A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Sometimes you just have to take a walk…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 5, 2010

That’s what I did after Gibbons hit that bomb. Not a long walk, just down the driveway and up the street and back. Apparently that walk worked wonders. Cain settled down and we go on to hit 4 bombs to win the game. There are almost no words to describe last night’s win. Either you saw it or you didn’t and I have never seen a game like that–that one was an original. Uribe has to be POTG but if was ever to be a shared last night was the night—Posey, Renteria, Burrell, Ross and Uribe. And you have to give Cain huge props for settling down after giving up that bomb to the ridiculous Gibbons…….

Torre stubbornly using Broxton again. Baha. Classic look of defeat on Broxton’s face after Uribe’s hit. Broken and beaten….

Who loses 9 games in a row at this time of year and can honestly maintain the confidence to actually believe they can win their division?

There is no team above us. The only thing that is stopping us from steamrolling this division is proper execution. That, and God hating us when Zito pitches……..

After that 3 run jack I was thinking ballgame too.

With San Diego cratering and extending their meldown to 9 straight The Giants had sieze the moment, turn the tide, change their momentum. They had to have that game and who better to carry them that Uribe. Dude is The Man.

    What a game.

The bad news is that I didn’t get to see the game like most of you did . . . The good news is that I got to read the blog posts this morning and that’s fun too. Sounds like it was quite a roller coaster ride.

The G-Men need to win the series today . . . and that will be tough to do, with Sanchez having never won against the Bums. Specifically, they probably like their chances against Sanchez, who is 0-5 with a 6.25 ERA in nine career starts against them, and has not lasted past the fifth inning in the last eight. He gave up five runs over five innings June 30 in an 8-2 home loss to Los Angeles. Ignore Kuroda’s 10-11 season record, i.e., he almost pitched a no-hitter against the Phils in his last start, winning 3-0. So, this is a good time for Sanchez and company to suit up and show up.

    Go Giants!

Tremendously gutsy effort from Cain after the debacle in the 4th.

Safe to assume Broxton/Barajas didn’t see Uribe’s blast against Heath Bell in the 9th earlier this yr (a game which the G’s ultimately lost in the 10th on a Eckstein hr). Same pitch, same location, same destination.

At the end of the broadcast,Amy G talked to Brian Wilson and complimented on his beard. He called it “The Beard of Zeus”. That’s the sort of thing it took last night–divine intervention.Matt Cain pitched six top-notch innings and one piece of shit inning, and the 4-0 pasting looked permanent until Buster Posey boomed a big one off Ted Lilly leading off the 7th.Back to back bombs by Edgar and Pat in the 8th made it a ballgame again, and even after Hong Chow Mein Kuo came into to dispose of Huff and Posey,I knew the Dodgers would have to go to Broxton which made be quite happy. In the past i wouldn’t of said that, as he had been lights out,but he’s not the same pitcher since the Yanks lit him up in NY before the A/S break. And the Giants obviously know this as well. Cause after Cody Ross infield hit and Juan Uribe’s biggest HR of the year to take the lead,it was the 3rd straight time in which they torched Broxton. How sweet is that?

Zowwwie. Came back from the beach last nightly slightly tight and turned on the puter. Middle of the 7th. Posey had just got the Giants on the board. Was tired and a bit overstimulated, recalling the Friday night loss to Lady B. and figured fuggit. Endangered my uberPolly status with that retreat to the sack.

But whodda thunk it? RentMan and Pat the Bat doing some bitchslapping in the 8th and then Ross setting up UrrrrrrriBeeeeee for the big blast. Then, not to let the drama ease up, Sarah Bernhardt act comes on and the LaBumbos get two on with only one out. But BeachBoy yanks the string out from underneath their rally and it finalizes in a big “W”.

Guillen gotta sit tonight, and Dennis, you goddam right Huff should be dropped down the LU. He hasn’t done scheisskendorfers lately and clogs up the most productive part of the order. Cody Ross deserves a start and maybe both Renteria and Uribe should start, particularly if Pablo is outta sorts.

Huge game for Sanchez. Cain broke the LaBumbos schneid on him earlier in the season. Bout perfect time for Drrrrty to follow suit. Strategy against Kuroda: Work the count. Work the count. Work the count. Except for Chow Mein Charlie, the BumPen is perfectly delicious. If they can get to that BP by the sixth the Giants should win again even if trailing. Sanchez gets it tonight and the batters work Kuroda, SF wins big.

Scully was pathetic. Bitched on Renteria all night like Vinnie Snarkklefuck, crowed after he struck out about how declining the rehab made him unfit to play ( then fell nearly silent as Rent’s HR left the yard), declared that Cain has been a HUGE disappointment, not ONE critical word about a Dodger or their play from the formerly bipartisan great, really dozens more examples. I was shocked, I hadn’t heard Vin do a full game in awhile. He’s not even witty anymore. Strangely, although the broadcast is biased toward the Bumbinis, he’s not particularly enthused about them either. He’s mailing it in… sad.

I don’t know if he’s mailing it in or just old. He makes a lot of mistakes.

The biggest problem is that one guy doing TV gets real monotonous real quick. You get the same stories 3 nights in a row because there’s no one to build a conversation off of, and apparently interns directing the cameras because nothing to talk about there either. They want to show Ethier’s bad routes all night and call them great (although, to be fair, ESPN called it Web Gem No. 2. Ridiculous)

I loved Scully, but I skip the telecasts usually.

In Baltimore, fans actually start their own chants, you’re not incessantly bombarded with music and instructions to clap, and there’s good pulled pork at Boog Powell’s BBQ. Between the right-field concourse and the warehouse behind, the O’s have marked where homers have landed–Griffey hit the warehouse (450 feet) in an All-Star contest. I remember being at a Yanks-O’s game in the mid-90s where Strawberry launched three moon-shots over there. Anyway, our man Huff has a couple there, and I’ll upload a photo as my avatar (how do you do that here? go to Blogspot?). The little-faith, knee-jerk reaction of one who has been jilted once too often. Tonight, when I went to the ESPN MLB scoreboard, where my laptop was, still on yesterday’s scores in the 5th inning, instead of refreshing the page, I went to Sunday’s scores instead.
