A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

What a Game

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 4, 2010

Last night’s game felt like about 4 games, didn’t it? Easily one of the most gut punching, entertaining games of the year. I can’t say enough about how our guys came into the 7th inning. I made Ishikawa the POTG but it could have easily been a tie between Torres/Franchez/Huff for what those guys did at the plate after we lost the lead…..

Anyone who thinks Tracy is a great manager, I’d think again if I were you. DUMB idea to let Beimel pitch to Panda. JT was looking at Panda’s splits this year (.218 vs lefties) but last year he hit .379 against them. And even if you are going to go with just this year you don’t do it with freaking Beimel, a confirmed specialist who does much better work just facing lefties.  And I agree with you WILLIEd, what does Seth Smith have to do to get into that Rockie line up everyday???? Tracy’s commitment to “Spilly” is hilarious, Smith’s rocking the world with an .874 OPS when he’s allowed to play. I also think he bungled the handling of Iannetta. But I digress, this is a Giants blog and I’m blathering on about the Rockies…..

Anyway, fabulous, gutty win……

Rohand — freekin useless, horrendous last 2 ABs. The pitcher only needs to throw it in the vicinity of the plate and he swings. They have got to deal his ass outta here in the offseason…

Poor throw by El Presidente. Even worse defense on the throw by Rent. Rent’s usefullness is definitely in question. The team has been on a slide ever since he got back into the starting lineup…

OK boys, we have to win it this inning. We got the reprieve with the bases loaded. This is a “two part” rain storm, traveling west to east . . . First part just hit and the second part is coming and will be MORE intense. They have this inning to score (maybe 2), then the game will be delayed or postponed due to rain.

After a while, the odds just run out on you; that’s just reality. I literally cannot suffer this much more. You cannot pull this off twice. If so, the cosmos MUST grant you a win.

  28. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on July 4, 2010 at 5:35 pm

I think the Giants tempted fate one too many times. Last time it was reported, the Rocks had left 10 men on base . . . since the 9th inning. Probably up to 13 after the last inning and will be 16 if Giants escape this shit.

Too much shades of last year. At least we did not walk in a run with the pitcher at bat. Well, we put up a noble fight. Small consolation. (Why wasn’t it a GR double for Fowler? They said it stuck in the wall.)

Brutal. Not a good way to get outta town to head back east. They gotta bounce back immediately or this roadie could get ugly. If Whiteside and Rohand are in the same starting LU anytime soon, Bonehead should be given a red card….

15 innings — that’s how many it went, right? — and the Giants couldn’t score in 14 of ’em. It’s amazing it went that long.

Still, fuck the Rockies and their stupid purple mascot.

  42. alleykat's avatar alleykat said, on July 4, 2010 at 5:45 pm

The problem is Bonehead ain’t going anywhere. The last time a Giant manager was fired mid-season was Jim Davenport 56-88 and that was still with only 18 games left, being replaced by Roger Craig.Things always move slow with this organization,so don’t expect any changes.Sigh……

  43. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 4, 2010 at 5:46 pm

When they left Huff n Puff stranded at 3rd with nobody out, you had to think this one was gonna go bad, ultimately. Can’t really blame the pen, they bent to about horizontal three innings in a row, but didn’t break until the offense had some shots to take the lead. Just don’t have the hitting to get it done….

  44. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on July 4, 2010 at 5:50 pm

AP recap says, “The Rockies stranded 20 baserunners, including 12 from the eighth through the 14th.”

I have to recall something Robert C. Byrd was purported to have said. No sporting event ever changed history. I suppose barring some English football hooliganism and the odd historical aberration, that’s true. This is all bullshit on my part. I am simply looking for salve for the wounds. Fuckinpurpledouchebags.

I’ll put the games on later, seems I missed a lot, including a nice weekend for Travis. I’m tuckered, we went to Cobb, where Bea has a cabin. Talked, swam, a hike, had some nice ‘Que. No internet or TV there, by her choice. It was nice being “disconnected” for a couple days.

  48. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 4, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Onto my second brew. Giants need to play .605 ball (49 – 32) the rest of the way to get to 90 wins. And they have more road games than home games. Division win ain’t happenin. Maybe the wild card, but that looks pretty dubious right now…

  49. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 4, 2010 at 7:49 pm

totally disagree SNARKK, the division is what’s winable, not the wild card. SD will come back in Aug, maybe early Sept–there’s no way those young arms all put 225 innings on themselves and keep this up. The Dodgers aren’t adding payroll and their SP sucks balls. COlorado looks good in their park but even this weekend I feel like we were better than them if it weren’t for the shitty managing that we all SAW unfold….
This is totally doable. I’d like to see a trade but won’t count on it to win the NL West……..

  50. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 4, 2010 at 7:49 pm

Bochy’s rationale for pinch running Whitey for Jesus Christ: He thought Whiteside had a better chance of scoring on a gapper. It’s magic alright.

Best pitching staff in the majors didn’t get one nod for the ASG. Just what we needed, more motivation for the Friars.

  51. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 4, 2010 at 7:50 pm

by the way, I restructured the ALL STAR GAME CONTEST so that it’s just the “Wilson/Lincecum” guys who are at the top. Looks quite competitive and I LOVE that Max is the only guy who took the AL. Zumie and I would tie so Twin has to come up with a sudden death tie breaker if that happens……

  52. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 4, 2010 at 8:03 pm

Flavor, don’t forget that Huff in particular could still get in. So those who have Lincecum/Wilson PLUS are still in it. I’ll come up with a tie breaker…
Running for Posey is a baffler, He wasn’t even the lead run, that was at third. What were the odds that they get the gapper AND it’s the diference of one step to score or not? Just watched Eli’s AB after “The Bat” K’ed. Pathetic, as usual.

  53. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on July 4, 2010 at 8:20 pm

How could Huff get in? You mean if guys injure-out? Votto will win the last spot if anything about the world makes sense. Don’t count on that dumb-fuck Manuel to do anything right, the Infante-add was hilarious. I’ve always said Charlie Manuel is just a good ‘ol boy who shuffled himself up to a MLB manager job…..
If Huff somehow gets in I’ll re-arrange it……

  54. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 4, 2010 at 8:45 pm

The point is just that the contest is not just still open to those who have Wilson/Lincecum. Some years a few guys beg out. Don’t throw your betting stubs away quite yet..

I’m ready to eat my words on Nate and reiterate them on Travis. The time has come, if no trade is forthcoming, for both to sink or swim and take the team with them. Here’s the ****EVERYDAY**** LU, we’ve seen enough either offensively or defensively of others. And for once it can genuinely be said that ” it can’t be worse”.
    Torres CF
    Sanchez 2B
    Sandoval 3B
    Huff LF
    Uribe SS
    Ishikawa 1B
    Posey C
    Schierholtz RF
I’ll allow a semi-platoon at 1B where Huff goes there against LHers and Burrell gets LF. Other than that, this is everyday.

  58. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 4, 2010 at 11:52 pm

Rent came off the DL swinging well, 10 for 24. But beginning in the Dodger series it was like he grew old before our eyes. It would not surprise me if he was hurting again but no matter, he’s something like 1 for 18 now and he doesn’t even look like a threat for a hit. There was ample reason to give he and Rowand evey chance but as I’ve said before: when the “kids” get their limited chances, they have to deliver. Nate, and to a larger extent, Travis, have done exactly that. They’ve earned it over the vets by virtue of their play. The time has come.
