A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

3 runs in 2 games? No Problem!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 17, 2010

It’s great to see our pitching staff get back on the beam. If we score 3 runs in two games and lose both the blog world would be imploding with rage. No reason Cain can’t keep it going unless you subscribe to the “METs are due” theory. They aren’t do, they can’t hit. They’re due for another bat or two, I guess……

Zito was the easy choice for POTG….

San Diego is only 17-15 vs The NL West– They’re what, 7-0 against us? Something like that. Looks like Colorado and the Dodgers don’t seem to have a problem beating them. They killed AZ last night. What has happened to Danny Haren?

Great win for Zito. Huff’s quote over at Baggs is great….

“I don’t think I’ve ever been that pumped up to score a run in the (fourth) inning. The atmosphere was great. It felt like a playoff game. Not that I would know.”

Yeah Flav, and that was in Dago. Their pen guys walked 5, hit a guy and gave up 4 uns on 1 hit in the 9th. Wonder how Gibson likes his team so far.

Rox drop another on the road to the Central, and once again Cards slap around LA starter as Barbs gives up 6 runs in 4, and Manny is hurt again. CBS sports in the story I read yesterday said LA had put Sherrill on waivers, after he gave up a run in an inning to hike his ERA to over 7.00. Plus they called up Macdonald, a bust last year as a starter at beginning of year, and in today Chron they have him listed as opposing Bum on Monday.

As for WC, we’re a half game out. Phlily lost at home to the Cubs, and their lineup is just not
up to it this season: Rollins at .240, Victorino at .250, Werth at .275, plus Ben Francisco .230, Cody Ransom and the Valdez kid for Utley at 2B.

When I see the Mets, I’m just so glad Sabes didn’t get Bay for $17 fucking mil for however many years. I realize they have missed Reyes and Beltran for a lot of time, but that is not a great hitting team, and Bay isn’t an MVP type guy capable of carrying them The guys that burned us when we were there before, Barajas and Davis aren’t doing much either.

Great start by great pitching. Trade Ishi while he has a little value and a starter and get Dunn or some other MOTO guy. Still like the Rowand for Zambrano idea for both teams as well. Pitching tailed off a little later last year so need some horses to pick up the slack in August/Sept and would be severely disappointing to fall a little short when they have the chance to win the division and go deep in the playoffs.

I totally disagree this lineup will be able to do anything in the playoffs assuming we could get there ‘as is’.

We have witnessed many unlikely events already this season.Stephen Strasburg striking out 14 in his MLB debut,Four no-hitters,two perfect games, should have been 3,and the NL actually winning an A/S game.but I can say without hesitation that Bengie Molina’s CYCLE against the Redsox’s on Friday night was the most improbable of them all.

Molina was 3-3 with a single, double, and a go ahead Grand Slam when he came to bat in the 8th.Texas manager Ron Washington standing in the dugout asked somebody,”Where does Molina have to hit the ball to get a triple? The answer:”Nowhere in this park.”

But he found the perfect spot,Molina hit one to deep center that glanced off of CF Eric Patterson glove and ended up in cut out the deepest part of the park the right CF corner 420 ft from home plate. So Bengie put it in his best granny gear speed and chugged it all out to third and made it,yes standing up.Way to go Bengie!!Truly a feat that will be remembered in baseball forever.

I had already been seeing some gloating over Bengie’s poor start in Texas. I’ve never understood why a fan doesn’t just wish a player good luck on his new team. Why would Bengie’s failure be a cause for glee? So ask yourself: are you a “God speed and good luck” guy? Or a “Good riddance, Fatso”?

  6. James's avatar James said, on July 17, 2010 at 11:26 am

Bengie had 5 triples in 13 seasons prior to last night, or one every 1000 or so PAs. That he hit his 6th in his *last* AB as part of a cycle is mind boggling.

I’d rather give the credit to the pitchers than say the Mets can’t hit…Also, Zito improved to 6-1 with a 2.51 ERA at home this season.

I guess we should now call him Todd Wellemeyer II.

Looks like we’re catching a bit of a break by missing Pelrey and getting Takahashi instead. Gets a stiff neck and back from the flight into SFO. The pussification of America continues on…couple a funny quotes from the Panda while talking to the kids about nutrition at the American Heart Association. What’s your favorite food? “Lasagna.” Why did you choose baseball over soccer while growing up in Venezuela? “Because I don’t like to run a lot.” You can’t help but love that kid. Missed the whole game last night. Looks like my crack about Bonehead getting Zito’s dander up might have had some truth. Hopefully, the second half turns out to fit Zito’s pattern of 2nd half improvement (other than his first year in SF). And I’ll certainly give credit to Bengielena for the cycle and a grand salami in the same game. I’ll give him extra credit for doing the cycle carrying those 44DDs. My only question was whereinhell was that from April to June…

I agree, TF, incredibly tone-deaf marketing by FOX to not give Nor. Cal. the Dodger game. It should have been an easy obvious decision. Didn’t anyone at FOX give that decision even a few seconds of thought?

  26. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on July 17, 2010 at 4:09 pm

I wish we got the Dodger game too, but the Yankees draw the best ratings; here, there, everywhere. If Fox’s marketing research would have determined that the A’s and Royals would have drawn better, we’d have got that game. Then the world would have ended, but we would have got that game.
