A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Zito’s Law

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 4, 2010

It seems like every time Zito pitches something stupid happens to us—like God hates the Giants when he pitches. Should Guillen have caught that ball?  OF COURSE that hit by Lady B goes to the ONE guy on the field who is least likely to make that catch. I’d guess that every outfielder on our team makes that catch…..

2 hits? This year we have exactly 2 earned runs scored of Billingsley through 29.2 innings he’s pitched against us. Pathetic….

You can’t blame the loss on one guy unless you believe God hates Barry Zito and I think that’s an inarguable fact at this point. “When he pitches, dumb shit  happens”. It’s Zito’s Law……..

The Padres continue to lose, even at home. This is still totally doable……..

Flav, Andrew Luck might throw for 1,000 yds. today. They need to stop scheduling these types of games. Can the money Sac. St. receives be worth the humiliation these players must endure. Just bend ’em over once before the game, write them a check and send them on their merry way. There’s football, and there’s not fair. This isn’t fair. And usually I could give a flying fuck about fairness, but in this instance, teams need a balanced strength of opponents. There has to be other ways to trickle down money to the smaller schools. Shit, hold a damn bake sale.

    • TellItGoodbye's avatar TellItGoodbye said, on September 4, 2010 at 5:05 pm

Smaller schools need money? Eliminate the football program. That’s likely the biggest money loser when you filter out all of the subsidies. A b ake sale would be better, and it probably wouldn’t present the fraud of future professional chefs manning the booth.

Nobody knew about OBP or OPS back then. All that mattered was hits, HRS, RBI & BA. Even walks weren’t such a big fuckin’ deal (as a stat).

Lilly has started 5 times against the Giants. He’s 1-3 5.12 ERA 31.2 IP 37 H 1.48 WHIP. They havn’t faced him since 2008 so not much to go on recently. Bochy put everybody in who has taken him deep- 5 guys have 6 HR in 72 AB against him. Good strategy. Sit down and watch the game. In Dennis’ case, have the nurse tie you down and watch the game..

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 4, 2010 at 4:52 pm

Those stats are near meaningless. The squad has basically turned over since 2008. The LU tonite might be a bit more patient than the stiffs in 2008 with Huff, Rent and Posey in, and Panda out, but Huff’s scuffling and Rent is staggering off the DL. Rohand is Rohand, maybe he’ll get lucky for once and hit a dinger…

      • Michael's avatar Michael said, on September 4, 2010 at 5:01 pm

Fuck off, I pointed out they haven’t faced him in a couple years. They don’t have a better LU for tonight. And I’m using totals for guys who HAVE faced him, shitwax. What’s meaningless is your evaluation with NOTHING to back it. Like last night. Yeah, good idea PH a .294 OBP for .404.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 4, 2010 at 5:14 pm

So why post meaningless stats, just to show us you have ’em? That blows. If you want to endlessly argue the Guillen v. Ross, thing off and on in your posts during the day, that blows, too. If Bochy put Ross in, he’d probably make an out anyway, but it was something to consider. Sheezus, you turn every little thing with everybody into the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, just to hear your gums flap. Give it a rest, move on. There will be plenty tonite to grouse about, no doubt…

    • Michael's avatar Michael said, on September 4, 2010 at 5:30 pm

It’s not *meaningless*, he has to go with the data he has, asshole. He put 5 guys in who have taken Lilly deep. Makes total sense since it’s the only 5 he has who ever have.

And the $$$ is good for the athletic dept, they need the freaking dough

Players routinely overestimate the value of carryovers, it would appear. They bet like they’re going to get a double payoff, when it appears the payouts will be only 20% more than usual ($1.5 million into a $7 million pool). The error is in thinking that the size of the pool is important. Beyond a certain minimum (which Del Mar reaches every day), only the proportion of carryover to overall pool is important in determing the expected value, am I right?

Just land here, in Fuckwadville. DUCKY Schofield? Never heard him called that. Is he not the same as Dick Schofield, who also played with the Pirates and the Mets?

Anyway, anyway, stats are one thing, albeit an important element in the modern game. But there’s psychology and other intangibles. And with that in mind, I submit Bochy has been pretty decent as a manager. I also suggest that a bench player like Rowand is hungry, rested, and ready to contribute. No player — no professional player — wants to perform poorly. Of course not. So as a matter of pride — no matter how much money he is making or not making — he wants to excel. Of course. For many years while employed by various firms, I’ve used the example of Dave Winfield: when he was in Steinbrenner’s doghouse, hear the end of his stay with the Yankees, he was benched. And he was reportedly miserable. People would say, what’s he care? He’s making millions. Well, millionaires can be miserable (not something I know empirically). The point is: Winfield wanted to contribute. I’m sure Rowand does too (and I’m totally sure Zito does too, and trying too hard messes him up). This is not an apologia for rich, spoiled athletes. I’m just saying a rare start for someone — even a Schierholtz — could shrewdly pay dividends.

    Or not.

    We’ll see.

If anybody’s got the inside scoop, let us know. Regardless, desire isn’t everything, if you can’t perform. His performance has sucked, is all, that’s why he doesn’t play anymore….

Snarkklefuck over simplifies. I rarely put a mistake by the pitcher even partially on the catcher. Only when it’s justified, as the pitch to Babs. The pitch to Barajas, for example, simply got too much of the plate. The one to Babs was a conceptual error.

The Phillies do scare me. (Moved my daughter there this week; gonna love visiting her. A great town, in my view.) Charlie Manuel is right out of central casting. The Inquirer (a superb daily), which I read on the el cheapo Megabus back home), said Manuel is sticking with the lineup that brought him to the dance — pretty much — last year. There was grumbling about Utley and his injury. (Remember, they booed Santa Claus at an Eagles game. We are easygoing here compared to perennially defeatist Phils phans I know. You can hardly blame them though. Or us. Given history.)

It would be dreadful if we do not take more advantage of the Padres’ collapse, though. Shit, they can lose all those games and stay in first? Dreadful. We need to have a killer instinct, no mercy.

I hope Cain pitches like he did when he beat LA that Sunday night on ESPN.

Am I wrong or are first innings way more huge for the Giants than for other teams?

Everybody slammed you last night for the idiotic dig at Posey for Zitoid’s mistake. You don’t like Posey, either to just stir the pot or to fit your love of the role of the contrarian ass. So, maybe you miss Molina. Get over it. Posey’s here for the duration, and the team’s far better off with him…

I’ve called Posey’s progression to a “T”, urged the trading of Molina.. I like Buster’s bat. There are legit questions about him behind the dish. More and more we’re seeing questions about the starting five’s regression. It may be “stirring the pot”, but that’s a good thing. It’s a valid issue and the numbers overwhelmingly demand that it be looked at.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 4, 2010 at 6:46 pm

You’re FOS. What’s the alternative at catcher now, El Presidente? There’s no damn point to your point. Posey is the catcher. He’s learning defensively and how to work with the pitchers, he’s hitting like Molina didn’t. Sabes was smart enough to weigh those tradeoffs for Buster doing OJT, and went with Posey, the right call. These same phuckin pitchers gave up plenty of homers and hits to pitchers over the last few years when Bengielena was catching. How many of those were Bengie’s phuckin fault? Some. Ya think nobody else here doesn’t think Posey needs to improve his D? So fuckin what, that’s no impressive, solo discovery. He’s here, he’s getting better. At least I rag on guys that don’t perform. Give it a rest…

      • Michael's avatar Michael said, on September 4, 2010 at 6:52 pm

Zito has given up 15 HR in 86 innings without Molina, 4 with in 84 innings. Listen up and this time take notes, fuck: I’m not wanting Bengie back, I’m making a valid criticism of the starting pitchers performance since Buster took over. That can be supported with the numbers, not some phony ambulance chaser’s cynical rhetoric. You may not like it but tough shit.

Not even one thank you comes my way for ragging on Rowand all day long in hopes of putting the reverse jinx on him and he leads off with a double. You’re a bunch of ungrateful fucks.

Fruckie does that bunting on his own. Bad idea this early. Try to drive him in.

  58. unca chuck's avatar unca chuck said, on September 4, 2010 at 7:19 pm

    Oooooohhhhhhhhhhh boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Now THAT was Posey’s fault. Why the fuck are you bunting in th 1st?

A pretty sad indictment of the offense I suppose.

In high school I was — believe it — in the seminary [explains a lot] and this one guy, not surprisingly a little on the effeminate side, HAD A SISTER on the Golddiggers! Any of us who were straight went crazy over her! Dirty thoughts! (Of course, we had to go to Confession immediately.) (I better go on Facebook to see if she weighs 300 pounds now.)

  64. DJLoo's avatar DJLoo said, on September 4, 2010 at 7:23 pm

At least they didn’t waste a leadoff strikeout.

  65. Del Mar Dennis's avatar delmardennis said, on September 4, 2010 at 7:25 pm

And that bunt by Franchez just further goes to prove that he’s one big pussy.

  67. big flavor's avatar big flavor said, on September 4, 2010 at 7:28 pm

    wow. I guess they can’t blame that on Renteria’s range…….. Cain’s fine.

  68. alleykat's avatar alleykat said, on September 4, 2010 at 7:28 pm

Another wasted inning.Like the Eagles song Wasted times! Posey was totally off balance on his swing ,no way to drive a ball like that.

  69. max808's avatar max808 said, on September 4, 2010 at 7:29 pm

It looked like a deliberate sac bunt to me. That comes from the skip, no?

    • Michael's avatar Michael said, on September 4, 2010 at 7:32 pm

It would go against everything Bochy believes in. K and K have said before that Fruckie does that on his own. But if it swizzles your swazzle, blame Bochy.

I would have liked a hit and run with Renteria there. If successful, you can at least make them think a little with Cain. If not … so what?
