Buzzkill game
So maybe the guarantee game needs to come from someone a little, I dunno, maybe….better? It worked for Namath but not too many other guys over the last 40+ years. Dirrrrrrty pitched how he usually pitches and we left 11 men on base. So much for shit-talkin’…..guillen starting will take the focus off the “sweep talk” and that’s a good thing. Dude mashes, when he makes contact. He’s not a “pie in the face guy” so don’t try that on him. He’s going to be a great stretch run addition…..
And I did this thread from my phone— not too easy. I’ll change potg and potd when I get home in the pm
Hence the relative brevity.
Bravo, lad
Did the sun come up this morning?
Looked out the window and felt like the guy in The ROAD. Awfully bleak and wet. Stumbled downstairs to find the dog pawing what remained of the TV.
Fuck it. I wanted a flat front one anyway.
Gotta stay positive, but today is a formidable challenge. A lot to ask of a 20 yr rookie facing a guy who has been lights on against the G’s. Maybe Latos will have an off day. They got to Johnson and Jimenez, so who knows? Yeah, and Dennis will hit the Pick 6.
Helluva game despite the outcome. This is what’s all about, right? Sure.
Remind me of that when we’re 5 back.
Hope Sanchez learned to keep his mouth shut. Jesus, as if he didn’t have enough pressure on him. The game was huge already. Stupid.
But that’s not why they lost.
Little things hurt them. And they missed a great opportunity in the first to get to Richard. He was struggling badly with his location and we had GOD up with a run in and runners on the corners in the first. His meek grounder gave me a bad feeling.
Huff just missed. I went to bed dreaming he hit the water and they won 4-3.
I’m off to buy a new screen.
Last night was a well pitched game by both teams, even up after 2, only one run scored after that. Other than AGon, I don’t see anything Pads have better than us. Pitching and D, same old same old.
With or without medication, hope you feel better after today, Dennis.
First time around, new P usually has the ad. Summer here in south bay has not been near as hot as usual, and we know what summer in Sf is like anyway, so ball shouldn’t be flying out the yard much this weekend either.
Sitting in a coffee shop in Reno, just had Katie fill out our keno card. Bad dad. All these bad feelings go away with a win today. And we might as well do it against latos. Gonna book home to hopefully make the start of the gm
Stuck in Reno? What did you do to deserve that?
Tough loss. Hard to believe when you see the parade of .250 hitteres that SD runs out there. Rowand’s stumble in the field was forgivable but the baserunning blunder was a killler. It really felt like SF beat themselves last night as opposed to SD running over them. That’s how SD has been getting done though so I guess that game followed their blue priint to a T.
Time to turn the page. Salvage two wins and The Giants have gained ground.
Go Giants!
Flav, don’t feel bad. What is really important is that she pick winners.
Anyone surprised at Bochy’s quick hook last night? That’s the second time in a row he’s done that to Sanchez. Last one in ATL a little more understandable given weather conditions maybe, but….last night he had made two good pitches with RISP to get two ground balls not hit very hard, and bottom of the order 7-8 guys were due up. 92 pitches and only two BBs up to that point in 6th. Hmmmm.
They should bring the fences in CF. I don’t like that stupidly deep OF that robs our guys of some HRS. They’re stuck with the RF wall but changing CF is easily doable.
I like the park configuration and would not like seeing CF moved in. The triple is an exciting play and that deep CF/RF alley lends itself to them. Huff knocked the hell out of that ball last night but that’s how it goes in this yard.
Bochy will use the quick hook all weekend, even Sunday.
Suddenly Bochy’s the stage manager of the Apollo Theatre?
yeah, it’s a metonymic analogy, a whory cliche (accent), suggesting a rather ruthless and dramatic tactical decision played out in front of an audience. Cut throat would be overkill, if you need more cliches to get the point.
I had to look up “metonymic.” Goddamn Dictionary.com must have forgot me that day.
The triple is an exciting play, no question but not at the expense of HRS! And a lot of times the player is left stranded at third.
Did you guys catch the Orioles unis last night? Orange pants to go along with orange tops. Result: A 3-hit, 5-0 shut win of the Rays. On the road nonetheless. Next Orange Friday I’ll be expecting and demanding for orange pants. Whatever works.
Who has had the best success vs Mat Latos? You guessed it, Whitey. 3-7 with a double and RBI. Look for Vern and Vera front row behind the dugout. And who the hell spells their name “Mat?” I hadn’t realize that until just now that he’s missing a ‘T’ at the end of his first name. That pisses off. I don’t appreciate it when people try to get cute and fancy. Screw that! Put another goddamn ‘T’ on your name like the rest of the “Matt’s” and get back in line. Shitkicker.
I’m assuming Guillen will be in today’s lineup, no? Haven’t heard anything definite. He could be an adventure out in RF. I hope there won’t be any Fred Lew references for today’s game.
I know others don’t like to use the term, but today is a “must win.” Win the damn game.
Nothing against orange pants except they’re a bit much, but I prefer Sabean’s approach of grabbing some vets for the stretch drive.
A must win? Hardly. Dennis you get so melodramatic. You should be a screenwriter for films. A good sports movie would be nice.
You’re not gonna believe this Nipper, but I have written a few screenplays. I don’t think they ever made it past the secretary’s trash can, but I gave it a shot. It was awhile back, pre-super technology. Pen, paper and typewriter. I found out the hard way why there’s only one Mel Brooks. I didn’t go the sports route, maybe that’s still a future option. But I doubt it. I too busy trying to help the Giants figure out a way to beat the Padres. If we end up going 1-17 vs them this year, I’ll let others write about that. They can put it in my obituary.
Where’s Jose?
Torres CF, Fontenot 2B, Huff RF, Burrell LF, Posey C, Sandoval 3B, Uribe SS, Ishikawa 1B, Bumgarner P
Probably not a good idea to piss that dude off on day 1. Katie sucks at keno. Hittin the road now
Seriously, we trade for the guy, he’s “going to play 4 or 5 times a week,” where the hell is he?
I’m pretty damn sure he arrived late last night, so if he’s here, play the mofo. Why the hell didn’t Bochy write his name in on today’s card? He better not be hurt. Jesus, I’m already pissed, again.
Easy Dennis, easy boy! Down boy! Here’s some oats. Go easy fella.
From Baggs Tweet: Jose Guillen will make his debut start in RF tomorrow, Bruce Bochy said. He’s available off the bench.
Sweet. Keep Jose on the bench so he’ll have time to endear himself to his new teammates. Super Genius.
Dennis have confidence in Bochy. He’s been doing this for a long time.
Once again the Giants come up one run short of the Padres.Let’s see who were the goats in this disgrace of a game…Well there’s Johnny, who gift wrapped two runs for the Padres in the top of the second, about 10 seconds after the Giants ignited the crowd and took a 2 run lead in the bottom of the 1st.Oh and the failing to get down a bunt with runners on 1st and 2nd no outs, that was real nice work.
Bochy allowing Fruckie Mole Runt Franchez to continue his season-long effort to kill the team.
Brain-Dead Rowand, for inexplicably running off second base right after Sanchez fucked up his bunt attempt, getting picked off and essentially ending a 1st and 2nd,no out situation in 3 fucking seconds. That is a buzz kill of a game.Fuck the Padres!
Tough task for MadBum today against Latos..But we’ll need his best effort, and some timely hits and runs early off Latos,so we don’t have to run into their tough BP trailing after 6.
I guess one can get angry with SD but it will not help matters at all. They’re effective at what they do, winning close games with pitching and good execution in the field. The Giants have to start hitting SD pitching. Perhaps today is the day.
I remember reading a Baggs story when Sanchez threw the 1-hiiter vs. the Pads earlier this year and lost, and how he failed to get a bunt down in that game. It seems that’s the kind of thing the Padres constantly execute and we don’t. Every “little” mistake against that team is a killer.
Fergeddabout last night. They have. Onus is off for the sweep, now we get to see what Madison is made of, he’s due for a big effort. Two of three will be just fine. And I’m glad to see he’s making room for Travis against a RHer, he can’t just forget about the guy even with Guillen on board.
With all the absurd talk about Dirty ( even before his guarantee), he hasn’t been all that less effective than our #1. Lincecum needs to be big down the stretch, and Cain as well. They are the guys, our Koufax/Drysdale. Those two pitch like studs, we win this.
Denny: Will you be sending it in on “Stay Thirsty” in the 8th at Saratoga today?
Nice and chalky the way you like ’em.
How could I miss it, Loo? With the scratch of the 10, Thirsty is now the only colt with any experience. Sired by Bernardini to boot. As well as is the 9 for that matter. The 6 is a blue blood. I’m thinking no way in hell does the 11 go off at 8/5, so it’s time to key. 11/6,9/6,9 tri and I started my rosary 10 minutes ago.
Lincecum finally gets his first shot at the Padres tomorrow, maybe that’s what they’ve been missing against this damn team.
Atmosphere was unreal last night. The crowd was going absolutely ape-shit in the second inning but boy did it end up getting very quiet. The stage was set for some late inning magic but not this time. Never been to a playoff game but I can imagine it would be feeling pretty close to last night’s. I’m relegated to the sofa today. Voice is completely shot and I’m suffering a miserable hangover. Going to the punk rock show in Chinatown after the game was not a good idea – but it did help to forget about the game.
That shot from Huff was one Dunn hit a few times. Looked, sounded like a mammoth huge gargantuan…. out. I never thought for a second it was going out, not there.
He never gambles, because that would be unfair to the rest of the world.
One last comment about last night’s game; I had to read the box score and not watch it live. Seemed close and it could have gone either way (question mark).
But they had a lot more chances than us.
SD was 1 for 11 on RISP while SF was 2 – 5
Both teams had DP, CS, BB, WP and SD had 6 hits to SF 7
Today is a new game
go Giants
What’s this shit. I get ready to turn the game on, ON THE TV and back East we’re going to get the Cubs and Cards. What the fuck, Cubs fans don’t even care about them anymore. Why doesn’t Fox just show us the Heidi movie.
MLB.com will be blacked because of that poor excuse of a TV station, FUCK FOX.
Bozo..You’ll just have to tuff it out here…
http://www.justin.tv/kostaz003#/w/316742240
Thanks ws – I’m on it now.
Racehorses make bets on him.
Giants will shoot themselves in the foot again today … Let’s hope the padres shoot themselves in the head before that
Just watched the game from last night and that HBP for dirrrty in the second HURT.
LOVED that caught stealing by Posey, can’t remember the last time I saw a catcher running to second just like the book says. Cool. The third SD run was almost destiny the way the plays played out.
Apparently the SD SPs are having a ‘Huff like’ year so far. bastards
I am listening to the pre-game on KNBR, but the game is on ESPN HD tonight!
go giants!
Some of those Padre boys were altogether too fucking happy last night. Richard was acting like he was at a party. I’m not one who advocates hitting guys but a little tap dancing wouldn’t be out of line. These guys need some old fashioned religion, maybe Travis can give ’em some.
I would peg gonzo to send a message
“When he works in company, it is always with a filly and always after the renovation break.”
“Clockers never need a stopwatch, only a •”
Who are the first-round SuperCuts-model rejects on the mike for this game? I guess Chris Rose is one, which makes me want to send in an audition tape. The other?
Beat these goddamn sum’ bitches today. I’m sick and tired of losing to these bastards.
As I type this, lead off single. *Sigh*
Needless to say … if they’d stop giving away runs, they’d have a lot better chance, eh? Hard to believe this Padre lineup, but this team needs to realize the game is over in the 6th if they’re behind. So … better make something happen. Seems to me this Padre defense is no great shakes, so put them to the test?
Hey Denny, I just sent u an email
a pitch away from escaping, and 1 from disaster…
26 pitches not the start we needed,Lucky they only got the 1 run.Damm i’m sick of this team.
I like Fox’s Keys to the Game, For Latos: “Control his gas”. Well, lets hope he had one of those giant Brats before the game.
…alright Fontenot getting the career as a giant off to a good start.
Way to rake a double Fontenot. Now lets get you in.
The new runt
Arrrghhhh….3=4 hitters have to do better than that.
Stay Thirsty 11/1,6,9/1,6,9/1,6,9 my friends.
Result: 11/3/8/5 “Missed it, but that much.” I’m the biggest boob this side of Carol Dota.
The $3.40 is looking like a goddamn gift. All I can do is laugh to keep myself fro going totally insane. As they say, “Better luck next time.”
Damm Uribe just missed that one from going out.Latos is just filthy with his stuff and control every pitch 0-1 it seems.Hope the Giants don’t turn” Latos Intolerant” today off him.
Latos looks a machine OR the ump has that good pitcher gets a wider zone thing going on.
Giants look a bit bewildered, but not by the pitcher, so is it the Pads in their heads?
Yungo enthusiasm
That’s the kind of hustle that wins games….Way to wheel Torres!!!!!!!
damn, it is hard to drill down with my bookie to get a bet on @ Sarasota
Ump’s foot cost us a run
that and an un hittable pitch, damn!
What’s more likely to work … stealing home or trying to hit that curveball?
Agree Max that sucked.
Anyone else have the urge to hit “Mat I’m special because I only have one ‘T’ in my name” Latos with a 2×4?
actually, if it would win us this game . . .
But 4 me he be a talent and I gotta love that no matter where he plays
You know Den, it just might be time to make this guy our door Mat.
looks like I gotta recall my ‘umpire has a wide strike zone’ comment; he just gave madison the same call
Well, Im convinced Hundley can handle the inside fastball, you?
Not finding these fux on Fox fun.
Edddd, how are you watching this? Justin. tv?
for once this season it is on espn hd here, woo hoo
sofa, cocktail and hd tv goodness
the wife hates sports, the kid is asleep
I am in my man cave
anyone know about a ticket package that will include a shot at playoff seats>?
i am in a mood to buy and fly, especially 4 da WS
go giants
HAHA!
I was about to say: ‘Look! They found a Krukow look alike
me too
The surfer-cum-accountant-GOP-banker-suburban-geochemist look and feel of the Padres revolts me. Don Draper / Dick Whitman, 46 years later.
it’s the GeoChemist part that gets me. (windows syntax)
sweet pitch madison, fly out
ground cannot cause an error
fuck, the pads could improve their record by moving to att
they are blessed here
Seriously … why are they blessed? Unless you mean the Giants are giving them a lot. The Giants have given them most of their runs, and today, the Giants can’t retire a washed up Tejada. It’s hard to hate the Pads for taking what they are given.
Jesus. Great effort by Torres, and the ball slips out. Gonzo goes oppo and lands it just fair.
Let’s face it guys, whatever the fuck it is, they have our number. What the hell we gonna do? Maybe pull a Brandon Phillips and hope for the desired effect that his Reds didn’t get.
C’mon, Ish. We need a bomb.
let that be the break to get us goin
