A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Our “Average” Ace…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 28, 2010

Tim Lincecum Whip: 1.35

League Average: 1.35

Wow, that’s a frighteningly quick fall from the top we’ve seen from Timmy. And he’s just kinda felt average this year, hasn’t he? Another loss against another #3. Most of us knew going in that Enright didn’t do anything spectacular with the ball but we still couldn’t do anything with him. That goes back to the theory I floated out there a couple of weeks ago: the team loses their collective focus when Tim pitches. I compared it to the Zito starts during his first year with us. Disagree with the theory if you must but try to use a valid argument instead of “No, that’s not it”.  When Zito was sucking and everyone was wondering what was wrong the team would take the field tight and everyone’s eyes were glued to the radar gun. Same thing is happening with Timmy. When the focus is on something other than your job (hitting) AND you aren’t playing loose, bad things are going to happen to your offensive production. Let’s look at the number of runs scored in Tim’s last 5 starts (all losses):  0,0,2, 2,2.  Remember, those are the runs we have scored in those games WHEN HE’S BEEN IN THE GAME. In some cases, like the Cubs loss, we scored some runs after he was chased…..

And that’s my main point. Scoring 6 runs in 5 games for the guy is ludicrous. But when their are questions about your effectiveness, when no one seems to have the answers and there’s 8 guys standing out there hoping, waiting, PRAYING that the “old Timmy” will show back up, I am telling you, that’s a misplaced focus and THAT’S the reason our offense has sucked so bad the last 5 games that he’s pitched…..

His 7.82 ERA/ 1.82 WHIP/ and .311 batting average against him in August didn’t help much either…….

Can we win the WC with a 3 man rotation?

I didn’t get around to asking the question beforehand, so this might sound like a little second guessing, but I really was going to ask it. Why is Guillen playing over Ross? His drop aside, the guy can’t run. Hell, he can’t even jog. Calling him a defensive liability is an understatement.

Can’t blame Bochy because the POS dropped the fly, but we can blame him for writing his name in the lineup card.

And we can blame Sabean for acquiring ANOTHER injured player. Must be a disease.

Guillen was swinging the bat well, but once I saw him running in right a couple of games ago, I thought his ass would be sitting (especially after Ross played well for him on Tuesday), and Ross has yet to start again.

I know Twin we are just bitching, but it is non-sensical to watch a one-legged right-fielder playing the most challenging right field in probably all of baseball and Bochy is going with him???

I cant say a little redemption for the Gimp because he saved one run while he gave up two!!

Ross gave the Giants a little burst those first couple of games, but then he’s seen nothing but bench since then.

What are the groups thoughts on the idea of how one should manage at this moment in a season with what the Giants have done last night and so far tonight? (I am not saying anything critical of Bochy).

Do you call a team meeting before tomorrow’s game and read them the riot act? Do you go ape shit tonight on the team? Or my preferred Earl Weaver moment…

  13. giant head's avatar giant head said, on August 28, 2010 at 6:54 pm

One thing we have not seen out of Bochy, just a complete meltdown throwing second base into the stands gatoraide all over the dugout. I think that would send just the right message to a team that looks way too ambivalent…

I know it is only pre-season, but at least the fucking Niners are winning.

  28. giant head's avatar giant head said, on August 28, 2010 at 7:07 pm

which manager years ago went to argue a call with an ump and begins talking to the ump and says quietly, “I want you to throw me out of the game, but give me some time to yell.” So then he gos off for a minute hollering and raising up a storm and then you see the ump say to him, “Ok is that good, you ready?” then he tosses him.

I dont think it was Weaver, maybe Pinella?

I spend the last week there and god damn nearly every person I passed on the street was dressed-out in Raider gear. And yet no one ever goes to their games. There’s a disconnect there…….
I’m glad Krukow is gone this weekend. After I had to listen to him beat off to Zito’s “effort” in his relief appearance (and yes, Krukow covered the room in cum discussing that loss he took) I can only imagine the bullshit excuses he’d be coming up with tonight for this ant-small performance we are getting from this fuck……..

  41. TellItGoodbye's avatar TellItGoodbye said, on August 28, 2010 at 7:21 pm

OK, make it a 10-9 win 🙂 Again, Guillen should have been on the DL two days ago, another reliever should have been up and Zito should have been gone for a pinch hitter in the second. 6-1 in the second is still a game and if Travis pinch hits and lays down a double and three runs score, it is a 6-4 frickin game…
