A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Time For the Team to Get FOCUSED. Quick, Everyone take some Adderall~

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 3, 2010

Ha, kidding. Tonight is nose-to-the-grind time. I don’t think Colorado is a better overall team than we are but they do play extremely well in their park 35-18 (who doesn’t, right?). This is a time for Dirrrrty to step up. He has never pitched well against Colorado, either in their park or ours—6.25 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in COl (he’s even a little worse than that in SF V them). It’s not the hits so much as the walks, he’s 23 free passes in 31.1 innings in Denver. That tells me he’s tripping on the park a bit and trying to be too fine,  living on the corners. Dude just need to trust his stuff……

Despite the lack of confidence I have in Dirrrrty tonight, the TEAM couldn’t be heading into this series with more confidence. No one is in a major slump and we’re getting contributions from pretty much everyone on the team. Lopez is probably going to appear in both 0f these games. It’s nice to know the bullpen has been revamped in a positive way as we head into this tricky little 6 game road trip…..

I feel a little funny about this Colorado series, The team overall is on a roll but starting a road trip with your 4 and 5 is sobering. Hopefully the residue of the Dodgers series is still in everyone’s system. I like Sanchez. I can’t think of anyone (available) I’d want to have them trade him for but I have to admit, he doesn’t make it easy

  3. Kevin's avatar Kevin said, on August 3, 2010 at 8:08 am

You are absolutely right BF, Sanchez needs to step up right now. He is no longer a work in progress. this should have been his break out year. I think that if he faulters the next two months he could be gone next year. He does not need to live on the outside or inside part of the plate, he just needs to pitch.
GO GIANTS. a 4-2 road trip!!

  4. Giant Head's avatar Giant Head said, on August 3, 2010 at 8:25 am

Sanchez hopefully watched Matt Cain very closely on Sunday! He need sto do the same tonight..go after these fuckers.

Is there any talk about skipping Bum on Wednesday for Timmy? I would rather see Tim battling Jimenez, especially if we win tonight.

  5. Giant Head's avatar Giant Head said, on August 3, 2010 at 8:32 am

Fantasy league question: dont the players who were traded to the Dodgers, Theriot and Dotel, need to be dropped???

But Blade your 967.1 innings pitched are going to be interesting to see how it plays out. I am spotting you 172 innings! What is that about an extra 30 starts for me:)

I need to make up 17 wins and 177 strikeouts…so a win every other start and about 6 strikeout per start and I then I am right there!!!

  6. Flavor's avatar bigflavor said, on August 3, 2010 at 8:35 am

GH– no, if they were traded mid season the teams that own them can keep them……
I love that story about the Mannywood sign coming down. He’s headed into his third week with a right calf strain. Jesus, if it’s not torn or doesn’t need surgery it’s hilarious that he’s taking this long to get over a calf strain–that’s a week out, tops. Most guys would be back in 2 or 3 days…….

  7. Giant Head's avatar Giant Head said, on August 3, 2010 at 8:38 am

Actually may be good they are holding onto those two losers 🙂

I think Manny is going to get traded this month after clearing waivers…White Sox probably…

  8. stixwiz's avatar stixwiz said, on August 3, 2010 at 8:41 am

Tonight could end up as a slugfest between a couple of fairly evenly matched offensive teams. To reiterate statements made yesterday, Giants need to get into Cook’s kitchen early on and not let up on either him or their bullpen. Ultimately, this one could resolve as a battle of the bullpens, where IMHO, the Giants now have a slight edge.

Though this one is not precisely a must win, its a big one because Latos of the Padres should have an edge over Lilly for the flailing LaBumbos. Sticking at two games out keeps the pressure on the Dagos. They get back to a 3 game bulge and they will revert to full confidence mode. A quality start by Sanchez would make all the difference.

  9. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on August 3, 2010 at 8:43 am

Sanchez obviously was the Giants’ most-rumored trade chip, so now that the deadline has passed maybe he can really settle in and deliver some big-time games. With starts in two of the toughest road parks to play in this year, he better be up to the challenge.

  11. alleykat's avatar alleykat said, on August 3, 2010 at 9:04 am

When is it not ever an issue about walks with Sanchez? Every start it’s a long drawn out grind. For once i would just love to see him in a rhythm with a nice controlled ARM SLOT!!! It’s simple with Dirrty,if you get 7 innings and 3 BB’s around 100 pitches he will win,5 innings 6 BB’s 105 pitches he will lose. This is only a 2 game series which is strange,so a split would be fine, the real tough one is in Atlanta for 4 where the Braves just don’t lose at home (35-13) best pct in baseball, so it’s good that we have our best starters set up for that one.

  12. JBat's avatar JBat said, on August 3, 2010 at 9:12 am

Slightly off topic question. I live in Hawaii, which for some bizarre reason is part of the Giants home television territory. Only on cable and satellite they show only the LA teams. So what that means is that when I subscribed to mlb.tv I found that the games were blacked out due to being in their “home” market. Does anyone know of any websites I might be able to stream the games on?

    • xootsuit's avatar xootsuit said, on August 3, 2010 at 10:30 am

A player needs 5 seasons with the team and at least one AS appearance (or 9 seasons with the team and a lot of good will) to be considered for the Wall of Fame. Was Benard ever an AS? That seems fucking impossible, like asking, was Bud Selig ever a decent human being. And if Benard was with the team for 9 seasons, then my mind has deeply repressed that unpleasant memory.

Yeah, I’d rather have Bum go against Ubaldo. Timmy’s had his ups and downs this season, and the last time he faced Ubaldo, he didn’t do too well. Bum’s going well and his confidence is high. If he can beat Ubaldo, his confidence would soar right through the stretch.

Teams now have 48 hrs to claim the slugger. He has to go thru the NL teams first so no way an AL team will get him.The Giants should put it a claim, though some schmucks like the Rox’s are Bums will stop that i’m sure.

If a NL team places a claim,as expected the Nats would have 3 options:
    1) Let Dunn go to that team without extracting any trade pieces.
2)Trade Dunn to the team awarded the claim.
3)Or pull Dunn back and have the Slugger finish the season in Washington.

I can dig that. No need to have his 1st start back be against a pitcher he doesn’t see well. When we run Cook in the 5th, Uribe can come in off the bench to blow the game open.

Not a bad move at all….

I saw that AK. I was surprised as well. I thought they were going to be off the list entirely.

Although Krukie has been behind the Giants pretty much all year.

Well Ted you” ignorant slut” Pat Burrell is 13-22 off of Cook .591 avg 1.398 ops and in the 22 AB’s he’s only K’d once so he obviously See’s him well.Gotta keep Burrell in with those stats.

I was just being facetious because of the suggestion to take out Ishi and put Nate in the OF.
On the other hand, I *AM* an ignorant slut

More of anybody in the OF…less of nate

Maybe the Giants could play Nate’s brother instead .He has more HITS then Nate recently.

By the by, prepare for a very long game . . . The clouds just shot their load over my mountain home and the way things work around here – the rain clouds go west to east and should be arriving at Coors Field in about an hour or less.

3bagger, the inside Colorado weatherman joke is as follows, “We don’t predict the weather . . . we just report it.”

Given the our recent consistency on offense, there isn’t the pressure to try and make a 1-0 lead stand up for 9 at Coors Field like our last visit. Go Giants!

Ok, I’m out for a few hours. Will try to catch some of the game. A rain delay would actually help me out……..
