Pat Burrell and Dirrrrty’s Mouth…..
Burrell is the first ever 3 straight game POTG. Again, thank you Tampa Bay…….
Tonight’s game is everything. As I posted a few days ago, I LOVED Dirrrty’s bold prediction, especially after that tough Atlanta series. Now he gets to go out and set the tone. If we dominate the Pads tonight, his prediction will be in full swing to the wire at the quarter pole. If he gets knocked around and if the overrated Richard cobbles together a goodie, Dirrrrrty looks like a chump and, more importantly, we prove we are the same team that this toothless bully has been beating up all year long. All or nothing. I love it……
Dec. 2007 – Sabean on ESPN.com
Mar. 2009 – Homer dunces on Splash. SF won, though hitting sucked all year.
May 2009: check Baggs’ blog
July 2009 trades: c’mon, these are too easy
Jan. 2010: check Baggs’ blog re Huff
Mar. 2010: again, homer dunces around here.
April 2010: just an ugly fact, not a quote
May 2010: Bochy quote on MLB.com
June 2010: daily Bochy BS on pregame show during June skid
June 29, 2010: Sabean on AOL fanhouse re Freddy below
Aug. 2010: Bochy quote re Fontenot per Baggs
http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/06/29/brian-sabean-giants-wont-rent-players/
“We are not interested in free agents,” Sabean told FanHouse. “We don’t want to rent players. That doesn’t make sense for us. We’ve got to find someone we can control, much like the Freddy Sanchez deal, and hope that presents itself.” “Anybody that fits that mold,” Sabean said, “we are going to be heavy in the scouting side of it and see if it makes sense to explore.” “I don’t know you ever have enough starting pitching,” he said. “I’m not sure what our depth is.” (Last remark was too moronic to pass on.)
Half the starting LU is now a rental or free agent next year: Burrell, Huff, Uribe, Guillen. Torres will reach his 1st yr. of arbitration … and turn 33.
14 original “quotes” (some, amazingly, without quotation marks) and now only 11 explanatory citations. No one’s gonna waste time proving that most of the 11 are wrong or deceptive. The jury’s entitled to decide that a purported expert is a liar and just ignore all his or her testimony from that point forward. Happens every day.
New membership drive at the Flat Earth Society?
No, just credibility problems at Jed’s homestead. Or do you prefer Chez Jed?
So FuckJediot’s new, revised critique of Sabean: he has adjusted as needs changed or arose.
Exactly! That’s the Flat Earth battlecry: Columbus must have been a genius to figure this out, because the earth is flat.
Sabean’s “adjustment” is a credit to ownership and labor markets: you’ll be fired next year if we a 5th losing season in 6 years (41-40 on July 4). Not a “changed need” or unfortunate circumstance.
Jed, your arguments are so odd and poorly-formed that it’s hard to even pin down what you’re arguing about. I think the gist of it is that when Sabean makes bad moves, that shit’s on Sabean because he’s a dumbfuck. When Sabean makes good moves, that’s a credit to ownership because Sabean’s a dumbfuck.
Right?
Basically, every move in baseball since the advent of Sabean supports your position because your position is that no matter what happens, good or bad, it’s evidence that Sabean’s a dumbfuck. This is how I view your position and – I think – how most others here do, too. Can you understand why most of us would rather just shout you down? Contrary arguments carry no validity in your mind so it’s more satisfying to just insult you.
I don’t know where you get your information, but I don’t like it.
Seems the trend these days is to pay off a large chunk of a bad contract and just save whatever little you can. Straight up swapping of bad contracts rarely happens. Too bad, Giants and Cubs could do so much business with guys like Rowand, DeRosa, A. Ramirez, Zambrano, etc….
A GM who appears like he might not get the difference between gambling on players like Huff and Burrell on the one hand, and Franchez, Guillen, and Rowand on the other, could reasonably be accused of perhaps being a a bit luckier than he deserves to be.
Jed…This blog is for G fans, whos 1st concern is the team winning… Gripes are allowed because it’s part of the process, but your attitude to constantly knock, or belittle management even when things are going well sucks. It sure doesn’t feel like you “root” for them to be doing so.
Yeah, you’re a “good’ fan. Larry loves good fans. They enjoy winning, don’t really care about losing. Good fans are very profitable for Larry.
Uh…they’re not losing, jeddy….
I CAN be called a fan….YOU, not so much.
Since everybody the Giants currently have on the roster is a Sabean draft or acquisition and thay have a record of 66-50, the presumption from JedFuckmoron can only be that Sabean is an idiot because they aren’t, say, 75-41.. this is the same old dumbfuck doomer argument dressed up in designer innuendo and misinformation: the argument that all the non-performers are bad signings and all the good ones: lucky. Fact is, any and every GM is graded on his team’s performance AS A GROUP. By that standard, while there are quibbles as I have with Guillen, Sabean has had two excellent years.
Well, now you stepped in your bullshit. But I’m glad to see you finally make Sabean accountable for the worst four-year stretch in SF history.
“The Cubs traded Fontenot’s college teammate, Theriot, and pitcher Ted Lilly to the Los Angeles Dodgers with less than two hours before the July 31 deadline. After that deal was done, they came close to trading Fontenot and outfielder Xavier Nady [.230 ba, .653 ops] to the Giants but ran out of time. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry and Giants general manager Brian Sabean got this part of the deal done today while in Minneapolis together for owners meetings.” Dare to dream.
http://blogs.suntimes.com/cubs/2010/08/cubs_trade_fontenot_to_giants.html
“Half the starting LU is now a rental or free agent next year: Burrell, Huff, Uribe, Guillen. Torres will reach his 1st yr. of arbitration … and turn 33.”
And what are the Giants paying for these guys??? Next to nothing. That’s good GM work in my book.
Like I said yestdrday, there should be no Sabean bashing the rest of the way out. Of course the Rent and Rowand signings sucked, but they aren’t being played anymore and what he’s gotten from others for much less is fantastic.
Sure, if there’s no Sabean propaganda either. Deal?
So now JedWad says Sabean IS doing a good job.. because Neukom threatened him with dismissal if he didn’t step it up… Really, stop now, Jedmoron. It gets worse everytime you post.
Yio know, the fans here don’t give a rat fuck if Sabean was “lucky” with Lincecum, Cain, Sandoval, Huff, Torres, Uribe, Dirty, Wilson, Posey, Bumgarner… and braindead with Rent, Rowand, WHOFUCKINGEVER… what we do give a shit about is a second exciting summer of baseball after several out of contention. If you can’t get on board with that, get your sorry ass out. leave us alone.
Funny. This year is going so well, I almost forgot how fun *last* year was.
Totally. This season has kicked ass so far.
BTW, I don’t care who you are or how much you post here: in a few hours they’re starting one of the biggest series in several years. They’ve been the best team in the game for weeks, we’re enjoying the fuck out of it. This is NO time for your Sabean or Bochy or “Rentardia” bashing. Enjoy or get fucking GONE.
I’ll go as far to say, it’s “fans” like Jediot, that put out the vibes responsible for no WS titles since they’re in SF. I truly believe it. Like the guys who were watching 5/0 in the 7th inning, saying ” How are we gonna blow it now”?….That’s how.
At least he’s stimulating some healthy debate…
Yeah, and a crack head staggering down the middle lane of a freeway helps everyone in traffic test their shocks and brakes.
I like the Guillen move. He’s better than Schierholtz and will solidify the line-up.
All this talk about clubhouse cancer is bullshit. Unless you were in the room you don’t know the circumstances. People often get a reputation and can’t shake it. Look at Huff. Supposedly the dude could not play the field for shit but he’s been more than adequate at multiple positions.
I think Sabean under rates chemistry but he has blindly stumbled into a group of guys that have a history together and pull for each other. Huff, Burrell, Rowand Uribe and now Guillen have all played together at one time or another. If Guillen doesn’t keep it in check i’m sure they’ll have a word. Like the guys listed he is playing for his baseball life. If he can get into the PS and help this club his future brightens. If not he’s going to be begging for work or have none at all. He knows the deal. All he has to do is keep his head down, mouth shut and produce.
I forgot to mention Fontenot who played college ball with Wilson.
Nah, he still stinks. Here’s the scorecard:
Wellemeyer over Bum
Bengie over Posey
DeRosa coming off .212 second half and injury
Wanted LaRoche for Rent money, forced to “settle” for Huff
Extended Sanchez (per the grand plan, quoted above)
Rowand, Nate, Velez, Bowker playing ahead of Torres (but Brian foresaw .900 ops)
Burrell as PH … signs here if he didn’t grow up in SJ?
Zito is Peter’s fault … Zito’s my guy
It would be unfair to criticize Brian for Pablo’s slump or Tim’s inconsistency, though I guess we should in your view. Okay, it’s his fault.
You could perform the same negative exercise for every last GM in the league. Plenty of people have said it before: you’re not completely wrong in your assessment, it’s the droning monotony of the repetition of the same one-sided message that grates on everybody.
–Wellemeyer over Bum
bullshit. Bum had a bad ST and gradually worked up to his shot.
–Bengie over Posey
bullshit, Benji did a decent job holding the position until it was obvious Posey was ready, behind the plate as well as at the plate. Most of us wanted Posey out of ST, but no one in the front office back in the winter, when Benji became available again, could’ve been sure Posey would prove himself in ST. Bottom line: Posey got here in time.
–DeRosa coming off .212 second half and injury
The injury signings piss us all off a bit. If you think it’s 100% Sabean’s fault, then you’re just the kind of patient an incompetent MD is looking for.
–Wanted LaRoche for Rent money, forced to “settle” for Huff
This is a reductive, small-minded version of a rumor. You don’t know how the overlapping talks behind the scenes played out. Fact is, Huff came here pencilled into the middle of the line up. How has that worked out?
–Extended Sanchez (per the grand plan, quoted above)
I’m a fan of the runt. Fuck you.
–Rowand, Nate, Velez, Bowker playing ahead of Torres (but Brian foresaw .900 ops)
Bochy and the coaching staff makes those decisions.
–Burrell as PH … signs here if he didn’t grow up in SJ?
You think where Burrell went to High School determined this move? Yeah, Sabean had nothing to do with it. This contention of yours, Jed, is the most idiotic thing on the list.
–Zito is Peter’s fault … Zito’s my guy
Sorry. My bad. THIS contention of yours is the most idiotic thing on the list.
So you’re 1 for 8, Jed, and that one (DeRosa) was a bloop my grandmother could’ve hit.
It would be unfair to criticize Brian for Pablo’s slump or Tim’s inconsistency, though I guess we should in your view.
—————————-
Who’s view is that?
Do all the drafts and signings and trades-or none at all. Get on it, Jedfuck.
I’m still waiting for Jed the Liar to pull up quotes he claims were mine.
Shit… I’m waiting for the sun to shine.
Settle down, cabbie
The non-partisan and respected FanGraphs rates value and performance, among many other things. Most of you know of it, great website. I’ve rounded DOWN, Giants are getting 125 million in performance this year, well over actual payroll. That takes hitting, defense, and pithing into account. I did a breakdown on some of it earlier this year.
The all important “pithing”…. Pitching..
better that then pissing.
Would anyone care to see tonight’s lineup for a change of pace?
Torres RF, F Sanchez 2B, Huff 1B, Posey C, Burrell LF, Sandoval 3B, Uribe SS, Rowand CF, J Sanchez P.
TF got his wish of Rowand. He better produce or be prepared to face the wrath of the equine one.
Ah, theres Posey. Sorry Krukow got you all bent out of shape this morning Dennis.
Yeah, sometimes Kruk can throw a real curve ball into things. Too bad he didn’t have that kind of breaker when he was pitching. 😉
FFIW, Mychael Urban’s friend?, or some such is Guillen’s agent and the word is that Jose was promised AT LEAST 4 starts /wk in RF. Maybe even more depending on the circumstance.
If you’re not on the Jose Train now, better hop on board. The guy’s gonna play. Now all we need is a nickname for him. Everybody gets a name playing for our Giants. Any suggestions?
Hangnail. Pliers. Wingnut. Screwloose.
And if you think Mychael Urban has friends, then you’re probably gullible enough to believe what an agent says.
No Whitey?
Let me fix that for you, Dennis:
– Torres RF (Sabean hates him but can’t trade him because he’s a fan favorite)
– F Sanchez 2B (totally sucks. so does Sabean)
– Huff 1B (pure blind luck signing. wouldn’t be needed if Sabean had just signed Dunn two years ago)
– Posey C (Sabean should have brought him up sooner, thus his performance this year is 100% negated by the delay)
– Burrell LF (Ownership must have pushed for him. If he ever starts sucking like I expect, that’s Sabean’s fault)
– Sandoval 3B (totally sucks. Sabean should have traded him for a high A player already)
– Uribe SS (Ownership must have wanted him)
– Rowand CF (totally sucks. so does Sabean)
– J Sanchez P (inconsistent piece of crap. his bad games are Sabean’s fault. his good games are due to Righetti)
On August 12 last year, SF was 1 GB from the WC. NL teams have a longer playoff drought than SF: Pirates, Nats, Reds. Congrats, Brian and Larry. Give yourselves another raise. Dripping with positivity.
Giants BP. Enjoy, gentlemen. (what Ted says)
http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?topic_id=6350584
thanks
I can’t watch it at work but thanks anyway dennis
Thanks Dennis. I just scored 4 field club with a parking pass. So stoked right now.
“Now all we need is a nickname for him. Everybody gets a name playing for our Giants. Any suggestions?”
“SWEEP!! THE PODS JUST HAD AN UNFORTUNATE RUN-IN WITH THE GUILL-OTINE!!”
Jed is the same tool from the splash who bet me that the Giants would not win more than 80 games last year and if they did he would never post their again… All he does is root for the Giants to lose so that his man crush Sabean can finally be free to spend more time with him….. The majority of his posts come when the Giants lose a game or when someone is underperforming…. We get it Jed you are a loser who likes to wallow in the losing…. Go back to the Splash…. Its were you belong….
What a toddler. Decap, no one heard boo from you when SF was 41-40 on July 4. Go back to nursing from Bengie’s orbs and suck your binky until you fall back asleep.
WTF does that have to do with you openly rooting for the Giants to have a losing season? You are still a tool who lost a bet and welched on it two months after the season… You’re the one that needs to grow up…
If Guillen gets hot and starts mashing we will all forget about him being a clubhouse cancer and poor ops…. If he doesn’t fuck him, leave him on the bench or DFA… nothing lost…
Also on the topics of labels following you around, anyone remember going in to the season “how bad a defender Huff is”…… I don’t think its been mentioned again since the first month….
The Padres are a far more loathsome team than the current Dodgers. They are the closest thing to the *60s* Dodgers that anyone’s seen in a while.
Going to the bar with a bunch of “Padres” fans tonight…. Sanchez better make me look good….
Huff has talked in interviews about how he worked on his D, and his conditioning, to get ready for this NL season. He has been 100% better than I expected. helluva player.
Following up on my question from yesterday, to which I didn’t see any responses.
I have no idea whether the Giants and Padres are better right now. That’s why I asked.
The Giants roster appears to be much stronger, and if Sandoval, Burrell, Sanchez, et al are going to perform to past numbers, then it’s overwhelmingly so. The mostly no-name Padre staff has outperformed the Giants’, but some of them have had a rough couple of weeks.
So that’s why I was curious about any insights here. It’s all academic just hours before the game, of course. And this series will settle nothing … seven more showdowns after this one. A couple things for sure: The Padres shouldn’t be able to run as much with Posey in thegame, and Eckstein will not win a game against Affeldt.
It’s difficult to answer that question because for all intents and purposes, the Padres simply shouldn’t be this good. The Giants looked to be a better team even before the season began but somehow SD has overachieved. Consistently. But to answer your question, man to man, position to position, the Giants are better now. but, they were before as well.
Ted, aren’t the 2010 Pads simply the 2009 Giants? Despite leading MLB in runs in July, the Giants are scoring the same runs per game as Pads.
I’m hoping they’re the Giants of 2009. A good team falling just short
Stats-wise, they are quite similar teams. The Giants have slightly better hitting, thanks to that July run, but the Padres have had better pitching so far this year and a shutdown pen. I believe the Giants hold the edge in the stretch run primarily due to experience in the starting rotation.
The Padres are a far more loathsome team than the current Dodgers. They are the closest thing to the *60s* Dodgers that anyone’s seen in a while.
I don’t know about more loathsome but I really hate watching the Giants lose to this current Padres team. It sucked so much during those first 7 losses to see .212 hitter after .220 hitter come up and knock hits against Giants pitching while their no-name starters would absolutely baffle Giants hitters. At least they’ve had a similar – but not quite as dominant – mystical type of power over everybody they’ve played. I sure hope that shit ends tonight.
Ok, that was over the top, given the yard they play in. But I was also responding to the lack of decent position players. I really hate losing to teams like this.
I don’t know. Sure I want the Giants to beat the shit out of the Padres but…more loathsome then the Dodgers? I’m just not feeling that
They really do find a way to keep winning with this scrappy, underpaid crew of youngsters. I don’t know how they do it…some kind of mojo or something.
4 or 5 games a wk. “We didn’t acquire him to sit on the bench.” –Bochy. Read more from Baggs:
http://tinyurl.com/2al6tyl
from Upstate NY: Gooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Gigantes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh look it’s the former Dodger closer.
http://harveycomics.50webs.com/huey.htm
So what brought you out of your hole, Jed? Your sudden profligacy is suspicious…
All: To straighten something out though, for the record: Huff’s poor defense was not a fucking rumor. He had been awful in the OF, below average at 1B. Even in ST this year he was poor. That was no false accusation. For whatever reason, and who the fuck cares what it is, he’s been better than he had been.
My first time here on the flap….I had to get away from the Splash. It’s become a total doomer party over there. Ridiculous. Dirty is going to have his work out for him tonight if he’s going want to back his words up. I hope he can do it. Padres are overrated but still tough. Good luck, Giants.
Shaman – you do a very good Soph imitation. Can we get a sniff from you?
Cheers dude
To correct Dennis from an earlier post, Rowand playing is not my “wish”. I *explained* why he would be in there.
My Bucket List LU does not have Aaron Motherfucking Rowand in it, thank you…
Shaman: I gave up on the Splash as well. I don’t even look at it anymore.
So, you, like myself would rather see Ish tonight than Rowand. So why is it that I catch crap for LU bashing, while you, who wants the same lineup as I, skates free? That shit don’t add up. Bochy’s wrong for playing Rowand and you know it.
Let Ishi play!
Well, Schulman says Bochy says Guillen will play 4 or 5 games per week in RF. Schulman also says Guillen apparently only gets surly when he doesn’t play, or win. So, if he does start a bunch, let’s hope he plays well. I guess, given the price, they can just send him away if he doesn’t.
Anyway, no Guillen issues tonight (unless Burriss gets demoted while Guillen’s en route to SF). Tonight’s first inning is all about Jonathan. Man, what a weekend ahead.
Shaman: Welcome aboard. Splash still has a handful of decent posters, but they are a bit overwhelmed by the gloomers, the doomers, the doofusses and the dipshitz. You’ve probably been lurking around the Flap much like i did before deciding to post here on a regular basis. It’s been rewarding in more ways than one. Generally the attitudes are pretty positive and the baseball smarts are broadly shared. Enjoy.
Well, the Pads certainly have hung in longer than I anticipated. The mystery trade at the deadline has to be Ludwick. I don’t think anyone knows what two prospects they gave up. All credit to the Padres front office for that one.. like Flavor and others, I still think it gets down to their young starters, don’t see them holding up through September…
Giants win the division by 5…
How fired up am I for this series, and this game in particular?
I’ve watched the “Patton Speech” three times today. “We’re gonna go through them, like crap through a goose!”
Humm Baby!
Den – you are doing much better than me. I’m watching MASH with the black tab, and Spear Chucking Jones (from the Niners).
Dennis is hoping Dirty Namath backs up his smack.
Go Dirrrrty!!
Hey, TF. It wasn’t dear old Clubber, but somebody else on the Splash thought we had acquired Ozzie Guillen.
You know that crowd too well.
They are “special”.
TF, thx for kind words. My laptop is unwell, to the point i have to physically hold onto a top corner with a grip resembling a circle change..otherwise i get vertical lines or a mushroom cloud only garcia;s follower’s could dig. Guess I am a “loopy”–lefty one out pitch poster.
I doubt Guillen gets much PT vs. non lefties., and Ishi will alwys be there for D. Why break up Burrell Torres Huff? Just nother option, late inning bat. Hope he enjoys summer in SF. October too.
Gentleman ? (sorry Ted), start your engines.
Don’t be sorry, Bozo. Ted loves the references. It’s a compliment. (question mark)
Beat SD!!
We’re gonna sweep the Friars!
Eat shit Hairston, what a fucking bonehead running play.I Love it!
0-2, 0-2 1-2 and 0-2 counts on the SD hitters in the first inning. “A strike throwing machine,” indeed.
Sit the fuck down. How ’bout that, an empty frame in the first for the opposition.
I was getting sick and tired of th Cubs scoring in the first all the time.
Get th lead and never look back. Dirty looks determined and focused. He’s gonna back his shit up.
Yeah nice 1st inning statement overall throwing strikes 2 K’s.Nobody comes into our house on Freaky Orange Friday Night and beat us! Keep smoking strikes in there Dirty.
Yungo!
AH
That play right there should be the poster child for why Aaron Rowand should never bat lea doff again.
His stoopid ass would still be standing at first base.
The little runt is a POS.
Huff delivers! We got the lead, never look back.
Huff Daddy!!! Smokes another one, nice piece of hitting.
FU, Dennis. The runt hit a liner. Krukow (as is his wont once in a while) intelligently warned us that Richard is exceptionally athletic. Without a great play by Richard, the runt had a rbi.
Hairston let that one fall to avoid a tag-up run. Smart guy.
Counselor, the little runt is a piece of shit. Right back at’cha. FU.
At least Krukow argues intelligently once in a while. Take heed, horse head.
Take it..
Is it just me, or do the Giants look like they mean fucking business. Focused, determined, playing with a single goddamn purpose—win at all cost. They ain’t losing, guys. They ain’t losing.
NEVER LOOK BACK
A tribute to Torres does not require a condemnation of Rowand. There aren’t 5 guys in baseball who take second on that, not just Rowand…
I thought that too at first too Xoot.Which would have been a smart play by Hairston. But after rewinding my Dvr the ball was in the stands.Funny they never showed a replay.
I know it was in the stands, but I thought it was reachable. No dvr here, however.
Turning two
Maybe not.
Sanchez as we all know can look like Koufax for 5 innings, then go to hell in a hand basket.
Fuck.
on a tee
Crap!
great shut down inning…not
ok, little help here. Kostaz003 at Justin.tv has no stream. Alternatives?
Here’s audio Pawlie..

Padres means business as well
SOB. Sure glad Bochy decided to play Rowand. Jesus H. Christ. Was he inspecting the grass for weeds? Roundup or Scotts-Ortho should do the trick.
Ain’t no thing, ain’t no thing. Tie game my friends, let’s get these fucks.
Please, Bochy. H&R here w/ Rowand. No DPs please.
