey relative trying to blow out candles…
Joc hits a 3-run HR vs. the Dodgers. Joc has gotten rid of the goofball haircut he used to have.
In his memoir Springsteen tells the story of being unknown and completely out of money in the early 1970s, and having to go to NY City where someone is going to give him $35. He has just enough gas in his car to get there and back from his shack in New Jersey. But he has to pay a $1.00 toll fee on his way there. He has taken $1.00 in pennies with him. But the toll-taker can reject the pennies and make him turn around. He begs her, and she agrees to take the pennies, but she’s going to count them. It turns out one of the pennies is Canadian and she’s going to reject his pennies. So while drivers are honking and yelling at him, he searches the car seat cushions and finds a penny. He is allowed through.
back in the days when tolls were low and bridges had one or two express lanes with metal baskets to catch your exact change coins as you cruised through, I saw a big Rolls Royce Silver Shadow stopped dead by a basket The four people inside the car were all searching the interior and their pockets for quarters. They must have followed that lane by mistake. The guy in the nearby booth who took my dollar and returned my change also seemed to be enjoying the moment.
If Sonny Corleone had exact change, he would’ve lived to hear Bobby Thomson’s homer on his car radio…
lol! Color me surprised by this one
