A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Bombs Away!!!!!!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 9, 2025

Listened to most of that one on the radio. Did not expect a comeback win with Webby so shaky early on. 8 more wins needed for me but let’s get greedy and over 81. How many can this team win especially with the woeful Rockies to close out the season at home?

This tweet made me lol and I’m all about it…

A Win But….

There isn’t much more you can say about Moody. He has to go. I didn’t listen to Kyle’s presser did he defend him again? If so, pathetic. Kyle always thinks he’s the smartest person in the room. My experience with people who say “stuff” all the time as he does is that those people are not the smartest people in the room.

Not to get too dramatic but if you watch Purdy scramble on that TD throw to Tonges the scrambling reminded me of Montana scrambling just before he threw The Catch. I know his throw wasn’t the same but he bought time and drifted beautifully just like Joe did.

Gonna Let Stix Take This One

to me

Well, it was fun while it blasted.  Never in my Giants fixation since 1954 have I witnessed such a schizo performance from the team.  Yesterday’s fiasco finale with the Saint Louis bluuz was the

 teller.

So we caught a premo performance from the Old Master on the mound who held them off for inning after inning…finally hanging up the glove and spikes deep into the game.  What WAS the almost bulletproof bullpen early in the season, featuring seasoned holds and stoppings during the early weeks, eroded via trades and injuries into something of a shaky shambles…culminating into a display of incompetence in that 9th inning fiasco.

The vibe went south again.  We got a couple of patchwork runs early in the contest, but no master-blasters from the homer happy honchos.  Two zip for inning after inning got me a bit nervous.  Sure nuff.  Was leery about Walker as a closer after catching his games right on through the season.  Decent enough in a set-up role.  It seemed, though, that the lack of oomph on the part of the guys with the sticks must have touched a nerve or two.

French call it “sang froid”.  Translated into Amerenglish it would be icewater in the veins.  Even the eight out of ten exercises by Doval maintained the vibe.  But not so on Saturday in the burg with the arch.  Currently that dude is heaving the pill for Noo Yawk.

That’s entertainment. The Golden Gate still stretches across the void.

Off season there’s gonna be a plethora of position players…particularly talented outfielders all jockeying for a spot on the roster.  Then there’s the masher first-sacker doing his stuff in Sacktown and around the PCL.

Going into this season Los Gigantes was full up with pitchers galore, both in The Show and through the pipeline.  Now though, the mounders are a bit short-suited.

Trade winds will hoot and holler.  Maybe a bit of action in the free-market scene.  Likely we are gonna miss Whillmerrr.  He’s been kinduva good-luck charm.  One day back in the daze he led MLB in Rib-Eyes.  He sure has a knack for knocking them in.  But it’s a business proposition and likely no room in the inn for a fist full of D.H.es.

Will the Old Master stick around?  If not, will the prime targets be a #3 starter along with a couple of competent bullies to replace the injured and the traded?

Giants got three guys with sparkplug tendencies. Woo Lee has settled in as a barrel banger who quit trying to not only to hit it hard but also over.  We need those doubles and triples. Hellcat Ramos draws walks like bright night lights suck in the bugs.  That new guy we got from Noo Yawk, Gilbert, is a balls to the walls kinda hitter.  Lots of steam in that engine.

Plenty of longball pizazzaz…Maybe a slight overload…particularly for a joint like Oracle. I don’t like that name, but business is business.

Pair of Aces, but R.R. seems to be getting a bit short of steam.  But if the locomotive is barely rounding the bend, our Horse of course is pacing the pack for innings pitched and is well up there on special K’s .  Roupp currently outta action and Birdsong struggling to get the sweet back in his tweet.

Is the fix in for twenty-six?  Gonna be interesting to follow the moves during hot-stove months.

Could there develop a come to Jesus situation for Bailey’s alter-ego?  That particular recent East Coast import is not a Big Bopper, but Christ on a Crippled-Creek Crutch, he has this tendency to have a skyrocketing OBP…and as a catcher, he steals bases at a pretty good pace. Check out his stats with the River Cats.

For next season, the team needs to establish balance…in all departments…particularly speed on the base-paths.  Not looking to go that way, though.  Big Boppers snag all the headlines. So maybe, the baseball media will pay more attention next go-round.

We Are Only 6 Back of LA

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 6, 2025

That is freaking hilarious. Who could have predicted this after an entire summer of smoking pole?

Try to take Two of Three

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 5, 2025

Ok here we go, if this run stalls it will be because our pitching staff is in shambles. Seymour today, then Verlander, then I don’t know. Teng?

Fuck Colorado

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 4, 2025

Talk about the best revenge. Matt Chapman, come on down! This Gilbert thing is truly surprising me. After starting like he didn’t belong up here he’s been our best hitters not named Devers or Adames. What if this was real? What if this is all real? Shit, I only need to get to 81 but what if they…..keep…..winning?

Overcoming Bitchiness

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 3, 2025

There are bitches. And then those bitches each have a bitch. And that bitch’s name is Kyle Freeland. Goddamn what a pussy. Devers doesn’t look at him, doesn’t ever stop after he hits the ball. He fucking looked at it. HE LOOKED AT IT! lol.

I am going to be irritated if Chapman and Adames get days. I like that they had Devers’ back but Freeland was walking away with the ump at that point. Running out there and shoving him was not smart.

And Then There Were 12

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 2, 2025

The most perfect of all the .500’s….69-69….now just 12 glorious wins to go to drag Big Flavor across the finish line….

Really surprised to see Teng have success like that. His sweeper was MOVING and you just rarely see that at that altitude. On the radio they said he had something like 89 k’s in 50 something innings in the minors. He doesn’t throw very hard so that is an impressive K/inning ratio.

Webb today!

Really happy for Adames who did his usual underwhelming shit to start the season only to turn out exactly as we expected. 30 home run guys don’t grow on trees and we should know having not seen one since Bonds. He’ll get there this year.

Drubbed!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 1, 2025

Baseball is a hard game to predict. On Friday we drub them. On Saturday we get drubbed. On Sunday we go back to doing the drubbing.

As bad as Colorado is I always hate going there from Oracle with them waiting in Colorado (in other words, with them just finishing a series there). It gives them a climate advantage for the first game. Still, they are terrible and smoking them like an old lady smoked a cigarillo in the 70’s should be the most likely outcome. If I’m gonna hit 81 games this year I need them to win at least 2 of these, preferably a sweep……

The March to .500 Hits a Snag

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 31, 2025

Well, nothing crushing hope like an 11-1 drubbing. I love how Homer Kruk is like “yeah the start time is really going to affect these bats” but it seems to have only affected one team’s bats.

I turned on the radio in the 2nd or 3rd and Kruk goes “98 MPH slider PAINT at the knees. That’s an unhittable pitch.” And I’m thinking “hey, ok, let’s go, Seymour must finally be DEALING” only to find out he’d just given up 4 runs.

One More Win And We Have Hope

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 30, 2025

I’m not gonna lie, I looked at the wild card standings this morning. Why not? Don’t cost nuthin’. The elusive dream of .500 is but one win away….And we have our great opener Carson Seymour leading the way today. I’ve never felt more confident in my entire life…..

15 Wins To Go

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 29, 2025

With James stepping up and helping the team take another step towards 81 wins this year I am truly getting excited about this upcoming series. This is going to be razor thin all the way to the wire. I know all the Flappers stand in unison with me.

Baltimore has been a horrific disappointment this season I can’t imagine they’re too invested in winning anything right now. And with our group of vets freshly relieved from any pressure to win I am expecting a solid effort from the team this weekend.

12-3 Drubbing

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 28, 2025

Drubbing is a great word. Here we are, after taking all the pressure away and looking into the mirror of truth of who they really are this season…..they begin to win games. And while the win streak is modest, it’s against 2 of the best teams in the league.

And it begs the question…..where were these guys all Summer?

Cubbies

They are significantly better than we are. Factor in us having to play them in our own home park and we are really up against it in this series.

Exciting Times

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 25, 2025

Man, we haven’t had a game like that in what seems like forever. Miller was awesome on the radio in that 9th inning. He genuinely got me excited about the team again even if it was just a fleeting moment.

Sadly, we now return home where all we do is lose.

Day off to prepare for that letdown.

Turning It Around?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 24, 2025

Now that we are hopelessly out of it I could see the Giants starting to play well again. Win just enough to save BoMid’s job. I hope I’m wrong but the season just has that feel to it.

Great Game For 1 Player

Adames hits two bombs and we still lose. There’s no bottom to this season.

Brew Town

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 22, 2025

Turns out we played yesterday. I thought it was an off day for some reason. Man, straight from SD to Milwaukee. No rest for the wicked (losers).

Brewers are only -180 to beat us tonight. LOL. Should be -500.

We added Devers, Adames and got a full year out of the Hooligan. And we got worse than last year. How?

Immaculate Ineption

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 21, 2025

That’s 3 games in a row where they have scored in exactly one inning each game. ONE inning.

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 20, 2025

Giants have started a pattern where they score in the first inning never to be heard from again. Someone tell the bats there are 8 more after that one.

One Small Step to 81

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 19, 2025

Giants score 4 in the first and then gear it down and cruise to a 4-3 win. I just want them to get to 81 wins. Who’s got odds on that?

BoMel Must Go

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 15, 2025

I honestly don’t get how anyone could support BoMel at this point. If you do, I’m putting you on the spot: tell me why? And don’t give me any bullshit about “he can’t hit the ball or pitch the ball or throw the ball.” What has he done THIS YEAR that you think has been a reason (or reasons) to keep him? Obviously Buster extended his good buddy but hiring your friends and keeping them around even when they fail at their job is probably more of a hole in your own game than something to highlight.

Disarray. Chaos. Rock Bottom.

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 14, 2025

I picked this game up on the radio when they were down 7-0. Driving around, ticking off errands….now it’s 10-0. I keep listening. And I’m like, “why am I listening to this? I bet the bone is playing something rad on 107.7”. So I click over there and Thuderstuck was rockin’ the airwaves and all of a sudden I was happy again.

I can’t imagine paying money to see this joke of a team.

Stupid, Boring, Lame

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 13, 2025

What 3 words would you guys use to describe this shitty, unwatchable team?

Firing Time

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 12, 2025

Afternoon KNBR guys were discussing this: If you don’t want to talk about what Melvin has done to lose his job how bout we discuss what he has done to keep it? Buster gives this ghost an extension, for no fucking reason whatsoever, and the team goes into a tailspin. Literally. They’ve been the worst team in baseball since he did this. What has Melvin done to deserve AN KEEP this esteemed job?

I’ve said this many times before, Buster’s biggest hole in his game is his loyalty to his friends. You can’t do that when you’re the man in charge. Tough decisions have to get made all the time. And you can’t have them colored by friendship.

BoMel has to go…….

that one caught me off guard a bit. I even looked it up. Sure enough, it’s true.

What a refreshing game to watch. We win at home against a terrible team. I’m sorry I ever took it for granted.

Washington, Padres, Tampa

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 8, 2025

Honestly, this homestand scares me. Forget for a min we lost 6 straight in the last one. Washington has one of the worst pitching staffs in the league. Why do they scare me? We should smash those arms all over the yard. But still……Padres are obviously going to be tough. And Tampa is just one of those teams that always plays hard as fuck no matter what their record is.

Coming Home

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 7, 2025

Well, they held on. Butto–Walker—R-Rod. If those 3 can cobble together something useful in the last 3 innings we just might have a chance of finishing over .500 this year. And that would be an accomplishment.

Despite the fact that we should have won 5 of the last 6 it should still feel pretty good winning the first 2 series’ on the road…..

Now a 9 game homestand which will tell us how exciting September might or might not be.

Finally, We Slay Our White Whale

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 6, 2025

Everyone got a hit in the line up. When was the last time that’s happened? How do you even look that up? I’d love to know the answer.

I know this is crazy to say but I am not giving up on the season. When you have 2 aces (Webby and Ray-ey) and a HOF #3 is has been pitching like a legit #3 lately you really aren’t ever done.

When A Loss Makes No Sound

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 5, 2025

I watched that loss on the Score app on my phone. No sound. No video. Just green and red dots sprinkling the screen around a pretend strike zone with the run total for Pittsburgh clicking upward one by one. After Bart won it I just quietly put the phone down. Why can’t we find a pitcher who can actually close a game successfully? And don’t fucking say “We had Doval” he was one of the worst we’ve ever had in terms of fucking shit to hell on the reg.

Cool Game

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 4, 2025

You know what, fuck it, just enjoy the game day to day. I’m hoping for over .500 by the end of the year. I mostly like this team so it’s not hard to root for them. Easily more appealing than the Farhan days.

Chuck, I had a ticket to the show on Saturday but couldn’t swing it. Would have been hilarious to run into you there.

Under .500 Again

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 3, 2025

Ok, so maybe it’s not Doval’s fault….

He still sucks and I’m glad he’s gone….

But, our bullpen is now in predictable disarray without him or Rogers.

At least it’s an interesting start with The Wiz today. Any of our NY Flap contingent going?

What If Doval Was Just The Cooler’s Cooler?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 2, 2025

Here me out…it’s all been Doval’s fault. Bad body language. Bad luck. Bad karma. Bad juju. Bad everything. And now that he’s gone and doing the same thing to the Yankees the tide has turned in our favor. Fortuna spineth upwards.

Any chance this is how it’s all going down?

Mild Shake Up

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 1, 2025

Butto, Tidwell, Gilbert, Marte, Rodriguez, Vrieling, Harbor, de la Rosa……

When you put it that way, it feels kinda underwhelming.

But it went about as I’d expected. We moved Yaz and Doval. Kept Verlander.

We got 8 guys who none of us have ever heard of. Hope one or two of them work out.

And, That’s A Wrap

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 31, 2025

Below .500. And sinking further. They say we got a good haul for Rogers. Eh, whatever. Apparently, Verlander is on the table. I could see that, even though he’s only got the 1 win he’s clearly still got the velo (for an old man) and there are probably playoff teams out there who would want his experience for the stretch run.

Who else do we have to trade? Maybe Yaz to Boston just to give their fans a little of the old “feels”? Doval? Oh pretty please!

Disastrous year any way you slice it. I can’t remember a Giants team that ever went from the best team in baseball (record wise, you can look it up they had the best record at one point***April 26th they had the 2nd best record with a .643 win %) to the worst team in the league. In the same season.

Pathetic.

Losses Upon Losses

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 29, 2025

Didn’t see the game, was traveling back to the Bay Area. Box score indicates more of the same although we finally got Wizzy up here. That wreaks of desperation which, I suppose it’s time for. Melvin is a ghost. How can a ghost be reasonably expected to lead the living out of this deep hole we are in?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 27, 2025

That was a tough one. Yes, they only scored 1 run (again). But The Hooligan’s ball was a home run in 29 other parks. And Bailey smashed his. It just got caught.

Bad luck.

Seriously, what happened. I have a vague recollection that it starts with a W but after that I got nuthin’.

Agree with James about Schmitt. If he has learned to even pretend to lay off those breaking balls then he’s going to make it up here and be incredibly valuable to that line up. Goddamn he hits long home runs when he hits them.

I still don’t understand the point of Devers at first base. He’s going to give up more runs with his shitty defense than he’s going to produce with his bat although I admit that yesterday was a good start.

Free Falling

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 22, 2025

Kruk was on KNBR yesterday morning saying all of Birdsong’s problems were mechanical (shocker) and that we’d know in the first inning if he’d figured them out or not over the break.

0.0 innings completed.

I guess we got our answer.

Well, at least Elder only struck out one, he struck us out 12 times back in May.

A little known fact is that San Dawg has been going to these games in Toronto. I believe he’ll be there again today, too.

In light of that horrendous, awful game where literally everything bad that could happen, happened I bring you an email from Stix to distract you from the misery. Sounds like he’s had a tough time lately but he’s alive and that’s more than you can say for JV’s arm right now…..

Carstie ClausenFri, Jul 18, 8:31 PM (8 hours ago)
to me

Craig:  Been awhile.  Had some medical issues, but kept up on Gigantes.  Tonight’s shutout by Toronto was, well, disenchanting.  Giants actually outhit them by 11-10.  So our HOF probability is currently 0-8.  Chances are, with the Deadline looming, he gets one more start.  He didn’t fool them in the first couple frames…but that third inning…In comes Tristan Beck and he goes 4.1 IP, giving up exactly one hit, gets a couple K’s and walks precisely nobody.  He kinda made up for his first relief stint which went haywire fast.  Seven ground-outs and one fly out is kinda comforting after yet another fiasco from a guy who may get selected for the pen…or maybe could take on a pitching coach role for the rest of the contract.

Something I was expecting was that Scott Alexander got designated and is now a F.A.  With his record, only the dearth of southpaws in the pen got him the call.

So here comes the heartwarmer: Lefty reliever Matt Gage, was initially drafted tenth round by SF in 2014.  He sojourned through the pipeline for a few years and then got picked up by other organizations and even did a season in the Mexican league.  Gigantes picked him up again and at age 32, maybe, maybe.  He pitched a reasonably clean inning, following Beck.  His 3 team pipeline stint added to a 1.43 ERA over 37.2 IP, gave up a couple dingers over the span, accumulating a pair of walks v.15 k.’s. A WHIP of 0.93 was the frosting on the cake.

SacTown has a couple of possible sooner than later possibilities.  One is the Taiwanese Kai-Wei Teng, who was scuffling in the pipeline for a few years and then appeared to find himself as a starter and pretty good strikeout artist this go-gound.  He’s given up all of three taters, along with a 3.78 ERA, sporting a tightwad 18 BBs against 82 K’s.  Maybe he has learned to pitch, perhaps well enough to be a #5 starter in an MLB rotation.

So far as I know, Teng is not on the 40-man…and so is the second intriguing prospect, Grant MCcrea, a speedster outfielder.  His production level has included 61 runs scored along with 59 Rib-Eyes, for 120 runs produced on 99 hits.  With 34XBH’s are 16 doubles, five triples and 13 homers.  His only downer is 44walks against 115 strikeouts.  His BA is a reasonable .269, an OBP of a decent .343, an SP of 446 for an OPS of a comfy 789.  Icing on the cake are 26 stolen bases as against getting thrown out exactly twice.  Logically, he would replace Matos, who does get the occasional tater, but outside from that…not much.

Here’s one for the real stats freaks:  BBIP.  Giants record on those drives to the outfield which get caught, particularly the liners, has got to be right near the unluckiest in MLB.  It happened again tonight.  Yes, there were the usual strikeouts and a dp or two, but the proportion of batted balls which discovered leather seems to have been a pattern this season.

Wilmer must be stewing right about now.  Not so long ago he had for a day or two the highest number of RBI’s in MLB.  Now, he’s mostly butt on pine.  Not likely a happy camper. Could be that he, Encarnacion and Matos may be on the trade list. Some team, close, but not quite there might caugh up a nice deal for our erstwhile Rib-Eye griller.

Hoping all the guys are still on board at the Flap.  Been a wild and strange season for me these past few months.  On penultimate day of November, an extremely cold and windy one, the old homestead house burned down.  Then to add some black pepper, there was a heart attack on Easter weekend.  Double bypass surgery.  Still in recovery mode, but energy levels not quite up to par.

 GO GIANTS!  -Stix

Bring It On!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 18, 2025

I had a nice, needed break from baseball. Didn’t watch the Derby or any of the all star game. And The Skipper provided a nice trip down memory lane of some great Giants history.

Interesting choice to have Verlander start today. He actually pitched pretty well in that 13-zip demolition at the hands of the Phillies. I’m going to lean positive here and say he kick starts the second half with a good start and we don’t have to stare at that ugly 0-7 any longer.
