A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

And that’s why they play the game…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 6, 2010

Baseball is a trip. How the hell does a team come into a game totally and completely gassed and yet win fairly easily? And your starting pitcher gets the win with a WHIP of nearly 2.00 for the game? Of course, the guy who looked most gassed in Colorado, Huff, is easily the POTG. Yesterday’s game is a good example of why betting on baseball is d-u-m-b.  But what a great win….

I think Posey’s wrist is something we need to be more concerned about. They say it was nothing but I’ve dealt with wrist injuries my whole life. In fact, about 5 years ago I tore my right wrist lig playing in a softball game diving for a ball. I didn’t know the damage at the time. I ended up getting 2 more at bats in the game hitting a home run in my final at bat. Had a cast on for 6 weeks after that.  That was the first thing I thought of when I saw what Posey did yesterday. Obviously totally different situations but my point is that just because he hit a bomb after the “grimace” that doesn’t mean he’s all good. He may have irritated a different spot in the wrist. Oh well, I guess we’ll see how that shakes out…..

So I’m wondering if, on an Atlanta Braves blog, they did the same kind of all star game contest we did. Which dude had Omar Infante, lol? What a joke…..

Somebody needs to put Renteria outta his misery. We need a goddamn SS. As of today, who opens for us next Opening Day? Good chance he’s the current night mgr. at your local 7-Eleven. Jesus.

Can’t believe Braun’s AB,thought no one could look as bad as Rowand.

When Giants were rolling earlier this year, they were 15-16th in MLB in BBs taken. Now they’re 26th. Certainly a factor in not scoring…

Terrible AB for Panda . . . no clue.

  5. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 6, 2010 at 6:14 pm

That was one of his better ABs against a LHer, Blade. Had real good swings.

Freekin Panda is goin to hit the Mendoza line hitting RH’d at this rate. Just stop it. Hit all LH’d, see what happens. I don’t understand this switch hitting stubborness when from one side you can’t hit worth a crap. After half a season of futility, there’s no real point in it anymore. Pick it up again in the offseason and work out the kinks then…

Entering tonight, Wolf was avg. 4 1/2 walks/9 innings. You’d think we’d get one by accident.

I pissed off TF with one of my first posts on the Splash comparing Pablo to Robinson Cano. See the latter’s 2008 stats. Cano is one of the rare hackers who actually delivers.

  9. twinfan's avatar twinfan said, on July 6, 2010 at 6:21 pm

Funny, I was going to do a post on Cano/Sandoval.

I don’t get why there would even be rumors of a Hart trade. I don’t see what he would bring to the Giants better than Burrell.

By end of last year, Wolf might have been LA’s best and most consistent starter. He knows what he’s doing…even when it comes to beaning someone,I’d bet.

There’s the BBs, now make him pay for them.

I still say if you gave Bochy a speedier team, he’d play it that way more often. Torres is getting really good at stealing third, and other than him, there isn’t another threat on the team. But he is not going to play that way with what he has.

Wolf was gonna get out of that one too.

No stupider rule in all of baseball that says you can’t assume double play. Official scorers make judgment calls all the time about hit / error, so why not in the case of a DP as well?

Agree Mike . . . Any idea why Travis was in the dog house (if in fact, he was in the doghouse)? I can understand that he didn’t play when there was a logjam at 1st with Huff and DeRosa, but when DeRosa got injured, why didn’t he play? Does Baggs or Schulman have any theories on why he didn’t play?

blade, no way Travis was in the doghouse. But with Huff and Posey manning 1st, there is not a spot for Ishi. Now with Posey firmly behind the plate, and Huff an outfielder, the team needs a first baseman. Ishi, step to the plate.

This is the pitcher I was really hoping would show up this season. Bumgarner’s a stud. The Giants have been down but good pitching and a decent move by Sabean (let’s hope) might be all it takes to turn this thing around. They’re not down by an insurmountable number of games.

  74. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on July 6, 2010 at 7:30 pm

Baggs, citing Dusty from back in ’98, pointed out that gaining one game per week would get the job done. If the Brewers don’t come up with a big uprising tonight, with the Dagos losing and not having played last night, SF will have gone from a nasty 7.5 out to a not quite impossible looking six. Nats were a bit natsty to Clayton Richard this evening, booming his ERA a bit, so maybe this is the first sign of their hot young starters wearing down as the season progresses.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 6, 2010 at 7:38 pm

Stix, still have 10 remaining with the Dagos (6H, 4A) including the final 3 to end the year.

Kat, with you on the need for a SS pickup. Renteria looks ready for the fork. With some time off, like two games per week, Uribe can still provide some punch.
