Well, so far this year’s Giants crop looks like an improvement over last year’s lackluster squad and somnambulent manager and coaching staff. We shall see.

They say all good things eventually end. As I feared, I am just sorry to hear the Flap has finally been gathered onto that casualty list.

But, c’est la vie — the Flap had a great, great run. Lots of characters have passed through the gates of this blog, all special in their own right. Often full of crap, always full of life. Not to mention opinionated, infuriating, collegial, pissy, friendly — running the entire gamut. Bottom line — ALL Giants fans to the core (except the occasional S disturber and Doghair fan).

Here’s a shout out to all of us who made the Flap what it is and was — a great community of people who I think became friends that shared not just a hobby, not just an interest, but often and more importantly the ups and downs of their real lives. WITHOUT QUESTION, that is the part of this place that I will miss the most.

Finally, massive thanks to BF for steering the ship and putting up with all of us Fools traveling on it. A greater captain we could not have had.

So, Via con Dios to you fellow Flappers — I hope to see you all on down the road…

      P.S.

I just dug down into my shirts drawer and pulled out the Flap’s unique, incomparable “We Score, We Win” T-Shirt that we wore at that Flapalooza years ago at the ballpark — I’m not even sure what name the park had then. A great memory. I’m wearing this shirt (“snarkk 44” on the back) the rest of today in tribute to the Flap. Feels good.

Snarkk just told me to sign in without telling me why . . . arggghhh! No, it’s not going to be that easy Flav . . . First, Happy (recent) Birthday! Second (before you sign off forever), can you let everyone know that things are alright with you and your daughter, e.g., health-wise, etc.?

Echo, what Tom said above – going to miss the Flap, as I avoid Facebook like the plague for the most part; Reddit sucks; and, I left X or Twitter or whatever the fuck they are calling it, after the Orange turd was elected again.

Ironically, this winter I have finally given Unca’s blog more than a cursory look and I am finding it to be a fantastic place for Niner football information; and occasionally, baseball too. I hope Unca starts including baseball posts too???

I digress though. Thank you and everyone else for being here. Met some wonderful people here. Again, check in one last time Flav, to let folks know that you and your daughter are doing fine, i.e., that’s not the reason for closing this blog. Thanks buddy!

Still living in Redwood Shores with Katie but we are closer to moving to Bend. I am guessing by next winter we will be there.

My dad is on hospice right now. Tough to tell how long he has but he’s tough as hell so I’m guessing longer than shorter timeline.

Will definitely hit some games this year, maybe we can put a Flap game together and Snarkk I still have the shirt.

Most of all, big thanks to Craig for giving us idiots a place to meet and talk baseball and so many many many other things. Thanks, Craig. I hope all will be well with your Father, and of course you and Katie. Hope to somehow be able to stay in touch with Flappers everywhere now and then….. peace out.

Yes Craig what’s you’ve done is nothing short of incredible with the Flap ! I go back to the Splash but it’s oneflapdown from the start in 2010 I posted on your very 1st one and loved it for all the years with a list of knowledgeable guys/gals which made it so special! And remember 3 out of 5 W/S championships started in your 1st year of the Flap so definitely special mojo from the start!!

Leaving the light on like Motel 6 that maybe under a new regime of changes,Manager,Coaches/Players and under Posey who excites me with “I want to get back to Giants Baseball ways” that a possibility of the Flap lives on, but if not thanks for all the great memories and to all my Flappers it’s been an honor!!!

If anyone wants to stay in touch my blog will still be going (ninersforever.com).

Steve, thanks for coming over to the dark (red & gold) side!! I’ll throw some Giants stuff up. It is the offseason for football

Would love to do another Flapapalooza. Like the Bader signing. And Arraez. As usual though, pitching and defense are the ??s. And baserunning of course. We still gonna be the slowest team in the game?

I don’t think we did enough with the pen or the rotation. Walker is our closer?

Sorry to hear, Flavor, about your father. Based on the occasional comments you’ve offered here, I suspect he lived large and well. Best to him now.

I cared for my parents in their nineties, and I didn’t realize how significant my care might have been for them. I thought about that this past year, when, for the entire year, my sons helped me through a serious medical crisis. Evolution makes it absurdly easy to become a father, but being a capable parent is another thing. You think about how well you’ve done when you face the end. Reassurance is welcome.

It’s a little weird, as here we are, under 2 weeks until opening day, and there’s only about a week to go until the Flap is gone. Usually by now, Flappers have dissected the team’s current and potential strengths and weaknesses, predicted a wins total for the season, and opined on possible lineups and pitching rotations. Hardly any such discussions now, I guess because we won’t be here to see all it all turns out. I’ll just say that I think the offense will hit better, the defense will defend better, and there should be a few more wins that last year. Starting rotation appears a weakness IMO, but who knows, they might surprise. Anyway. Peace and love, you big lugs….

Wish we did more. Walker as closer is a pretty big risk for me. The rest of the pen? We’ll see. but there is a lot of hope these guys all rebound.

Starters the same. Birdland doesn’t seem to be progressing much. Houser and Mahle? Meh and Meh-er. Webb and Ray and Roupp-dee doo.

Hitting is definitely better. Defense should be better with Bade rin CF. Arraez? Another wait and see.

At least we won’t be as boring as last year. Will we be as slow? Does Vitelli like to ruyn? I’d think so, but weeeeeeeelllllllllll seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

  29. xoot's avatar xoot said, on March 20, 2026 at 9:51 am

I recall one old codger thread that concerned medicare options. At the time, I wondered about the guys who thought that Medicare Advantage plans would be ok because they were no cost and “all inclusive.” I guess each plan is different, depending on zip codes or something. But beware. This past year, I participated in a couple of large support groups. One woman there had Med Adv and she couldn’t get doctors at Stanford or UC to take her case. Meanwhile, with regular medicare and a supplement plan, I had no out of pocket cost for nearly half a million dollars worth (at the absurd retail rate) of treatment and surgery. The woman changed insurance and is now finally getting care. A year-long delay can be a big deal.

Eldridge’s swing is quick, smooth, and flat. Amazing for a guy his size. His troubles with the breaking ball remind me a bit of Matt Williams as a rookie. Buster may want to avoid the super two problem before calling him up again. I don’t know. But he’ll be here.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on March 20, 2026 at 1:07 pm

I started out with an Advantage plan and have switched to a Medigap/Supplement Plan G. Advantage was the same old BS of the insurance company trying to weasel out of paying whenever possible. They even eliminated a special coverage related to good health maintenance in the middle of the policy year with no notice, something I think was blatantly illegal even if they had given notice. It was like saying “oops, this is costing us too much so we’re quitting this halfway through the policy year even though we promised by contract that it was available when you were shopping for plans”. Medigap G essentially pays everything and you don’t have doctor network BS to deal with — you pick whichever doctor you want. Of course, it costs more than Advantage. I think Advantage is called that because the only advantage is to the insurer, and it makes a ton of money for them.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on March 20, 2026 at 4:45 pm

yeah, my supplemental plan is gap F, which may not be available any more. Plan G is the best equivalent, I’ve heard. Worth every penny.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on March 20, 2026 at 4:51 pm

I’ve conferred with some great independent health insurance brokers over the years. They’re out there, they’re free, and the good ones don’t shill. The good ones get paid the same no matter what you buy.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on March 22, 2026 at 10:45 am

        Yeah, F is n/a anymore.

G is now the gold standard. I’ve had some substantial medical care the last 18 months or so and have paid virtually nothing under my G plan.

N is pretty close, and about $50 to $70 a month less than G, depending on which insurer you choose. N has office visit co-pays and ER co-pay, which may not matter much depending on your health. One other thing is that G pays any excess charges, N does not, so if your medico or other provider won’t accept the medicare price for the services, N won’t pay the balance between its 20% of the medicare price and the provider’s higher price. G will pay that. I’ve had two medicare consultants say that excess scenario doesn’t happen often, but if it did, that excess could be hefty under certain circumstances. Choose a medico who agrees to all medicare prices and that issue disappears. My G premium went up 24% this renewal year. 24% ! I am fortunate to be able to afford it.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on March 22, 2026 at 11:56 am

my capacity for compassion has increased dramatically during my medical odyssey. What do poor people do, faced with this? Is a question that recurs to me constantly.

      THE FLAARP?

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on March 22, 2026 at 10:52 am

Chuck, make sure you get hold of a good medicare agent/advisor. They get paid by the Advantage or Medigap insurance provider, so no cost to you. Beware that if you start out with an Advantage plan on top of your medicare, you can get locked into Advantage after that first year, and may have no ability to later change to a supplemental/Medigap plan. I’ve had two consultants tell me that. So, make sure you don’t box yourself in with Advantage if you try that alternative for your first medicare year. May depend on state you’re in, but I don’t think so. For medicare, information is your friend.

Late to the dance to thank Craig for giving loyal Giants fans nationwide a platform to vent, applaud, critique, question and dissect the Orange and Black. As someone who gratefully stumbled onto this SF Giants blog perhaps five years ago, I am very grateful and appreciative of Craig’s endurance in hosting this site.

I haven’t had the good fortune of meeting anyone in person but after five years – the first two only reading others comments and the last three posting comments myself – I know I will miss the daily exchange of ruminations on everything SF Giants. So a second thanks for all those who allowed a newcomer to crash the party a decade after SF Giants blog was born and for making me a more knowledgeable and informed Giant fan.

if anyone has any suggestion on a different SF Giants daily blog to join please share. I know it won’t match this platform where unvarnished truth and candor ruled the day but I’d like to continue being part of a daily SF Giants blog to handle the ups and downs of a 162 game season.

    Best to everyone.
