A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Ugly Got Uglier…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 29, 2010

Not much to say about this weekend series– Zito was predictably awful. I can’t wait to hear the excuses from his boyfriend Michael Urban. In some ways this is his worst year in SF of all the four. He’s just unraveled at a time when the team needs him the most. That bomb he gave up to make it 9-1 was  a batting practice pitch…..

Every starter we have is pitching like shit right now… Giants are -230 to win today, the D-backs are +205. Jesus, if you were a guy who bets this game how can you realistically put money down on the Giants with that +205 hanging out there for the taking?

And I’m tired of this “Uh oh, we’re in a hole again” right off the bat in the first inning. The energy just gets sucked out of the team with every roped bomb. F-that, you’re in a hole, don’t freaking give up in the first inning! That’s what if feels like they’ve been doing lately. Power through it, persevere. This is the freaking DBACKS……

Can he start tomorrow vs the Rockies?

Rachel or Ten? How ’bout Rachel by ten. Many think she’s lost a step this year, but the numbers suggest otherwise. Last three BSF 108, 108 and 105. Thoro-Graph -1 1/4, -3 1/2 and -3 1/4 stack right up there with last years figures. I keep hearing that Life At Ten is the horse to beat. Rachel is getting the Dangerfield treatment for today’s Personal Ensign. Hell, Brad Free on the radio this morning all but said he was mortgaging the house and the kid’s college fund to get 5/2 (more like 8/5 off odds) on Life At Ten. Hope your kids enjoy going to the state school, Brad. I think Rachel wows’em again today.

    Rodrigo Lopez L3 starts: 14 1/3 IP 24H 15ER 5HR (ML high 32); career vs Giants 0-2 (6.75)
Cain has thrown 17 scoreless vs the D-backs this yr.
That -230 should be -2300 because if we don’t at least score a TD, kick the PAT and have Nedney boot one through the uprights from 45 yds. vs this sorry excuse for an MLB chump for a pitcher……Alex Smith will get blamed.

Dumb and Dumber metaphor for today’s game . . .

Lloyd: What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and a girl like me… ending up together?
Mary: Well, Lloyd, that’s difficult to say. I mean, we don’t really…
Lloyd: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
    Mary: Not good.
Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary: I’d say more like one out of a million.
    [pause]
    Lloyd: So you’re telling me there’s a chance… *YEAH!*

After Cain’s last start I suggested, half-seriously, that they should skip Zito’s turn and start Cain. But really, what reason is there to keep trotting out Zito if they don’t have to? The same scenario will play out next week, a day off prior to Cain’s next start at LA. This is crunch-time baseball, they need every damn win they can get, and a starter who can’t even throw 9 combined innings in 3 appearances last week, among his other horrid stats, is not the guy to trust.

Got to be kidding me on the lineup…I got to see what Twin thinks. This team’s lineup will not be the same without Posey.

If it is an arm strain then why not play him at first Huff in left and Ross in right? That’s right, I am not the manager so I obviously no shit..

Btw, I did not think about this last night, why did we start Zito after Wednesday’s relief appearance. With the off day Cain would have been on normal rest and Sanchez could have gone today.

This is real fucking simple: Zito ,as could be expected and as I told you , and Lincecum, unexpected; are why the team may not make the postseason. At least one of those two has to turn it around NOW.

And if Posey isn’t playing it’s because they don’t think he’s fit to play. Another example of ignorant second guessing,. You have ZERO evidence that he could play without risking more injury and zero standing to question the decision until you have that evidence. Some things are ABSOLUTELY beyond couch potato question. First person gives me the Bochy hates Buster bullshit gets his numbers changed.

Mychael Urban and Barry Zito decided it would be best to cancel their regularly scheduled “Unicorn Hour” for today because given the current circumstances, it would have been “bad radio.” Bad radio? Oh, I dunno. I’ve listened to the Titanic over the airwaves, sounded fine to me. The special effects of all the splash landings was particularly nice. 19. alleykat's avatar alleykat said, on August 29, 2010 at 12:15 pm

It really is all about the pathetic pitching staff right now.Over 23 games since Aug 4,Giant starters have a 3-13 (1.88) won-lost record,a 6.17 ERA,and a .302 opponent’s batting average. The winning pct and ERA are the poorest in the majors over that 25 day span.

  20. TedSpe's avatar TedSpe said, on August 29, 2010 at 12:25 pm

They shall win today. Cain’s been the only consistant SP on the team of late. He historically has some sort of weird bad luck in run support but almost always pitches well enough to win. Outstanding ERA.
    Book it

  21. EdGdsnInExile's avatar EdGdsnInExile said, on August 29, 2010 at 12:38 pm

I’m with Ted. Early on in the season, even while Tim was doing well, I felt Cain was the go-to, the one who would win to end a losing streak. Not flashy, but always in the game, and importantly for this squad, can right himself when he makes a mistake. I think he wins for us today.

As for Guillen, I think Boche must simply see it as Guillen is putting the bathead on the ball. Rowand and Schierholtz are not–though Nate has looked better lately. Given our offense, especially lately, it’s that simple. Sadly.

  22. Michael's avatar Michael said, on August 29, 2010 at 12:38 pm

In one way or the other it’s ALWAYS been about the pitching. Get with it. They were never ever in your wildest dreams going any motherfucking where without excellent pitching. The ERA needs to be under 4. Simple.

One of the reasons we’re all feeling the Giants lackluster performance so intensely is the missed opportunity: Phils have taken 2 from San Diego, and Nats just took 3 of 4 from St. Louis–beating Wainwright (who’s lost his last three decisions to Pitt, Milwaukee, and Nats…).

too true, but I will be rooting every game, my belief that we could have a .600 end of season run is still up to us – it’s just that the bats now have a heavy chore until the SPs settle in, ready for post season run.
