Time For the Team to Get FOCUSED. Quick, Everyone take some Adderall~
Ha, kidding. Tonight is nose-to-the-grind time. I don’t think Colorado is a better overall team than we are but they do play extremely well in their park 35-18 (who doesn’t, right?). This is a time for Dirrrrty to step up. He has never pitched well against Colorado, either in their park or ours—6.25 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in COl (he’s even a little worse than that in SF V them). It’s not the hits so much as the walks, he’s 23 free passes in 31.1 innings in Denver. That tells me he’s tripping on the park a bit and trying to be too fine, living on the corners. Dude just need to trust his stuff……
Despite the lack of confidence I have in Dirrrrty tonight, the TEAM couldn’t be heading into this series with more confidence. No one is in a major slump and we’re getting contributions from pretty much everyone on the team. Lopez is probably going to appear in both 0f these games. It’s nice to know the bullpen has been revamped in a positive way as we head into this tricky little 6 game road trip…..
Flav, I just saw your message in the Flap League trying to motivate the other teams to dethrone me . . . Good, I need some competition. Bring it on . . . By the by, these are the FB standings as of today:

I did my part – no trades! I saw through your evil plot early on…
Jean, you’re the only one I fear in this league 🙂
I feel a little funny about this Colorado series, The team overall is on a roll but starting a road trip with your 4 and 5 is sobering. Hopefully the residue of the Dodgers series is still in everyone’s system. I like Sanchez. I can’t think of anyone (available) I’d want to have them trade him for but I have to admit, he doesn’t make it easy
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Dodgers-get-rid-of-Mannywood-sign-080210
You are absolutely right BF, Sanchez needs to step up right now. He is no longer a work in progress. this should have been his break out year. I think that if he faulters the next two months he could be gone next year. He does not need to live on the outside or inside part of the plate, he just needs to pitch.
GO GIANTS. a 4-2 road trip!!
Sanchez hopefully watched Matt Cain very closely on Sunday! He need sto do the same tonight..go after these fuckers.
Is there any talk about skipping Bum on Wednesday for Timmy? I would rather see Tim battling Jimenez, especially if we win tonight.
Fantasy league question: dont the players who were traded to the Dodgers, Theriot and Dotel, need to be dropped???
But Blade your 967.1 innings pitched are going to be interesting to see how it plays out. I am spotting you 172 innings! What is that about an extra 30 starts for me:)
I need to make up 17 wins and 177 strikeouts…so a win every other start and about 6 strikeout per start and I then I am right there!!!
GH– no, if they were traded mid season the teams that own them can keep them……
I love that story about the Mannywood sign coming down. He’s headed into his third week with a right calf strain. Jesus, if it’s not torn or doesn’t need surgery it’s hilarious that he’s taking this long to get over a calf strain–that’s a week out, tops. Most guys would be back in 2 or 3 days…….
Actually may be good they are holding onto those two losers 🙂
I think Manny is going to get traded this month after clearing waivers…White Sox probably…
Tonight could end up as a slugfest between a couple of fairly evenly matched offensive teams. To reiterate statements made yesterday, Giants need to get into Cook’s kitchen early on and not let up on either him or their bullpen. Ultimately, this one could resolve as a battle of the bullpens, where IMHO, the Giants now have a slight edge.
Though this one is not precisely a must win, its a big one because Latos of the Padres should have an edge over Lilly for the flailing LaBumbos. Sticking at two games out keeps the pressure on the Dagos. They get back to a 3 game bulge and they will revert to full confidence mode. A quality start by Sanchez would make all the difference.
Sanchez obviously was the Giants’ most-rumored trade chip, so now that the deadline has passed maybe he can really settle in and deliver some big-time games. With starts in two of the toughest road parks to play in this year, he better be up to the challenge.
Yes, Dirty, step it the hell up and keep things going.
I haven’t seen ChiPower posting lately. Anyone know what’s going on with him?
When is it not ever an issue about walks with Sanchez? Every start it’s a long drawn out grind. For once i would just love to see him in a rhythm with a nice controlled ARM SLOT!!! It’s simple with Dirrty,if you get 7 innings and 3 BB’s around 100 pitches he will win,5 innings 6 BB’s 105 pitches he will lose. This is only a 2 game series which is strange,so a split would be fine, the real tough one is in Atlanta for 4 where the Braves just don’t lose at home (35-13) best pct in baseball, so it’s good that we have our best starters set up for that one.
Screw the Braves. It’s time for them to lose a few at home. They are about to meet the buzz saw that is the San Francisco Giants.
Chi went up to Humbolt, I think, for vacation….
STIX– this game could be high scoring. Dirrrrty sucks in Colorado and our guys hit Cook well. O/U is *only* 9. Might have to play the over in this one…..
Flav, the over is looking good there…
who is the favorite? Rockies? If so, parlay that shit…
Slightly off topic question. I live in Hawaii, which for some bizarre reason is part of the Giants home television territory. Only on cable and satellite they show only the LA teams. So what that means is that when I subscribed to mlb.tv I found that the games were blacked out due to being in their “home” market. Does anyone know of any websites I might be able to stream the games on?
the dudes here have that covered Sarge, I’ll let them give you the details. I’ve seen them post something about “justin tv” whatever that is…..
Thats part of the Timberlake Enterprises
Good one Ted!
Kat, that is a good point and an argument not to skip Bum’s start on Wednesday in Colorado.
Yeah it is. And I think Bochy already said something to the area of not messing with the rotation just yet. I *think* it was Bochy. Maybe it was someone here.
At the end of John Shea’s article titled the Bull Pen, he asks why Marvin Benard has not been mentioned for the Wall of Fame at AT&T. Are you kidding me??? Marvin Benard Wall of Fame candidate please!!
A player needs 5 seasons with the team and at least one AS appearance (or 9 seasons with the team and a lot of good will) to be considered for the Wall of Fame. Was Benard ever an AS? That seems fucking impossible, like asking, was Bud Selig ever a decent human being. And if Benard was with the team for 9 seasons, then my mind has deeply repressed that unpleasant memory.
well, he played about a dozen games in 1995 and quit after 2003, when roid testing was on his ass. so, shit, technically he’s eligible. ridiculous idea.
Yeah, I’d rather have Bum go against Ubaldo. Timmy’s had his ups and downs this season, and the last time he faced Ubaldo, he didn’t do too well. Bum’s going well and his confidence is high. If he can beat Ubaldo, his confidence would soar right through the stretch.
Sarge: What’s been working for me is
The suspense was killing us!
justin.tv/kostaz003. Made the mistake of placing it in those little ,. capped brackets. Didn’t know that wouldn’t work here. But there’s the connexion.
Thanks, I’ll give it a shot.
any roster news on making room for the new reliever Ramirez? Bautista hopefully is the casualty?
Wasn’t it Rohlinger? I’m confused
They sent down Rollinger.
…or maybe I’m not
Yeah, the head genius in charge thought it fit to go with a 13-man staff again.
Can’t wait for Whitey to bat with the bases juiced late in a game because our bench is dry.
13 pitchers is just plain dumb. On the other hand, maybe I can look forward to Romo getting another AB.
So they are going back to 13 pithcers for this road trip? hmmmmmmm…I like having the extra bat on the roster, especially if Uribe is not 100%…
Thanks Dennis…Bautista seems pretty worthless to have on the roster…what is Velez’ status?
I dunno. I was asking ’bout him last night. I’m guessing it’s the old, “no news is good news” with him.
Rohlinger as the extra bat when he has options, instead of releasing a pitcher right now? Get your priorty right. This month, probably see more roster tinkering anyway. Last day of the month, po roster has to get set. At least for the ds….
they might 13 pitchers just to get through this road trip. If Bochy has to go deep into the BP for these next two games we could get hosed in Atlanta. But after the trip, you got me why they are carrying this many arms……..
Damn, our hitters light up Aaron Cook like a Christmas tree. Collective .415 (.996 OPS) in 123 ABs.
Even Bochy couldn’t screw up tonight’s lineup. 🙂
I’m hoping Santa comes to the Giants tonight.
I’m going to give you the answer you want: they are going with 13 pitchers because they have no idea what they are doing PLUS Bautista is carrying Bochy’s love child..
the later has to be the answer…I take it that Uribe is close to 100% then if they are going on a road trip with 13 pitchers…
Threw it in the Blogticulator. Record with the Flap’s All-Time 10 Worst Line Ups:
10-0
Michael…Good to see in your stroke.
Not even close, WSW.
sorry to hear that…but your mind as always, sharp as a tack.
Flav, heading to the game tomorrow and will try to take pictures for the blog.
sweet, thanks Blade……
I took the penalty boxes down–not as much fun as I thought they’d be. Probably just going to delete a lot of things in regards to the expectations I put forth the other day should a need for it arise). But everyone seems to be respecting my wishes, I appreciate that……
Adam Dunn placed on waivers:
Teams now have 48 hrs to claim the slugger. He has to go thru the NL teams first so no way an AL team will get him.The Giants should put it a claim, though some schmucks like the Rox’s are Bums will stop that i’m sure.
If a NL team places a claim,as expected the Nats would have 3 options:
1) Let Dunn go to that team without extracting any trade pieces.
2)Trade Dunn to the team awarded the claim.
3)Or pull Dunn back and have the Slugger finish the season in Washington.
Ahhhh. Semi-self-imposed civility. It makes the blog less exciting in some ways, but on the other hand there should be more baseball talk.
Alright Blade…Have a great time tomorrow as Mad Max Bumgarner out duels Jimenez at the Rock Pile.As Giants complete a 2 game sweep! Sinking the Rox’s a mile below sea level and out of the race with the putrid Bums.
Kat, I almost feel conflicted about having Ubaldo on my Fantasy League team . . . NOT! I will gladly enjoy him and the Rocks getting shredded by the G-Men. Going to be a perfect afternoon game as the heat wave we’ve been having here will go away and we’ll have decent mid-80s weather.
A Dunn deal? I don’t think so.
Ooh. Where’s that penalty box, Flav?
Just decided to bag it. It’s easier to just start deleting everything in sight…..
kat…every mlb player will be on waivers…no big deal
Waiver or no, I still don’t see Dunn coming to SF without the nats getting one of the starting pitchers. So, I think what we have is what we have.
Yeah, going with two other friends of mine – one is a transplanted Wisconsin native (read Green Bay Packers and Brewer fan) and a “homegrown” Rockies’ fan, whom I especially love to torment. Ha.
Yeah- it IS mindboggling that Benard was on the Giants 9 years.
Even more mind boggling is that my ex-girlfriend named her dog Benard after that no good cheating POS.
He was a real saint, I bet . . .
Oy
Still no Juan. Go get’em Dirty.
CF Torres
2B F. Sanchez
RF Huff
C Posey
LF Burrell
1B Ishikawa
3B Sandoval
SS Renteria
P J. Sanchez
Shit, I like D-Lew more than Benard . . .
As much as I think Ishi ihas a hotter bat than Nate, I’m a little surprised that Nate isn’t in right with Huff at first. Coors is a big outfield and the water buffalo defense could be challenged if Dirty doesn’t have his A game.
Not arguing just wondering, you don’t feel Huff has the outfield skills to handle it?
Huff has been way better than expected this season in every aspect, including his OF defense, but with Burrell in left at the same time, center field just got a whole lot bigger for Andres.
Huff is making plays out there and he’s obviously better at getting to a ball than burrell. But I agree with 3bag- there could be an awful lot of ball chasing going on in the outfield today.
Rowand hits cook well too and he’s hot right now (relatively speaking)
So why not take out Burrell and put in Rowand in center and Torres to right and Huff to left?
(Let the “Ted you ignorant slut” posts begin)
Ted, you ignorant slut . . .
Is yiour real name Ted Knight?
Speaking of Ted Knight, they had a great article about Caddyshack in SI this last week. It’s the 30th anniversary of the release and all.
If Cook doesn’t induce the ground ball (his specialty), then it will be nirvanna for ALL the Giants and pure hell for him and the Rocks.
I agree. His batting average has been steadily climbing. If Cook was a righty, we’d see Rowand.
Cook is RH
I could dig that but burrell hits this guy well too. In fact Pablo hits him worse than anyone and he’s hitting .333 (6 at bats). And burrell is in one of his hit streaks, gotta ride him
ESPN John Kruk called the SF Giants the #2 team in NL power rankings behind San Diego. Kruky drinking again? eh?
John Kruk. Looks like Babe Ruth. Hits like Mildred ‘Babe’ Didrikson Zaharias
Uribe is good to go, but Bochy is going with Rent because of his success vs Cook and Juan’s lack thereof.
And at least Uribe’s healthy
I can dig that. No need to have his 1st start back be against a pitcher he doesn’t see well. When we run Cook in the 5th, Uribe can come in off the bench to blow the game open.
Not a bad move at all….
I saw that AK. I was surprised as well. I thought they were going to be off the list entirely.
Although Krukie has been behind the Giants pretty much all year.
Well Ted you” ignorant slut” Pat Burrell is 13-22 off of Cook .591 avg 1.398 ops and in the 22 AB’s he’s only K’d once so he obviously See’s him well.Gotta keep Burrell in with those stats.
I was just being facetious because of the suggestion to take out Ishi and put Nate in the OF.
On the other hand, I *AM* an ignorant slut
More of anybody in the OF…less of nate
Maybe the Giants could play Nate’s brother instead .He has more HITS then Nate recently.
aint that the truth
Looks like Flav got rid of the penalty box just a little too early…
By the by, prepare for a very long game . . . The clouds just shot their load over my mountain home and the way things work around here – the rain clouds go west to east and should be arriving at Coors Field in about an hour or less.
http://www.weather.com/outlook/events/sports/hourbyhour/graph/36802:20#
3bagger, the inside Colorado weatherman joke is as follows, “We don’t predict the weather . . . we just report it.”
remember this commercial? Funny…….
this guy was funny as hell, had a little Jack Black in him.
LQTM
Loved those commercials. Do you have any more of them? I loved the ‘introduce yourselves’ one…
The Lou seal one is the best one.
Old school . . . kick it!
Check out the crazy crab ad from 78?
FH, under the one playing, there’s a hole bunch of other Giants ads . . .
FH– totally! Ray from across the Bay!!!!
Given the our recent consistency on offense, there isn’t the pressure to try and make a 1-0 lead stand up for 9 at Coors Field like our last visit. Go Giants!
Ok, I’m out for a few hours. Will try to catch some of the game. A rain delay would actually help me out……..
haha, i forgot about this one. CLASSIC.
Matt to the rescue . . .
That one is great Chuck!
